The dinner menu offers their more high end sushi rolls, but whether you dine for lunch or dinner you are able to custom order your own rolls and hand rolls, just write down what you want and they will make it. I love that they make a nice tempura sweet potato which I put in a roll with avocado and cucumber. I really thought I had written a review for IOU, I have gone here a lot. So here's the scoop the good, the funky, and the great. The good is there is plenty of parking, the bathrooms are clean, and they have booths. I was debating on whether to give them a 4 or 5. I am not a bit picky person, as long as the food is good, restaurant clean, and service good I give 5's. Let me start out by saying the service was great! Our server, thinking maybe the owner, was very nice. My wine pour was awesome for $4! In total we had 3 specialty rolls & 2 nigiri. One of the nigiri was a specialty one, salmon with imitation crab, avocado, and green onions on top....awesome! The other was the scallop, my absolute fav nigiri! So silky. Okay, now my two complaints. The rolls were just too huge! I know a weird complaint. I just tend to prefer rolls I don't have to take two bites of. Secondly, the majority of specialty rolls are deep fried, which I am not a fan of. I will go back but maybe just try the regular maki rolls and of course get the nigiri. Well reading reviews and was severely mislead :( not sure I trust Yelp anymore. Sitting here for over 25 minutes after ordering still zero food and no sign of them moving on the sushi in any kind of hurry. I keep seeing them watching the tv behind them more than anything. Big fat ready to leave...and the server has not bothered to fill our drinks or say two words to us in over 30 minutes. I would NEVER return. I consider myself pretty advanced when it comes to sushi and have tried a lot of all you can eat sushi restaurants and this one is by far on the bottom of my list. If you are looking to eat a load of rice with your salmon this is the place to be at. You are basically paying for a gigantic ball of rice with every roll/order. Some if their rolls were pretty good don't get me wrong but I wouldn't spend my $30 on a ball of rice. And you have to eat the rice or it would count as leftovers after the 5th piece. Aside from the disappointment of food, the wait time took longer than any sushi restaurant I have been to. We arrived at 7:30, placed our order at 7:40 and did not receive our food until 8:20 and 8:30 is their last call for orders. The restaurant was not crazy busy on a Thursday night with 5 tables occupied and three chefs rolling. Because we were so close to last call we decided to put in another order for a second round (mind you the first round hasn't even been started after 30 - 35 min of submission). The waitress was giving us a hard time on placing a second order. When we first sat at the table we asked what the restrictions/limitations were on ordering and the only thing stated to us was that if we had any leftovers of 6 pieces or more we would have to pay for it. So when we submitted our second order to the waitress she hesitated and asked "are you guys sure? I don't want you guys to have to pay extra". But she was adamant and pushy for us not to do a second order. We stated that we already know the rules and we will pay if it comes down to it. Still she did not take our second order and I stated that we will wait until 8:10 to submit if our first order did not arrive yet. Surprise surprise it didn't arrive yet. I had her try to take our second order again and again she was hesitant on taking it. It was as if she refused to accept our order and we bickered back and forth. Finally, she accepted our order and put it in. We finished all our food with no leftovers and one of the other waitresses came to us and said "they doubted you guys". Although this place is practicing social distancing inside because of COVID, they aren't disinfecting, at all. Once people leave, the table is cleaned and wiped with a towel, no disinfecting wipes or sprays are being used like at other places. We were feeling sushi and wanted to get all you can eat at our usual spot, but it was packed and there was a long wait, so we checked for another AYCE sushi spot and found IOU. We were able to sit right away and the staff were all really friendly. We told them it was our first visit. An older man, whom I suspected was the owner, came out of the kitchen and explained the menu to us. All staff wore masks, but he got super close to me, which I wasn't comfortable with, but I didn't have the heart to ask him to give me some distance because he was just so nice. He sent us egg rolls and crab puffs on the house, which was a really nice gesture. (Especially because my hubby wanted some egg rolls, which aren't included with AYCE.) It is nice that almost all of their specialty rolls are included in the AYCE. I ordered spicy tuna, Kaun, and Nan Madol rolls. They were okay-tasting, but the fish didn't seem as fresh as I might have liked. Many of their rolls have a sweet sauce on them, which I thought might be like eel sauce, but was more of a sugary-honey flavor that I didn't like. We got a lot of food for the price, but it seems the quality is not quite there, which is important when you're eating raw fish. My hubby also got a Vegas roll that was cold. That is tempura-fried so it should have been hot, which leads me to believe it was premade, or some elements of it were. I'm sad to give them two stars, as the staff and owner were really so nice, but the sushi is not great, so we wouldn't come back. Every food item we tried was absolutely amazing. I tried the "all you can eat" and tried five different specialty rolls. You can tell the chef takes pride in their preparation of the food. Unfortunately, the lack of service was disappointing. Walking in, the store smelled heavily like Marijuana, but I could not pinpoint if maybe it was another customer who brought the smell in or if it was tracked in from an employee. The water glass I received was dirty and still had some lipstick stain on it from a previous customer, I would assume. Although the food was fresh, it would be nice to receive all entrees simultaneously for the group. Majority of us had already finished more than half our meal before a couple others had received their plates. Star Wars (original, not the new rendition) was playing when I walked in on my first visit. I knew then that I was in good company. This sushi spot has the feel of an old, reformed diner with super friendly and attentive service. The owners and employees feel like down home people; the kind of folks who volunteer on the weekends for neighborhood cleanup and will pull weeds for senior residents. I don't actually know if they do any of this...but everyone I've come across has that kind of caring energy. With a sushi bar in the center of the dining space, booth seating line the walls with a few four tops filling out the rest of the space. Posted sign indicates that it can seat 73 people, and there are several television sets set to different channels (news and films, mostly), all competing for sound. It is somewhat distracting. Oh -- important note about the restaurant's name. It's pronounced E-Yo -- not I-owe-you, apparently. The restaurant's name apparently means "delicious" or "tasty, sweet" in the Pohnpeian language spoken by the indigenous people living on an island a ways off the coast of Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific. I had to look it up on a map. The menu is not strictly traditional but you can find a good range of nigiri: albacore, snapper, octopus, squid, scallops, salmon, yellowtail, mackerel and more. Even ikura, one of my personal favorites, is on the menu. The mackerel is strong and smooth. The scallops carry the essence of the ocean. The salmon is silky and soft. The ikura is nicely stacked. Glorious. I am pleased, thus far, with the quality and variety, especially for AYCE. Also on the menu: vegetable tempura, shrimp tempura, katsu, teriyaki rice bowls and sashimi. Edamame and miso soup are also offered, but do not come automatically. But the grand opus appears to be in the AYCE lunch and dinner options, and also the rolls: Hand rolls, short rolls and long rolls. The lunch AYCE menus is $19 for adults and $12 for kids, and it excludes the signature rolls; dinner is at $26 for adults and $19 for kids. That's a bit steep compared to other AYCE offerings. For now, the restaurant does not have a liquor license, but they are working on it. You can also order a la cart. The rolls sound decadent and generally fall on the pricey end, from about $10-$14 each -- and some come with six cuts while other come with eight. There's the Honor Roll (as a nerdy academic, I find this cute) with shrimp tempura and cream cheese topped with salmon, lemon, avocado and a sweet, syrupy sauce. The Kaselehli has unagi, cucumber, crab and avocado on the inside and tuna with scallop on top. The namesake, the IOU, has salmon, cream cheese and jalapeno on the outside and, again, with that sweet sauce. There is also an amazing assortment of tamaki sushi, or hand rolls. Those generally go at $7 each. And it is a budding chain. The original location is in Idaho and, there, the owners have two sites: in Boise and Nampa (which sounds like "Napa," but isn't). Word is that owner Rocketchun Holden and his family took great interest in opening shop in Tucson, having enjoyed the city. read more

I initially had some doubts prior to coming since a) good sushi is hard to find in the desert and b) I have had some bad experiences with all-you-can-eat sushi in the past. This place was a pleasant surprise! IOU is located in a strip mall setting and has a simple and casual dining area. The service was very friendly and attentive, granted we were the only ones there for most of our dinner. We went for the all-you-can-eat for $25.99 and left very satisfied. The fish tasted fresh and the quail shots were fun and tasty. We stuck to the nigiri sushi so I can't really comment on the rolls. They also have a lunch AYCE menu that excludes specialty rolls. It still includes hand rolls and simple rolls. The lunch price is about $20 including tax. Since I don't usually order rolls, lunch is definitely the way to go! If you come during lunch and want the dinner price with the specialty rolls, they will accomodate. Overall, I was very impressed with the service and quality of sushi, especially for the price. We get sushi fairly often and felt the prices were a little bit high- we did not get complimentary salad or miso soup with the meal. We ordered 1 salmon nigiri ($5.50), 1 rainbow roll ($9.99), 1 dragon roll ($13.99), 2 miso soups ($4.98), and 1 jalapeño bomb app ($2.99) for a total of $41. The jalapeño bomb was fun, tasty, and a great deal for $3 -tempura fried jalapeño with cream cheese and imitation crab. We were also impressed with the giant chunks of tofu in the miso- not something you usually get in a free bowl at other restaurants. The atmosphere felt a bit like a Rupertos Mexican restaurant/cafeteria. Could use some softening up. Our service was friendly, but awkward. Apps came out after our sushi. Didn't get our drinks refilled until we were already done with the meal. We may give this another shot- I think they're just still new and figuring things out.
