We arrived on time for our appt with Ms. Meri and waited 25 minutes for our cut-- which is a really long time for a toddler. She was very nice but clearly had no idea how to cut curly hair. My son has these beautiful, tight golden curls and she began by spraying them down with water. I was immediately skeptical and expressed concern that they would now be too short but she assured me everything was fine. Proceeded to take the same length off the top as well as the sides and the back. His hair wasn't even dry by the end of the blow dry and was so short on the sides and back that I could see his scalp. The whole cut didn't even take more than 5 minutes. I was close to crying. We were so looking forward to his first haircut being a fun experience but instead it was stressful and my kid left with a bad haircut for the summer. EDIT: The owner wasn't there so he has no idea what happened. We were not offered another look from a different stylist as the owner stated in his reply. And even if we were-- what could another stylist do? The hair was already gone. I expressed many times during the cut that spraying down his curls may make the cut too short and was assured many times it wouldn't be a problem once it dried. However, getting into the city for a cut & color with 2 small kids in tow was becoming impossible. I was overwhelmed by all the salon options in Naperville though. I happened to be driving through the strip mall where the Salon Avenue suites are located and went in out of curiousity. I have never seen a set up like Salon Avenue before - each suite is an independently run business with it's own hours, stylist, etc. I stopped to pick up a brochure from the Curls & Swirls suite and Gina greeted me very warmly. I explained that I was new to the area and looking for a new stylist. After chatting for a few minutes I made my first appointment with her partner Melissa. I have seen Melissa now for 6 months. She has cut my hair (a completely new style for me) about 10 times and colored it twice and every time I have been absolutely thrilled with the results. The prices are VERY reasonable (especially compared to Chicago) and the service is top notch. There is nothing pretentious about this place, it is relaxed and comfortable. The hours are fantastic too which is great for a Mom like me (where else can you get a haircut & color on a Sunday afternoon??) I am really, really happy that I found this salon.
