So this diner did the smart thing and created a bunch of obscenely decadent food items and started sharing them on social media. They get busy, especially during lunch and it's honestly a good diner with a normal, diner style dining room. The service is quick and spot on, if you need a drink refill they are right on top of it. The food is amazing, we like trying the "viral, social media" menu items like the chicken cutlet tacos which use two giant, fried chicken cutlets as the taco shell and the filling is pasta or salad of your choice. Super cool place for sure. Came here from social media (obviously). Their menu is overwhelming, unique and awesome. My husband always wanted to try a dirty soda and his peach choice was fantastic. I know I shouldn't be ordering penne à la vodka from a diner, but I did and it was ok. Not the greatest, but decent. My husband got a ginormous burrito with a cheese injector. It looked awesome and my husband enjoyed it. For dessert, we indulged in rainbow cookie donuts, lava cake and ice cream. Our waitress forgot our chocolate shooter but I felt stupid asking for it. Def worth the viral insta hype! Place looks like a typical dive diner on the outside-I guess inside too, no frills to the ambiance but that social media menu is next level! I came with a party of 8 for lunch and we were seated and greeted right away. I went with the skittles dirty soda and I don't even like skittles but this drink was so fruity and delish. For lunch, I got the chicken alla vodka parm cones-which came with two huge bread cones fully loaded with chicken oozing with sauce & cheese. I could only finish one and took the other for leftovers. Here's the Scoop! This Diner has an extensive menu but on Social media they're known for their large Mac & Cheese burger, fried chicken mac and cheese. One serving can feed 4 people. It was huge and delicious. When it arrived at the table my mouth hit the floor in shock at the size. Come hungry and ready to eat. It was very tasty and we enjoyed it but could not finish it. Island Lake is a great Diner, period. You can find many of their new concoctions on social media, IG for me as I'm not on FB, which draws the crowds and surely makes for repeat visits. There is actually a social media menu! This one particular visit is what prompted me to write! It was the Bread Cone that my daughter's BF saw on IG he's been dying to try. Let me tell you the pictures on IG does not do this dish justice!! Its huge, 2 per serving, and there was zero left at the end of our meal! I've been to Island Lakes several times and they never disappoint. I used to frequent the Island Lake diner, until I continuously received terrible service or was forgotten about at my table. I am pleased to say that it seems like this is no longer an issue. Our server was friendly, attentive, and great at his job. The diner was packed with a 20-30 minute wait and our server was running circles around many of the others. It is bright and clean and although not the newest anymore, still looks better than many other diners in the area. We obviously ordered off of the "social media" section of the menu and we were not disappointed. We got a bread bowl with buffalo mac &Cheese and the chicken Alfredo tacos which were actual pieces of chicken cutlet shaped like taco shells which had Alfredo pasta on the inside. The portions were huge and the food was flavorful and cooked fresh. This diner is a must try if you've never been. It seems like the older generation of owners have started listening to the younger generation. Things are new and relevant and the favoritism for the "regulars"doesn't affect the service that other customers get. Seen this place all over TikTok and had to come try. The penne alla vodka was amazing but the chicken itself is quite bland. Wish it had more seasoning with the breading as it tasted very plain and boring. Ah, the good old American diner. Kind of a vanishing breed these days, but Ronkonkoma has a good one. Always great service, and the quality of the food that comes out of the kitchen never disappoints. The corned beef hash is my go-to here, but the burgers are also awesome and a staple. So social media did it again - this place is good. We ordered the trending Chicken Caesar cones and the penne chicken tacos. The penne chicken tacos were delicious, would go back just for that. Chicken Caesar cones, were ok. The salad itself was great, the cones - not a fan. Onion rings 10/10. The service is excellent! The place is set up like an old school dinner, which is awesome. Island Lake Diner is one of the most exciting spots I've eaten at on Long Island! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was great and the food was even better. We tried the Vanilla Birthday Cake Milkshake and the Chocolate Cake Shake -- both were rich, fun, and so over-the-top in the best way. The Penne alla Vodka in a warm bread bowl topped with crispy chicken cutlet strips was insanely comforting and flavorful. Then came the viral Chicken Cutlet Pasta Tacos -- literally crispy chicken cutlets shaped into taco shells and filled with creamy fettuccine alfredo. It sounds wild, and somehow it works perfectly. I ordered the Eggs Benedict it was terrible. The dish was prepared all wrong ham was hard the sauce wrong and the English Muffins chewy and hard. Couple people who stand at the cash register never say hello never ask you how your meal was and do nothing. Okay, so normally I don't go to diners because I very rarely find good ones. Friends recommended this place because apparently they come here all the time. 100% the best diner on Long Island (that i've tried). I got a Ruben Sandwich, and it was HUGE. I could only eat half the sandwich. It came with a side of fries that was pretty good. And I even tried their brownie dessert - so, so good. I'm surprised I even ordered that from how full I was from the sandwich. I also tried some Texas or BBQ burger - forgive me, I don't remember the name of it, but my husband couldn't finish that either. So re-heated it the next day, and it was really good also! Diners are ubiquitous to Long Island. However, they are uncommon in Las Vegas where I currently reside. I am a fan of the Long Island diner. They are open long hours, provide menus with pages of choices, and are usually good to great with large portions of food. When I spent over a week with my dad at the house where I lived years ago, the diner played a big role in our dining adventures. I am no stranger to the Island Lake Diner. When we moved to the Lake Ronkonkoma area in 1993, it was the Lake Rock Diner. Hence the building has 1980s to 1990s architecture. Throughout the years going back to when Waldbaums and Genovese anchored the shopping center across the street, we'd dine there. During the years that I moved out, New ownership took over changing the name to the Island Lake Diner. This Diner is a better Diner than the one that was here before. Although we could of walked here on a beautiful summer day, we decided to drive here. The parking lot has sufficient parking. Back in 2021, when I visited the diner (this is my second visit under new ownership), there were outdoor tents besides the parking lot that gave customers another option for Covid-19 social distancing dining. Inside, they welcomed us right away. They sat us in the right side of the diner where we had a view of Fox News playing on the monitor. It was not the monitor that I was looking at. It was the voluminous menu. Right away, my default choice was eggplant parmigiana with pasta. I love eggplant parmigiana, a dish that is not very common in Las Vegas. Being that eggplant parmigiana was my meal of choice at three diners during my vacation (July 15 to 24), I can write that this was the least expensive. The same meal in the Holbrook Diner costs $21.95. The Lake Grove Diner costed $23.99. And here, it costed $16.99. This was the only one to include bread with butter and cole slaw with pickles. Just like the majority of diners, it included a cup of soup or salad. I ordered chicken noodle soup. In hindsight I should of ordered the Manhattan Clam chowder soup because I have always satisfied my taste buds in diners. Just like the eggplant parmigiana. This very dish was an example of quantity equalling quality. They served such a humungous portion of pasta and eggplant that I made the meal a two-parter. After enjoying the Chicken noodle soup, and bread with butter, the pasta with marinara sauce filled me up. Later on the majority of the eggplant parmigiana hit the spot warmed up. Another nice thing about the diners are that if I am in the mood for Italian food, they will please my brother who might be in the mood for steak, or my dad who might be in the mood for a cheeseburger. By the way, my dad said that they make delicious cheeseburgers. The service was miles better from when it was the Lake Rock Diner. Our Waitress was friendly and served the plates in a steady manner where we did feel like we were being rushed. What I fondly remember was our visit back in 2021, when the owner or manager complimented our meal with a complimentary glass of wine. Although they were playing Fox News, I was tuned into the 1980s music that played above. The jukeboxes that were omnipresent in Long Island diners, have gone the way of Waldbaum's and Genovese across the street at the Island Lake Diner. The ear candy tunes such as "You're the Only Woman," Against All Odds, "" Leather and Lace, " and" Private Eyes" went along good with the delicious food. Why do I have to live 3,000 miles from the Island Lake Diner when I used to be walking distance? Fortunately my dad still lives nearby. When I return to visit him, it is likely that we will return to the Island Rock Diner. read more

Just had lunch here off a recommendation of others. Diners are a dime and dozen around here, mostly all with lukewarm reviews. I didn't have very high expectation prior to stepping foot in. Like a typical diner, ample seating with restaurant staffs that are helpful. It is a big menu and I got the seared tuna salad. Portion is amazing but two big complaints: one is the tuna is too seared and preferred it to be more rare and the olives had pits in them. Was biting on one and felt the pit crunch. My wife got the southwestern wrap with gluten free wrap and subbed the fries for coleslaw. She felt the wrap was a tad salty. Both our entrees came with a free small soup. Long Island and diners. It's like a match made in heaven. Like peanut butter and jelly. Like spaghetti and meatballs. Like...you get the idea. So when visiting a diner for the first time, you hope to get the quality you're accustomed to at the diners you're used to visiting. I'm happy to say Island Lake Diner recently lived up to that quality and expectation. I mean, I will say the exterior and interior of Island Lake isn't anything special. The outside could honestly be a little bit of a turn off as it looked kind of drab and oddly colored with darker brick and maroon red roofing (Pizza Hut?). Inside was at least a tad more up to date with their carpet and lighting looking neat and a smidge modern. Their outside seating tent and strung up lights were intriguing for a warmer weather evening. Though when I visited, it was the twilight hour between lunch and dinner (like 3ish) so inside we ate. What did we eat? Well that's an adventure all on its own. Yes, diners often have large menus to choose from, but Island Lake's was massive! Pages and pages and pages and...sorry, got carried away again. Seriously though, it felt never-ending, and had I not been craving eggs I'd probably still be there deciding what to eat. I will say menu prices might've been a touch higher than I'd like, but in the same breath it's worth noting their portion sizes are hefty which helps to justify the dollars you dole out. Once I somewhat sifted through the menu, my craving for some eggs stayed true, though I decided to attack them in a skillet form. The chorizo skillet sounded scrumptious which was complete with chorizo (of course), potatoes, onions, black beans, cheddar cheese, and two eggs cooked my way (over easy). Before getting to that, the table was donned with complimentary coleslaw, pickle spears, and pasta salad (a surprising addition). All three were delicious and really got me hungry for my main eggy meal. After devouring through these sides, my sizzlingly hot skillet approached. It looked exactly as I had hoped and tasted almost as good. I will say the chorizo was a tiny letdown as it was super salty, but when eating it with everything else, there was a nice balance of flavors. It was pretty large and deep for a skillet, plus when you add in those aforementioned sides (and some toast) I just couldn't finish the thing. Leftovers are never a negative, especially when you enjoy your meal. Overall, I definitely was content to end my first experience at Island Lake Diner. Though maybe the place has a few small "meh" pieces to it, for the most part, Island Lake does exactly what you expect for a Long Island diner (did I mention the staff was pretty friendly too?). So if you're gettin' hungry, fill your cravings here because you'll feel that LI diner connection for sure. read more

It's frustrating when a simple task is too difficult for the cooks. This isn't the first time, they just wont put Mayo on my BLT sandwich. If it's at the restaurant they put it on the side and wont put it on the sandwich. If I pick it up they don't put it on the sandwich or on the side. I called and the mgr Bill aside it was a mistake. They were too busy. Well if they're too busy maybe they should just close their doors until they catch up. Or hire cooks that know how to read the ticket. read more
