This place is incredible! I lived in Tokyo for 3 years and this was the best quality sushi I've had in the States in quite sometime.

The food is fresh and have unique selections which are absolutely delicious! Have to try Tuna Special Nigiri sushi and Albacore Special Roll John and his staff are attentive, friendly and very efficient. The place is a little crowded and loud, and wait times can be long but the quality of the food and service is definitely worth it. This place is pretty cool and I think it's worth a try for all their unique rolls. Always love a smaller sushi restaurant with a more intimate community feel. The lack of pictures on the menu makes ordering a little challenging, which is made more difficult when a few of the most popular rolls are not on the menu. However, our server was very helpful with navigating the menu and all staff were proactive and polite throughout the meal. When it comes to the food, I think this place is refreshing in how creative they are with their rolls. They incorporate some things I haven't seen on other sushi menus before, which made for a refreshing and interesting experience. While they don't all hit the target in my opinion, I really appreciate the creativity. A few highlights from our visit: Ghost roll- this one was the most remarkable in my opinion. It's topped with a seared scallop, which tastes exactly how the Fourth of July smells in your neighborhood, but in a good way. I don't think I've ever had anything quite like it before. HB Roll- this roll was topped with a lot of lemon zest with spicy mayo. Definitely something different, but I think they should reduce how much spicy mayo and zest they put on this roll (and other zest topped rolls), as it was a little overpowering Nancy roll- big fan, love the tempura crunch inside. Not as creative as the others, but I'm typically biased to simple plates done well. Next time roll- also a solid pick, fish was very fresh and soft. Irassae roll- great eel roll, although again I think a bit too heavy on the sauce. Summertime roll- another zest and green covered roll. Not as strong of flavor from the toppings (which I think is a good thing compared to the other options) but one of the fish in here had some cartilage in it, so wasn't the best eating experience. Tuna special (sushi pieces)- I liked how the creativity turned out on this one, balanced with chili oil and avocado. Overall, I think this place is worth visiting, but I don't see it becoming a part of my usual rotation, as I think other places do some of the more conventional sushi options better. Probably would bump it to 4 stars had the sauces/garnishes been more lightly applied, which I'm sure you could request. Definitely a great spot to choose for something different! read more

Busy busy place. We waited 1hour on a Saturday at 5:30. Once seated service was quick. All the sushi we ordered was delicious. Fresh, decent portions and a good variety of rolls. BEST Sushi in town!!!! Service is super friendly and the ambiance is like your dining at a friend's house. Smaller restaurant but very cozy. Always look at the specials board. We've never been disappointed. And the best 2 rolls to always get are the HB roll and the Ghost roll. We tried the no 9 this time and it was very good as well. If we're 4 people, I will get all three. The salmon, tuna, etc sushi are all really good. Large pieces of fresh fish in smaller amount of rice. Number ONE sushi spot in HB. Everything is fantastic. Fresh qualitY and unique flavors. In terms of nigiri the TUNA SPECIAL with their house sauce and avocado is delicious ( I am also not usually a tuna person but this is an exception). The salmon was also very fresh can't go wrong always a must for me. For rolls the off menu HUNTINGTON BEACH ROLL is a must and the GHOST ROLL was also delicious. I have never had such a great balance of fresh fish light rice and sauce which I usually prefer not to have but at this place it's worth getting everything as it comes no questions asked. Everything is so tasteful intentional and balanced. Also the GREEN TEA is thicker than most and washes down the meal perfectly with unlimited refills. A small detail but they have PINK GINGER which I love. New FAVORITE local spot an absolute must try! Service was very fast and ATTENTIVE and spaced out the order perfectly. Come here last night to eat with some friends. They insisted it was really good. Unfortunately I didn't have my phone on me to snap some shots of our food but let me say this...there were not wrong by any means. This place is a very good sushi spot, everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I don't even know what all the rolls were that we got because they weren't on the menu, I will have to come back and get those names and snap some shots because this is well worth a try. The place was PACKED! And rightfully so. I got a rainbow roll, a seared tuna plate and salmon hand roll. Everything was perfectly presented and delicious. Service was really good, lots of workers in there between servers and runners, everybody was on top of it. 10/10 reccomend. And I'll be sure to come again read more

I really enjoyed this spot Recommended by a friend we went with a party of 6 +1baby in a high chair, I will say the place is really small so we waited a while to be seated. The sushi was really good, fresh and when you ordered it came quick I will say as someone who doesn't do a lot of spice, my options were limited and I ordered a roll they don't have on the menu and asked for the chili it comes with to be taken off, after that it was perfect and yummy. The hype is real. One of my mom friends recommended this place and I'm so glad she did. What makes this place truly special are the quality cuts of fish and their unique sauces that I've never had with any other sushi restaurant. My boyfriend and I love this place! Please expect a wait as the area is small and cozy. We waited for an hour to an hour and a half when we got there around 5:10pm. We ordered the spicy edamame, two orders of the mixed sashimi, an order of the tuna special, two orders of the bluefin tuna, a fatboy roll, and a huntington beach roll. We are big sashimi people so this definitely hit the spot. The spicy edamame was a great appetizer - it wasn't too spicy or salty. The Fatboy roll had a citrus hit which my boyfriend liked. I preferred the HB roll. Everything was super fresh and yummy! I'm glad to have a great sushi place nearby. The service was great and attentive as well. Great sushi gem in Huntington Beach! Luckily I went with a friend that knew their best rolls, because I almost got the whole menu!!! I went on a Monday night and heard it can get very packed every day and even more on weekends. So you gotta get there early to get a table. Team is very nice on explaining the rolls and sharing the top sellers. I'll definitely come back when I can. All these rolls are wrapped in soy paper (but can ask for seaweed instead) and the truly melt in your mouth. The service is what really made this visit. The staff were quick and checked in often, which was especially helpful after one of my guests accidentally ordered a salad with shellfish despite his allergy. After we fixed the order, the staff came back to our table to warn us that another roll we had ordered had shellfish. (We should have told them about the allergy-- this was entirely our fault). Overall, the staff were on top of things and above and beyond helpful. They kept checking in to make sure everything was alright. The sushi is the only reason I'm giving 4 starts instead of 5. I had the spider hand roll, one of my guests had the dragon roll, and the other had the salmon hibachi. All were good, but there is definitely better sushi out there. I'm a bit torn about this place. I think the portions could be bigger for the price of the rolls. We got the sashimi platter, chirashi, seared tuna, and irassae roll. The irassae roll was ok, not the most inventive, but it was still good. I was disappointed with the chirashi rice, it was pretty mushy for sushi rice. The seared tuna was decent but it was verrry lightly seared. Not what you'd typically see a sear as. Note that a lot of people post about the ghost roll, but that's off menu. I wanted to order it but it wasn't on the menu so we assumed they no longer served it didn't get it, and then found out later they serve it but part of a secret menu. Would I come back again? It's no wonder there is a line out the door every night. It's a great local spot that does a great job on in house and take out service. Comfortable and fun atmosphere.
