We've been long standing customers of the Island/Bunker Hill for years. Went at least once a week, sometimes 2-3 times a week. The employees are very nice, helpful and friendly. But since their remodel the food has changed and so has the noise level. Whatever materials they used does not seem to absorb sound at all. Last time we went it was so noisy I couldn't even have a conversation with my husband across the table. They really need to do something to help with this. It makes for a not so pleasant, relaxing lunch. Also from our experience, the food quality is not the same. The last 5 or 6 times that we've been the food has been off, such as, the Reuben sandwich had so little meat 80% of it was bread and sauce. The chicken tortilla soup has been a hit and miss on having more than a few pieces of chicken in it. French fries were way over cooked to the point of being hard several times. And randomly they have served 3 different kinds of French fries to us in the last 6 visits, which is meaningful to me, because I loved their fries. We always thought they had the best pita bread in the city. But lately we've gotten hard, not fresh bread. Really disappointing. We kept going back hoping it would get better, giving it 'one more try' a few times. Couple of days ago we ordered a pita. Mine was served with a long hair laying right on top and intertwined throughout the food. Ruined my lunch. We are in some restaurant at least once a day. I have eaten at two locations: Bunker Hill and City Place. Very different atmospheres but always exceptionally fresh, high quality food. I love the Hanover plate! Burgers are good too. I would definitely hype up the fact that Island Grill City Place has smoothies. Add Organic Vegan and Pea Protein, fresh veggies, and almond butter. Let the walkers know you have great smoothies by offering $1 or $2 off with coupons in Impact Magazine. I would also put out signs in the morning that you have great smoothies. It's my first time here. I had falafel pita with gluten free bread and sweet potato fries! It's awesome to see a place that offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options ! food tasted and looked very fresh. I was staying at Hotel Zaza and looking for a healthy option for lunch after checking out. I love Mediterranean food so I thought I'd give it a try. I was really excited to see Boar's Head turkey on the menu because it is my favorite. I decided on the turkey pita because it had some of my favorite ingredients. I got it to go. It was really good! The pita bread was fresh and the garlic sauce had great flavor and there was just enough on the bread. While the turkey pita was great, I was disappointed that they had forgotten the grilled onion, mushrooms and lettuce. I was really looking forward to the veggies. Wow, food was incredible, especially the lamb. Amazing flavor and tenderness. Chicken was good too, but just slightly dry. Feta and Greek yogurt on the salad was perfect. Plate was large enough for 2. Pita was light and fluffy and very good. Packed at lunch so get there early. And a side note for the guys, the number of beautiful women visiting this place was awesome. I usually don't go back and complain and give them the benefit of the doubt but it's happened too often. Likely doesn't happen if you eat inside because you could correct things immediately. I feel like the good review is mainly because it's a lot of gyro for your buck. Also. The atmosphere is very homey, makes you feel like it's a small neighborhood place were most of the customers walk over from the nearby apartments. As for the quality, I will call it standard. The tzatzki sauce could be thicker, and I felt general assembly of the gyro could be improved. It sure did have a lot of meat though, and that's important! Overall. Good atmosphere. I LOVE, LOVE the pancakes at the Bellaire location because it's so fluffy and one of the best pancakes I've ever had.... but here.... different chefs? recipes? Pancakes are not fluffy at all. They're not bad, but I don't usually order pancakes but I love them at Island Grill. Also, their omelet wasn't the same as the other locations. Again, it wasn't as fluffy as the other locations. They do drop off your meal at your table. I personally am not a fan of the counter service that is so rampant in Houston. I ordered the Island Breakfast. It was good, but the fresh salsa was so so. They do have Chalula instead of Tabasco, so that was a big plus. The bacon was decent, but not outstanding. The eggs and potatoes were cooked well. I do wish they offered ham as a breakfast meat selection.I did really like the selection of iced teas they had to offer as well. They did have two very large tv's so you could catch up on Sportscenter or the news. Would I go back? Yes, if I was in the neighborhood, but I would not make a special trip over there. read more

My salmon was well cooked and there was a good amount in it, but the garlic sauce was awful. It was just mayo. If a place calls itself a Mediterranean grill, there needs to be a good authentic garlic sauce. The pita was good though. My friends got the pharma Pizza which they seemed to like and the fried zucchini. The zucchini wasnt breaded, but had a much thicker coating. Moved to a new office location and the best part is being next to this location. The staff are all so friendly and will try to meet any request, just a bunch of nice people that make some very tasty food.
