Isaan Der, one of the BEST Thai restaurants in the GTA, just opened their newest location in Toronto's Chinatown. Of course, I had to visit! The front of the restaurant, although neat and clean, kinda blends in to the surrounding area - nothing too fancy. Entering from the sidewalk, the look and feel gets more sophisticated. Passing through a short, curved hallway, leads you to the dining room, and WOW!!! This place is GORGEOUS!!! The decor is beautifully colourful, with intimate lighting, and a warm ambiance that invites you in. It is so well done! Our fantastic meal, curated by the amazing Chef Ko, included · Mhok Nor Mai Bamboo shoots with pork belly in banana leaves · Khao Pad Tom Yum Soft Shell Crab Crab fried, rice topped with shrimp · Tom Zaap Leng Pork ribs in soup, served in a hot pot · Gai Tod Der Isaan style fried chicken, and sticky rice. · Isaan Style Kanom Jeen Thai vermicelli with spicy curries and vegetables · Tum Taang Isaan cucumber salad · Yaang Platter Moo ping, wings, tiger shrimp, chicken liver, squid, Khao Jee · Pla Piing Grilled European sea bass The food was absolutely delicious, and was followed by a couple of simple and very tasty desserts. I have now been to every location of Isaan Der and it just gets better and better! Congratulations to Chef Ko, and a huge thank you for another wonderful evening! I will most definitely be back!

Isaan Der is an iconic Thai restaurant. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-13. This is their newest location (with 80 seats). Their Queen St E location (with 50 seats) has been moved to this location; the old location is now closed. This location is now their flagship location, with a newly expanded menu. Their kitchen is twice the size! The menu is also greatly expanded, with many new items! We ordered the following: 1. Thai Iced Tea ($7). 2. Thai Green Tea ($7). 3. Thong Pong Grob 6 pcs ($12). 4. Golden Bag 5 pcs ($16). 5. Pad See Ew ($22). 6. Mango Coconut Sticky Rice ($15). The customer service was excellent. As usual, the food presentation was good and the taste, excellent! The Mango Coconut Sticky Rice was in the shape of a heart, which was appropriate, since we were there on Valentine's Day. The interior was tastefully decorated with Thai items, including that basement washroom area. There was plenty of indoor seating. There is one TV screen if you want to watch it but most people ignored it. We managed to meet the owner there, which is always a pleasure. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-openbutton. There are separate male/female washrooms downstairs, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-024

Finally got to try Isaan at their new Chinatown location. Got plenty of dishes to share: Papaya salad, fried chicken, green curry, pad see ew, khao soi, pineapple fried rice, mixed meat platter. I enjoyed everything except the pad see ew, lacked wok hei, and wasn't too flavourful. The same with the pineapple fried rice but I usually would get this. The items that's stood out were the fried chicken and khao soi. The chicken tasted like crispy roast chicken and very juicy inside. The khao soi was also rich and came in a generous portion. Very nicely decorated from the front entrance to the washroom. The staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. Also got to meet the chef a the end, very sweet lady and wish her all the best!

I was so excited for Isaan Der to open their 3rd location in the heart of downtown, closer to me now. I'm always craving their pad see ew noodles and fish green curry. Chef Ko was the first Thai chef to use fresh wide rice noodles for the Pad See Ew. Chef and owner Ko is such a lovely person and is so passionate about her food, if you haven't tried her authentic Thai food you're missing out. The original restaurant is in the junction area, they opened their second location in Richmond Hill and now in Chinatown. I am predicting success at this location as well since I'm sure she will get regulars coming for her delicious food. When you walk in, the colours look rich and vibrant and the decor is welcoming. They have a ton of seating that's great for larger groups. This restaurant has specific items that are unique to the location. I loved the Piing Pla (grilled sea bass fish with Thai seafood sauce), Tom Zaap Leng Valcano (tangy with a bit of heat pork bone soup), Gai Tod Der(Isaan Style fried chicken),Tum Taang (spicy cucumber salad) and the Khao Piek (house made noodle soup with pork) this dish brings back childhood memories of when my mom used to make this soup, it's a Lao Thai dish and the texture of the noodles and the comforting flavour of the soup will make you want to go back for more! Don't forget to get their delicious Thai iced tea, or finish off with some refreshing tea from ChaTraMue just up the street. Will have to come back to try their dessert since we were stuffed.

We saw this place while driving in Chinatown and decided to visit it. The service is excellent and the restaurant has a lot of seating space. The decor is amazing and thoughtful. We ordered for Pad Thuk and Golden Bag, along with Thai Ice Tea. We also tried the home made coconut ice cream. All items were flavorful. We also got to meet the owner who shared her inspiration and vision for the restaurant.

New location with traditional Thai inspired ambiance. Food is amazing with new items that you cannot get at the other locations. Moving from Queen East to Chinatown was a great move as it is more central to all. Defitely great to order the classics but would recommend coming to try the exclusive items.

That was legitimately the best pad Thai I've ever had! The Tom Kat soup was also excellent.

The menu had several vegetarian/vegan options plus all other options. I ordered online and it was ready when we got there. I asked for some bowls and cutlery and got some. Everything was packed well and still warm when we got back to our room.

Yummy Thai food with fresh ingredients…read more For two people we got the papaya salad w/dried shrimp, Khao Soi w/shrimp, and pad gra prow w/crispy pork. We ordered medium spicy for the papaya salad and it only had a slight kick. I wished the salad portion was more as it was gone pretty quickly. It comes with shrimp chips, pork rinds, and 2 small bundles of rice noodles. The dried shrimp in the salad was very chewy though, which made it a bit less enjoyable. I ended up picking them all out. We ordered spicy for the pad gra prow but it wasn't spicy at all. I think you can ask for the Thai chilis/ Thai chili fish sauce thing on the side but we decided we were fine with no spicy. Unfortunately the crispy pork was not crispy at all and was also very chewy. Overall it was still delicious! The Khao soi mightve honestly been the least favorite, but it was still good. It is on the sweeter side. The egg noodles were cooked al dente and had a nice chew. Sometimes when I get Khao soi it ends up being too heavy or creamy, but the curry for this one was thinner and easy to eat. The shrimp was the best part - super fresh and bouncy. In the end I thought the portions and quality were good. The service was also super nice, and it was impressive to see our waitress cover so many tables. The restrooms were also clean.

I'm definitely coming back here!…read more We ordered the Tapioca dumplings, the beef messemen curry, and the mango and purple sticky rice. Wow! It was all so tasty. The tapioca dumplings are unlike anything I've tasted before. They serve it with a side of lettuce, mint and peanuts. I liked the dumplings better without the sides they served! The lettuce and other add ons dim the flavors of the dumplings. So I prefer just eating the dumplings straight on. The Messemen curry was so flavorful and the beef was so tender! I'm a big fan. If you're a fan of Thai curries then you'll definitely like this! The Mango purple sticky rice dessert was also really tasty! It had a tasty coconut sorbet and it all went really well together. Service was good, food came out quickly, vibes were good. No complaints here!

Unfortunately, the day took an unexpected turn when I had to go to the hospital, and for a while I thought I wouldn't make it at all. As a testament to both the kindness of my friends and the exceptional staff at Lao Lao, they were able to accommodate us even though I arrived nearly two hours late on a busy Saturday evening. Originally, our table was only reserved until 8:00 p.m.--the exact time I finally arrived. Thankfully, with the help of our incredible server, Savanna N., everything worked out. Her professionalism, warmth, and willingness to help truly made the evening possible. More than anything, I hoped the wait would be worthwhile for my friends, who were visiting for the first time. I'm happy to say they absolutely loved it--especially the outstanding hospitality and customer service. A huge thank you to Savanna and the entire team for making us feel so welcome. As for the food, every dish was delicious. Nothing disappointed. The papaya salad was such a hit that we ordered it twice. The Beef Massaman Curry, Crispy Lao Spiced Chips, Banana Leaf Steamed Fish, and the seasonal Vermicelli Noodle in Chicken Coconut Red Curry were all exceptional. Although it had been about a year since my last visit, I was delighted to see that Lao Lao remains consistently excellent in its food, quality, and service. Bravo!

We decided to order just a couple main dishes and they were also amazing. The flavors from the curry noodles were very rich and creamy and absolutely delicious. The drunken noodles had a perfect blend of spices just like Hometown and we will definitely go back to try this and the rest of the stuff on the menu again. The service was amazing, we were greeted by the host with a warm welcome, and the waiter was also very kind. It is a true authentic Thai restaurant and the food and flavors are expected and reflect from the culture. Ambience is just like the islands of why the title of the name is there and the decorations are amazing. Let's talk about dessert, the pandan toast was out of this world. Top two with the coconut ice cream and the decorations and the display was already worth $1 million photo. The flavor was not overwhelmingly sweet but Rich at the same time. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness and delicious food and we will definitely be back soon to try the rest of the menu.

I eat pad Thai in every city I visit and this may be the best yet since I first had pad Thai in college many many years ago. Been chasing that epic pad Thai for years and think I finally found it. Amazing depth of flavor. Partner got the Islamic noodles, which he thought were excellent as well, rich flavor and very well made. Would happily eat again. The only issue I had which made me knock off a star is that the glass and silverware had an odd scent, like the smell your glasses have if there's food stuck in your dishwasher filter -- if you know that scent you know what I mean. Just smelled funky and honestly the smell was ruining the taste (smell and taste are so closely linked) so I drank out of my own water bottle I had brought and grabbed a plastic fork to eat with which did solve the issue but still...less than ideal
