After craving Korean bbq, me and my boyfriend decided to come to this spot since it is conveniently located near our home. Upon arriving, there were plenty of tables and seating but we were made to wait probably around 5-10 minutes for a table. Once seated, our waitress quickly came over and got our order. The meat quality overall was okay, my favorite by far was the pork belly. I would have given one more star but our burner had issues staying on and warm the entire time we were there. Our waitress was apologetic and we appreciated that but it made the dinner experience longer than it should have taken due to the meats taking longer times to cook and her having to come back to light the flame. Also, I feel like there is poor ventilation and it caused a lot of smoke to build up at certain times. For an update, I went to iron age again and I had bad service this time. The fire kept going out which was not their fault, and the server gave us some busted ass water. the water wasn't refilled often either but the server could have possible gotten busy with tables although there were limited tables. Good, but not as good as I would have expected. First, the restaurant is very, very dark. If you need light, expect to be using your phone's flashlight on a regular basis. First thing we were told was it was Friday and it was only the one menu that was $29. Ok, that was fine. But then the first thing that I ordered was the Iron Age steak and was told they didn't have that. Come on, if you are going to charge top dollar, have everything on the menu, otherwise you are gyping the customers. The meat was good, but I don't think it was true quality meat as there was a lot of gristle that I couldn't chew and ended up splitting it out. The sides on the table were okay, but for a first timer the waiter should have spelled out what the sides were on the table. I had no idea and some things didn't look appetizing. I felt for the price, we didn't really get what I was expecting. I'll likely try another Korean BBQ place before deciding whether Iron Age is a restaurant I want to return to. The seasoned and the top steak were very good and the shrimp were good too. The chicken took forever to cook, though it was good especially the lemon chicken. The beef and pork bulgogi was good but there was a lot of gristle and that didn't make me happy. I did not like the spicy squid, even though I do love squid in general. The shrimp were good, but why have them in the shell and only give us a serving of 5 shrimp when there were three of us at the table, pathetic! I'm torn about this place due to the differences in my experiences on several occasions. First off, is if you're coming here on the weekend, good luck...it's always packed. I love the atmosphere and the energy of this place, but the food quality has gone down and the meat project across the street, has gotten them beat. The last time we came here, our waiter was super nice but since he was so busy with other tables, he burnt some of our food and I ended up cooking some of my own. For all of that, I could've stayed at home and cooked. For the cost, they need to stay on their game, bc there are so many of these joints to chose from. This was a nice little gem in the moddle of Centreville. I've been to other KBBQs in the area and this is probably one of the best! Last time we went it was a little cheaper but the price increased due to thr holiday (MLK Day) so instead of $20 or $25 per person, it was $29.99. The place is pretty cool and had a nice industrial feel with lots of K-pop and Korean music videos going on all over the place- like evrywhere you look which is cool! The menu was pretty extensive and they bring out your meat 3 at a time. All the sauces, kimchi and salad were laid out when we sat. We tried the beef bulgogi, beef sirloin, spicy pork bulgogi, shrimp, spicy squid and pork bulgogi. I think the beef was our favorite. We also tried their japchae which has to be ordered separately. It came in a small bowl but not sire if they refill it since we didn't finishe it. The japchae wasn't really all that good- not bad with the meats but not good by itself. 2.5 Stars update Service has improved a lot (even though they seem annoyed when you ask for stuff). However the food has sadly gone down hill. I came here on a Thursday night around 5PM, so there wasn't much of a crowd. I hadn't been here in quite some time, so I was expecting everything to be pretty much the same. Changes: - No more potato side dish: This was one of my favorite side dishes here; especially compared to other KBBQ places. but now they just don't even offer it - Steamed egg comes in disposable metal tins and cooked on the grill. I don't know if they are doing this to save money or time, but it is terrible. It made the eggs have a metal taste to it. Not sure if the bottom of the tin was scraping off or what, but I was rather disappointed. - Brisket was much fattier and chewier than usual I still enjoy Iron age, but not nearly as much as I used to. Updating my review because over the years, they've definitely worked out their kinks from when they first opened. Service is more attentive now. They have made a few changes to their menu though. Option B used to include Iron Age Steak (my favorite!) but now it's on the more expensive menu.... which is understandable because the quality of that meat is so good. Their steamed eggs don't come in the iron bowls anymore and now come in aluminum bowls that you have to cook on the grill. I don't trust the consistency of the eggs after they're "done" so I don't order it anymore. Otherwise, still a great deal for AYCE kbbq! Keep the rounds of meat comin! read more

What happened, Iron Age? This place has gotten increasingly worse over the years. They were actually one of my favorite spots when they first opened and now...it's one of the places I would NOT recommend to anyone for Korean BBQ. They've maintained the glitz and glam of Iron Age, but it's almost like a Korean BBQ trap now for people who aren't familiar with good Korean BBQ and wouldn't know any better. I came here recently and found out there's no more separation of A & B menus, along with price increase (all one menu and it's $27 per person for dinner). The one item on the menu that I did come here for, spicy pork belly, they got rid of it. My most recent visit is probably going to be my last visit due to all the bad changes they've made over the years regarding their menu and prices. Used to be my go to kbbq place but now not worth coming to anymore. Suprised to find a Friday night with no wait when the wait for this place used to be 1 or 2 hours. Now I know why. The establishment made a lot of changes. First being the decision to combine the A and B options into one $29 dollar menu. I always opt for the more expensive one, but doing this takes away flexibility for others in regard to affordability. They also now charge 20% gratuity for parties of FOUR or more. I've never seen that before anywhere. They're so desperate to overcompensate from their previous poor service that lead to poor tips that now they force you to pay extra if you decide to eat here with more than just 3 people. Enforcing 90 minute rule. That would be fine for me if had our waitress not told us we had 20 minutes left when we knew what time we had arrived and been seated and knew we should've had at least 30 minutes since we pulled up an hour ago. Not only did she tell us "you have about 20 minutes" when we should've had more time. She followed that up with saying "also I don't think you'll have time for the brisket... unless I cook it like this". The brisket we ordered 10 minutes ago that she just brought to our table. If you are going to tell us our time left, how are you also going to abruptly tell us "also these are your last meats", without warning? I was very aware of the time limit but expected to be told "by the way you have this amount of time left, what meats would you like next?" Not "20 minutes also you're done". For most of the time my boyfriend was made and asked to cook the meats, which she had burned 70% of the time. She only allowed us to get another meat because my boyfriend pointed out she said "20 minutes" which gave us time for another meat. Has she not allowed us to get the final meat I was ready to complain about everything to a manager. Besides that, she was attentive and communicative in regards to what she was doing. But not in regards to the time left and last meats. For food, the former more expensive meats were disappointing. Pork belly and iron age steak were lower quality. I liked the brisket, Hawaiian bulgogi went down in quality. Spicy pirk bulgogi was okay. Skimpy on the steamed egg now. Tldr: new 20% gratuity for 4 or more, incorrectly timed enforced 90 minutes rule with no warning, no wait anymore due to less patronage, quality of meats were average or poor, meat burned. read more

It's a very nice place and concept but the service and food quality are extremely bad. They will not let you cook your own food and will quickly cook your food. I have been coming here on a regular basis and have determined that this spot still deserves 4 stars. The downsides are the logistics parts. It has no room for waiting so if you're waiting, it's basically waiting outside or at Pikes kitchen. The place is quite smaller than the other locations that I have been to in the DMV. It has the tightest space so your are quite close to everyone. It is hard to maneuver around the place. However, this all actually helps them. With less space to wander around, they are able to see people who need service more such as checking on the meat or for refills. The service here has been more attentive than their other locations. They regularly swing around and at higher frequencies. Don't know if you are into that type of service, but that would be the upper hand compared to the other branches. As for the meat, it's roughly the same. It is still one of the better options than the other Kbbq mainly because they marinate the sauce with the meat. Other places seem to just throw the sauce on it and it gets cooked off. Parking here is pretty bad and it's tight. There's parking in the back side, but it's a bit inconvenient. Still better than fighting for the tiny spaces in the front though. I'm not saying this place is one of the best options for kbbq. What I'm saying is that it is a decent option and a better option compared to the other ones in the area. If you're in the area and you are craving kbbq, you really can't go wrong with this place unless you come at noon on a Saturday and the wait time is 2 hours. The first few times I came here I was pleased but not super impressed. However, I can't stop thinking about how delicious the meat was on my last visit - totally worth the price of the fancy all-you-can-eat menu. The steak is where it's at. Splurge and get the slightly more expensive menu to get this steak as an option. Skip the shrimp though, the small portion wasn't worth taking up space in my valuable ayce queue. The interior is dark with an industrial feel, playing to 'Iron' in the name, and there are projectors playing k-pop videos all around. An all you can eat Korean barbecue place! Some tables were there for over an hour, so on a busy afternoon you will need to wait for tables. The selection comes in a few different tiers I found that the lowest tier had the things I liked such as spicy pork belly. Of course along with Korean tradition bunches of little plates come, those included a potato salad, Dikon radish salad, kimchi, pickles, and bean paste. Delicious and just what I want when I am craving KBBQ. The meat is always flavorful and fresh, the service is very attentive and the atmosphere is vibey. I wish the music was a little quieter, but it creates a fun environment. The mood is always intimate and this is a great place for date night or with friends. I think this place has really gone down hill. It used to be so busy during lunch, but coming here on a Saturday around 1pm, place was pretty empty. The meat quality here is not good, I guess that's what you get for all you can eat. You can tell as some of the meat is beat with a mallet. The pork belly didn't have any good taste, at honey pig; you can eat the pork belly by itself and it tastes good without the sauce. The steam egg is such a disappointment, they give you the egg in a tiny tin foil bowl, u put it on the grill, and cook it yourself. If you respect yourself and actually like kbbq, please do not go here. Food: Brisket was tough and chewy, almost like chewing on leather. Pork belly was dry and tough, similar to chewing on a towel. Steamed egg had the consistency of soft tofu and was served in foil instead of the traditional clay pot. The salad and kimchi is probably the best thing on their menu. Service: Restaurant was understaffed and service was decent. Server insisted he cooked but forgot about our food a couple times so it got burnt. I feel bad for the people that work here, they deserve better... Misc: Our grill was super burnt and effected the taste of all our food so even the properly cooked food tasted like charcoal and carcinogens. Not too shabby! This is definitely my go to kbbq in the Centreville area. It's dangerous living so close to an ayce kbbq place like this! The service has been excellent each time I've been there (although I have avoided weekend night crowds). My favorites are the beef brisket, garlic pork belly, Iron Age beef steak and octopus (just don't let it overcook). If you know me, you know that I love Korean Barbeque! I will literally drive all the way from VB to Northern Virginia to get some good kbbq. Iron Age was the first kbbq restaurant I tried, and eating there for the first time felt like a religious experience. Some of their selling points are their wide range of side dishes, diverse menu, dessert options, nice atmosphere, and THEIR SAUCES. This is the reason why I would definitely suggest Iron Age to any first time Korean BBQ-er. Their sauce collection is unmatched by similar restaurants like Honey Pig and Oegadgib. However, I love Oegadgib is still my number one because it's honestly easier to have a conversation there than at Iron Age which has music videos paying 24/7. We asked one server to change the grill for us because we had already grilled 5 different type of meats and it was already burned (they used to change the grill for you after you grilled 2-3 meats). I understand this is one of hard times during Covid. However, the amount of food and option presented compared to the price is ridiculous. When we called before we headed over to the place, they told us the waiting time is 10-15 minutes and that we cannot put our name on the line unless we were physically there. After 5 minute drive to the place, they told us the waiting time is now 45 minutes to an hour. Such a large difference in only 5 minutes. We put our name in line anyways and waited. An hour later, they still told us to wait 15-20 minutes more. I'm not sure if it's their strategy to hold onto customers by initially underestimating their waiting time. The initial amount of side dishes was way too little. There was only a salad and three sides that had like five vegetable pieces in each. I could order other side dishes from the menu but the place didn't have much option (as shown in photo). One of the side dishes is steamed egg, and this was also disappointing. Other kbbq offers steamed egg in a ceremic pot, fully cooked before served. What I got at Iron Age was a small bowl with raw egg mixture inside that I had to cook myself next to the meat. The bowl was covered with aluminum foil so I couldn't even tell when the egg was cooked until I opened it up. The amount of egg in each bowl was around 2 small eggs, which was barely anything for a large group. And we were hesitant to order more because it took 1/4 of the space on the grill. In regards of convenience, I had to cook and cut the meat myself when some of other kbbq places cook and serve them for you. Just eating meat (because barely any sides given) and cooking it myself costed me around 30 dollars. I would rather go to other nearby kbbq place or buy the meat at Lotte and eat at home. read more

This is a good Korean BBQ place! I rate this kind of restaurant based on atmosphere, banchans, and meat. Iron Age is cool looking and fun to be in. The place is appropriately decorated heavily with metal, checking the "Iron" box. Big screen televisions play the hippest K-Pop loudly, keeping you entertained, awake and alert instead of slumping into a food coma.
