This was an interesting spot! A little dated-feeling on the inside, but a good place to try some red (and only red) wine! The charcuterie board was excellent, though! The bread and oil plate left much to the imagination -- the bread was cold, and could have used at least some warming. I personally didn't enjoy the tasting as many of the wines tasted almost bitter/very sharply tannin-centered with even the sommelier admitting that they were quite young. I'm not an expert, nor a purveyor of expensive wine but for the price of the tastings, I expected a little better quality. I didn't end up purchasing a bottle because of it. Recently I saw few lower reviews here. Reasons - high prices, service is not a 5 star, parking is not paved ...... Well, here it is falks. Set your expectations right. If you want best wine in Texas - this would be Inwwod. If you want best wine education in Texas - this would be inwood. If you want best wine for $10/bottle - go sick apsychiatric evaluation. Inwood wines will never be that low, Dan gets about 1/3 grape production as compared to, lets say, Howell mountain in Napa Valley, and he does that to keep the wine quality as good as Howell Mountain. So if you want great wines - pay. On a side I do not think Inwood is expensive at all, you get an amazying wine for $60-$110 per bottle. This is cheap as far as I am concern, go try getting something as good for that money in Napa Valley :) I wish I could. Pro-tip - book the last Saturday tasting with Dan. He will talk much more and, what's important, he will get you so much more wine :) Thank you Cesil for this pro-tip :) Oh, yes, the parking ..... if this is one of the criterias for a winery experience for you - go get the second psychiatric evaluation. Stopped here for wine tasting as part of the Wine Lover's Trail wine tasting. Very disappointed that they do NOT enforce social distancing. I felt very compromised during our visit. First, they gave us a recycled wine tasting form. Someone had previously marked on the form. My husband and I took our wine tasting glasses and sat down at a table before removing our mask to sample the wine. To our chagrin, the table next to us, party of 6 stood up walked around without their mask on. A couple walked up to get their next wine tasting as another walked to use the restroom without their mask. At no time did the staff ask anyone to put on their mask when they were up and about from their table. Furthermore, we witnesses 3 separate couples stand elbow to elbow at the counter to start their wine tasting. One couple took their wine to a table but they got up to get each additional wine tasting and used the bathroom without their mask on. All walking by our table. We felt compromised. We said something to the staff as well as the winemaker but nothing changed. We did not feel comfortable so took our leave. We may cancel our wine membership all together. If the Heath Department was here, we are certain that they would have at lease received a warning. Probably won't come back! read more

In my opinion, this is the only winery in the Fredericksburg area worthy of being introduced to Napa Valley. Inwood is not for the inexperienced however. Sure, you will find many "tourist attraction" wineries throughout Fredericksburg. Locations offering shopping, food, and cozy appointments with live music. You might even find a palatable wine here or there, one that would fit easily into a table wine category. However, if you're looking for a true 100% Texas wine that rivals some offered in the Napa Valley, then Inwood Estates is a must visit. Do not expect an overly commercialized environment. They're not posturing as a restaurant, music venue, or gift shop. This location is all about true quality Vino. Inwood is staffed with individuals, well-educated and knowledgeable about one particular thing, the art of making a fantastic wine. Unlike many other wineries within Fredericksburg, there's no supplementation of California grapes going on here. This is a 100% Texas wine, that is superb. Remember, if it doesn't say Texas on the front label, then its NOT a Texas wine. Some may find Inwood a little pricey, however their dedication, experience, and quality is truly reflected within one glass. Once in a while you must pay for excellence. :) If you are the type that appreciates the craftsmanship and science behind winemaking, then this is your winery. Secure a ticket to one of the "Private tasting with the Winemaker" or "Barrel Sampling" events, you won't be disappointed. The wine here is exceptional. They used to sell in some of the finest restaurants, but now just sell to their members and visitors. We did a tasting in January and were really impressed with the knowledge they had when explaining the wine to us. Didn't mean to join another wine club, but I'm glad I signed up. One word: rude. After the vintner found out I was a Yelper, he repeatedly asked me not to post anything as "Yelp has ruined my business." Well, first of all sir, this is a free country and I'll Yelp if I want to. Second, if you took the time to actually read the "negative" reviews it is clear that YOU and the Bistro staff are ruining your business by providing less than adequate service and being downright offensive to your customers. By far the biggest wine snob I've ever met. Comes off as so pretentious and tries to make you believe he is the most knowledgeable person on the planet. If you want to be scoffed at, be certain to plan wasting over an hour of your day listening to the man tell you every...single...detail about the 6 wines you get during a tasting. Yes, explanations are nice. However, it is egregious to assume that all of the patrons are complete neophytes when it comes to wine. It's just insulting. One suggestion if I may...Get off your high horse and learn some Southern hospitality if you want your business to succeed in Fredericksburg. This was our first stop on a day trip to Fredericksburg. We stopped at a couple other wineries on our way down the road but didn't realize we needed reservations. We did not need one at Inwood. It's your typical indoor wine tasting room with limited outside sitting. Bar for tasting and tables for sitting and enjoying a glass. The offerings were very tasty and the server was well educated and shared a lot of information with us. We did have to wait for a group to leave the bar before we could move in and start our tasting but I think that's how they can give you the attention and educate you on the wines. Enjoyed the visit but it wasn't anything spectacular. read more

Disappointing visit. We arrived mid week, and were the only visitors in the tasting room. We received a chilly reception, but walked up to the bar. We were at the point we needed a snack, so ordered the cheese platter. She placed the package on the counter chilled case and walked back to the tasting bar. I picked it up and brought it over to the tasting bar. She told us we could not eat and taste at the 6 foot bar because she had to roll the wine. Weird, there was plenty of room at the bar and not one other person in the room. She also did not ever make eye contact since our arrival. So, we sat at the table and ate our cheese and crackers. We walked up to the bar for each taste and went back and forth between between the bar and our table. It was such a poor experience tasting, and the wines were underwhelming at best. Unquestionably the best winery in Texas. Their one white is adequate. If you are looking for whites, or for sweet wines, go to Fat Ass Ranch & Winery nearby, you'll be right at home. If you're looking for the best dry reds in the lone star state, you'll find them at Inwood. I am surprised at the comments I've read on customer service. Excellent wines at a crazy price point for Texas. Most of them are between $60-100/bottle. Which mean we'll be tasting but not leaving with any bottles. Aaron was our server and was one of the best we've ever had. He has a degree in some kind of botany field and he taught us so much about vines and grapes and grafting... it was really interesting. For example, we never knew to ask about tons harvested per acre (the more tons, the lesser the quality of the wine). So interesting. He really made the trip for us. read more

We had a guided tasting over the Thanksgiving weekend with the knowledgeable vineyard's owner. It was a great business story, history lesson of wine producer's and Texas' place in the evolving industry. The tasting room is clean and intimate. The wines were good quality. The winemaker engaging. They offer a premium tasting at about 3x their regular tasting fee which I'll try next time. I liked the compact tasting story and comparison tasting of small production growth vs. larger production. He offers a very compelling argument for the explosive growth of vineyards in Texas. Nice experience . We didn't hang out afterwards in their backyards but if we didn't need to get to Austin for the evening, we could have enjoyed the afternoon there. read more

By far the BEST tasting I have done in my 3 trips to Fredericksburg. They are doing a great job of social distancing and respecting health/safety precautions. We met one of the wine makers, who led us through our tasting. He was very informative and gave us a lot of great information on each wine. We loved EVERY wine that we tasted--5 reds. We had a cheese board, an extra glass each, and decided to become members of the wine club since they also have a Dallas tasting room. I highly recommend this to anyone who's visiting Fredericksburg and is interested in high quality red wines! This is not the place for anyone looking for white or sweet wines. Inwood Estates has a good story. First grower to put grapes in the ground in Texas, long history of buying and exporting wines (the owner), obviously a deep knowledge of the business, science and art of growing wine. The owner was kind enough to sample us on some very exclusive wines, share the science of growing, his learned opinion on Texas wines, seasons, El Nino, French wines, Italian wines, and just about everything else related to wine. They clearly know their stuff and their wine was good. If I'm being constructive about what would have made the experience better, maybe some sprucing up of the back area where you sample. The chairs are pretty uncomfortable and the room is pretty spare. While I agree the wine is the main attraction, from an experiential standpoint, I'd be more likely to bring guests to one of the more built out welcoming wineries. read more

We had a horrible experience at Inwood Estates winery in Fredericksburg, Texas yesterday and we will definitely not be back. We went here yesterday while hosting our out of town guests looking for another winery that my husband and I would want to join as members. We were given one paper wine menu for the four of us and when we asked for a second paper wine menu for our two friends, a gentleman with shoulder length gray hair literally snatched it out of my hands and gave me a paper-cut and then gave my wine menu to our guests. Then my husband and I were going to ask if he and I did a tasting could the two of us share it. Before I got to could we share it, he interrupted me and said with an snarky attitude, "you can't make any changes to the tasting, it has whites that you can't change out for reds." All the workers behind the counter seemed more interested in counting the till than helping us. We ended up ordering a bottle to share between the four of us and nobody ever came over to offer us water, or to check on us, or to tell us stories about the wines and we were literally THE only people there so they definitely were not busy. read more

We sat out back since the day was so beautiful. Barrels and storage containers everywhere, had things all over the yard that just kind of junked it up. I visited this winery as apart of a bus tour on Saturday. It's now Monday, and the way they made me feel is still bothering me. They put a cheese plate with napkins and toothpicks on top of their display case, so I and a couple others thought it was a sample tray. The woman behind the counter immediately yelled at us and shamed us loudly saying "Excuse me! Is that yours! This is unbelievable!" As if we were awful people. She would not stop even after we apologized for thinking that they were samples. I wouldn't want my food just sitting out in the open like that anyway. We immediately left to go back on the bus because after that, we were not going to spend our money there. The only thing that makes me feel not as embarrassed and shamed about that experience is the fact that I'm not the only person they've been rude to. This yelp page is littered with one star reviews about poor customer service. You can make a good glass of wine, but you're killing your business if you're consistently rude to your customers. You're better off getting a bottle of Yellow Tail from the grocery store than coming here and having your self-esteem and your weekend ruined. read more

This is the 3rd location for Inwood Estates Vineyards. They have 30 yrs of wine making experience in Texas, and utilize only Texas grapes for their wines, from 3 vineyards. They are looking to expand and plan to start fermenting and crushing in Fredericksburg; their first harvest here will be next year. They are known for their Tempranillo and Cab Red wines, and Palomino and Chardonnay white wines. At this location they have a stand alone tasting room, which typically has the winemaker onsite to provide detailed wine making information, and a separate café where you can enjoy a bite to eat. In my experience here, the customer service was superb. The service was almost "too friendly", they had a staff member just assigned to the doors to ensure people were directed to the right place, tasting room vs. café, and constantly inquiring about your experience. The staff were highly informative and passionate about their wines, and wine making process; which I found to be a highlight. The prices here are definitely too steep, a tasting is $12 for 6. The bottles are definitely overpriced when compared to other Texas wineries, especially since I didn't find the quality of their wine to be a standout. Overall I thought the wine was average to OK, and the red's fell short of their full potential. read more

I have lived in Fredericksburg for over 20 years, and was shocked at the terrible customer service I received at Inwood Estates. My friends and I started the wine tour at Baron's Creek Winery where we each had one glass of wine. We wanted to eat some lunch and were recommended by Baron's Creek to go to Inwood Estates. Upon arrival to the winery, we saw a large 6 top table open, but were rudely stopped by the server who would not seat us. We asked if we could get some lunch, but were denied and told there was a private party starting at 3pm. It was 2pm when we arrived. The server reused to seat us for lunch and said "we can offer you a bottle of wine to go". But all we wanted was some lunch. The server said "I'm sorry but there wont be enough time to serve you food". We told the waitress our plan was to be at Becker Vineyards, by 3 pm, but she still said "no im sorry we cannot serve you food". We noticed that they had chicken tortilla soup for sale. So we asked if we could each take a bowl of soup to go. The waitress then said " No, we do not have any take away bowls". She did offer us overpriced to go cheese boxes, which were $12 for a few cubes of cheese. The waitress proceeded to tell us that no other winery but Inwood served food. She was extremely rude, unhelpful, and made our party feel unwanted. This was the only winery that treated us this way. As we left the winery, we say that 4.0 winery had a BBQ food truck. In fact, every winery we visited after Inwood had food. So not only was she extremely rude, she also lied to us. It was a very negative way to start the wine tour. We will not be back! read more

I'm not particular a fan of their wine, they are a challenge to my taste bud. However, that isn't the reason I give it 3 stars. I believe that different wine for different folks, just because I don't like it, it doesn't mean it isn't good. Example, I don't like corn. Anyhoo, the service is pretty good. What really turned me off is the $1 charge for a bottle of water. This is a high end taste room, you shouldn't nickel and dime for water. If a bottle of water hurts your bottom line, I'm ok with regular tap water, I just need to swish out the wine between tastes. Can I afford a $1 for a bottle of water, yes I can, would I do it after I spend $10 tasting, nope. read more

We came back in to find a woman who was seemingly incapable of any sort of smile or warmth - poured our wines and then walked away, and often disappeared completely. Tastings were $15 for five wines, and they were reasonably adequate. Despite the fact that they were not anything special, they were selling some for as high as $100 a bottle - seemingly thinking they were a top Napa winery. We worked our way through the list and then I asked about the port - which the tasting sheet listed as an additional $3 fee to try. I was told that no, I could not try it - with no explanation as to why. Unclear what was going on here, but the service was spectacularly bad and ruined the visit. After two days of touring Fredericksburg and area wineries, this visit stood out as the worst. read more
