    BURRITO AVOCADO CHORIZO
    Adriana F.

On our way to Saguaro National Park East, we made a quick stop at Amelia's Mexican Kitchen for takeout, and it turned out to be one of those "well that escalated quickly" food moments. Service was excellent. Lorenzo was friendly, thoughtful, and actually listened, which shouldn't be rare, but somehow still is. He had our burritos cut in half for easy sharing while driving, and made sure we were set before sending us on our way. We ordered the machaca and the avocado chorizo burritos. Let me say this plainly. These things are massive. You could easily split one and be perfectly happy. We did not know this going in, but now you do. The coffee, though... skip it. They gave me a generous cup, but it tasted like it had had a long night and given up halfway through. No strength, no flavor, just vibes. Now the burritos? Completely different story. Hands down some of the best I've ever had, and I've been around the burrito block more than a few times. The machaca was the standout. Loaded with tender beef, eggs, potatoes, and plenty of cheese, all wrapped in a tortilla so thin and light it felt like it had no business holding everything together, yet somehow did, like a quiet overachiever. The place was buzzing for a Tuesday at 10:45 in the morning, which tells you everything you need to know. Locals show up when something's worth it. So yes, grab the burritos. Maybe grab your coffee somewhere else. And enjoy the kind of meal that makes you briefly consider turning the car around for another round.

We were invited here to eat for lunch. Or server was very accommodating considering the size of the party. It was one guy for over 10 people so we owe him grace. I will say some drinks were missing, misplaced, or delivered after the food was delivered which defeats the purpose of ordering drinks first. He may have forgot or the bar got severely behind. As for the food, the chile relleno was drenched in sauce which is not the problem, it just lacked flavor The Birria quesadilla was nothing special. The rice and beans were different than what I was used to. I will say the drink was good! I loved the look of it and the taste. A few hiccups but they did try to make it right as much as they could.

Stopped at Amelia's for lunch and was immediately drawn in by the intimate setting--every table full, the room buzzing with animated chatter. The presentation is where this place really shines. The enchiladas arrive plated like artwork--set in a pool of vibrant green sauce, finished with delicate crema patterns that look almost hand-painted across the plate. Topped with fresh greens, pickled red onions, and crumbled cheese, it's a beautiful mix of color, texture, and intention that makes the dish feel elevated before you even take a bite. Flavor absolutely lives up to the look--bright, fresh, and well-balanced. Only small miss: the enchiladas came out a bit lukewarm. Still, a great overall experience and definitely worth a visit.

My expectations weren't high here, but I definitely enjoyed this place. It is a bit cramped, yes, and Tucson's aggressively hot summers make the plentiful outdoor seating prohibitive, but thankfully I was able get indoor seating and it was quite comfortable and pleasant. The decor was colorful and had a home feeling that I appreciated. Speaking of asthetics, the margarita glasses were very pretty and that was something that stuck with me. Anyway, the food, isn't that why we're all here? The birria is the absolute best I've had so far in Tucson. Flavorful, savory and tender and delicious! Now, I am going to go into what I don't like too much and you're going to wonder why this place got 4 stars instead of 3, but I'll put it all together, I promise. First off, the Carne Asada, which I had to try since that's the thing I'm doing in Tucson, was very poor. The cut was bad, it was a tad dry and only mildly flavorful. Not good. The jalapeño chicken taco was bland. Chicken a tad overcooked. But the margarita was tremendous. I really enjoyed it and the glass. It was strong but balanced well. Made with intention to satisfy, not cut costs. Much appreciated! Speaking of which, a frozen margarita was ordered and it was watery with almost no alcohol. When made aware of this, the server explained that it was made earlier and he apologized and gave a free shot to balance it out. So he also contributed to the fourth star. All in all, the stuff I liked here I REALLY liked. The stuff that wasn't so good I could just skip and still find happiness. I do recommend this place and I'll be back.

Here's what you need to order: The combo platter with potato taquito, spinach tamale (best tamale we've EVER had), shrimp enchilada, the quesabirria with caldo, JASS taco, and choco flan. Our awesome server Eddie recommended all of these and they were nothing short of amazing. This place has ruined Mexican food for us.... we'll be chasing this high forever. If they were semi finalists for the James Beard award who in the world were the finalists? I can't imagine it getting any better than this. The place is small so make a reservation unless you want to sit out in the heat.

The location is small and the parking is sparse (more in the back). The waitress was nice and helpful. The food was okay. I was expecting much more given the yelp reviews. However, I tried the pastor and asada tacos ... small and basic. My son tried the biarria ... very little filling and again basic.

I really had high expectations for this place. Parking spaces in front very limited & inside has very small space felt really crammed inside. The outside bit better has more space in between tables. Now as service at first they were fast and helpful once we got food they never came back check on us. As food mole enchilada awful no taste flavorless the rest was okay. The food was cold too.

I love the North side Amelias location, and decided to give this one a try with an out of town friend - we both loved it! I knew this is where I wanted to take my out of town friend who wanted Mexican food! My birria tacos were juicy and loaded with meat, the salas were flavorful, and my friend loved her chimi! We were seated outside on a beautiful night, and the staff handled the line expertly and got everyone taken care of with a smile! This is an absolute go-to for Mexican!

Amelia's Mexican Kitchen 5553 East Grant Road Tucson, Arizona 85712 Good food, straight up. This place fills up fast with local foodies who clearly got the memo--traditional Mexican food done right. If you're not trying to fight for a table like it's a championship round, slide through during non-peak hours... or go tactical and take it to-go. I liked this spot a lot. Five stars for customer service, food prep, and plating that looks like it came out ready for its close-up. If you're in Tucson, do yourself a favor and grab the authentic machaca (dried-beef) burrito--that thing is a problem (in the best way). Recommended. Jordan

Rosa was our server. She was warm and attentive which we always like and really makes the experience whether food is good or not. I had the combo and my wife and son had the birria ramen. Also shared a guacamole. The food was so delicious but the presentations were well put together and showed pride in the product. We went for breakfast but didn't make it in time but still enjoyed our experience.

First time here. This is one busy place! Chips and salsa arrived quickly as did some heat from the heaters as we sat outside. The place is not huge; seating: 1/2 outdoors, others indoors. The special combo plate was delicious with shrimp enchilada, spinach tamale and chicken toquito ... yes those were my choices; you can choose yours. My friend ate 2 chili rellenos and both meals came with rice, beans, sour cream and guacamole. Rosa was our server and on top of all our needs, thank you for the fast service and good food!

Wildcat burrito - delicious but spicy with all the jalapeños
    Cindy N.

The breakfast burritos here are absolutely amazing. I like the Wildcat Burrito, and Amelia's is known for their award winning Machaca Burrito. The interior is smaller than the other location, and unfortunately, they do not provide chips and salsa here like the other location. The music and colorful mural inside is neat. Service can be a little slow but the servers are still polite.

Love the wall of chianti bottles that lead to the bar and love that the staff dress up in casual Prohibition garb. Came here for girl's night and it was everyone's first time even at the restaurant but mine. I'd had dinner a couple times in the restaurant for my birthday and had the cheese wheel fettuccine alfredo. I asked if anyone was interested in trying it and so 3 of us split it which ended up being pretty perfect. It is hands down THE BEST fettuccine alfredo. We had many drinks come to our table, the first round being the homemade limoncello. Made with local Meyer lemons, it is deliciously potent. A must try. The bartender, Ryan or Brian, he made cocktails from the heart. A couple of gals ordered "dealer's choice" drinks and they were inspired by the drinker's stories. It was really a unique experience for them and I could almost see his mind working out the chemistry of the libations. Another must try, although I didn't because I had to drive myself home. I did have a coffee with Bailey's, Amaretto, and freshly-made whipped cream. Last must try if not on a coffee drink maybe on a dessert. One person in our party thought that the drinks were on the spendy side. Many of the ingredients were house made and all top shelf. I'm from Los Angeles so an $18 drink was a normal night at the klerb. Worth mentioning if that would be a deal breaker. Worth a go. I thought it was better than the speakeasy at the Sonoran House which was too bright and not intimate. You really like feel more like you're not where you're supposed to be at The Still. There is a curio cabinet with cigars that I think are for sale. The speakeasy opens up to the patio for all the smoke suckers. Great for a small groups or date night, maybe not the first date.

The first thing I need to own is that it's a shame I hadn't visited here before. We arrived at 5:30p and both the bar and patio areas were packed - standing room only, and no wonder. They have one of the better happy hours (daily! 3:00 - 6:30p) - able to accommodate both the slacker and the over-timer Lol. Basic drinks are all discounted such as house wines, well drinks, and beers. Their bottled wines and craft cocktails are all exempt though. Many of their appetizers are also discounted and some quite substantially. We grabbed a glass of the house cabernet ($6, normally $8) and the grilled shrimp wrapped in jalapeno bacon ($13, normally $20). NOTE: happy hour pricing is Only available if you order/consume at the bar or on the patio at that's clear in advance and understandable. The dining areas were only half full at this early point (but filled up by 6:30) and the host kindly encouraged us to enjoy our starters at the bar as she would hold our table. We were then sat near the "back" of this long venue and frankly, aside from the lone windowed table at the very front, this would be my preferred seating - cozy, intimate, with only five other tables around us. For dinner drinks she got an Italian Nebbiolo Bricco Magno Red Blend ($13/glass, reliably terrific/mellow) and I got the Chupacabra ($15) Mezcal/prickly pear cocktail, strong and excellent as well. We got an additional appetizer: the roasted bone marrow ($19). I had never had before but she raved about how good this can be if done properly (bonus, it is super healthy). Folks, a picture/worth a 1000... suffice to say this was simply outstanding! We both had long work weeks and were craving meat - just a damn good steak. Our waiter, without blinking recommended the 8oz bison filet mignon ($65) as his absolute menu fav, and the day's special: 14oz ribeye ($50). We ordered each. All dinners come with two sides and we each got the day's special: roasted half artichoke and she got the loaded baked potato while I got the mashed potatoes. Food arrived in about 15 minutes later at good temperature (warm/rested with a strong char) with each being accurately grilled (medium and medium-rare). Taste was outstanding. Neither one of us had bison filet before and marveled how it (subtly) added a "wild" edge to an always outstanding, lean-but-tender, cut of beef. The loaded baked was terrific, however, the mashed was the only disappointment... a plainer mash one could not make themselves - pure white and borderline dry, no milk, butter, egg, gravy(?), nothing to make it creamy or add any flavor dimension - a surprise frankly. The only other "critique" is that the dessert menu could add some kind of dark/chocolate concoction. All in all, though, we loved our experience and have decided to add this to our periodic special dinners rotation! Staff was outstanding - just the proper balance of attentive and quiet - and waters never went below half empty. Parking is free and plentiful, especially behind the restaurant (and yes, if you continue on around the back there is another long entrance/exit driveway that comes out the other side of Jimmy John's and Noodleholics.

Where they seemed to sit everyone coming into the restaurant. If the restaurant was packed I would understand but every other room was empty. Who wants to sit along the pathway to the bathroom? Service was so/so. Had to ask for drinks multiple times. But frankly the quality of the food was not worth the cost. Definitely will not be returning, until they revamp the menu to include less French style and more uniquely inspired fresh food. I mean if we wanted French we would have gone to Le Rendezvous or Wild Garlic which are top notch.

Interesting a big group of teens maybe 15-20 came in maybe school class / group w adult teacher? They sat in two big booths excited to try lunch at highly acclaimed La Frida Mexican Grille & Seafood . Fun to see them ! La Frida Mexican Grill & Seafood lives up to its hype 5 star reputation ! " I'll be back ! "
