It was such a pleasure celebrating the birthdays of several friends born in July. We had chosen Sukhothai in Markham for our celebration and it turned out to be a great choice. Our meal started with Purple Rain cocktails and some appetizers - Lettuce Cups, Mango Salad, and Grabong (Squash Fritters). They were all great choices! Our mains were Khao Soi with Beef, Pad Gra Prow, Gaeng Kiaw Wan (Green Curry with Chicken), Sukhothai Pad Thai with Chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious, with great flavours. Our wonderful meal concluded with Mango Sticky Rice and a cheesecake that we brought. We enjoyed all the food and great service. I'm normally not a fan of green curry and prefer red, but theirs was delicious; Creamy and flavorful. The Khao Soi was so good. I slurped up every last bit of sauce / gravy The lettuce wraps were delicious. Six to a plate which was perfect for our group! The squash Fritters actually surprised me. The perfect combination of softness and crunchy. The tamarind sauce paired well. We were all pretty full but ordered a mango sticky rice and shared for dessert. Visited Sukhothai in Markham for dinner with a group of 6. The space is trendy and nicely styled. Parking was easy. Service, however, was quite slow and felt lacking, which stood out more because they automatically add an 18% autogratuity for groups of 6. I don't mind that when service is strong, but that wasn't the case here. I had the Khao Soi with braised beef (add +$1). The broth was creamy and flavorful, and the beef was very tender and soft. But the portion felt small for the price, and the food didn't come out hot, which took away from the experience. We also ordered a few other dishes: Sukhothai Pad Thai with beef (mild): decent overall Fresh Rolls with beef (add +$1): flavorful with a surprising kick Braised Beef (add +$1) Masaman Curry: Thick sauce, potato, and your protein of choice. It was quite rich, but tasty. There is not enough rice to balance it out. It would also go better with a few lighter side dishes. I like that you can choose your spice level for most dishes, but overall, the experience didn't leave a strong impression. The small portion of food took over 30 minutes to come out, and with the high gratuity, I expected better service. I recently had the pleasure of going to Sukho Thai in Markham as part of a work team lunch. I've been to the one in Toronto, so I generally knew what to expect in terms of food. My usual go-to is the Khao Sai with beef, however given Sukho Thai's portions are quite large, I opted to go with their cashew chicken. It came with a bowl of rice and LOT of chicken! I was pleasantly surprised with the taste. It had a perfect balance of spice and taste. The interior was quite nice as well. Personally I like the ambiance of the Toronto location more, however I do like this one as well. Overall the service was great as well. The food came out in a timely manner and the waiter was incredibly nice. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great Thai restaurant! read more

We were seated immediately on a Saturday around 2 PM. It wasn't until we sat down and saw that menu that there is an autogratuity of the 18% which is rather steep. Larger parties are subjected to an autogratuity of 20%. We ordered several dishes: fresh roll beef, pad kee mao, Khao soi, pad thai, and Masaman curry with beef. Overall, the food was alright if you're really craving Thai food. I didn't think there was anything special about their dishes. About 25 mins after we had ordered, the server came back to confirm that we knew that pad kee mao was made with the thicker rice noodles. I was confused because why would they not have checked with us when we first ordered? It took ~30 mins to get our food and we watched other tables that ordered later than us, get their dishes first. I probably wouldn't come back any time soon. I'd rather try another Thai restaurant. read more

Reservations is a must as I tried to go there a few times and there was no table available for walk ins. First time, I was given an option to sit at their patio or at the bar. The patio was kind of cold that day so I declined and went to another Thai place nearby. Another time, I ended up waiting for a good 20 minutes, which the wait wasn't too bad actually. I ordered a pad Thai, a pad kee mao and a curry. All the dishes were good. For the pad kee mao, they do not use the thick noodles. The dishes weren't the biggest but they don't cheap out on the meat. I suggest getting the spice level to medium at least. Anything less, it won't be as flavourful and maybe even sweet. At the last yelp event, I had the opportunity to try the green and red curry. The panang curry that I ordered was delicious and I paid $1 more to upgrade to the braised beef. Service was courteous and friendly. Happy to see more and more Thai restaurants in Markham. read more

Sukhothai is owned by the same people behind Pai, so I went in with high expectations, and I wasn't disappointed. The inside is really nicely decorated and I felt like I was transported to the streets of Thailand. I'd highly recommend making reservations in advance as it was a full house when we came late on a Saturday night. I really liked the Thai milk tea, it was tasty and not too sweet. Another highlight was the chicken wing appetizer, I liked the spicy and sour sauces as well as the light and crispy chicken skin. My friend and I got the chicken Khao Soi and Nua Gra Teaum. Both dishes were tasty with generous portions. Service was friendly and attentive despite how busy it was. It's great to have Sukhothai as a solid Thai option in Markham and I look forward to coming back, especially to see their pretty patio setup in the summer. read more

Was super excited to see this spot open up in Markham! I've visited the Front St location before but having it so close to home is great. Sukho Thai is a delicious spot with all your traditional thai fare. While you can't go wrong with their pad thai as it comes in a heaping portion and tastes delicious, the show stopper at this restaurant is the panang curry with beef. I dream about this dish at times, that's how good it is. They also have a lot of yummy desserts - my fav is the mango sticky rice. During the pandemic, I craved Thai food. There were a handful of Thai eateries that I had tried around me. The one that I liked was in my neighbourhood, within walking distance, which has been my go-to Thai place. Well, I now have two. An in-person Yelp feast happened at Sukho Thai a couple of weeks ago. I had never been to this restaurant. It's in my neighbourhood, within walking distance. It is where Day and Night Angus Steakhouse was for many years. I got to sample the following drink and starters during the feast: - Limeade - It was purple thanks to pea flower powder in it. I loved it. It had a touch of sweetness, but with the tang and tartness of lime. - Shrimp chips with tamarind, and sweet and spicy dipping sauces - The shrimp chips were crispy and thicker than regular potato chips. The tamarind sauce was tangy and a touch sweet. The sweet and spicy sauce had a nice kick to it. - Mango salad - Yum! The mango wasn't overly sweet. It was on a crispy, thin rice chip. It was refreshing. - Spring rolls - Delicious, veggie, and crispy. - Zucchini fritters - Although I'm not a squash person, if you fry zucchini fritters, I will eat them. They were delicious with the right amount of salt. - Tom yum soup - It had a lot of perfectly cooked veggies. The broth was light and tangy. The mains came out next: - Pad thai - Outstanding. You mix chopped peanuts in. I particularly liked the green onions, chicken, and bean sprouts with the rice noodles and fabulous sauce that coated everything. - Green curry with veggies - Yummy! It was flavourful with coconut milk as the base. The veggies were delicious. - Red curry with chicken - It also had coconut milk. Fantastic! The chicken was tender. I loved both curry sauces that I poured them on my steamed rice! We got dessert: - Coconut pandan gelato - It was melting fast, so I had it first. It was creamy with a slight hint of pandan. The coconut flavour was more present. It was yummy. - Cassava coconut - The cassava coconut had some chopped nuts in it. It had a jello-like consistency to it. I loved the shredded coconut around each cube. The dessert didn't have a whole lot of flavour and wasn't sweet. I ended up dipping it into my melted gelato, which made these cubes fabulous to enjoy. In short, everything was yummy. I returned the next day to pick up a small tub of gelato. I had no problem finding a parking spot in this plaza. I backed into a spot and walked in. I waited at the frost counter. It was a busy night. I had a cheerful woman take my order. I asked her what flavours of gelato she had. The coconut pandan one was available. She also said thai milk tea; and mango, coconut, and lime. I went with the latter. All gelato flavours are by Death in Venice Gelato Co. It runs a bit high at $12 for a small tub. However, it's worth it. It's vegan and you really can't tell that it is. She entered my name and phone number in the system. I paid with a credit card. I tapped my card and the transaction was completed. She went into the kitchen to get my tub of gelato. She came back with it and placed it in a paper bag. I thanked her and left the eatery, excited to have dessert after dinner. The mango, coconut, and lime gelato was excellent. It was tropical heaven with every creamy spoonful that I devoured. It was creamy with a lot of flavour. It was slightly sweet. It's so worth shelling out for quality gelato without any dairy. I still need to go back and order dinner from this place. I am content returning for gelato, knowing that I like everything that I have devoured from this eatery so far. (213) read more

I so wanted Sukho Thai to be good since it's so close to work. While this branch of Sukho was not bad, it was merely just ok and definitely on the expensive side. On my visit, I ordered only their drunken chicken stir fried rice noodle. By the way, the lunch menu is the same as the dinner menu. The flavour is actually good. Mild spice was just pretty much no spice. But the biggest knock would be the lack of 'wok-hay'. Service is courteous, but I'd say robotic or formulaic. The plus is the lady who seems to be the owner would check up on how things were. As she approaches to collect plates, tap up water, clean up or do whatever, she would use the phrase, "May I???" She should be commended for her politeness and proper grammar, but was it severely overused and borderline annoying? Definitely. For $20 there are way better lunch options that will give you a bigger bang for your buck. If you have to go, go during dinner time so that you feel a bit better about it. read more

It was so incredibly flavourful, creamy, and rich without it feeling heavy. The meat was so tender and soft, cooked to perfection. Good ambiance and good food. It's located in a small plaza with ample of parking spots. Came here with my parents and brother and had a good dinner. Servers were all polite and attentive throughout the dinner. We ordered the beef khao soi, Thai fried rice chicken, grabong, crispy tofu and curry rice. Each dish was good. The only dish I did somewhat felt like it lacked some taste was the khao soi than most Thai restaurants I've tried however nonetheless the portion size were generous and had lots of chunks of beef brisket. Khao soi is amazing! Got this tofu one, but surprised that veggies aren't default included in each meal. The options were chicken, beef, tofu OR veggies. Threw me off because then you're just getting a protein, noodles and sauce, but oh well, still a great dish full of flavour. Garlic nuggets were ok, not as tender and juicy as I expected. We had to sit outside because the inside was full but that was okay it was cold but taking with my lovely wife made the time go by faster. The glass was dirty but I asked them to change it and they changed it, the waiter had a smile on his face, we ordered the pad graw pow beef, khao soi chicken, pad kee mao chicken. We waited almost 30 minutes for the food which was quite a while but they apologized and it was worth the wait that's all that matters. I have been to this local sukhoTHAI location many times, and I really enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere! The staff are very friendly and attentive. I love sitting at the outdoor patio (pet-friendly!) under the beautiful fairy lights in the evening ^^ Highly recommend: - Fresh Rolls - Pad Kee Mao - Panang Salmon - Ube Cassava Cake I want take this time to praise the kitchen team for taking my food restrictions seriously; the team listens and delivers! They are able to do non-spicy; I'm quite sensitive. I personally do find that the stir-fried entrees are on the oily side (bc when you stir-fry, you need oil to do so). Wonderful. Sukothai (Wellington) is my fav Thai restaurant in Toronto and of course I had to drop by their newest location. We tried several different dishes and all were very flavourful. The restaurant is great for large groups and even has a party room at the back that seats approximately 25 guests. Josephine our waitress was a delight. Will definitely be back with a larger group. A SukhoThai location opened up in Markham so I had to try it out with some friends. Made a 5:30 reservation on an early Saturday night to avoid the long lines. Restaurant renovations reminded me of a beautiful Thai bar with a cocktail bar when you walk in with many slightly dim lights shining on you. For each main, you have the choice to pick your spice level.from mild, medium, spicy or thai spicy. 1) Chicken Gaen Phed - Red Curry with squash. Selected the medium spicy level and was honestly very tolerable. The curry had more of a sweeter taste and lacked some flavour as compared to some other tahi places I tried. Our group was feeling hungry and ordered quite a bit carbs to share. Ordered with medium spice level. 2) Beef Pad Thai - Authentic, sweeter taste but some of the noodles and beef were slightly overcooked. Lacked some flavour ( like basil, chilies) - for example 3) Pad Kee mao - Had a very savoury and sweet taste. However, similar issue with the pad thai as the noodles just only had the sweeter taste and not much flavour. Portion sizes were also a bit smaller compated to other places. 4) Pla Taud- surprisingly my favourite dish for the night. The fried fish was crispy, with tons of fish meat and soft texture. Lastly, the service was reasonably quick and responsive. Overall, I would rate this restaurant 3.5/5 stars. Downtown Thai restos are moving up north! We came here on a Saturday around 5:45 and were seated right away. They have a big patio as well. We ordered: - Tom Kha Gai (coconut soup): 2/5 It was really salty!!! Good amount of sourness and had lots of meat and veggies inside. But jeeeeeez the amount of sodium left a weird feeling in your throat too. - Chicken Wings: 2/5 Quite disappointed by this. $19 for 8 wings/drumettes... which would have been acceptable other than the fact the chicken itself was bland. Only flavour came from the vinegar-fish sauce dip, which was still pretty light in flavour. It came out piping hot tho. - Pad Thai: 3/5 Average pad thai. Not the best... it's a bit lacking in tamarind flavour. But fresh and massive portion! It's very spacious in here, the tables are spaced apart well. There's also a bar area. This place is like a 3.5/5 stars. Located in the plaza where Day & Night Angus Steakhouse used to be, the resto is moderately sized. The plaza it sits in has quite a lot of parking so that shouldn't be an issue. My gf and I arrived on a thurs night w/ no reservation at around 7:10pm and were seated within 10 min on the patio (which is massive btw). We ordered only 2 items as we expected huge portions (having eaten at BKK Thai a month ago). Beef pad thai: Good flavour, nice tang. Not in the same league as the pad thai at Chiang Rai. Some of the noodles were slightly overcooked imo. But the authenticity was there. Chicken khao soi: The 'mild' spice lvl was actually tolerable for my gf for once LOL. The chicken was moist and cooked so well. The broth was layered out the wazoo. I was expecting quality commensurate w/ Pai downtown. After all, the owners of Pai were the ones who opened this place! I've gotta say, it doesn't quite meet the same bar that Pai has set. Maybe it's the inflated pricing and the smaller than normal portions? This place is good in terms of authenticity but quite honestly, it doesn't stack up to BKK Thai, Isaan Der, Chiang Rai or dare I say, even JATUJAK in terms of value. I will say the khao soi broth did have the same flavour as the one at Pai though, so that's a huge plus. And they also had some really interesting cocktails that looked tempting. read more

Sukho Thai has a new location in Markham! It's located on Brimley where Day & Night steakhouse used to be. Love that They offer an amazing list of Thai dishes and drinks. Cocktails of the day are $8 only. The environment is clean, spacious to accommodate small and large groups. They also have shaded patio seatings for those who prefer to eat outside. I've tried almost everything on their menu and especially loveeee their shrimp chips, they are so addicting! Gaeng Masaman Curry, Khao Soi, Pla Taud fish platter are also my favorites! January 7, 2024 - Went here for dinner with my friends. Loved the decor and colours of the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and nice. The Garlic Shrimp & Garlic Chicken were crispy and nice. I actually got pretty full from that and the Guay Tiaw.... We felt that the Guay Tiaw Shrimp was plain until we added the chili oil and peanuts. It was good... my friend added too much chili oil and couldn't eat it cause it was too spicy for him. So I'd say to add a little at a time. My friends ordered Panang Beef & Khao Soi Beef, they felt like the beef could've had more flavour but the everything else was flavourful. One friend said that mild was too spicy for him. I ordered Khao Soi Chicken (medium)... loved the flavours. I took most of it home. My mom also ate it and she really enjoyed it. I'll definitely have to get spicy level next time. I didn't know SukhoTHAI had location in Markham? It was perfect for our father's Day feast! We ordered Squash Fritters, 1lb Spiced Lime Leaf Wings, Pad Gra Prow with beef, Pla Taud, SukhoTHAI Padthai with shrimp, Khao Soi with chicken and Panang Curry with braised beef. Second time ordering take out. Not sure why I took so long to try this place and I live so close to this restaurant. I have to dine in one day and write another review. Take out is great. Everything was packaged nicely. I was surprised on the care they took to package each item. The Khao Soi is my favourite item at any Thai restaurant. The broth is so delicious and flavourful and packed with so many jumbo sized shrimp. I always get medium spicy which is the perfect combo of spice for the coconut curry broth. The garlic shrimp was also delicious. Huge, crispy shrimp paired with a house made sweet chilli garlic sauce. The chicken satay was equally as yummy and the homemade peanut sauce was also a nice pairing. Overall, my meal was so satisfying. Sukho Thai is a well known Thai restaurant in Toronto. They have a few locations downtown, and recently opened up their newest location in Markham, at Steeles and Fenton Road. This location is located in a small plaza, in the space formerly occupied by Day & Night restaurant. They have a sizeable patio, and ample parking in the plaza. This Markham location has a cozy vibe, with dim lighting, colourful paper lanterns and umbrellas, and chill music. We came on a Wednesday evening about 2 weeks after they first opened. The restaurant was fairly busy, but not full. They have plenty of tables, including bench seating. The washrooms are clean, although at the time of my visit one of the toilet stalls was out of order. We opted to get takeout as this was a second dinner for hubby and myself. We purchased the garlic beef in medium spice with fried egg and rice. I do like that they opted for simple packaging that was biodegradable. The portion size was enough to share. The garlic beef was tender and flavourful. There was a nice spicy kick. I really enjoy pad gra pow and this was a nice alternative but without basil or ground meat. I look forward to coming back to try some of their other popular dishes. read more

Took my daughter with friends here today for her 26th birthday and it was amazing. We were greeted with smiles and our table was set up just right for 15 people. We were seated in the covered part of the outdoor patio and the ambience was great For starters, we ordered the shrimp chips, lettuce cups and chicken wings. It came fairly quick and everyone couldn't get enough of it . Most of the guess ordered the khao Soi, Padthai and I got the garlic beef with rice and double egg on top The food was so tasty and delicious. Not every could finish their dish cause it a good serving. Everything went well, the service was excellent and food was so delicious I highly recommend this place to everyone if you haven't been yet . read more

TLDR - Interesting but not memorable food. A-OK for group gathering. In typical Yelp style, we chose to dine at Sukho Thai out of curiousity. An isolated Thai resto, a packed parking lot, and we had never been, why not? First off with a welcoming greeting and a nice decor. The seating was a bit too close among tables. Foodwise, we ordered a Lettuce Cups appetizer, a Lemongrass Fish (came with rice), and a Masaman Curry (came with rice). The Lettuce Cups was a simple nevertheless refreshing appetizer. A decent sharable. The Masaman Curry was not the same as I had at various Thai restos. Maybe it was just me, so neutral verdict. The Lemongrass Fish was a let down. The breaded shell was tasteless. The accompanying Thai fish sauce saved the day. The fish filet inside the crust was tender. Sukho Thai has nice ambiance for gathering. But the food won't be why I return. read more
