Love it! We were visiting the area after seeing the national parks in the area and decided to stop for lunch. After a mishap at another restaurant yesterday, I was worried about the service at Florida restaurants. Pulling into the area we were checking out Irma damage and decided to stop for lunch. Wanting to try something new, I was curious about the alligator basket but had never had alligator. Someone in my party asked if they had a sample that we could try and our server, Erika, brought us three alligator bites to try. The alligator bites taste like a little chewier chicken with a little spicier but also a little different flavor. They were really good. This is what I was having! At our table we also ordered the shrimp basket and fish & chips. Everyone was very happy with their meals. Everything was very good. We ordered and Erika kept checking on us and joking around with us. Erika you could tell enjoyed her job and the people that she was able to chat with. She would tell us how we were making her hungry and we offered her to sit down with us. The decor was beautiful and the tables with the maps were definitely cool. This place really had a decor that was festive with the area. In the end I asked to see her again and offered her an extra tip thanking her for the great service. This cozy seafood and sandwich joint in Everglades City is just about as laid back as you'd imagine it would be, with lacquered wooden booths, faded curtains and furniture that's seen better days. But the food is delicious, particularly the Gator Bites and Fried Oysters. I was underwhelmed by my Fish & Chips, but the rest of our meal was terrific, and the service was friendly and efficient. There's a forgettable gift shop and ice cream parlor out back that isn't worth your time, but the cafe itself is well worth a stop if you're looking for good local grub in the 'Glades. read more

This is a fantastic restaurant! All of the food came out very quickly and was so delicious. I ordered the fish and chips which were incredibly tender and flaky! September 2018 -- this might have been the only place open, so we checked it out. It didn't look great but the place was busy. The service was good, the beer was cold and the food was great. I wished for a better beer selection, settled on a Heineken which I downed in record time (took me back to my youth). Got the fish tacos; get a choice of sautéed, fried or grilled. They were tasty but the star was the French fries. OMG! Do not cover them with ketchup. Don't know if they have a special secret seasoning, but they are good. And I needed a second beer. They place is wonderfully local. Asked my waitperson why the staff was all young males, never seen that before; it was like a Seinfeld episode. Connor explained there's not much work available after you graduate. Nice kid. Don't miss the window stencils - pictures of local scenes. Cute local cafe. Not too many food options on Everglade City so we decided to try our luck here. We were not disappointed. Typical fried foods on the menu. We did see gator and frog legs but where not feeling adventurous. We played it safe and got a burger and chicken tenders. The food was good except the coleslaw. It was in a little jar and looked really watery so we stayed away. The service left a lot to be desired but it's to be expected when you have a teenager in a local cafe as your server. There were not a lot of places open to eat in this area because a lot of them are only open during High season. Wish I could like this place more. Lots of breaded Seafood items, Burgers, everything had meat in it so not great for vegetarians. It's a real cute atmosphere but the teenage service was slow. This place was recommended to us by our kayak guide. We soon discovered you are not welcome unless you are a local. As we walked in, we were told to sit anywhere. We sat. And sat. And sat. After a few minutes, a young waiter came out to service the other two tables of customers that were near us. He went to the back to get them something without even a glance in our direction. As he was heading to the back after delivering their request, he made eye contact with me, but still, not a greeting, no menus, nothing. We gave him the benefit of the doubt that he went in back to get menus or water or something. Several minutes went by, and a different young man from the back came out. He saw us and turned around and audibly told the first young man that there were "people at B-7." The first boy came out, looked at us and again went into the back. We waited several more minutes. By this time, we had been sitting there for more than 10 minutes still without being properly acknowledged. So, we got up to leave. At the same time, the waitress from the other part of the dining room saw us and asked if we wanted food. We told her we had, but no one was helping us. There aren't a lot of food choices out here in Everglades City. My son went on a fishing trip here last spring and has been here for breakfast. We came here for lunch after an airboat ride. The menu includes lots of fried options and sandwiches . My son had the gator bites and enjoyed them but was disappointed that there wasn't a mustard dipping sauce. I had the chicken strips and fries. The chicken strips were nice and crunchy on the outside. The fries were seasoned which I personally don't care for. My husband had the fish and chips and says it was lightly fried not battered but we're very good and fresh. My daughter had the meatball sub and the meatballs were huge. She says they were okay. The service was a bit slower than I would have liked but they were busy when they seated us. Our waitress was pleasant and gave my husband and I iced teas to go with no extra charge.
