This is one of my new favorite italian restaurants in the bergen county area. It's ambiance is very old school with table cloths, dim lighting, wine cork decorations and it's a very no frills experience. For appetizers we got fried calamari which was a massive portion, not caked in breading and super fresh. Other dishes included the mussels with linguini and the chicken justin and both were incredible. Pasta was super aldente, the mussels were so clean without grit -- and the chicken was to die for. Our waiter was very attentive & knowledgeable & even held our table while my date & I went out to grab a bottle of wine, as this is a BYOB restaurant. The calamari was top 3 that I've had in NJ , the seafood pasta was AMAZING & the wait staff was very respectful, considerate and kind and worked as a team. Went for dinner last night with three other couples, and everyone enjoyed all their food. The service was excellent! We were served promptly assisted with wine opening, and our food always checked on to see if it was OK I had a special appetizer that consisted of mango avocado, crab meat, and shrimp. That was absolutely delicious, and very filling so I could not finish my dinner. My fish was cooked perfectly with risotto and our desserts were delicious. A favorite place for my wife and I, a reliable Italian neighborhood joint with good food and very friendly service. The place is intimate and the food is very good. Food was outstanding! The reason for 2 stars is simple. This place seems to cater to a certain ethnicity and flat out lets the others know they are not wanted. We were served bread with no butter, house olive's (which were delicious) however if we didn't see other tables getting them served we would have never had them. We were given no option of fresh cracked pepper/salt or cheese meanwhile we watched other tables get served and asked these options. please note that I did not actually get to dine here. Made a reservation for a Saturday early dinner, and specifically mentioned I wanted to get there for the prix fixe deal and was told no problem. Immediately we had some hesitation when walking in. Showed up to a half full restaurant and the employees stood around for a while before eventually coming to seat us. After being seated, we waited for a while as the wait staff walked around for a considerable time. Eventually, someone came by and when we tried to order, was told that the prixe fix menu was not available on weekends which was not what we were told nor what is shown on the menus. Ive been hearing such good things about this restaurant so I took my friend and 2 others for lunch. We love stuffed artichokes so we got 2 for the 4 of us. Worst stuffed artichoke we ever ha. It was dry you couldn't pull the leaves out and they put some red spice not paprika something very spicy all over it. Then 2 of us had chicken bruschett. Couldn't cut the chicken and it tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill. Service was good but I will never go there again. This BYOB offers exceptional service in this small restaurant. It's divided in 2 spaces with a very small entrance foyer. It can be a bit loud when large groups are dining. The food is very good Italian American style and the portions generous. A table for four can be a little tight as there are 3 kinds of glasses on the table plus bread, olives, and salt/pepper. When we bought our house in Hawthorne, we had no idea that there were so many amazing restaurants in town. If you haven't been to Justins Restaurant you have to go! Make reservations unless you're eating before 5:30pm. This is a BYOB gem!! At first we thought this was going to be a scary experience. You walk into a converted house and there's hand sanitizer on every table. Weird ramps, exposed pipes... but then you hear the specials! Amazing appetizers, fresh fish, bone in short rib. This review is NOT about the food as it is usually good, it's about the way we were treated. Our reservations were made weeks in advance for a special occasion. We arrived slightly early (15 min) and were made to wait out in the rain. When I asked if there was a place where we could sit until our table was ready, we were told there was nothing available when in fact there were empty tables. Our reservation time came, and the table still wasn't ready. After waiting 30 minutes in the pouring rain, they pulled tables together and sat us next to another big party, instead of putting us in the back room. The table was too cramped and crowded, and the noise level was too loud to enjoy our meal. I'm very upset that two of my guests who traveled over an hour to come were made to wait out in the rain for 30 minutes. Our occasion was ruined because of this, and we won't be coming back. read more

The butter should have been sitting out longer to soften up. The entrees were big portions. Was able to take a bunch of it home. The cannoli cream was delicious. Too many tables, too close together, too much noise. Staff and guests were banging into our table and my seat. A/C was set on frigid and I was cold. My prosciutto and melon was lost on the plate ... white melon on white plate and it was dark in there. The food was slow coming out and the staff knew it. The waiter came over to tell us our food would be out soon. By the time it came out we were not hungry any more. I asked for a check and the food to be wrapped up to take home. I am sorry but you only get one chance to make a first impression. My wife and I will not be going back. Tomorrow when we eat the food, I may write another review on the actual food. read more
