My family has been coming here for a few years now, [[HIGHLIGHT]]this place is normally busy, they do a awesome job at keeping it clean and friendly to everyone that comes in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] the food is always fresh and taste great, their hostess and servers are always polite and friendly. I have yet to try the pho style of food but if you want really good sushi at a decent price please give this place a run. Anytime I think of sushi I come here. It's our to go restaurant.

I have been to this restaurant once before. I came into town from Arizona for Corgi Beach day for the weekend and remembered how amazing this place was. Coming back, the staff/management/ownership is over the top spectacular! The customer service is what will make me come back (not to mention the amazing food!) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, the quality of food matched the environment. Amazing![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We went to Shabu on Fire on a Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. The restaurant was fairly full, but still had a few tables, so we were in luck! We were greeted immediately by a friendly guy named Andy and escorted to the sushi bar right next to where they seat the kids/babies with strollers in the back right corner of the room. The menu is huge - so many great choices! We ordered the Black Dragon roll, some assorted sushi, calamari and an Asahi to share. The calamari is served with hot honey (wonderful) and a spicy mayo. It was lightly battered and came quickly to the table. It was great! The sushi is some of the best we have ever tasted. So fresh! The roll was great, too, but we did feel that the crab salad took up a bit too much of the inside. It was still good, though. They brought us free crab rangoon and free hot saki, which was amazing. These people are working hard to be welcoming and friendly. The owner also has Sushi on Fire right down the street, so she knows what she is doing. We did not try the shabu (hot pot) but intend to come back to taste a dish from that part of the menu. Pros: ~reasonably priced, ~friendly staff ~quick service ~freebies! ~great tasting food for the most part (go easier on the crab salad filling) Cons: ~the "baby" section is loud - don't put couples there who don't have children and would prefer a meal without screaming babies five feet away. Having this section is a GREAT idea (I wish more restaurants would corral young kids/babies into one area) but don't put singles/couples there, or at least give them the choice ~the view of the prep area from the sushi bar is not good - cluttered, dirty floors, filthy trash cans, etc. That area needs to be cleaned up. We saw a staff member spit into the trash can back there. ~at the corner of the bar, at the floor, is a very sharp looking metal tile which has peeled away from the footing and sticks out at ankle height - this is a hazard and could hurt someone We know this place is new and still working out the kinks. We really liked the food and will most definitely be back!

Each person gets their own individual pots and they have a variety of broths to choose from. If you're not too sure which broth you want to commit to, they'll give you a small sample to help you choose! I ended up with the Chinese herbal broth and it went nicely with the goma and ponzu dipping sauces. They have a self-serve bar for sauces, vegetables, raw seafood, and even sushi! The sushi was surprisingly good for an ayce shabu spot and there were 4-5 roll options to choose from. I love that each table has a screen to order drinks, appetizers, meats, and desserts because it made the whole dining experience run so seamlessly (especially for our large group) and we weren't left waiting for any food to come! The only downside is that the premium lunch option doesn't include wagyu, so I'll have to come back for dinner.

This sucked since when cooking the meat, you're forced to eat it with sauce or some type of dipping which I don't usually do. Overall, I'd probably only go here for lunch but besides that, I'd go somewhere else.

Tabu Shabu is set up with bar-style seating, which makes it best for couples or one-on-one dinners, but not great for larger groups. The space is clean, the staff is attentive, and the vibe can swing from chill to rowdy depending on who's in that night. Just a dependable shabu spot. Shabu is a personal experience. For me, broth, service, and overall comfort matter more than subtle differences in meat quality. Shabu Selections: *Miso Broth (no upcharge) - 5/5: Solid and flavorful. The fact that there's no upcharge is refreshing compared to other spots. *Rice (included, unlimited refills) - 5/5: Brown or white. Standard setup, unlimited refills. *Kale Ramen Noodles (+$1) - 5/5: I chose these over udon or shirataki and they're excellent. Worth the extra dollar. Shabu Proteins: You can choose 4oz, 6oz, or 8oz portions, with 3oz add-ons available. Compared to a competitor like Mokoji, value becomes a little murky. Mokoji's size "large" feels like far more slices at 20pcs, but I'd have to do the math to see if there's an actual difference. It definitely felt smaller at Tabu. And I can't honestly say there's a noticeable quality difference in the meat. The veggie plates are standard -- no real differentiator. Unique to Tabu: Tabu offers their porridge finish ($7). They take the remaining broth, add rice, egg, and whatever flavors are left behind, and turn it into a deeply savory bowl. Years ago this used to be complimentary. At $7 now, it's probably worth trying if you've never had it, but it's not an automatic add-on for me. Pro tip: add a dash of truffle oil. They also offer a $6 split charge, allows two people to split one entrée without adding anything extra. In theory it sounds like a budget move; in practice, it didn't feel like strong value. Compared to Mokoji's Shabu for Two starting at $77 (which includes two drinks and ice cream), Tabu's comparable package at $80 feels like a premium without the same extras. Tabu does offer lunch specials, late-night deals, happy hour, brunch, and weekly promos to close the value gap. Service and Stuff: All that said, staff here tend to be personable and attentive -- arguably more so than at Mokoji. The space is comfortable and clean, but the atmosphere depends on the night's crowd. Would I Return Rating? Maybe -- especially to take advantage of a weekly special or if I'm in the mood for the vibe and that porridge finish. If I'm strictly looking for the best value and a filling, straightforward shabu dinner, I might look elsewhere.

The prices are INCREDIBLY reasonable for what you get. You'd honestly get a mid meal at Disneyland for the same price; you get a lot of bucks for your bang here. That said, I wouldn't come expecting the most complex or flavorful broths (favorites are the Tom Yum, Beef, Miso; save urself from the Cajun lol) --they're good, just not the standout feature. TBH the sauces really help make it even better too. I also can't speak too much to the quality of the meats or the rest of the menu from a connoisseur's perspective (I've definitely had worse elsewhere), but everything we ordered felt fresh, enjoyable, and nothing raised any serious concerns. For $23 for the limited all-you-can-eat menu--or around $30-something for the premium option--it's honestly hard to complain. There are definitely higher-end hot pot restaurants with higher quality ingredients, but they also cost significantly more, and I personally found the value here much better. I'd rather enjoy a satisfying all-you-can-eat experience than spend the same amount on a much smaller meal elsewhere. The restaurant is largely self-serve, so don't expect traditional full-service dining. I feel like most Asian restaurants these days are less serviced and it's not a deterrent to me lol. That said, the staff were really nice. We were greeted by a very sweet employee who walked us through using the ordering tablet and even gave us recommendations for building our dipping sauce at the sauce bar, which made the experience easy for first-timers. The space also looks like it could comfortably accommodate larger groups, making it a fun option for celebrations or gatherings. Overall, my partner and I left completely satisfied, and we'd happily come back.

They were able to accommodate our large party. They have 2 separate menus - regular and premium at a different price. Both sides of our table ordered the same 4broths. We tried each other's broths because we couldn't figure why ours was so so salty. We found that all our broths lacked consistency in flavor. Their tonkatsu broth was much saltier than ours. Our sukiyaki was more sweet than theirs, and our chicken was saltier than theirs. We had to cut our chicken broth with water to make it edible. When the server set our broths down, he didn't bother telling us which was which. I couldn't even stop him, he walked away so fast. Anytime I needed something like an extra bowl or scissors, flagging down a server was close to impossible. They all have tunnel vision it seems. I had to walk up to their server station and then they would just point over to a tub of plates and bowls and told me to just grab one. Weird. Our food options were ample and fresh, however the broths being so terrible made for a ruined dinner. Restaurant is still very clean and inviting. Service and food/broth consistency could really use improvement. Maybe they had a recent change of management? Whatever it is, the whole experience was quite different than my previous review. 2 stars for $3.00 beers.

The menu was QR code only, I know this is a downside for some, not so much for me, but worth mentioning. There are 2 restrooms, single user, roomy and very ADA-accessible, the illuminated mirror is a very nice touch. And the food? First point is the price. You cannot beat this price, I believe.
