We ordered the brick supreme and fresco sub and they were amazing. The bread was delicious, the mozzarella was so fresh and the brick sub was stacked with meat. The basil and arugula mixed with the roasted peppers on the fresco was to die for. The subs were gigantic. We inhaled our sandwiches. Definitely worth stopping by. Can't wait to try more. read more

Italian delis are one of the culinary gifts of the Gods. Since it is Italian, I guess we will say our thanks to Jupiter and company (the Gods of Roman mythology) for the wonders that can be found at Italian delis. The two subs that you cannot go wrong with are "the Sopranos" and "the All Italian." Both of these subs have my favorite Italian cold cut, soppressatta. This is an Italian salami cured in wine and it is by far my favorite choice in an Italian deli. I would definitely recommend a visit here. read more

I really tried to like this place but this is the second time that I called in an order for sandwiches and when I got there they told me no one called in an order. They were very short with me and never admitted to their mistake when the man I was talking to on the phone was the same man that was short with me at the store (very distinct accent). Chicken Francais, Chicken Marsala, meatballs, sausage and peppers, rice balls, stuffed shells, eggplant rolatini, and several other pans. I wanted it hot at 4:30....,, IT WAS PERFECT!!!!!!!! Ok last chance for this place, ugh too much money for mediocre to poor food. I ordered the fresh mozz with peppers and was so excited to have it as the bread is usually yummy, we drove tops tens mins down the road to eat by the water, the sandwich was SWIMMING in balsamic vinegar it was coming out of the wax paper as I opened it and the entire sandwich was so soaked it was inedible it was falling apart you can see the brown soaked all the way through both the top and bottom of the bread..I mean come on you make sandwiches for a living you cant put a small amount so it doesn't ruin the sandwich?!?!? Disgusted!! We also got chicken wings, they were rubbery and were thrown out as well, WAY too much money wasted at this place and what a shame because they have great bread but will spend my money at a place that cares about ensuring its customers have a good experience. Here is an honest review from a longtime customer and those of you who know the place will agree: Claudio...hands down...offers the absolute best of the best, in a place anyone would be lucky to have near theit home or work. This is an authentic gourmet joint straight outta Brooklyn. He offers the absolute highest quality in everything he makes. The breads are enough to make you cry and as a bonus, Claudio is an OCD, germaphobic clean freak. There is no place that handles your food better or respects you more. This level of quality costs money to produce. if you want fast on your lunch break, that's understandable and you should drive through Burger King. They were super friendly! Out of bread when we went but we arrived towards the end of the day (and out of bread is a good sign anyway). We got eggplant rollatini and a large arancini (they cut it in half and put marinara and mozzarella over the top). They were both awesome. The marinara sauce is excellent! read more

Best spot in NJ for italian specialties, by far. While they may not have the largest selection, everything they do have they make better than anyone else. That's probably the reason why their pizza is better than Denino's and the fresh mozz is better than Joe Leone's. They've also got a great selection of tomatoes, pasta, homemade sauces, chicken burgers, and anything pork. Great staff and great owner, I always feel welcome when I go. Not sure about the negative review, that person may have caught them on a bad day. I've never heard them be rude, let alone refuse to make a minor change to a sandwich, and I'm there a few times a month. The sandwiches are definitely not premade, it kind of sounds like the bad reviewer may have been having a bad day or may be unfamiliar with a good Italian deli. This place is so inefficient. Service is super slow and will take up half your lunch break. If you want a hot sandwich they are already pre-made and then microwaved. I decided to give them another shot today. Had a chicken parm sub and asked for it with light sauce. The guy working there told me they only make it one way. Umm ok I guess. Easily the best Italian deli in the area. The bread and a lot of the unprepared food comes from markets in brooklyn. They take an authentic, family style approach. The sandwiches always have a healthy amount of ingredients and all of the prepared food on display is excellent. My family often will get a smorgasbord of food for appetizer to entertain guests. I've only ever tried their subs, but I think they are delicious! My favorite is the fresco sub, with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, tomato and basil. One complaint I have is that they do not always have wheat bread available (their wheat bread is very good). Also, sometimes when trying to order just a salad they don't have any available either...just seems weird they wouldn't have lettuce in constant stock. Usually the food is great but what happened when i went a few weeks ago is unacceptable! Walked in and had to wait because it was a busy Saturday afternoon when this man walked in( he was obviously a regular) and cut in front of me! When i mentioned i was next i was told to "relax" someone would wait on me and they proceeded to wait on him first! i ordered the eggplant with fresh mozzarella and arugula and i got 1 layer of eggplant and barely any cheese and was charged $18! Customers are treated very poorly. The staff acts as if they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. They seem to hate their jobs, but one insists on singing aloud incessantly in an apparent effort to appear happy. Their bread is delicious and the pizza is great (if they will do you a favor and make one for you). They focus on the bigger money items. Breaded and fried eggplant tastes like cardboard. We have been going to Fortunato's for about 10 years. Claudio and Dominick are great and so is the rest of the staff. The food is excellent - so good that our neighbors in NYC ask us to pick up stuff for them whenever we offer.
