I love the idea of having a quaint and semi romantic dining experience, in a lovely setting. Willow offers all of that, with a lovely hotel above the restaurant. I've been here several times for happy hour, and dinner, and the first couple of times, it was a fairly enjoyable experience. I think they call this diminished capacity. The last couple of times, the service was lackluster at best, and the food was so underwhelming, it just left me with the ick feeling. The last time we'll probably be literally my last time. We had reservations, and initially we were seated at a dirty table, which was perplexing, being told that someone would come by and clean it. Why wasn't it cleaned before we were seated?! The menus that we were presented with, had food stains all over them, and we had a request clean menus. Service was lacking, even in addition to the seating and menus. It took what felt like forever for someone to come to the table and acknowledge us, offer us drinks, etc. We decided to skip drinks and try appetizers with the thought being we would have an enjoyable dining experience and then figure out dinner after we enjoy the appetizers. The appetizers arrived 20+ minutes after we ordered, and how many different ways can we say awful?! hot food should not be served semi lukewarm. We ordered the meatballs, and the actual meatballs themselves were very heavy tasting, not very flavorful, and they tasted like they've been sitting out for a while. The marinara was extremely bitter, and it was almost like an afterthought with the two of them put together. Something that is a natural combination just was not good. The roasted butternut squash soup was tasty, but again heat is a major issue with their food. Soup is supposed to be hot and this wasn't. We opted to forgo anything from the dinner menu because after two appetizers and an unfavorable experience, there was no point in ordering more food. The location is near the middle of downtown and attached to a Hilton hotel. The inside is very hip and modern; however, the food here is mediocre. If you have the Hilton Surpass, you get enough credit to have one lunch meal here. This is an FYI for all the credit card churners who need to use their resort credit: Hilton Surpass will work, but not Hilton Aspire. Now for the food: the hamburger was ordered medium. The edges were well done but the middle was medium-rare and somehow cold. The wedges were hot on the outside, but the inside was undercooked and firm. The only great thing to write about is the sauces they had for the hamburger and wedges. The sauces were good, but not enough to compensate. read more

We were a party of 13 celebrating a retirement so we reserved the Willow Room private dining space that was perfect for that many. It had a nice table for gifts and a TV available along the back wall, although we didn't use it. We pre-ordered a host of shareables like beef sliders, focaccia, flatbread, caesar salad, and meatballs, which were all delicious. Everyone picked a dessert to celebrate and the range was awesome, from cheesecakes to creme brulee and affogatos, everyone was excited about getting their own sweet treat. The service was great, everyone felt attended to and their drinks refilled timely. It really helped make the event a perfect send-off for someone who spent 32 years with us! Came here since it is located right in our hotel and conveniently in close proximity to an event we were going to and we were not disappointed! This was one of the best meals we had in a while. My husband had the burger and I had the beer salad. The beet salad came with an amazing whipped ricotta that was so unique, and to this day I still think about it. I would love to come back here just for the salad alone, but I must try the whole menu. :) Definitely recommend if you're staying at the hotel or nearby. Last night my best friend and I went out for a dine downtown at Willow. We were excited to try this new place located in/connected to the Exchange Hotel. For parking we parked in the central DOCO garage, but street parking is available, as well as valet. If you do park in the garage, be sure to take a stroll over to one of the shops/restaurants in DOCO to get your ticket validated. I love the decor of Willow and inside was well lit, and not too bright, which I appreciated. We were there to celebrate my grandma's 2nd heavenly birthday, as well as just enjoy a nice dinner and night out. We had never been here before. I definitely loved what I ordered, which was the bruschetta, chicken, and marquis cake. Presentation of everything was beautiful. The bruschetta was delicious and I would love to order that again. As a person who is not a fan of beets outside of the juice, that salad was surprisingly good! For the entrée I had the chicken dish, which was very tasty! The chicken was cooked to perfection and oh my goodness the skin was perfectly seasoned and crispy! My only complaint was that everything but the chicken on my entree plate was room temperature, which was a bummer. My best friend ordered the paccheri and we both agreed that it would have been better if the sauce had been stoked into the noodles for longer because it basically just tasted like the noodles and bolognese were two separate dishes. There were also so many diced carrots in the sauce and that seemed excessive. I actually was mostly looking forward to the marquis cake as soon as I saw it on the dine downtown menu when I was choosing a place to go. And I'm so glad it lived up to my expectations! 15/10 dessert! The cheesecake was good, but kind of just tasted like an everyday cheesecake. I also enjoyed the two drinks I got, which was the berry agua fresca and New Year, New Mule. Both tasted wonderful, but as someone who doesn't drink and for the higher prices, I would have liked to see some zero proof products included in the mocktail items. Our server, Maia, was so nice and funny and checked on us often and even offered us some coupons for next time since the service was a little bit slow, which we didn't mind, but she noted it was not usual. We were happy to take everything in and get to talk. Not that we didn't appreciate the two comped drinks that we got as well! Thank you again! I would definitely like to come back and see what a regular service would be like and maybe try some things on the menu that are more unique. My girlfriend and I decided to celebrate my 27th birthday at Willow. The reservations were made through Open Table and we had selected "birthday" as the reason for the meal. Our server checked us in but did not acknowledge that we were celebrating a birthday the entire meal. I asked what gins they had available and the server had to ask the bartender. I then ordered a gin & tonic with lime. The server returned with a gin & tonic with blood orange and blackberry. We ordered the mixed greens salad from the shareables to start. Halfway through our appetizer, our server brought out our entrees. She did apologize for not giving us ample time to finish our appetizer but said "I figured you'd want them hot." I had ordered the short rib entree and my girlfriend ordered the salmon. The short rib was served with a potato puree, roasted squash, and herb salad. However, they place the herb salad (which was just the mixed greens minus baby lettuce) right next to the short rib and squash, so it was wilted and soggy. The short rib itself was not tender and required a knife to cut through, and had very little flavor other than just salt. It was also extremely fatty. I've ordered short rib from other restaurants before, but never had to use a knife or cut through an entire layer of fat sitting on top of the meat. I don't mind fat throughout the cut of the meat and I know that it is to be expected when ordering short rib, but this was a very thick layer right on top and on the sides (see picture). The potato puree was the only palatable part of the entree. My girlfriend ordered the salmon which came with a parsnip puree and asparagus. The asparagus was cooked nicely, but the salmon tasted like we picked up a filet from Trader Joe's and air fried it. Our reservations were at 5:15 and we were the only ones in the restaurant upon our arrival. By the time we finished dinner an hour and a half later, there was only one other party of 3 dining. The restaurant itself was very bright and the music was not conducive to a nice dinner with 2010 pop hits playing the entire time. I had been to Willow for brunch a couple years ago and enjoyed it, but I don't think we will be returning for dinner anytime soon. read more

My husband chose this place to take me for my birthday and it was one of the restaurants I wanted to try during the dine downtown offerings so it was a win win for both. It is walking distance from the doco area and love how it is a corner restaurant with large windows. Walking in gives you city vibes and the decor was very chic. I decided to order off the dine downtown menu which was a three course set at a fixed price. Each of the dishes were well plated and tasted so delicious my coworkers were asking where i had gone when i posted on instagram. My husband ended up getting the paccheri one of the pasta dishes. A coworker and I went to try out The Willow in Sacramento on 4th and J Street...let me tell you (EVERYTHING) we tried was TOP Notch FABULOSO!!! Did you hear me?!?! FABULOSO!!! We started off with the Mixed Green Salad...so fresh from the fresh greens, the sweet/firm cherry tomatoes to the croutons everything just married together perfectly and it was topped off with a very nice tasting vinaigrette. Then we enjoyed the MOST delicious Egg Plant Parmesan OH MY, my mouth is watering just remembering how delicious this was...the egg plant was cooked to perfection with these crunchy edges along the sides of the egg plant. Topped with a perfectly delicious marinara sauce with creamy cheese layered all in between the dish...OH My goodness this is definitely a MUST try...if I'm in the area I'm getting this dish for a carry out lunch!!! Oh yes and it was pared with the sweetest asparagus perfectly cooked...all very delicious!!! Then we tried The Roasted Rack of Lamb...this was perfectly and tenderly cooked and seasoned to perfection (let me tell you!!! You will not be disappointed) the entire dish was delectable...it also had a pesto green sauce with mint flavors that added and enhanced the flavors of deliciousness to this dish. It was paired with sweet baby carrots and broccoli...I'm telling you I was ready to just lick all my plates clean...!!! Just delectable a definite MUST try!!! We topped off our dinner with a huge piece of delicious tiramisu which was very, very flavorful and I tried the peaches with snickerdoodle crust topped with ice cream...just super yummy!!! My co worker enjoyed their dry white wine which she completely enjoyed and I had a unique drink I believe it was called No Need to Bob made with Markers Mark and I really enjoyed my drink as well!!! Our server was just a tremendous as our meal. He answered all our questions. He was very knowledgeable on the items on the menu and his recommendations were very much appreciated!!! I apologize my memory bank does not serve me very well at my age and I'm terrible with names...but our server and the staff were over the top kind and very helpful...Our compliments to the chef!!! The thick, bouncy, fluffy in the middle pancake had a crisp outter of that you pleasantly crunch into. The enjoyable combination of lemon and their house syrup was combined by sweet rhubarb. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The service at Willow was completely unacceptable. Despite having a 7:00 PM reservation, we did not receive drinks until 8:00 PM, appetizers until around 8:30 PM, and our main course didn't arrive until 9:30 PM. That kind of delay is outrageous and inexcusable. To make matters worse, we were seated in a back room that was freezing. It was so cold that we had to wear thick jackets throughout dinner, which only added to the discomfort and poor experience. By the time the food finally arrived, it was so late that I had to leave. I immediately asked for my meal to be boxed and requested the check. While the server apologized and removed our drinks from the bill, a $10 credit does not come close to compensating for over two hours of waiting and an uncomfortable dining environment. This experience was a complete failure in service and hospitality. I will absolutely never return. read more

Willow delivers a true low-key upscale dining experience. The ambience is refined but welcoming, making it a great spot for date nights or a relaxed elevated evening out. We started at the bar with John, who was fantastic. His drinks were excellent, he was very attentive, knowledgeable, and engaging. He helped set the tone for a great night. At our table, we were pleasantly surprised to be served by Jordan, who we recognized from a place we used to frequent. His service was phenomenal -- attentive without hovering, perfectly paced, and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. Honestly some of the best service we've received in Sacramento. The only experience that compares for us is The Kitchen, which speaks volumes. We began with the pork belly sliders and seared scallops, both superb. For our mains, we had the Paccheri shrimp pasta, which was balanced and flavorful, and the Wagyu prepared medium, which was tender, rich, and high quality. Having brunch at Willow. We tried the Hamburger and Pork Belly Benedict. The burger was topped with a sweet onion relish rather than grilled onions, which made it a different layer of flavor. I attended a bridesmaids dinner in Willow's private room, separated from the main dining area by a curtain. It was very spacious and like the rest of the restaurant, had great aesthetic. Unfortunately, the service and food were subpar and make me believe that Willow is a gorgeous restaurant, but not necessarily one for delicious food. It was impossible to get timely service as we were in the private room and it took forever just for 5 pasta dishes to come out. The focaccia was thick and gummy and served with a small bowl of balsamic (no oil for some reason), meatballs were dry and dense, and rigatoni was bland, watery, and not al dente. However- the cocktails made the experience bearable...the raspberry lemon drops were quite good. Considering the meal averaged $100+ per seat, I would have expected higher food quality and timely service. read more

Great date night spot with beautiful vibes! My boyfriend and I came here for a date night and from start to finish it was such a pleasant experience. The customer service was great and while it wasn't too packed (we came a bit later) the staff still made us feel welcome and taken care of. The interior is gorgeous, I especially loved the purple tones, though we did wish the lighting was a bit dimmer to set more of a romantic vibe. Still, it felt modern and inviting, perfect for a night out. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked perfectly. Very flavorful without being too sweet or too bland. My boyfriend had the pasta with shrimp, and while it wasn't his favorite, I personally loved it and thought it was delicious. My drink was also great, wish I could remember the name because I'd definitely order it again! Overall would give this place 5 stars and would love to try other items! Dined at Willow for Father's Day with my family, for my father and myself. We originally had reservations at 12:30, but my sister wanted to dine with us. So we made a change the morning of without issue. My main family arrived about 10-15 minutes early, and we checked with the host. We waited for maybe 10 minutes while our table was set and then were promptly seated. We look a little time to look over the menu and what Willow had to offer. We started with just ordering drinks and the Banana Nut Bread appetizer. The service seemed really off/slow for some reason. It took a while to initially get our drinks first. We got our appetizers first, but were still waiting on our drinks for a while after. Then it took a while for someone to come by and refill our glasses throughout our dining experience. And lastly it took a while to get someone's attention just to get my father some bread. I don't know if they focus more on getting people seated and set, and then go off and do their own thing. But we literally tried getting the attention of our waiter or another waiter several times to no avail. One of those times my girlfriend literally made eye contact with the other male waiter, but he just walked away towards the bar and to the back area. I don't know if the waiters/waitresses assist others tables or not. But our waiter was behind the bar at the time, so it was impossible to get his attention either. I will say there was an older female waitress who was extremely nice and friendly. And went ijt her way to speak to my father and make him laugh. And she also asked what we ordered and said what dishes were her favorite. It wasn't a required thing from her, but was a nice gesture and really helped the experience. My sons lemon pancake arrived a little overdone on top and black towards the edges. It definitely looked overdone to all of us, but after some deliberation he decided to eat it anyways. Ot seemed better interally which was a positive. My girlfriend also got a white wine to go with her pasta, and I noticed the glass looked extremely thin at the top. And her glass literally ended up shattering while she was trying to wipe it off a bit, and the glass hit my arm and fell in our seat. We all were shocked that happened, but thankfully, our waiter replaced her glass without issue. Also just note that Willow doesn't take cash, which I haven't come across in a restaurant. I visited the willow with friends, we went in for lunch we absolutely loved the fig bruschetta and the misticanza greens salad for our shared appetizer. The steak sandwich & gnocchi was the best part of our main dishes. The drink menu was unapproachable but I tried the Hugo spritz that the server recommended. It wasn't on the menu however it was delightful. My new favorite go to spritz. Service was excellent but they can use a better drink menu options. Great wine selection. read more

Had dinner reservations on Valentine's Day for a party of 4 at 7:30pm. My party and I arrived at 7:15pm. The individual who checked us in was very kind and informed us that they were running "a few minutes behind" and if we would like, we could get a complimentary drink at the bar. As we waited, we headed to the bar and the bartender was confused when we said they had informed us drinks were "complimentary". Fast forward, we were seated at 8:20pm (almost an hour after our reservations). I understand being behind a few minutes on Valentine's Day BUT almost an HOUR?! Geez. Where do I begin with the food.. We ordered the rigatoni and it was undercooked. When we informed our waitress, we let them know that we would just prefer it to go considering it was a four course meal and we were already waiting for our next meal -- surf and turf. Surf and turf was cooked WRONG. They didn't bother asking us who got what when they dropped the plates off at the table. My partner got my order (well done) and I got his (medium rare). His order (medium rare) came out blue rare. At that point, we were so hungry and frustrated, we just dealt with it. Our waitress was really friendly and nice.. but horrible service. We waited almost 20 minutes for silverware and by the time we received it, our food was cold. They packed our "to go" order of the pastas which was the rib eye rigatoni and when we got home to unbox it, we received a completely DIFFERENT order; a different pasta with NO sauce what so ever (**picture included). Overall, for the price of this place ($175/person) and the food + service we received, it was most certainly NOT WORTH IT!! Super disappointed after reading the current reviews. They shouldn't over book if they're going to seat people almost an hour after their reservations. Got there at 7:15pm and left the restaurant at 11:30pm. Over 4 hours later....
