I guess they are know for their pop tarts, but I was not impressed with the $8.95 apple pop tart. It was mostly thick crust and I would be surprised if a half apple was even used. Most bites were just crust no apples. Very disappointing. Unlike the pop tart the food was delicious. I really enjoyed the French toast and fried chicken. My husbands sausage patties were tasty and the side of sausage gravy he order had great flavor. The service was mediocre, but we got our food fast and the orange juice was fresh squeezed. We tried this breakfast/ brunch restaurant on a Sunday and as usual, it is always busy since the breakfast cuisine here is very good. We had to make a reservation in advance on Open Table for the four of us. I had the California Omelet and it was excellent. Home fries are very good too. Rise up coffee is excellent and the coffee here is way above average compared to most breakfast/ brunch venues. The pop tarts are unbelievable! The only problem here is the service. That's why we gave it a three. We waited about 15 minutes just for our coffees. Not good. Then it was about 25 minutes for the food to arrive. In all fairness to the servers , they were working hard and the restaurant is just short of staff. We have been to the other Iron Roosters before the pandemic and the service was excellent. It's unfortunate but they are going to lose customers due to this problem. I think the Owners/ Management need to step it up with the service. read more

When you hear so many good reviews about a restaurant, you get so excited to try it out. Unfortunately, this Iron Rooster location didn't live up to my expectations. For starters, they didn't change much about this location from the time it was a Joe's Crab Shake. They got new table and seats and painted but that's about it. Some of the decor from Joe's is still there. It wasn't very crowded but service was so slow. It took a while for food to come out. Even our queso appetizer took a while to come out. The queso was pretty good. It was the best food of the experience. I got the waffle burger, which is supposed to be a signature item but I wasn't impressed. The burger wasn't very flavorful and it made the waffle soggy. It was a sloppy mess to eat. It was falling apart as I ate. Amazing food, nice waitstaff, cool atmosphere. This is what describes my experience when I visit Iron Rooster. Both the Cockeysville and Canton locations are awesome, although the Cockeysville location is less crowded. I have never been here and had a bad experience. I've been a number of times this year alone. The first being at the very top of the year, pre-Covid. It was a nice chill Sunday afternoon. I met up with my cousin and friend at the Canton location and had a great time! My cousin had the French toast, eggs, bacon, and home potatoes. Our friend has the crab Benedict, side salad and bacon. I had a half waffle, eggs, and scrapple. Everything was DELICIOUS! So, so good! The second time I treated myself at the Cockeysville location. I had the same meal I had at Canton and it was delicious as usual. The third time was in September. It was on a Friday and I took the opportunity to have a late afternoon breakfast. They are open later on the weekends, so that was a plus. This time, I switched it up and tried the chicken and waffles with the country gravy and fried potatoes. The chicken is boneless, fried chicken tenderloins, which made it so easy to eat! The waffle was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The potatoes, however, weren't my favorite. They were like little hard potato disks. If you're not a fan of scalloped potatoes, you probably won't like these. Condiments couldn't help it much. I just think it was a bad batch because I've had them before and they were good. The syrup and gravy and everything else just paired so well together, though! I definitely enjoyed it. The forth time came late morning very recently in October. I ate outside and didn't regret it! The weather was pretty and there was a slight autumn chill that made the experience even better. I had a taste for pancakes, eggs, and scrapple. My goodness, they did not disappoint! The cinnamon butter was soooo good on my pancakes! Scrapple was perfectly crispy and the eggs were good and fresh. The one and only downside was the pricing of the orange juice. They serve all the drinks in small-sized plastic cups because of Covid. But I asked for "a nice, big glass of Orange juice" and unfortunately it wasn't worth the $4.50 I paid for it. Just imagine if I bought three of those, it would've been about the same price of the meal itself. But that wasn't bad enough to lower my 5 star rating. I love Iron Rooster when I need a quiet place to chill and decompress from the day. Please make a visit to IR when you get a chance. Great for small groups, a date, or a solo meal. read more

Would've been one star after waiting ~5 minutes at bar while the bartender served others, wiped glasses, refilled pitchers of water with no one waiting for them, and who said nothing after I said hello. Pros: Waiter at the table was nice, hosts were friendly, and the portions of food are large for brunch. The pop tart that is apparently the most popular item on the menu was loaded with sugar so you'll buzz right through brunch or breakfast or if you have it as dessert after dinner. Parking is free because it's in a shopping center. Cons: Bloody Mary drinks were pretty weak and not much of a Bloody flavor. Aforementioned bar staff and experience means I'm not going back. Overall: if you're short staffed, I'm the most patient person. When you act as if I'm invisible, I can't help but question why but only long enough to know I won't return. This place has the most interesting breakfast I have ever had. I have never been, nor heard of Iron Rooster and now I'm glad I have. The breakfast here is on the pricey side but you get what you pay for in food and flavor. Lately I have been trying different dishes from around the country and I had to try their Breakfast Quesadilla. I am not a fan of anyone's breakfast burrito and I expected this dish to be in the same category and boy was I wrong. The breakfast quesadilla was amazing! This dish is full of flavor with the right amount of cheese and so much more. I didn't think that I would be able to taste all the ingredients but I did and the red peppers mixed with the pico de gallo along with the eggs and bacon just closed the deal on my taste buds. The Chipotle sauce on the side is great on the home fries or on the quesadilla. The home fries tasted like they came from home so I was very pleased with that. I've only been to this Iron Rooster twice, but both times my visit was a little less than satisfactory. I will start off by saying the service is wonderful and each host/server is very kind. Last year, I went for the breakfast nachos and while it was a heaping pile of breakfast goodness, the main ingredient - the crumbled sausage - was just not very tasty to me, and sort of had a gritty earthy flavor to it ?? So that unfortunately spoiled the whole meal to me. Just the other week when I went, we had a large party and ordered three Roos-tarts for the table and those ARE very sweet and delicious. Good flaky crust and nice strong flavors. We had the brown sugar cinnamon, apple pie, and Oreo flavors. However, for my own dish, I order the BLT & egg, which was the driest sandwich I've ever had in my life lol. The bacon was good, but the brioche bread was cut so thick and soooo toasted that there was no moisture left, and the fried green tomatoes were, well, fried.. so that means very low moisture and very dry as well. On top of the that there was the tiniest little smear of some type of aoli sauce which you couldn't even taste since it was just swallowed by all the other dry ingredients. I recently visited the Iron Rooster for the first time, on a late Sunday Morning. There was only about a fifteen minute wait, which was surprising to me with all of the people who have recommended we try it. We were seated at a booth in the back of the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was how loud it was inside. The upper part of the dining area is pretty open, so I'm guessing that's why the noise level was this way. The next thing I noticed was that the area surrounding our booth (and the booth/table itself) was kind of dirty and sticky looking. We were brought our menus and ordered our drinks. My daughter got a fresh squeezed orange juice, which was very good. The menu was quite a bit smaller than I had expected, and I was surprised at the prices. But then I figured for the prices listed, the food would be good. I wasn't exactly correct. My daughter ordered the face pancake from the kid's menu. It came out about 7-8 minutes before everyone else's food. It was presented nicely on the plate and looked very fresh. When the rest of our food arrived, I was disappointed. I ordered the breakfast combo, with scrambled eggs and a piece of French toast, and I added an order of home fries. I could tell that the finished plate had more than likely sat under a warmer...the plate itself was hot, but the eggs were dried out on top, but barely warm underneath. Same for the potatoes...and I couldn't see any black pepper on them, but that's all I could taste on them! So much so that it was too spicy (?) to eat. I had chosen sausage patties with my meal, it came with 2. They had decent flavor but were also dried out and chewy. The last thing I tried was the French toast. I have to say, I was impressed with it, it was cooked perfectly, and the flavor was awesome! I wished I had gotten a full order of that instead of the breakfast combo. We were given a small dispenser of syrup, but the metal spout kept coming out of the bottle when tipped, and it was so sticky. We had to hold the metal part in the bottle when we tipped it-very gross. Then to top everything off, of course my daughter asked to go to the rest room. I took her to the lady's room. Again, I was surprised by how dirty (and smelly) it was! I understand that people can be gross when using a public rest room, but that doesn't excuse the nastiness I saw while in there. I always wonder what the kitchen and food prep area looks like if the rest of the restaurant is that dirty for customers to see. Going to the Iron Rooster was an out of the way drive for us, so I doubt I would go back there. For the price that is charged for the quality of food and atmosphere of the dining area, it's not worth it at all to me. The reason I did 2 stars was only because of the French toast, it definitely was amazing. My husband and I came here for our anniversary. I had heard good things about the IR and I have to say this place was everything I had heard from great customer service to tasty food. We started with the Buffalo Bites which is boneless chicken. They had just the right amount crisp with the perfect amount of buffalo sauciness. The ranch dressing just further enhanced these bites. I do wish they had a side of celery sticks with them and perhaps they could consider that for the future. For my entree I had Cakes on Cakes. This is a delectable crab cake stacked on top of a fried green tomatoes and a silver dollar pancakes with a pico salsa. It also comes with grilled asparagus . I ordered the Crab Hash which came in a bowl with crab meat, home fries, bacon, two poached eggs, asparagus, roasted red peppers, chipotle hollandaise, and old bay seasoning. It was definitely a generous portion and I enjoyed all the flavors. I could definitely taste a hint of the old bay which was not overpowering. I thought it was great with the potatoes. Due to Valentine's Day our wait was a little longer than usual but it was truly worth the wait. When your server makes a recommendation, you know your meal is going to be bomb!
