    Curry Udon Bowl
    Erica A.

Had great food and great service at Apple Izakaya! Was the perfect food to have on a cold HB day. It had great ambience, being close enough to people watch but also away from all the street noise. As for the food itself, we had Spicy Miso Ramen, Curry Beef Udon, and a Teriyaki chicken bowl. We also had an order of the chicken heart skewer, one skewer had three hearts, not pictured cause we devoured it and also a cucumber salad. Not pictured cause we devoured it. I would def get the chicken hearts again, with the sauces, I don't think we would get the cucumber salad, it was too sweet for our tastes. The curry beef udon bowl is really good if you enjoy the taste of curry, it's a very savory type of bowl. The teriyaki chicken bowl was fine, a little dry, maybe ask for extra sauce on the side. The spicy miso ramen was really good, my fave entree of the three! Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back. I want to try more of the skewers next time, I was recommended the pork belly and spicy chicken skin, which I'm excited to try!

Tried the new ramen spot Appe yesterday (11/16). Located by the old bomb burger at downtown main street. Really good ramen! 30% off yesterday only, to promote the new business. Good customer service and good music played inside. They gave us a complimentary appetizer -- fried edamame (no pic unfortunately). Give it a try! Reasonable prices for downtown, too. We got the tonkatsu ramen and the beef udon curry ramen!

So delicious we forgot to take pictures of the food! We ordered a lot of food and it was very affordable we got the curry udon beef, fried rice, spicy edamame, 3 chicken thighs(favorite!), filet mignon, prime beef, pork belly, and shrimp. The picture menu made it so easy to order. Get the mango green tea you won't regret it! The service is fantastic, the owners also own Mahkin on 3rd and Olive, best sushi you'll ever have.

We tried a few items - cucumber salad, lollipop chicken, filet mignon and eggplant. All delicious and great service by Pam!

I really like the curry because it was full of flavor in each bite was like really I could tell that the people that make it put a lot of work into it. I really recommend the takoyaki because it has a lot of flavor in this squid melt into your mouth. It was also a very crispy like La Style. My favorite was the Enoki bacon because the bacon was super crispy and the mushrooms were super tasty and flavorful. The cream Croquettes were very good and the service along with everything was super well-timed. It's really great to have a yucky Tori place right on Main Street that has some of the great Staples in meat and poultry.

The owners are very nice and accommodating! The ramen broth is amazing! Great flavor and feels hearty! Their Kiddos are also cute and helpful! HB lets keep them here!!!

Came to try Appe because we absolutely love Mahkin and the food was delicious. We tried the Tonkostu and Miso Ramen, which were both phenomenal. The cucumber salad, bacon wrapped enoki, takowasabi, and skewers were also great! If you like sweet teas, you will LOVE the iced mango green tea! Service is always wonderful at these restaurants. We'll be back.

New spot in HB! It's a Japanese Izayaka that offers small tapas plates, meat on skewers and hot ramen noodles. We got the calamari, prime beef, wagyu, pork belly, chicken and scallions, bacon wrapped enoki, miso and tonkatsu ramen. Meats were juicy and the ramen was flavorful with the right amount of umami. Service was nice & friendly. Highly recommend!!!

The recommended headers of food, service and ambience are absolutely three massive reasons why I will be back here and actually might become a regular with time. I moved recently closer to downtown Huntington Beach and it was a cool Sunday evening when I decided that Ramen would hit the spot to reset me for a new week ahead. I did a search in the Apple Maps app and saw this place was only 3/10 of a mile from where I sat on my couch. I grabbed my E bike and venture down town to find this place tucked away just around the corner from Fish Co.. If you are looking for this place, it is across Main Street from Sugarshack and is just tucked inside the alcove that leads you to the parking structure. At any rate, not only was I greeted and met with world class warmth and welcoming by Pam but they allowed me to chain my bike to their fencing that delineates their outside seating area which I will likely not ask of them anymore as the weather gets warmer because this will only lead to a pile of bikes, locked up to their fence. Now onto the food... I have a taste for Tonkatsu Ramen and wanted to give this place a try to see what their iteration of it was all about. Not only was it lights out, but I also experienced something in a Ramen I never had before and that was corn. I typically do not opt for corn in any regard, but not only did a compliment the dish incredibly well, I will be looking for it every time I visit hereafter. I ordered a green tea which was fantastic and there offerings in the appetizer as well as dessert realm seemed very robust and delicious as well. The ambience - I happen to be a big fan of Lofi chill music and it absolutely provided the perfect audio backdrop for what an Izakaya is all about. I cannot say that I am an expert on Izakaya, but would you know that right on their menu? They had an explanation for what the term meant. I love this because it shows their interest in educating their customers on the true experience that they are attempting to replicate right from the streets of Japan. What's really need about this place? Is that the same owners have a Thai and Sushi restaurant literally one block away on third and olive. If you think I'm going to not visit that place think again as if it is anything like what I just experienced at a PPE, it will be lights out and deserving of an amazing review as well. I highly recommend this establishment for anybody in the downtown Huntington Beach area looking for a terrific culinary experience, coupled with the coziness and relaxing atmosphere of Izakaya. ** review written with voice to text so please pardon any misspellings or grammatical errors.

Appe Izakaya in Downtown Huntington Beach right across the street from the Sugar Shack and next to the parking structure, is a total gem! The chicken teriyaki bowl was perfectly flavorful and satisfying, and the eel skewer and tongue skewer were absolute standouts -- tender, expertly grilled, and packed with authentic izakaya flavor. Great food, great vibes, and top-notch quality all around. Can't wait to go back! Also, try their strawberry lemonade, one of the best I've had anywhere!

I have been to Appe Izakaya four times since opening. I would describe the food as Japanese izakaya style with tasty Thai influence. The ambiance is very zen and tasteful. The yakitori is very good. In particular, there are Thai influenced dipping sauces that are very flavorful and unique. My wife loves the filet mignon yakitori! The Japanese curry and the tempura are a few of my favorites. While the tempura is not exactly Japanese style, the batter is very light and airy. The staff are very friendly and courteous. They are also attentive and because the restaurant is cozy it is easy to get their attention if you need anything. I'm looking forward to continuing to go back to explore the menu. I would highly recommend.

We had an order of Uni, a hand roll with Wagyu and Uni, a soft shelled crab appetizer and the Kiwami roll. Everything was so good. They obviously use high quality fish and ingredients. The server was proud that their Uni is Japanese Uni which is of higher quality than many other sources. The employees were very friendly. In fact we came back a week later and had a similar experience. This looks like a go to sushi restaurant for us.

My hope is that management can use this as constructive feedback to fix some obvious quality control and service issues. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing sushi experiences I've had in the past couple of years. For $22 total ($10 for the standard Tuna Roll and $12 for the standard Eel Roll, not a dragon roll which was I think close to $20 or over), the baseline quality and service just weren't there: * Portions & Value: Both rolls were cut into 5 pieces instead of the standard 8. Paying $22 for a grand total of 10 skimpy pieces is a tough sell on value alone, but the assembly made it worse. The rolls were haphazardly made, falling apart on the plate, and stuffed with minimal fish filling. * Freshness: The fish did not taste fresh and had a strange, off flavor to it--possibly an inventory turnover issue. Freshness is everything at a sushi bar, and having to worry about food safety after a meal is never a good sign. * Kitchen Execution: The $12 Eel roll arrived completely dry without any sauce. The server brought over teriyaki sauce when I had 2 pieces left as if they forgot to put it on. So I drenched the sushi in the sauce to hopefully cover the flavor only to realize he gave me teriyaki sauce for a rice bowl instead of standard unagi/eel sauce. * Management Response: When I brought up to the manager that the eel roll really was not good, she walked back to the kitchen, came back, and simply said, I spoke with the chef and he said it was normal. Bottom Line: Errors happen in restaurants, but brushing off customer feedback, using odd sauce substitutions, and serving loose, dry rolls with questionable fish quality shows a serious need for retraining. Hopefully, management takes a closer look at what's coming out of that kitchen. Look elsewhere in OC for sushi

I say that as someone who is not an occasional customer. I come here roughly every other day. I spend hundreds of dollars here in a typical week. I know the menu, order immediately, make virtually no special requests, finish my meal within 30-40 minutes, and routinely tip 20-25%. I am about as low-maintenance and commercially reliable a customer as a restaurant could ask for. Apparently, none of that matters once the number beside your name on the waitlist is "1." The restaurant has counter seating directly in front of the grills--the area where solo diners and couples are commonly seated. When I arrived, there were individual seats available between other parties. I checked in for one and waited approximately 30 minutes. During that wait, I watched those available seats effectively disappear as seating was rearranged to accommodate larger parties. At first, I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt. The manager who normally handles seating was not there, and I assumed they were simply working down the Yelp waitlist in chronological order. Then a party of five that had checked in well after me was seated at a table before I was. At that point, the logic became fairly obvious: rather than seat one person in an available counter seat, they were waiting for a diner in the corner to finish so that I could be placed there instead. When I raised this with Kenny, who identified himself as the person in charge of the shift, his explanation was essentially that he understood I was upset, but that I needed to understand his position: he did not think it was appropriate to seat me between two other parties because there supposedly was not enough space. That explanation did not resolve the issue. It confirmed it. If an available seat is considered usable when it helps accommodate a larger party, but somehow unsuitable when it would allow a solo customer to be seated in a reasonable order, then the operative distinction is not space. It is party size. Restaurants understandably have to maximize seating efficiency. I do not expect a four-top to be sacrificed for one person, nor do I expect special treatment because I am a regular. What I do expect is something much more basic: that a customer not be quietly moved behind people who arrived later simply because the restaurant has decided their party is economically more convenient. There is also something particularly tone-deaf about telling a customer who has rightfully identified an observable disparity in treatment that they need to "understand" management's position. I understood the position perfectly. That was the problem. A loyal customer should not need to arrive with three additional bodies in order for his place in line to retain its meaning. So, for anyone who frequently eats alone: take this experience into account before coming here. You may see open counter seats. You may have checked in before larger parties. You may be a regular. You may be courteous, fast, uncomplicated, and generous with your tips. And you may still discover that, here, one person is treated as less urgent than five. That is a remarkably effective way to make a frequent customer reconsider being one.
