My 12 year old has been asking to go here for weeks - he hears Producer Eric talk about it on the radio every morning on his way to school. We finally committed to going, mainly because this kid never insists on trying something new, and I'm glad we did. The place was bright and inviting, the staff was top notch - very patient with these newbies and made recos that had our taste buds dancing (ok, maybe that was a bit cheesy). My son and I shared the mixed kabob with a Greek salad and fries, and hubby got the Hanover mixed plate with hummus and tabbouleh. Both were delicious, but I have to say his meat was more tender and flavorful. Either way, dipped in their tzatziki, both were amazing. The only disappointment was that the soft serve machine wasn't working properly. My son was also looking forward to ending his meal with ice cream, so.... Nuff said. We'll be back! read more

I hadn't been to Island Grill in quite some time, but thought I would go back to get their wonderful Reuben sandwich! Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Not only did it take about 25 minutes for this to go order (not during lunch hour), but the ribbon sandwich itself was a huge disappointment. The pastrami with sliced very thin, still had a lot of fat on it and was burnt. There wasn't even enough meat to cover the bread the pickle, which is normally a great size was a sad little thing for the price to pay I would expect better. read more

I heard the Island Grill where I use to live was closing, so my husband took me here as a treat. It's a small, but nicely sized restaurant. We happened to come during a a mostly dead time, by accident. I'm not sure what it is like during their busy time here. Parking is easy, which is a plus. Food as always is great. I like the fact that there are so many choices, breakfast options, and kinda Mediterranean food. Everything is filling and tasted great, which is why I loved the old Island Grill near Bellaire. I feel for a quick stop this is a nice place to go to for lunch or breakfast. Not sure if the area and parking are conducive for large groups for dinner Anyways, nice memories of long ago. Glad this place exists. Definitely think you should come by here. read more

It has been a while since I have been here and the renovations look amazing. Parking is still a huge issue but nothing they can do about that. Food is always consistently good and fresh. I've driven by this place a couple of times and was finally able to stop in for lunch. It's a Mediterranean American restaurant called Island Grill...when I think of Island, I think of home in the Caribbean. I think curry and stews, think they might have some goat but in this case we are talking Greek Islands. No curry, no goat BUT they did have a bomb ass Grilled Chicken Pita. Usually I'm not too big on the Garlic Sauce but it wasn't overpowering and melded everything in the pita together very well. Topped it off with some Avocado and BOOM, delicious. I pretty much ate the whole thing. And that pita bread, so warm and soft I could eat it by itself. I was surprised to see Chicken Tortilla Soup on the menu. It turned out to be a pleasant one, a very satisfying small meal if you're aren't too hungry. They have a sweets display and complimentary frozen yogurt for after your meal. Love complimentary lol. It tasted almost as if it had a hint of pineapple flavor but mostly vanilla. They also have a breakfast menu, that I didn't get to try yet but something to look forward too. I'll probably have breakfast on their patio portion when I do have the chance to enjoy that. Overall I was pleased with the light lunch and felt good after. We heard that this was a favorite of JJ Watt's, so we thought we'd give it a try. Overall, we were very happy with the experience. The location itself is small and a bit claustrophobic, but the staff cleaned up very well and quickly as each customer left. The food was very good. The Gyro Rice Plate was huge with a very good balance of brown rice and plenty of well-seasoned, tasty gyro meat and plenty of vegetables to go around. We did have to ask for more pitas since this huge quantity of food came with only two. The Chicken Pita was chock full of chicken, onions and mushrooms and was also very tasty. Let me be clear: I'm normally a fan of Island Grill. My family frequents their Woodway location. They are typically very consistent with their quality. But they have gotten quite expensive over the years. And to get a $14 turkey burger that comes completely plain and sad looking (did not order it plain), that's a bit ridiculous. I could go to a random class B office building's deli and order the same thing for half the price. I expect more from these guys. Hoping they just had a bad day. read more

Love this restaurant! It is consistently very good. Their fish is always fresh and never fishy tasting. Whether I'm getting the island salad with salmon or the cod on pita. Unpopular opinion ... this place is just ok. After reading the great reviews on Yelp, and while in town for business, the Husband and I decided this is where we would eat. As I like to plan in advance what specifically I am going to get, you know, to streamline things, I decided that I would get the grilled chicken pita. Ok, maybe I complicated things when I arrived, as I asked for the garlic sauce on the side, which is an easy request, right? Nonetheless, when my order came they apparently forget it altogether. Is this what is lacking on my meal in terms of taste? Either way, I didn't immediately realize it as I was working on my laptop when it was delivered, and got half way through eating the pita when I discovered this. Took a coworker from out of town and she is very gluten sensitive and she tried a turkey sandwich with their gluten bread and she was so excited to have a really good gluten-free bread! They have amazing smoothies and salads, but I might want to rub their garlic sauce all over myself...it is highly addicting! Great tabbouleh and falafel, but you want queso??? Ordered to go at 12:13. Picked it up at 12:25. Cashier was so nice. I ordered the *Mediterranean Plate* which comes with Greek salad, gyro meat, chicken, cooked onions and mushrooms, and a side of fluffy pita bread. I go often enough that she knows I want garlic sauce, and even gave me two. You have to ask for the garlic because it's not part of the meal. Everything is delicious... Even the fries were still crispy. Fries is not part of the meal, I ordered those on the side. The one downfall is that I pay $20 for the meat and salad + tax and tip. Paying $20 a day is a bit much especially if I take to go often. This caused me to make it a 3 star instead of 4. I'll be back... Next week most likely. read more

Service was the worst. Came in to dine with my children with only 3 people eating inside. The lady takes my order, almost forgets to give me my number ... then we sit and wait. 2 new fresh customers come in minutes later they get their food ... I got to the bidder and tell him can you check on this number. Seems like they didn't have my order at all. They start rushing it ... no manager at all to come and talk to me to explain what fact happen. Seems she went to the back, busier comes out with some chips with water down salsa. We've been long standing customers of the Island/Bunker Hill for years. Went at least once a week, sometimes 2-3 times a week. The employees are very nice, helpful and friendly. But since their remodel the food has changed and so has the noise level. Whatever materials they used does not seem to absorb sound at all. Last time we went it was so noisy I couldn't even have a conversation with my husband across the table. They really need to do something to help with this. It makes for a not so pleasant, relaxing lunch. Also from our experience, the food quality is not the same. The last 5 or 6 times that we've been the food has been off, such as, the Reuben sandwich had so little meat 80% of it was bread and sauce. The chicken tortilla soup has been a hit and miss on having more than a few pieces of chicken in it. French fries were way over cooked to the point of being hard several times. And randomly they have served 3 different kinds of French fries to us in the last 6 visits, which is meaningful to me, because I loved their fries. We always thought they had the best pita bread in the city. But lately we've gotten hard, not fresh bread. Really disappointing. We kept going back hoping it would get better, giving it 'one more try' a few times. Couple of days ago we ordered a pita. Mine was served with a long hair laying right on top and intertwined throughout the food. Ruined my lunch. We are in some restaurant at least once a day. We're eliminating The Island after all this time until and if we hear they've improved. read more

Friendly staff and good food. While traveling to Houston in business I stopped here for dinner. I enjoyed the pita and hummus appetizer while waiting for my Gyro plate to go. The Hummus was a simple hummus served with pita and had great taste. The Gyro Meat had a different consistency than I am used to, but the flavor was great. I will return. read more

I had eaten at the location in Bellaire and remembered that the salmon pita was less than $10. I went back and believe the prices are too high for what you get. The salmon pita is now about $12. I had a chicken caesar salad. The chicken was very salty. $14 for a chicken caesar salad in a place where you order at the counter is too much.
