Despite the tight shared parking, this place deserves a try if you want a delicious, affordable bahn mi sandwich. For $11 (8-28-26) you get a decent sized crispy sandwich. We had the lemongrass pork and spec bahn mi. Bot had adequate amounts of veggies and cilantro. We liked that the jalapeños were served on the side. Both sandwiches were tasty, and the special had a very rich patê on the bottom. The brown coffee was very smooth and came in a cool takeout cup with a cap for the sipping hole. I'm not usually someone who writes reviews, but after trying Iron Pan today and having a long conversation with the owners, I felt like I really wanted to leave one for these genuinely nice people. First, the food. There were three of us, and we ordered a Meatball Pan, Beef Stew, and Lemongrass BBQ Pork Banh Mi to share. The bread came out hot and crispy, which is exactly how I like my banh mi. Everything we ordered was delicious. I saw another review saying the beef stew was bland and had no flavor, so I was actually curious to try it for myself. All three of us thought it was really flavorful and well seasoned. Maybe everyone's taste is different, but we genuinely enjoyed it. And the Lemongrass BBQ Pork Banh Mi... WOW. The marinade on the pork was amazing. We literally looked at each other after the first bite like, "wow." They use pork belly, so the meat stays juicy instead of being dry inside the bread. Definitely one of our favorites. Second, I think the prices are very reasonable, especially for Honolulu. I honestly don't know many places anymore where you can get a freshly made banh mi for around $11. While talking with the owners, they mentioned that some people have been disappointed because they don't offer chicken or tofu options. This is just my personal opinion, but as customers, we get to choose which restaurants and dishes we want to eat. I think restaurants should also be allowed to choose what they want to specialize in and put on their own menu. Not every restaurant has to offer everything for everyone. Lastly, please SUPPORT LOCAL. Iron Pan is still a very new small business, and after hearing about some of the really harsh reviews they've received so early on, I can understand why it's so difficult for small businesses to survive on Oahu. Of course, constructive criticism is completely fair, and everyone is entitled to their own experience. But there are real people and families behind these small businesses who are working incredibly hard every day. We had a great meal, enjoyed talking with the owners, and left happy. Most people seem to be ordering the banh mi. We ordered the house special beef stew ($19.95) and the house special banh mi ($11 - a really good price!). The beef stew had lots of tender chunks of meat in a tasty sauce. It's served with their warm bread. The bread is so good - fluffy soft inside and crusty, crunchy outside. You may want to buy another one to mop up all the sauce. The bread also made the sandwich a real winner. I did find this sandwich was a bit messy. I've never tried this style at all but brings memories of my momma when she would cook her eggs sunny side up with some cold cuts and eat them with white bread or french bread. Iron Pan, I'm a fan! This place is really good! It was a summer Saturday night and I had a spectacular sizzling skillet. It had lemongrass pork, eggs, corn, and a few other things. The lemongrass seasoning on the pork was perfect! Just the right blend of flavors. I also had the beef stew special, which was also delicious! The beef stew comes in a broth with lots of tender meat. Both items came with a warm baguette that was nicely crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I also enjoyed a coffee so I would be able to stay up all night watching Netflix with my energetic companion. I love and appreciate that Iron Pan opens so early! I visited close to 8AM this morning. I wondered if Iron Pan would have their food offerings ready, and they did! Iron Pan is located next to Lunar Tea on King Street. The restaurant is much larger inside than it appears externally. Plenty of seating for dine-in guests. Free parking at the lot. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our strong yet sweet "brown coffee," which is their coffee with condensed milk. We shared a lemongrass bbq pork Banh mi. The bread was crispy and light. "Another new kid on the block" "Iron Pan" is the newest Vietnamese type cafe that focuses on a limited but interesting number of selections. They focus on three areas: 1) sizzling skillet specialties 2) coffee & refreshing beverage variations 3) Banh Mi sandwiches Because I decided to do take out I focused on the Banh Mi options. I bought the meatball banh mi and the House Special Banh Mi. Both Banh Mi offerings were quite tasty although the bread was not quite as crusty as I would have liked. (More my preference) The pickled veggies tasted great the meats went well in the sandwiches although some small parts were a little tough. Taken as a whole, they were enjoyable. I am definitely going to go back for the skillets and will do so when I have time to do a sit down with one of their beverage selections. Upon arrival, I noticed there was a lot of parking (first hour free) and their AI generated photos in their windows. They have an opening promotion of a free soft drink with an order of their pans. It was empty and dead when we came in but soon all tables were filled! We ordered a classic pan, deluxe pan, ube foam brown coffee, and Vietnamese coffee. The pans came with a side salad that looked so minimal. Both pans had pâté, mayo, Vietnamese meat loaf or cha, eggs, and marinated meat that was so chewy and not so tender. Big difference is that the deluxe pan came with really good Vietnamese meat balls and more eggs. The sauce on the pan was delicious! Sweet, tangy, peppery, and the right amount of saltiness. The meal also included baguette that was crunchy and crispy outside and fluffy inside. PERFECT! My Vietnamese coffee expert said the coffee was underwhelming. The aroma of the coffee creamer they use overpowers the true flavor of rich Vietnamese coffee. My coffee--ube foam brown coffee--was sweet! I unfortunately am nitpicky so I also wanted to share about tray placement and offer an improvement. When the tray was placed in front of me, I noticed the handle would stab my sternum every time I leaned in. And the salad looks so lonely and little off tray. Searching for a place to eat for Friday night dinner and found Iron Pan. Limited menu, but hubby loves Vietnamese beef stew, so was easy to convince him to try it out. I ordered the pork bahn mi. Server confirmed it very clearly to me, so I know it wasn't because she didn't hear me. My sandwich came fully loaded with cilantro. Easy fix. I threw them all into hubby's stew. Another reason for the loss of star; no healthier offers for bahn mi like chicken or tofu. Choices were pork, meatballs, cold cuts, and beef. So this is a suggestion and not so much a criticism. Offer chicken instead of the beef or meatball. At the very least, offer a tofu protein for vegetarians. I realize the restaurant's name is Iron PAN, so they specialize in the "pan" dishes. I've been going to Iron Pan and supporting them since they first opened. They have a young and friendly staff, and I love seeing a small, family-owned business with so much passion for what they do. Nice job, guys! I've tried almost everything on their menu, and my top 3 favorites are: The HouseSpecial Beef Stew is rich, aromatic, and full of flavor, with plenty of meat. Definitely makes my money worth it! The Bbq pork banhmi is so flavorful, with a strong savory lemongrass flavor. I like it. And the HouseSpecial banhmi is another favorite of mine. I can eat it either cold or warm, and it's delicious both ways. I'll always support small local businesses, especially when I can see how much effort and passion they put into what they do. We got our breakfast here on a Tuesday at around 9:00. The restaurant is located in Old Stadium Square so plenty of parkings. Place was empty at the time, the store is clean and I think they got about 10 tables? We ordered a signature meatball pan ~$21ish, a beef stew ~$19 and an ube coconut coffee ~$8.5. For this economy especially in Hawaii and the amount of food, price is reasonable. Food came out pretty fast, about 10 mins after ordering. The staffs or maybe owners seem nice. Food was good and the Vietnamese sizzling pan (banh mi chao) is something relatively new here in Hawaii, so hopefully more people know and support them. The beef stew however is on a more comfort taste than strong bold flavor. Taking over the previous Ala Hawaii Kitchen location, this restaurant is a cozy hole in the wall with a large menu offering a variety of pans, sandwich specialties, coffees, and refreshers. Parking outside in the lot is free for the first hour. Took my dad here for lunch on Father's Day and got the Lemongrass BBQ Pork Pan with a Blue Lagoon Refresher. The waitress provided a light salad as an appetizer before bringing out the pan in about 5 minutes. The Banh Mi bread was extra crispy and the pan was warm and sizzling.
