The food is good, but the staff needs to be trained. Asked for a Cabernet, (I pointed to it in a menu) brought me Chardonnay. I don't think the server knew what the difference was. Asked for recommendation for sushi roll. I told him I didn't like spicy food and he suggested a spicy sushi roll. My daughter ordered an Arnold Palmer. He said he didn't know how to make it even though we just told him it was half iced tea and half lemonade. He brought only iced tea and about a squirt of lemonade. We've dialed in our preferences... I get Tonkatsu (pork) broth, a heaping tablespoon of garlic, a slight touch of Miso (for saltiness), and a scoop of green onions. Then I get 9 piece Pork. Wife gets Tonkatsu (pork) broth, a heaping tablespoon of garlic, a decent spoonful of Miso (for saltiness), and a touch of mild spice. Then she gets 9 piece Prime Ribeye. So how do you eat this? Everybody does it differently. Here's what I do... Wait for the pot to come to a boil. Put the dense items in the boiling pot first, like the corn, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, and cabbage. Wait a few minutes, then put everything else in, but not the meat. Wait several minutes. Ask for a bowl. Pull all the cooked items out of the pot and put them in the bowl. Use the ladle to put a little bit of hot broth in the bowl. Eat the items with chopsticks and put the bowl to your lips to sip a bit of broth. As needed, cook individual pieces of meat and eat them while you're eating everything else. read more

She didn't give us bowls, a fellow employee noticed and gave them to us. Her personality was cold as ice. I waited over 20 minutes while my veggies got soggy for scallops. I'm sure I waited so long bc they were not scallops. They were chewy, not uniform and fishy. My sister tried one and was disgusted. She wouldn't try another. I regret not taking a pic but I tried to enjoy my visiting sister and our family before confronting the server about the fact it wasn't scallops. Poor service. - Hard to get the server's attention (which should not be since he is 90% trapped in front of you). - He wasn't on top of basic things like making sure the cooktop was hot enough, water refills, and taking an additional order for more appetizers. - Overall, we had to wait until an inappropriate amount of time had passed, flag him down to achieve a basic level of engagement, then wait for him to produce the thing he should have been on top of without us having to be distracted by the whole process. It was for a birthday, and we travelled 60 miles for this choice, and it fell significantly far below our previous experiences here. This place has become a regular date night staple. I'm actually not a sushi person but they have so many good cooked rolls that I'm obsessed with. We went to Shabu on Fire on a Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. The restaurant was fairly full, but still had a few tables, so we were in luck! We were greeted immediately by a friendly guy named Andy and escorted to the sushi bar right next to where they seat the kids/babies with strollers in the back right corner of the room. The menu is huge - so many great choices! We ordered the Black Dragon roll, some assorted sushi, calamari and an Asahi to share. The calamari is served with hot honey (wonderful) and a spicy mayo. It was lightly battered and came quickly to the table. It was great! The sushi is some of the best we have ever tasted. So fresh! The roll was great, too, but we did feel that the crab salad took up a bit too much of the inside. It was still good, though. They brought us free crab rangoon and free hot saki, which was amazing. These people are working hard to be welcoming and friendly. The owner also has Sushi on Fire right down the street, so she knows what she is doing. We did not try the shabu (hot pot) but intend to come back to taste a dish from that part of the menu. Pros: ~reasonably priced, ~friendly staff ~quick service ~freebies! ~great tasting food for the most part (go easier on the crab salad filling) Cons: ~the "baby" section is loud - don't put couples there who don't have children and would prefer a meal without screaming babies five feet away. Having this section is a GREAT idea (I wish more restaurants would corral young kids/babies into one area) but don't put singles/couples there, or at least give them the choice ~the view of the prep area from the sushi bar is not good - cluttered, dirty floors, filthy trash cans, etc. That area needs to be cleaned up. We saw a staff member spit into the trash can back there. ~at the corner of the bar, at the floor, is a very sharp looking metal tile which has peeled away from the footing and sticks out at ankle height - this is a hazard and could hurt someone We know this place is new and still working out the kinks. I am pretty obsessed with Shabu on Fire. My husband and I used to live walking distance from Main Street, and we would eat dinner here probably every other week. Now that we've moved out of HB, I crave it so often that we will drive 30+ minutes just to eat here. We also really love Sushi on Fire, the neighboring sister restaurant. The best thing about Shabu on Fire is that you can order shabu as well as anything from the Sushi on Fire restaurant, and the wait is usually significantly shorter since people don't know about it! (Heads up - the wait can still be long, but it's almost always better than the one at the sushi spot). So we will usually get one or two sushi items to share as well as our own shabu pot. Some sushi favorites are the refreshing roll, scorpion, tuna sashimi, and the 3 companies roll. For shabu - I love the prime beef in the Mama's special broth. The service is consistently great, for an added plus! Pro tip - I recommend getting extra protein and/or your favorite veggie. Don't give 5 stars often but I couldn't think of one negative thing about this place after eating here. The service was quick and good, and their chef even brought out a complimentary appetizer. Both broths were so good the soy and the tonkatsu, the meat was delicious and the veggies too. The whole experience was great! Welcome to the family, Shabu On Fire! Shabu On Fire is located in Downtown Huntington, a few doors down from its sister location, Sushi on Fire. Since it sits at the end of the busy street, there is less walking traffic, making it the perfect restaurant for a socially distanced meal. We were wondering how we would eat shabu outside and they said they thought we were here for sushi. Evidently, Sushi on Fire is so popular that they regularly send people here because they also make sushi at this place. That's kind of an identity crisis but, whatever, we were here for shabu and we're led to a table at the main bar. From there, the experience was great. They're also horrible with tracking the order on Yelp, they never put in when it's done and you're left waiting and waiting and waiting while your pickup time keeps getting extended. Review mainly on service. Went to Shabu On Fire with with my wife to get her a meal immediately after her surgery on a Thursday at 2pm,... there were 2 other customers in the entire restaurant. I sat next to her while she ate and the server told me I had to order something to be able to sit next to her. I explained I already ate and did not want anything. He told me this is the "rule", but he could not provide the "rules", and even though the restaurant was empty. I declined to order. Then he pouted most of the time. When we got the bill he charged her $6 for a soda water from the fountain tap, likely out of spite and to increase his sales on a slow day. Perhaps the tap fountain soda water is expensive. You may want to ask before ordering. We have been here on one other occasion and the male food server was also difficult. Both servers seemed very unhappy as if they didn't want to be there. I wished they weren't there either. We did observe a very nice and accommodating woman and other male servers that seemed to be more positive and less adversarial in other sections during our first visit. The food has been very good on both occasions and came out quickly. If you are looking for good food and care little about employees being nice, this is your place. This pho place was pretty good. When you first go there the servers are very attentive. They refill your water immediately and also refill your rice for free. I got the regular choice beef and it was a good portion. At first I was worried that it would be too small but it ended up being perfect. The servers also add the soup base you want into your soup. They give you lots of fresh veggies to add to your simmering broth, which reaches a nice bubbling boil before your eyes. Each person gets their own individual burner on the countertop right in front of where you are sitting.
