    Chicken Shawarma Plate
    Katie E.

So incredibly delicious every time. Fresh flavorful I highly recommend trying their food in particular the chicken Shawarma plate. It's consistently wonderful.

Both the makanek amd Sujouk having to be reheated

So Ishtar had my food ready in 15 minutes! That was great but the speed sacrificed the quality of the food. I live two blocks away and got the food as they took it off the heat. When I got home it was cool and I had to heat it up. Chicken kebab was dry and honestly the beef and lamb dishes makanek and sukout were tasty. I have had good experiences at Ishtar but this one was not great. I was severely disappointed with what I got today :( I believe in Ishtar and I will be back and expect it to be better. I will improve my review when that happens

tiny hole in the wall place with excellent food and big portions. It's more of a to-go spot as there isn't much room inside. Chicken shawarma plate is amazing and my friend loved her gyro too. I've been back several times

Love this place, hands down the best gyro you'll have in Portland. A little hole in the wall joint with BIG flavor! Best in the city. 10/10

The best meal we've had in ages. The love that must have been put into this food is notable. Don't pass up the Lamb, Kafka and falafels. The salad is perfection with pickles, tomatoes and a dressing that balances the plate. You won't regret a choice.

We were able to try a wide variety of dishes, and every single one was exceptional. I have dietary restrictions (no onions or garlic), and the kitchen and staff were incredibly accommodating. They prepared separate versions of several dishes for me without hesitation, and I never felt like I was getting a lesser experience. It's rare to find a restaurant that can accommodate food sensitivities so thoughtfully while still delivering incredible flavor. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish, and the service was impeccable. The staff was warm, attentive, and made our birthday celebration feel special without ever being overbearing. Everyone in our group left talking about how amazing the food was. We couldn't have asked for a better meal or a better overall experience. Mediterranean Exploration Company has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite Portland restaurants, and we can't wait to come back.

We weren't too hungry and ordered 3 dishes to share - the hamachi crudo, baked feta with Blackberries, and braised Greek greens. The service was pretty fast, we received our food within 15 mins. The hamachi crudo was tasty with fresh fish that balanced well with the yummy smoked eggplant, tamarind soy, black harissa mayo, and crispy ginger. The baked feta was the heartiest dish, it came out with piping hot pitas to dip into the creamy savory/sweet feta and Blackberries. The braised Greek greens felt like the most basic dish out of the 3, collard greens cooked with a lemon/olive oil finish, which tasted as described but not exciting enough to order again. Just as the name implies, this restaurant is a nice way to try Mediterranean dishes for those who don't eat it often. Admittedly, the cuisine isn't in our top favorites, but all the dishes were executed well, true to their description, and made for some fun bites.

Nicholas Restaurant has a really cute, welcoming vibe, with outdoor tables and plenty of seating inside. The hummus tasted incredibly fresh, the tzatziki had a nice tangy kick, and the falafel balls were perfectly crispy and flavorful. For my main, I ordered the chicken breast kabob plate, which came with two skewers, rice, tzatziki, and garlic sauce. The chicken was incredibly tender and cooked just right. After today, we've finally given up on this restaurant…read more This wasn't an isolated incident--it was the fourth bad experience we've had here and the third visit in a row where my meal arrived while my husband's did not. Each time, we were left waiting 15-20 minutes between meals, which meant my food sat getting cold while we waited for his. What is most frustrating is that nobody seems to recognize this as a problem. Whenever we asked about the missing order, there was never an apology or any acknowledgment that one person at the table was eating while the other had nothing. The response was always a casual "it'll be out soon." Today was the final straw. My food arrived (partially), but my husband's never did. We waited, asked about it, and received the same indifferent response. Meanwhile, my meal got cold sitting on the table. After a long wait and no sign of his order, we got up and left. I've never walked out of a restaurant without eating before, and we have given this place far more chances than most people would. Kitchen mistakes happen, but when the exact same failure occurs repeatedly and no one seems concerned enough to fix it, it stops being a mistake and starts looking like incompetence. Brunch is not complicated: people seated together should receive their meals at roughly the same time. After four disappointing visits and three consecutive experiences with the same issue, we've lost confidence that this restaurant can manage even that basic expectation. We walked a few doors down and enjoyed our hot breakfast simultaneously elsewhere. What a concept.

The young lady at the counter gave possibly the worst service I have experienced in a long time. The outside seating area has trash and debris from the previous day...we were there right after open... needs to be swept. Doesn't appear like it has been pressure washed in a while either. Planters are smeared with dirt, concrete stained with food buildup and tables need a bath. The inside is just as bad, which starts at the front door. Front glass looks awful...smears, dirt, grime, and streaks galore. There are also signs peeling and tape residue left from signage that used to be present. Soda machine and bathrooms were also beneath expectations. You can't have a "thank you for supporting small business" sign if you aren't doing your part. I would love to support you in the future, BUT service and cleanliness must improve.
