The food was very good. I ordered Turkish coffee, baklava, the mezza plate, a fattoush salad and some fried cauliflower. Each item was good, but each stated they came with pita bread. Tried this place with my parents. Nice authentic little place. Guy at grill took our orders and prepared it right there. Didn't speak much English, but really friendly. We got the chicken shwarma, falafel gyro and falafel salad. Not bad prices, $8, $7 and I forget how much the salad was. Not much seating, so we ate at the tables at the Foster food trucks across the street. AMAZINGLY good Mediterranean food and decent portions. read more

I am very shocked w the other reviews. Ordered this on Uber eats; I was more than impressed. The portions were great for the price. The chicken and lamb were flavorful and authentic. The rice was perfectly cooked and to top it off....the Falafel was one of the best I've had. I was provided all the sauces and the presentation looked very nice. I bought a drink ordering online and he wouldn't give it to me. I guess these reviews have a minimum limit to how much you right but I mean that was kinda it a feel a lil ripped off. I mean I guess also I couldn't find the restaurant and the dude was outside smoking a cig and got all pissed off and confused when I asked for my food but I mean not finding it is cus apple maps sucks and I don't really think everyone needs to be in a good mood all the time. The staff of this restaurant will lie and screw you over, so I can't believe that their tableside manner can be any better. We ordered food on UberEats, not realizing that the app took us to Portland instead of Washington. The same minute we ordered, we called the restaurant to tell them we were going to cancel and to please not prepare the food. When Uber eats called about canceling, less than 5 mins later, he said the food was already made, and would have to go out. They either have the least fresh food ever, or they are lying just to screw us over. Either way, not cool! read more

I was expecting a more authentic taste but ended up disappointed. I ordered a chicken shwarma sandwich, the menu said it came with tzatziki but instead was covered in a ketchup/mustard like sauce. The chicken didn't have traditionally flavored strong spices like it would if it had been rotisserie cooked all day. The cold mezza platter was covered in Mayo and hot sauce. The falafel had a good flavor and crunch. Portion sizes were generous. Salad was also covered in weird mayo/ketchup sauce inclusive of pickles it was similar to a Big Mac minus burger. Been going here for the last few years. Great late night spot when you've got the munchies. I always get the chicken Shawarma plate, side of hummus and an extra pita. This is the perfect portion for my girlfriend and I and we devour it every time! Food quality has been consistent--I've tried other items like felafel and lamb gyro (both solid) a few times but the chicken Shawarma is the best I've had so it's hard to get away from that. Tzatziki excellent as well I'd recommend getting an extra portion of that as well. Usually just order through Uber eats-just a much more streamlined process to pay in advance and pick it up without any hassle. read more

I ordered the lamb gyro with fries from here on postmates. The gyro tasted good, however there was very little meat. It was about 25% meat and 75% veggies. Most gyros I've had throughout my life have been about 50/50. The fries were a little undersalted but good. The combo did not come with the garlic or tzatziki sauces as advertised. I've ordered food here multiple times for delivery and while the freshness definitely varies depending on the day, it's still one of the few foods I'm willing to get delivered. (Of course any food will be less fresh when you get it delivered instead of eating it right away!) I get the falafel sandwich and get an extra pita to transfer everything over to so it's a bit fresher. read more

This place is great! I was so surprised at the low rating this place has, and then read some of the negative reviews... some nonsense. There's one particularly bad review from someone who has a condition called MCAS, something I also have. MCAS leaves a person with a very, very long list of food sensitivities. A list that I hardly understand, and it's my own dang list. Something I don't do with my list: impose it on a busy restaurant that has no reason to know about my obscure health condition. I'm not gonna order something and ask them to omit five f*cking ingredients, especially when those ingredients are integral to a dish that is from a culture I don't exist within. If I want to adhere strictly to my dietary needs, I cook for myself, or I go to one of the many restaurants in Portland that specifically cater to those of us with allergies. I don't expect a lovely little middle eastern restaurant to stop adding cayenne to a dish that has always had, and will always have, cayenne. Get the dolma! These guys are fantastic. This place has the feel and atmosphere of many of the small restaurants I've frequented in the Middle East. I stopped in for a small hummus plate and falafel gyro and was not disappointed in the least. I recognize good falafel when I taste it, and Ishtar Gate does an excellent job. My first Yelp review will be of this hole. Went one night for a bite with a few friends. Took 30 minutes for the one guy to do a postmates order ahead of us, then three sandwiches. Even the postmate workers were ticked off. Clearly the employee was overwhelmed by what should have been a small amount of orders. Much of what they use is pre-made and low quality. Grocery store gyro meat, and not even much of that. Gyro didn't match the description. Worst gyro in town, went straight to the garbage. And they managed to mess up my friend's order, but we didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for a redo. Lastly, they didn't keep it clean. Skip right past this place. read more

Best gyros I have ever had! The ratio of meat and veggies were porportionate. Their homemade and fresh Eastern European food is a prime example of their love of their culture... I haven't been this upset about food since I was pregnant. Who the hell puts pickles and pickle juice on hummus! I'm literally saying HAMBURGER PICKLES! I usually order beef Shwarma from the other joint so I did the same. The beef was dried out bits of grossness on a bed of what looked like yellow Rice O'roni. Reading through the comments, I see a definite trend here. I have eaten here through Uber eats 3 times. All 3 with varying results. The first time everything was fresh and well put together and tasted awesome. Second time was 6/10 on my freshness meter. Everything tasted ok but I was left feeling dissatisfied. The last time I was very disappointed, wilted gross lettuce, watery hummus etc. So I am not sure what to say. Can be good if the food is fresh?! As a restaurant, seeing the same complaints over and over seems to not have made an impact on how they do business. read more

I have ordered from this place via UberEats twice. I was ignorant to do it the 2nd time. Both times I said "no hot sauce. I am allergic." Yet it shows up (the entire plate) covered in hot sauce, both the lamb and the rice. It ruins the meal entirely and I can't eat a bite - TWO TIMES. Also, this was the worst baklava I've ever had. It was very stale. The pits bread smelled like cleaner and seemed it was not fresh. So disappointed in this place. I won't be attempting to eat here again. There are many other Mediterranean restaurants or even food trucks like Abu Omar that are way better than this quality of food being served as well as them never paying attention to food modifications.
