This is a bakery. Don't go in expecting something else. They bake stuff, and most of it is delicious. I've been a handful of times, and love to try different breakfast baked goods such as almond croissants, chocolate croissants, and anything that fits at 8:30 in the morning. Have been coming here for years, recently French owners sold it and it's not like before. Prices went up and quality went down. French baguette used to be thin with authentic shape, now it's an American version bigger and bulkier. Some pastries like lemon pastry is not there anymore, overall pastries look and feel different, some definitely look bigger, perhaps justification for a price increase?! They use old logo on packaging, but changed logo on uniforms and now uniforms are black, yikes !!! they look sloppy and dirty with marks of flour visible from ten feet. I bought several items, all except the baguette were very mediocre, the quiche and butter cookies I threw away, they had an off taste. OVER-RATED. Had the Croque Monsieur (which they burnt while heating) which was unimpressive. Thin slices of what is probably Stop & Shop ham on a piece of Wonder-like bread. Quiche was hard and not-so-flaky croissants. The plastic fork and knife are so cheap they broke while cutting into it. Not even is the league of a French boulangerire/patisserie in France. Don't.waste.your.money! If you're in New Haven, try Marjolaine, NYC try Maison Kayser, St Honore in PDX, La Gourmandine in Pittsburgh, Cafe 86 in L.A. for some inventive Ube treats, La Boulangerie in SF, Some Crust in Claremont, CA.....and the list goes on, but DOES NOT include Isabelle et Vincent. read more

This was an extraordinary bakery for the 10 years it was run by its creators, a wonderful couple from France. It has new ownership, a guy who comes from the world of commercial baking in Middle America. The bread has changed and it's not anything like the glorious bread of the past. It's thicker, doughier and disappoints. The pastries, which I bought yesterday for the first time since the new ownership, resembled supermarket danish you get in a package with none of the buttery taste and texture of the past. Even the Palmiers are half the size they were and bear no resemblance to what they were. There would be a chance to win me and my 40 mile "bread run" trips back if the new owner makes an effort to do what worked. For now, I'm saving the time and the gas. read more

Their pastries are the best, just love their Napoleons, just delicious. Had an Almond-Chocolate croissant which was delicious, which was even better with their delicious coffee. I had the little Ganache as a prelude to the croissant amazing. Amazing looking breads too. They are so friendly now that new owners, the owner is such a gentleman and will talk to you about his food. He uses the best tasting chocolate. I was there eating my pastries in the car and at least 10 people went in and out. So they agree with me. read more

This is a wonderful french bakery. Great traditional french classics....a must try the Mille Feuille (Napoleon) or the eclairs . I 've ordered cakes for Birthdays and received so many compliments. The place and the products are beautiful but... I found their almond croissant to be lacking in butter and almond flavor, a much better example can be had at Harborview Market in Black Rock. I suggest the owners try it themselves. It also seems that their quiche has gone down a little bit since they originally opened. We were looking for good fresh French pastries, so we brought a chocolate eclair (which was filled with bland chocolate pudding and there was so much chocolate pudding so much you couldn't even fit it in your mouth without it going down your shirt). We also brought a lemon meringue, artichoke quiche, and a white chocolate eclair. There were chunks of artichoke in the quiche , You could choke on the big, big chunks of artichoke. I don't know about you, but we are certainly not coming back to this fake French bakery ever again. We saw way, way better real French (not frozen) pastries in our life. For such a chic bakery, they have bad customer service. My mother went Christmas Eve to buy my birthday cake, some desserts and two baguettes. There was so much chaos that the girl at the register didn't give my mother a receipt or the two baguettes. That day, my sister spoke with the owner Isabelle and was told to come the next day and to ask for Isabelle so that we could get the two baguettes. My mother wasn't able to get there until 4 days later and was told by the staff that Isabelle didn't arrive until 6pm. My mother waited and tried to talk with Isabelle (in her Spanish accent) only to be disdainly treated and sent off stating they would not help her without a receipt, even though it was their fault she didn't have a receipt to start with. I called and spoke to Isabelle the next day to see if the misunderstanding was a language barrier, but I was told that they would not help us and was rushed off the phone and promptly hung up on. I have worked in the restaurant business and even retail during the holidays and know how busy things can get. But you ALWAYS treat the guest in the best manner possible. I would understand if there was an issue if a guest was requesting money, but to fight and bicker for two baguettes is extremely petty, sloppy, and incompetant as a business that caters to the public. As overpriced as their items are, you would think you would at least get better service than what we got. read more

Great French pastry, breads, chocolates...New to Fairfield I drove by a few times and didn't give the bakery much thought despite the bright crisp exterior. Then desperate for a birthday lemon tart I phoned and as soon as I heard the French accent on the line I thought hmm I bet this place is pretty good... upon arrival the smell of a French boulangerie signals you are in for a treat (or you can just take a peek at all of the awards in the foyer) super friendly staff answered all questions. I have been here many times trying different items at different times. Unfortunately Isabelle Et Vincent is not very they consistent . I don't know if they have different bakers at different times or things don't get sold so they are stale. I would give Isabelle Et Vincent on some items a 5 like their Bread it is always perfect and consistent. The palmiers a 4 most of the time but sometimes they are burnt otherwise would give them 5. I am a croissant lover. I've had them in Quebec City where they are wonderful and many bakeries in NYC. Their croissants which I really wanted to love is a 1. They are not flaky and taste stale. I've tried the almond croissant and I'm not sure what the filling even was..... maybe saw dust. Very shameful for a French bakery. This should be their shinning star. Now I have tried many of their pastries and again not consistent. Some of the creams tasted fake and not fresh. I won't purchase their pastries. They do have some great items like I have pointed out so I wouldn't disregard them totally. read more

I have been going there for years, and certainly hope they are around for years to come, because it's the ONLY reliable place in Fairfield County are to get all my French favorites. When you walk through the heavy wooden doors, the first thing that hits you is the heavenly smell of a true French boulangerie and patisserie -- fresh, hot bread, wood tabletops, coffee, and a hint of sweetness from the many glistening, sugar encrusted pastries. Their selection is bountiful: a glass case full of chocolates and truffles, a section for breads, breakfast pastries, croissants, and tarts, a section for quiches, sandwiches, and savories, a section for desserts, tarts, gateaux (cakes), and other sweet endings...it goes on and on. And their wide selection delivers. I've sampled my way around their offerings, and they hit the bullseye every single time. Their breads are phenomenal -- the texture, crust, and quality are spot on. Their croissants, morning pastries, and sweet breakfast tarts are marvellous: not too sweet, and with that warm, homey taste that lets you know some care was put into it. Their quiches and croque monsieurs are savory, balanced, and SO satisfying -- I love to bring my home and eat them with a simple side salad. Their desserts are also divine -- gorgeous, light, and airy confections of cream, fruit, chocolate, and puff pastry that shine in their glass cases and scream BUY ME AND EAT ME NOW YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO (in a French accent, of course). Oh, and hit them up on weekends for the best beignets (donuts) EVER. Once you have a vanilla cream filled beignet, with its crunchy coating of cinnamon sugar, you'll never go back to Dunkin' Donuts. Last but certainly not least, the lovely family who owns the bakery, and their staff, are unfailingly welcoming and charming. Seriously, they are SO nice, it is just the proverbial "cherry on top" of this wonderful French bakery. If you can't make it to Paris, this is the next best thing. It's hard to choose what to buy here since everything is a beautiful confection to both the eye and stomach. The owners are charming and if you speak French, they are even more delightful (if that's possible!) The Napoleons and quiches and the assorted little bites trays of desserts (great for an office or hostess gift) are sublime. Bread and cookies and tarts too. Their homemade chocolate is decadent and beautifully packaged. Linger at one of the tables and it feels like a cafe en France. They also offer coffee, tea and beverages as well. For Christmas, pre-order their "Bouche de Noel." It's superb and your holiday table will look like a photo shoot. Seriously.
