This lovely bakery hasn't disappointed me yet. My favorite items so far are the almond croissants and a sandwich with turkey, cranberry sauce, cream cheese and red onion on a pillowy brioche bun. The moment you walk in this lovely store you are confronted with an amazing selection of chocolates, cakes & cookies spoiling one for choice. This was our first visit, as we wanted to get some good patisseries for visitors, and took the opportunity to have a tea & coffee while trying something out for ourselves. Our choice was Opera & an Almond Croissant which were very good. However, our hot drinks were served in paper cups which was very surprising & disappointing. The surroundings & quality of patisseries etc surely deserved china cups & mugs as we have had in a smaller but delightful European cafe in Norwalk. read more

Great presentation, friendly staff, everything is among the best in area. It's not as good as NYC/Paris bakeries, but for the CT burbs it's quite good. $ 34/38 for cakes and fruit torts and $ 5 for baquettes seems high to me. I was on my way to an appointment and wanted a good cup of coffee and a pastry or cookie. The coffee was great but the cookies, ugh.....what a mess. What a disappointment to have french made cookies taste like the refrigerator then backed up with a bland taste. I didn't come to a french bakery to get the quality that is worse than Stop & Shop. How can a french bakery serve old cookies that have obviously been in a refrigerator for days? They need some quality control. Please taste the product before putting it out to the public. France in CT!!! this place is heaven on earth - i went just before close on a Saturday and picked up a variety of delicious pastries that were authentic to French pastries (not overly sweet or heavy but delicate and balanced). This is a great place to grab a cup of coffee and eat some delicious French pastries! I think it's important to note that this place is a 100% authentic French bakery so be prepared for it to not fill the standard American high sugar high carb fare. I've been to Isabelle et Vincent a few times recently, and was unbelievably impressed with the quality of their items. I've sampled the quiches (delicious!), bread (perfect texture and very yummy--different kinds, like Parmesan, cranberry/walnut, etc.), pastries and cookies (all excellent). For Easter, I ordered a coconut cake--I had to travel and wanted something that would still be in good shape by the time I got to where I was going. It was fantastic--moist and flavorful cake, and the frosting was not cloyingly sweet as so many other bakeries often have. It was a huge hit at our celebration, and I was instructed to bring it to the next family function! Highly recommend! read more

When we lived in the area two years ago this was no doubt the best bakery anywhere beween Stamford and Bridgeport. Now we came back to Fairfield and went straight to the Isabelle and Vicent. Right away we noticed a change. While the croissants and patisseries were still of good quality and the prices (not cheap) were the same as 2 years ago, the taste and presentation was not authentic french any longer. The baguette was not crisp and the sweets we bought seemed not to be freshly made. There was this pastry called Opera. Now it resembles more like a cheescake. Before we used to buy fresh choclate there. Now there is very little choice when it comes to truffles. Again, the quality was good - but now it's just a bakery amongst many and does not set itself apart from the rest as it did 2 years ago. read more

One of the best bakeries I've been to. They had fresh pastries and everything tasted amazing; however it is a little expensive. They also make homemade chocolates and french macaroons. The staff is friendly and willing to warm up anything. My personal fav was the blueberry crescent warmed up. read more

My wife placed and prepaid a holiday order which was evidently given to another customer. An apology and substitutes were offered. The apology is appreciated, but if she had wanted what was left on the shelves she would not have bothered to place an order in the first place. This is by far the greatest bakery I have ever been to. I recently moved to Connecticut and discovered this gem while two of my family members made the trip with me to find a place to live. Immediately they began planning trips to visit me AROUND THE OPEN HOURS of this bakery. It's that amazing. About a half hour south of New Haven, it's well worth the drive. Pastries that flake and melt in your mouth! And the staff/owners are all very friendly and helpful. I was surprised to read the picky reviews on this bakery. I went for the first time yesterday -driving 50 miles from the shoreline to check it out and subject myself to the dopeyness of Fairfield county-the hype, higher prices, the nasty drivers. I was on the lookout for a decent Napoleon which in New England can be hard to find. I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe the previous reviews favored the previous owners -as we know peeps hate change. Anyway, whoever waited on me was in no rush to walk me through everything they offer in the case which is alot. I took home 3 pastries-so far all good, 2 mini quiches, and a cheese baquette-absolutely delicious. The cinnamon croissant samples near the register were wonderful. Although the prices weren't rock bottom-about 30 for the bunch-this place is worth a return visit. Honestly I am willing to pay a little extra for a place without attitude these days because that is in short supply. Merci! read more

I am usually far from being a food snob and hate when others act as such. However, I feel justified in being just a bit snobby in this case (since I've gotten an haughty air from the owners, or whomever it is in the back baking, both times I've gone), and with that will say that anyone who knows French baking, knows this is just off. I think these people play on the fact that this area of town will shell out big bucks for anything with a French label on it. I'm lucky enough to have grown up on the pastries and tarts of the amazing Patisserie Bonte in NYC and now live in Montreal, which has an abundance of French pastry shops and baguettes available virtually on every block of the city. The first time I went to Isabelle et Vincent, there were no prices anywhere. We just basically ordered blind, hoping the end would not be a fortune (which, of course, it was). Second, they call themselves a bakery, yet when I asked the high school-aged girl serving us, what bread they had besides the long oval shaped bread I saw, she said "that's all we have, the baguette". I looked at her funny, because I certainly didn't see any baguettes out, and asked her where the baguettes were. She pointed and said in a somewhat instructional manner, "this is the baguette" to that oval loaf!! My husband (who spent his formative years off and on in France) and I were a bit amused but we went along with it and didn't correct her. This mislabeling, however, continued. Nothing really was the way it is supposed to be. The brioche was hard throughout and had no taste to it, pain au chocolat was forgettable, and the croissant wasn't flaky or buttery, more like eating dry air (in that it wasn't tasty and I felt like I hadn't eaten anything after). On our second trip, the assortment of tarts and cakes we tried were neutral in taste, not sweet, which can be a good thing if you balance it out with another note, such as the richness of the chocolate or high quality of the fruit used, but that wasn't evident either. The pastry cream used did not stand out, no flavors to reminisce about. This was a super blah experience, one that I lived twice since I wanted to try it more than once before leaving a review. I have to agree with the other reviewers recommending the Pantry not far from here for tastier treats or SoNo bakery. There's too much hoopla over this place, but not enough substance. read more

Having spent much of my childhood in the French countryside, and then taking my husband on a trip where he had delicious French pastries, including from Brittany and Lyons, we have been on the hunt for something as close as possible here. We don't expect the exact same quality because you can't get the same ingredients here (eg butter). We called ahead to ask specifically whether they make eclair au cafe and pain aux raisins, two of our favorites. A couple months later, finally got around to making the 3-hr round trip. We were disappointed as soon as we walked in by the smell... The lack of smell. No fresh bread smell, no scent of butter and cream. They had one eclair au cafe left, which tasted day-old: stale and dry, especially compared to the vanilla one my son had, which was reasonably good. The salesgirl didn't know what pain aux raisins was, so we settled for what she called a raisin croissant, which may actually have been intended as a pain aux raisins but was chewy and not raisiny. The rest of the items were good or okay but not amazing. Overall, very disappointed. Also, very limited seating. Won't be making that trip again!! read more
