We ordered a custom cushion for a new bay window bench we got built. The fabric selections were great. And the quality of the cushion and fabric ended up working well. Allow for 8-9 weeks from start to finish. They do free delivery in our area so I would check if that is an option, which made it much easier, as we got a large (and heavy) cushion. My only word of caution is that they are not cheap but getting custom anything made never is. read more

first time here - called a few places for info on two upholstery jobs: a sofa slipcover, and an armless chair with ottoman. I'd had the latter reupholstered about 20 years ago and darn, it needed to be re-done (should have done this a couple of years ago)! Other place I went to had expensive fabrics and the slipcover labor was ~$850. Yikes! David at Interior Decorators Upholstery Service recommended getting fabric from Norman S Bernie fabrics (in San Mateo - thumbs up for them!). Found fabrics there I liked (for both sofa and chair). Decided to go with an online place for the slipcover (we'll see how that turns out) and IDUS for the chair/ottoman. Just got back the chair/ottoman and it looks great! The ottoman had broken years ago - they fixed it and it feels very sturdy. David was very accommodating: I dropped off the chair (so they could give me the amount of fabric to order), I ordered the fabric. David was actually at Norman Bernie the day the fabric arrived, so he picked it up for me. The only glitch was a delay of two weeks between the time when the fabric arrived and the time when they could start the work (Not their fault that my fabric arrived while they were working on another, larger project). Once started, the chair was done in a week! Truth be told, I could have likely bought a new chair/ottoman for about the price of the reupholstery. Though, this was a piece I liked that belonged to my parents. And it's now gotten everything replaced (except the frame), so I'm sure it will be good for another 15-20 years! read more

Our furniture (couch, chaise lounge, and chair) was used and abused and needed life breathed back into it. It was leaving my wife with a sore back and was not as comfortable as it once was. They breathed new life into it and turned lumpy and sad no comfortable and gorgeous. We heard about them because they are down the street from where my father works and my parents used them to reupholster my great grandmother's queen ann chairs and they did a fantastic job on those. We were surprised by our furniture when we received them and absolutely love the results. We've also have the chaise and chair for about a month and a half now with no issues and the couch has been home for about 3 weeks. I think the part that took the longest was the ordering of the fabric because it was on backorder which was beyond their control. I had a chair and ottoman recovered and they did a very good job. But then they did a job that involved re-making some drawers for an antique piece. They did a great job, but after a few months, the wood expanded and the drawers got completely stuck. I called David, who said he would take care of it. That was months ago. In fact, he said he would come by last Saturday to fix them and never showed up and never called. Even though they did a good job, there was no follow-through. I had to hire someone else to fix a problem that David should have taken care of. I will not use them again. read more

What a fantastic job the David Pena team did on reupholstering our couch and 2 swivel living room stuffed chairs and the matching ottoman. We checked with 2 places in the city which were almost double before we found David. The work is perfect and just beautiful. The price was very, very reasonable. They pick up and deliver for a small fee! We were absolutely flexible on return time of the pieces which in retrospect helped them as they are a small company and I wanted them to take their time. Very fast, great work, a fabulous price! I had four office ottomans that were in good shape other than the cushions, which were cracked and peeling. I wanted to find a way to re-cover them but for cheaper than it would be to buy new chairs. I shopped around and had a bid for $1600, which was too high. Then I contacted Dave Pena and his staff, and they were able to do the work for $690 instead! When I dropped off the cushions they said it would be 7-10 business days from when the fabric arrived. TWO DAYS LATER Dave called to tell me they were done! It was a great surprise and the workmanship was done very well. My only note is that they don't accept credit card, so be prepared to pay in check or cash instead. I will go back to them for any other jobs I have! read more

Tiny job... Perfect result. Two couch cushions re-filled and covered will make my Bassett couch last another 15 or more years and it looks like a new couch. The two out of three back cushions were squished and tattered, to say the least. Found compatible fabric at NSBernie in San Mateo remnants for $10! A win already... As paying, mentioned all I need now is an upholsterer, and Dave said he could do that for me. I had several pieces of furniture reupholstered by David Pena and his son. They did a fantastic job! I can't understand why anyone would give them a bad review. Before asking them to do the job, I shopped around and found that they gave very reasonable quotes. Re-upholstery is not cheap, and if you shop around for bids, you will find that out. David was wonderful to deal with - very helpful and honest and reliable. They did a beautiful job on some difficult pieces (wing chairs with patterned fabric and a camelback sofa), and 'went the extra mile' to fix the old furniture that needed more support. We were looking to re-upholster our decade's old sectional couch and found out about Interior Decorators through Google search. The good reviews caught our attention. We talked to Brian about getting a quote, provided them some pictures and within a reasonable amount of time, Dave called back with an estimate. This is a father & son tandem. We went to visit their shop to look for fabrics, with the intent of checking out other competitors. Brian was very knowledgeable and helpful. After spending about 15minutes in their shop going through tons of sample books and seeing actual work, we've decided to have them do our beloved couch. Dave gave us a very good deal. They did our ottoman for free! Pick up and delivery was also included. We were promised 2 weeks, and they did deliver in 2 weeks. We asked them to copy as much as possible the old couch. Wow! The craftsmanship is awesome. We are truly happy with everything: their customer service, their professionalism and their work. We highly recommend them for any upholstery job. I noticed that neither review complained about the quality of the work, and I think that's important to note. The complaints were about communication failures, which I did not experience myself at all. As for my experience, I recently had an unusual piece reupholstered for a commercial product. I'd previously been working with Dan's Upholstery in San Carlos, but they wanted to double the price I had previously paid for the same job. Brian, at Interior Decorators Upholstery, was extremely professional and matched the original price. He made me feel like they truly appreciated my business. Most importantly, the job was done perfectly and in just 2 days! It was a little difficult finding the business because it's located in the back of another, so the address (878) on Douglas Avenue, isn't visible from the street, but I highly recommend making the effort. Once I realized where it was, it was easy to get there again. I will undoubtedly be bringing any reupholstering project to them in the future. read more
