I had had takeout from Ikeda before but had only tried the green beans and eggplant so decided to give dine-in a chance and order more. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of plant-based options on the menu and I'm vegan so the choices were limited. I LOVED the eggplant per usual. It is so tender and flavorful. Truly divine! I also LOVE the green beans which are incredibly flavorful. I used the leftover sauce from the green beans to dip the sushi in and it was excellent. I ordered the vegetable sushi roll in soy paper, as well as the vegan hand rolls. Both were good, but not incredible. The eggplant and green beans were definitely the standouts! I hope they will add additional plant based options in the future! We also had excellent service. The food here is of exceptional quality and is always really delicious. The matcha ice cream is some of the best I've tried. The servers are kind and happy to answer any questions I have about the dishes. I also really like the atmosphere of the restaurant, not to mention it's always kept very clean. So good we came back for seconds. I've been hosting my brother and his fiancé this past week and took them to Ikeda for lunch. They loved the experience so much that they asked to come back for round two before returning to Arizona. We ordered a variety of dishes for the table, starting with appetizers, including edamame and tempura. The tempura dish is stacked with deep fried squash, carrots, shrimp, and broccoli. I stopped in around 2:30PM for a late lunch and only a couple of tables were taken, so it's a good time to avoid the crowd. I ordered the Orange Roll, which is a shrimp tempura roll topped with salmon. Since I got my order to go, the spicy mayo and eel sauce were packed in a small cup. I also got the Cherry Blossom Roll, which was a spicy tuna roll topped with tuna, green onion, and masago. Personally, I loved the Orange Roll the best! Even though they delivered from Huntington Beach all the way to Newport Beach, the food was packaged well and the sushi arrived still cool which was good. The California roll was great and my kids enjoyed it. My husband enjoyed the cherry blossom roll (spicy tuna with raw tuna and masago on top). I liked the Orange Roll which was salmon on top with shrimp tempura, cucumber and avocado inside however it had A TON of cucumber like too much which I picked some out. My favorite roll was the Washington Roll that had the special sauce. It had a lot of onions but they were easy to pick off and I did enjoy some of them. I'm so happy that my usual sushi spot was closed on Sunday afternoon, because it led me to find Ikeda. The lunch specials were a great deal. They came with miso soup which was flavorful and had plenty of tofu pieces, 5 pieces of sushi or 6 pieces of sashimi, and a roll. I recommend choosing the sashimi - the pieces were large and the fish was clean and fresh. The dragon roll (california roll topped with eel) tasted amazing. I also really liked the garfield roll, which was a california roll topped with baked salmon. Lastly, we ordered a surf roll and I loved the seaweed salad on top! My husband said it was like a dessert roll. All the rolls were thick and well portioned. I will definitely come back and recommend to others. Service was friendly and efficient and there was nice ambiance. Came here with the boyfriend craving some good sushi. Foods were very generic here. They had one girl, doing the orders, serving the foods, taking care of all the customers. I was falling asleep waiting for her. Foods is edible, nothing that stood out where I would crave it to go back and experience a 2nd time, place is ok, a bit stale and dated. I ordered a dish that resembled dynamite, with crawfish, forgot the name but it came out cold so they can improve and hire more people. She didn't have time to come back to check on us and did the best she could on a busy Saturday. Will have to cross this place off our list and venture to find a better food experiences. read more

The sushi we tried was good, but something was very wrong with the karaage. It was tiny, dry, and tasteless. If you had blindfolded me, I don't even think I would have guessed it was karaage, or even chicken. My suggestion: get the sushi; avoid the karaage. read more

First time dining here, I liked that they had a smaller menu but a lot of options besides just sushi and rolls. We had a party of 6 so was able to order a variety of dishes to try! We ordered the sashimi salad (not pictured), caterpillar roll, dragon roll, Pepper NY cut steak (not pictured), izakaya style baby back rib appetizer, Washington roll, super volcano roll and an udon with tempura (two shrimps, Japanese yam, carrot) on the side. I thought the seafood was quite fresh and all ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The rolls were very good, one thing I would like to say is they did add a bit too much imitation crab into all the rolls. The steak was good and cooked medium rare which is great but I'm not sure why it was served almost cold? I thought it could have also used a bit more seasoning. The tempura was really good and the batter was seasoned then fried perfectly. I like it when tempura batter is seasoned! Order this. Of everything we ordered, I'd recommend the caterpillar roll, dragon roll, tempura, and volcano roll. I think I would come here again if we were ever in the area.
