I've been to Italy--including Sicily--more times than most people have left California, and my partner even holds an Italian birth certificate. With that context, we don't take Italian food lightly. That's exactly why Ippolito's Trattoria stands out. Nick, the owner, is there seven days a week. Whether he's running the kitchen like a true master or walking the dining room checking in with guests, his presence is constant. His wife is often by his side, and together they've built something that feels less like a restaurant and more like a family. The staff reflects that--welcoming, attentive, and genuinely warm. Now, the food. The chicken parmigiana is massive--easily two meals--and executed perfectly. The chicken is tender, well-seasoned, and balanced. We usually start with calamari or a shared salad, both consistently excellent. I'm especially particular about carbonara, and this is the only place in Sacramento that truly gets it right. No shortcuts. No cream. No smoked bacon. They respect the tradition--using proper ingredients like guanciale or pancetta and incorporating the egg the way it's meant to be. It's easily the best carbonara I've had in years. The arancini are another highlight. If you've ever made them at home, you know the effort involved--this is the real deal. Crispy outside, rich and flavorful inside, and absolutely authentic. The bread is baked fresh daily by Nick, and it shows. The pasta is artisan-quality, also made fresh, and sourced from a trusted local partner. Every detail reflects care and intention. Dessert is not an afterthought here. The tiramisu--made in-house--is flawless. And the cannoli? Outstanding. The shells have the perfect crunch, and the fillings are rich without being overpowering. Even the pizzelle cookies are done right. Really enjoyed our first experience here! I've had it on my want-to-visit list for a while and tonight was the night!! It did not disappoint. We started with the burrata. It was delish! Creamy and served over arugula with grape tomatoes. I thought it was perfect. I ordered the casarecce gamberetti. The shrimp were cooked to perfection. The veggies fresh and crisp enough. The pasta yummy! The sauce light and not overpowering. My husband ordered the eggplant Parmesan and it was so good!! I really enjoyed the thick rounds of eggplant. It was served with the casarecce and marinara. My husband got a cannoli to go. No picture there - he inhaled it before I got one. He said it's in his top three and he's tried many!! Came here for a special occasion and made a reservation for dinner. Definitely out of the way and in a pretty random spot, a true hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but we were seated immediately and the inside was much more charming than the outside. Very family-owned vibes while still feeling nice and welcoming. Service was great throughout the meal, and our waiter gave us some really good recommendations and information about the menu. They also corked our wine and kept it on ice, which was a nice touch. To start, we ordered the fried stuffed ravioli and bruschetta. We were also given complimentary fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic, which was a great addition. The fried ravioli was very good, kind of like a fancier mozzarella stick, and the marinara it came with was flavorful and balanced. The bruschetta was perfect: crusty bread topped with sweet, fresh tomatoes. So simple but so good. For mains, we ordered the carbonara and the wild mushroom ravioli. The mushroom ravioli was excellent, meaty and earthy in an addicting truffle cream sauce where the truffle flavor really shines through. The carbonara came out extremely hot, so it was initially hard to fully taste the flavors, but once it cooled a bit it was delicious. Maybe it could've used a touch more salt, but still very good overall. The pancetta was nice too, maybe just a little crispier and more rendered would've taken it even further, but it still brought that fatty, salty flavor I love. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu along with the chocolate and caramel cannolis. The cannolis were good, not anything especially memorable, but still a nice treat. The tiramisu completely stole the show. It was made fresh, which I was initially unsure about since tiramisu usually sits for a while, but the texture was amazing because the ladyfingers still had a slight crispness to them. We took the rest home, and after firming up overnight it was somehow even better the next day. Honestly the best tiramisu I've ever had. After waiting a few minutes they asked if the bar was okay. Party of 1 - so they sat me at the bar. Long story short, this is place is a gem and if you're in the Rancho area I'd be willing to say this is the best if not one of the best local Italian restaurants. My wife and I went for valentines dinner here, and we were both blown away with every dish both in taste and preparation, one of the few places I would say serves almost too much food. The complimentary bread was light and fluffy and was more than just some lame bread. Our apps were the bruschetta and the fried ravioli. The bruschetta comes out on fresh toasted bread, just enough to give it a crunch but still with a soft center- the tomatoes tasted fresh and there is also some toasted cheese on the bottom and some garlic on top, definitely sets the bar for a good bruschetta. The fried ravioli were huge and completely filled with cheese, the fry was perfectly crispy and every bite was better than the last- the highlight though might have been the marinara it came with, which honestly might have been one of the best marinaras I've had at a restaurant, just super, super flavorful. Apps definitely get a 5/5 For our entrees I got the chicken parm and she got the spaghetti. I've said before in my reviews that I'm a bit of a protein snob and I love my extra protein, but without even asking the protein on each dish was more than enough, and the dishes themselves were enormous. My chicken was juicy, crispy, and super well seasoned. Her spaghetti has so much sausage in it, and it was so good- even the noodles themselves had a handmade bite to them. Just a fantastic 5/5 experience for both dishes. My only warning is to be careful of the orange drizzle, it's very spicy! I've been here three separate times now, and it never disappoints. It was originally recommended by a coworker who's fully Italian--and she absolutely loves it--so I had high expectations going in. The first time I visited, I was surprised by how empty it was during lunch, but the food completely won me over. I ordered the lunch carbonara with an Ippolito salad, and both were so good. I'm still surprised at how much I enjoyed the Swiss truffle burger. It was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and even the fries were crispy. I was with a group reservation for lunch and it seemed like everything went smoothly. Ambiance was casual and service was great. On a previous visit, I tried the caprese panini and seafood pasta. This place was absolutely packed due to a Women's conference I attended at Destiny Church. We walked over during the break and we order a few salads which we were told were a decent size and a pasta dish to split. The salads came out quickly and the were loaded. The dressing was already applied but it wasn't drenched. We got the Ippolito Spinach salad and the Caesar Salad. The Tuscan chicken and shrimp pasta had a kick to it. The shrimp was juicy and the sun-dried tomatoes drenched in sauce were so appropriately paired with the chicken. Been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally got my chance on a recent Friday evening. I was fairly surprised to see it mostly empty despite all the good reviews. I loved the Italian Tuscan decor inside and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We ordered bruschetta to start and I don't know what they did but that was some of the BEST bruschetta I have ever had! 5/5!! We also ordered minestrone (I thought it was great but my partner thought it was standard), lasagna, and veal parmigiana. My lasagna was EXCELLENT!! Wow. Perfectly cheesy and the sauce was out of this world. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The veal was excellent as well and served with some noodles. The noodles weren't super special but I thought paired well with the excellent veal. For desert we had to try the Carmel and chocolate connolis. The connolis don't compare to what you can find in Boston but definitely some of the best connolis I have found in California. Came here for dinner with my family as we had never been here before despite having spent so much time living nearby! The restaurant is very clean and beautiful inside. The staff were super friendly, nice, and attentive. The restaurant has lots of parking in the front and is easy to miss because it is in a shopping center off a not so busy road. They have a nice sized menu of different items. I ordered their wild mushroom tortellini, my brother ordered the fettuccine alfredo, and my mom got a salmon dish but I can't remember the name. I enjoyed my pasta, the filling of the tortellini was nice, the white sauce it came in was a bit bland. The sauce tastes heavily of cream without a lot of salt or pepper or Parmesan. The portions are decent, the plates they serve the food in are huge so that may be why the portions don't look as big. Our food came out quickly. We visited Sacramento over Mother's Day weekend and decided to try Ippolito's Trattoria for the first time. There were three of us: my significant other, her mother, and I. Ippolito's is located in a shopping center near Highway 50. The space is large and nicely set up. As you enter, you have two separate seating areas. It seemed like the one on the right, where we sat, was less formal. However, it is equally nice and comfortable. The restaurant is family-owned and operated, which is always a big plus in my mind! We were greeted by the father of the family, a very pleasant young man, who had taken a breather from working in the kitchen and helped us get a table. Our server, a pleasant and polite young man, was very helpful answering our questions and helping us decide. We started with two glasses of wine, a Chianti, a Pinot Grigio, and a Peroni. For an appetizer, we shared a Burrata that came with fresh burrata cheese, basil, and arugula, topped with a tasty balsamic glaze. Everything went just fine for this round, but then differences of opinion came in when we ordered our main dishes! We ordered Lasagna, Gnocchi Gorgonzola, and Casarecce Gamberetti, which was my choice. The dishes are not made in classic Italian style, so if you are a traditionalist when it comes to Italian dishes, you may not be fully satisfied, and that is what happened with my companions. I took my first bite of Casarecce Gamberetti and was very happy with the flavor, but the same could not be said about my companions, so I switched my plate for the Lasagna, but that did not help! The Lasagna is not what you may expect, but it was fine. You could argue that the pasta was just a bit overcooked, but the flavor was just fine. The sauce was an orangish color that I liked, but I was so concerned about what was happening around our table that I did not figure out what it was made of! As for the Gnocchi, that too was not the traditional Gnocchi you may have in mind, but it tasted good to me. To make a long story short, I finished my Lasagna and ended up with two to-go boxes for the Casarecce and the Gnocchi! And, I did enjoy them both later at home as two separate meals. I am not a picky eater, so I may be more forgiving in certain cases, but in this case, I really did not see anything wrong with the dishes, except the fact that they were not classic style. Judging from the crowd that was walking in and out with big smiles on their faces, I probably am not too far off in my opinion of the place and the food. My family recently dined at Ippolito's Trattoria and we are so happy we uncovered this hidden gem of a restaurant! It's tucked into an unassuming strip mall off Bradshaw. They had happy hour until 6, so we started off with calamari which was delicious (and all rings which is my fav). We tried the Tuscan chicken (which wasn't my fav, out of all the things we tried), filet mignon (my son), and my husband and other son shared the chicken Parmesan, which they both enjoyed and it was big enough to share. The star of the show for me was the warm bread they bring out prior to your meal. It's seriously some of the best bread I've ever had and it tastes homemade. All the pastas are made from scratch in-house. We were too full to try any of the desserts, but will save room next time we go. read more

I tried this place out earlier this evening while meeting some co-workers at Geisthaus Brewing. Their prices aren't bad for what you get and the food was excellent. I got myself a prosciutto wrapped burger and shared some onion rings and calamari with my group. Everything tasted great. I'm not sure if they usually get slammed with orders for the brewery but I found myself waiting almost an hour for my food to get dropped off while everyone else at my table got their orders much sooner. They also never texted me that they were on my way so I had to keep checking every delivery to see if my food was there. I might try them again at the brewery or dine in if I'm in the area again. I really did enjoy their food and the person on the phone seemed very courteous. I was just disappointed that I had to wait nearly an hour for my food which felt kind of crazy. read more

The Ippolito Insalata had good flavor , however the breadcrumbs on top were like eating sand. The plate it was served on was too small for the serving so I was picking my salad off the table. Ordered the garlic bread with marinara... no garlic flavor and the marinara was orange and had a spice that made it almost tikka masala-esque. They were out of Lasagna and didn't tell us when we sat so we had to pivot- ordered pizza, the all meat. It was pepperoni and some weird balled up meat that had no resemblance to sausage. It tasted like an under seasoned chicken meatball. Was asked if we wanted parm in our pizza- it was out of container, not fresh grated;Service was fine. Would not return and would not recommend. My friends and I went to Geisthaus Brewing for drinks and trivia on a Thursday evening and they don't have food but they let you order from Ippolito's which is next door and will deliver to the front counter of the brewery. I've been wanting to try their food since I've heard so many great things about them and they make their own pasta, which is hard to find. Their menu is on the smaller side but this is a good thing as it's easier to decide and they have a good assortment of dishes. They have some gluten free options as well. We decided to share family style and picked the Margherita Pizza, the Pasta with Chicken and Shrimp, the Chicken Wings with fries and the fried ravioli. The pizza was solid and had a nice amount of toppings. The ravioli's were solid tasty, still freshly fried so they had a nice texture and are large my only qualm is for the price point ($10.50) I think there should be another ravioli or 2. The house marinara used as a dipping sauce was really flavorful and a nice thick consistency. The wings were nice and crispy still, cooked perfectly. The fries however were kinda limp and on the cool side. Maybe it's because of the transport time to the restaurant or not venting the to go box, I'm not sure but next time I'll add a note to make sure they are timed with the rest of the meal to prevent this. Now the star of the show, the Chicken and Shrimp Pasta in a cream sauce (Tuscan). First the pasta is handmade, a fun shape that holds a lot of sauce well which I love. The cream sauce was really tasty, I usually add salt and pepper to everything and it wasn't needed, this was nicely seasoned. My only request would be adding little to go containers of Parmesan and red chili peppers for those of us that like our pizza and pasta hot and extra cheesy. The portion on the pasta was generous and had a good amount of the proteins which was appreciated. I would give them another half star, but I guess it will have to wait for me to go to the actual restaurant so I can get the full service experience. Check them out! read more

January 23, 2025 - Sacramento, CA I have been wanting to try this restaurant ever since reading the Sacramento Bee article last September that named Ippolito's Trattoria as the region's most underrated Italian restaurant. So when a friend suggested we meet there for lunch, I quickly agreed. There were 3 in our party, and I arrived first. I liked the ambiance of the restaurant, which gave off a cozy Italian vibe. But I had to wait a few minutes at the hostess stand before staff took notice that I was there. The layout of the restaurant is such that it is divided into two sections. I was led to the section with the bar, and was seated in a booth next to a window. I noticed immediately after being seated that the silverware on the table had this weird white fuzzy stuff on it (see my photo). Maybe lint from a towel? I don't know what it was, but I pointed it out to the server and he replaced it with no comment. The replacement silverware he provided had fingerprints all over it, so I'm not feeling we are off to a good start. My friends soon arrived, and we all decided to order the lunch special lasagna ($20.00), which supposedly came with salad and garlic bread. I ordered the Ippolito's salad (the other choice was Caesar.) Some of the lettuce in the salad I received was partially frozen, which made for an odd texture. I liked the ingredients in the salad, and the dressing, and if it weren't for the odd bits of frozen lettuce, I would have enjoyed this salad. We were told the garlic bread wasn't out of the oven yet, but would be served soon. On another note, the servers had on black aprons that were smeared with what looked like flour. It was not the most appealing look for serving food. Our lasagna arrived, and as we were served, we were again told that the garlic bread wasn't quite ready, but would be out soon. The look of the lasagna wasn't really appealing. It was a lump buried under a salmon-colored sauce, which seemed a bit odd to me. But okay, looks can be deceiving. Anyway, what I should have done was sent the lasagna back after the first bite, because it was not hot. I'm not sure why I didn't, but you know when you get that feeling that if you send it back, what you get in return is going to be worse that what you have??? It was kind of like that. The lasagna was cold, and the flavor was bland. So overall, not good. The garlic bread? Never did arrive. Now for the restroom...no hook to hang your handbag in the stall. Not at all okay...where am I supposed to put my bag, on the floor??? And they were out of paper towels. I wanted to let a staff member know, but as I left, there were no staff to be found. As I exited into the parking lot, I saw one of the servers in his car parked in front of the restaurant smoking a cigarette. I understand the need for breaks, but maybe a more discreet parking place would be more appropriate in this case. I will definitely not be back. read more

We had plans to come back to try other dishes but after I saw the amount I was charged vs. the amount I wrote in for the total on the receipt, no thank you. I struggle with what exactly to give this restaurant. The ambience is as good as one could get despite its strip mall location off the freeway. The service was attentive, and good. The food, or what I could eat of it, tasted delicious. However my lasagna came burned and essentially with the bottom 2 or 3 layers inedible. I really wanted to like this place but service was kind of strange, probably because the servers were really young. It was kind of endearing though. When the 9 of us arrived for our reservations at 6pm on a Saturday night, our server Katie sat us at two tables side by side. We weren't sure why we were set up that way so we asked if we could push the tables together. Katie said it was fine but that people would have a hard time getting out if we had to get up. We said it was fine. Then we asked about the available wines by the bottle and it took her a very long time to come back with the information. We eventually ordered a bottle of Chianti and Chardonnay. To make the bill easier to manage, we had two bills for the table. Each group ordered appetizers to share. As starters, our side of the table ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms, Burrata, and the full Caesar Salad. The full size was a very large portion. For our entrees, we had Lasagna, Chicken Parmesan, Tuscan Chicken and Shrimp (with gluten free pasta), and Salmon Livornese. Everything tasted great and the portions were a good size. What we didn't like was the service. There was an older gentleman who kind of ran the show directing the young servers but when he arrived with our dishes, he made it seem like we were at a Denny's, yelling out the name of the dishes and abruptly dropping them off. The young busser was nice and I liked that he asked if we wanted water refills versus wasting water and just filling all the glasses. However, he could work on being more smooth. Our server was not very attentive. It took her a very long time to bring us chili flakes. $225.63 for four of us and it included gratuity so I think it's a pretty good deal for a big family meal for 4 of us. We went out with some friends. We were able to be sat without reservations early on Friday night. We were immediately sat and our server Kate was so attentive and great! They have only beer and wine license not a full bar. The pasta was made in house. The are many big tables so a big party is easily accommodated here. We all had enjoyed our meals, the lasagna and spaghetti were delicious. However the tiramisu was so light and delicious! read more

I wish I lived near here! I'd be coming all the time. We were visiting in the area and looking for a place to eat and chose Ippolito's because the reviews and pics looked great. So glad we did! This place was five stars all the way! The service was excellent a very accommodating and friendly. Pasta made in house excellent! The appetizers were great we got the fried raviolis. I ordered the carbonara which was delicious, you can tell the pasta is handmade fresh noodles. And the other dish I tried was their specialty pasta, which was also excellent a nice spice to the dish. We also got two desserts and they were amazing. I really loved their version of a crème brûlée. I also had an Italian soda, which was also delicious. Everything was great. Tasty and fresh food. My son enjoyed the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. Tuscan chicken and shrimp was good but drowning in sauce. Service was slow given we were the only ones there. read more

This restaurant is a gem! I feel like I'm in Italy with the decor and Italian music! The food was fabulous! I'll be going back.

Everything I've had is amazing! As much as I want to gatekeep this place I just have to share that every time I've been here the service is phenomenal, take out and dine in. Pizza, bread and pasta is perfect every time. Their pasta sauce is incredible. I don't know how they get their bread like that but oh my god. They are all the nicest people too. read more
