Not even close to real french bakeries. Pastries were not fresh, chewy, and very expensive for that quality.

It is nice to see a French pastry shop in Fairfield. There are some goodies here. However this is not first rate French pastry or baking. Everything I tried was a bit off. Being that I am French, I was a bit disappointed. However I imagine most people will like their baked goods. read more

Tried this place for the first time this week and it completely disappointed. The chocolate croissant priced at around $3.75 was good but had very little chocolate.. This piece had around 2-3 chocolate chips in it. The hot chocolate was very overpriced as well. We expected good french hot chocolate from this place but the hot chocolate tasted exactly like the powdered swiss miss brand you can buy at the grocery store! At $4 for a 12 oz cup, we were extremely disappointed. This business is likely making around 400% profit off of this hot chocolate. This is not a good business to support in Fairfield, especially when there are so many other bakeries that have much more reasonable prices. read more

We have regularly gotten the bread there and it has been historically good. Lately the prices have gone up (even though they were extremely high to begin with) and the loaves are now half the thickness of what they were a few months ago. Not worth it anymore. read more

I am absolutely in love!!! I went there for my first time yesterday and was able to meet Mike the owner who is so friendly. As soon as you walk into the bakery you can smell the aroma of the freshly baked goods. I love how they have their breads displayed, I sat down and had a cup of coffee (which was delicious by the way) and an almond croissant. The croissant was delicious, I purchased two pastries, the coconut mousse cake and a mini fraisier. The coconut mousse cake was just a slice of heaven, it's a nice portion but you don't have to feel guilty about eating the whole thing, it's so light and fluffy and filled with such flavor. The mini fraisier was so good, my one year old practically ate most of it even he couldn't get enough of it. I cannot wait to go back Saturday morning and see the different sandwiches and explore more pastries. Would absolutely recommend this place, worth every penny. read more

The best French baguette ever. I spoke to the master himself and he brought the "starter" for the bread over from France. It is crusty and soft and most of all chewy. The chewiness did it for me! Try the onion and bacon baguette. Put it in the seat next to you and see if you can make it home without eating it. Their pastries are decent but he is more of a baker than pastry chef. read more

Some items are great like the fresh bread and fudge but all items are well over-priced but given the location on Post Road, expected. I much rather have Luigi's Bakery from Bridgeport in town here. No offense but Italian pastries surpass French pastries. Typically you see Well-to-do people in here having coffee and some item. The coffee is surprisingly good and they actually serve it in a small size. Not like a Dunkin or Starbucks 'small' which are actually 'giant'. The products are good but nothing special. I've tried an almond croissant and a brioche with walnuts. Both ok but not good enough for the price. I spent $6.30 for a small coffee and the almond croissant. I could get double the food and more than double the drink from Billy's Bakery for just about the same price. Unless you find something there for which you don't mind overpaying to indulge, I'd skip it. read more

Everything from Isabelle's is fantastic, that I have tried. The Parmesan and olive breads are both delicious. And the tarts, chocolates and pastries are among the best I've had. Too die for- the closest you can get to France without leaving Fairfield. We always get their baguettes when we have guests over, and their desserts and sandwiches are wonderful treats. I ordered a birthday cake almost at the last minute (the day before) when I realized I wouldn't have time to bake the tart I had promised. I spoke with Isabelle on the phone and we decided on a chocolate ganache cake with raspberries. The cake turned out to be a gorgeous shiny chocolate cake with delicate decorations and when we all tasted it..oh my, it was glorious. Used to be terrific when first opened. While some of the treats are still unique, the quality has gone down. The butter croissants, which once were light, flaky and heavenly, are now simply flaky, The almond croissants, formerly rich and luxuriant, now have mundane dough with a sprinkling of sliced almonds tossed on top - reminds me of something one could make from a grocery store-bought dough. Bread is still scrumptious, eclairs are still better than average. The sign out front ("French Bakery") says it all -- it used to be a very fine boulangerie, patisserie, chocolatier, but now it's just a good French Bakery. Every time I'm in the area I stop for a fresh baguette, which is the best I've ever had. They are now the only place I'll buy a baguette unless I really am in a pinch. I have tried almost everything they have to offer and have never had anything less than wonderful. My faves in addition to the bread are the beignets, palmiers, croissants, and quiches. Everything I mentioned is affordable for anyone wanting a tasty treat. The cakes and handmade chocolates are more expensive for a reason; delicious, and for a loved one or special occasion. The owners are so gracious, and you will be greeted with a warm bonjour if Isabelle sees you. The staff are all young and top notch. The owners come from generations of bakers, and the bakers they hire create some awesome stuff! read more

I really wanted to love this place and maybe this was an off day for them (it was the day after one of our recent heavy snows.) My purchases were to go...I got croissants ($2.90/each) and the ones that were packed for me were dry and over baked....disappointing. I also bought palmiers ($3.05/each) and they were completely inedible.....dark; tasted burnt and were too hard to eat. I ended up tossing them, which was a waste! I also got large coconut macaroons (the size of my fist) $3.05 that were moist, fresh, not too sweet but the inside was still raw......The woman who waited on me seemed to want me to reply in French and I got the feeling I was somehow offending her by not (I could very well be misinterpreting her demeanor.) I will go back at some point for the macaroons (I'll try the small) and some bread and will report back. I included the prices above as I do not find them to be high as other reviews have indicated. read more
