1/2 Seasonal Squash and 1/2 veggie pizza
    Kamal S.

We came here for dinner in a rainy early evening and it hit the spot! The seasonal squash pizza was quite good with the "sauce" being the butternut squash and topped with cheese. We had half of that and the other half was the veggie pizza which had cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, olives with a tomato sauce. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly. For dessert, we opted for the apple pie crumble and added a scoop of vanilla ice cream, simply divine! Everything was so fresh! Overall, I'd come back for more! Happy eating!

It was a beautiful day, and we decided to stop by for a bite to eat. The owners, who work alongside their wife, were also looking after their kid. I can imagine how challenging it must be to find help. Fortunately, the food was great, and we encountered no issues at all. It's definitely a nice place to relax. Definitely a 5/5 when comparing it to other restaurants on the island.

Delicious pizza and garlic sticks, plus very friendly and personable staff! We will absolutely be back next time we visit. After a day on the water, traveling, etc. sometimes you just want to pick something yummy up to enjoy back at the hotel - Island Pie is the perfect place! Open later than almost every other restaurant on the island, and ready within 20-30 mins. We ordered the Cheezie Goodness Pizza and Garlic Sticks with house made ranch on the side - all was delicious! Right across from the Deer Valley Marina with a great deck for dining in outdoors with the fam as well!

Cute little pizza shop with amazing views! Service was quick and friendly, and made us feel welcomed, adding to the local serenity. The breadsticks were perfect; stuffed with garlic and crispy. The pizza absolutely hit the spot. Definitely recommend.

Half Seasonal Squash, half Americas Favorite.

The online ordering was very easy with good descriptions so you know exactly what you're getting. They had a notice on the site when I ordered that the pizza would be slower than usual due to limited staffing - even with that notice, though, the pizza was ready at exactly the time they promised it would be - 32 minutes after I ordered. Pizza itself it was very good. We ordered a half and half of America's Favorite and squash pizza. America's Favorite had a nice amount of pepperoni and bacon on top of a slightly sweet tomato sauce with a thin but not really too thin crust dusted with cornmeal. The squash had a really good squash sauce as the base and was creative and flavorful. We also ordered the beet salad - which was very generous on the beets but could have used a few more candied pecans and maybe something else - goat cheese? Anyway ordering it helped us feel like we were being kinda healthy. The person who helped us when we picked up was very friendly and cheerful.

Walkway. Notice the baby gates. Is this a restaurant or a day care?

This location has so much potential. Unfortunately, it is being operated and mismanaged in every way. We went to Island Pie last weekend when we were at Deer Harbor Marina visiting with our boat. Walking up the sidewalk entrance, it is immediately noticeable to everyone that the owners have no pride in ownership. Dirty sidewalks, weeds, baby toys, dead plants. Same when we walked into the main dining room. We noticed how dumpy it was. Junk lined and lined all the shelves. T-shirts in a jumbled pile, pens, cans knickknacks...No care was put into creating an inviting confortable experience, and the room wasn't inviting at all. We asked to sit on the patio, which at least provided a view of the bay. Again, there is no care for the decor, cleanliness or in creating an invotimg experience for the customer. Mildewy awnings, cheap, old plastic flags, dead old flowers, orange and lemon slices on the floors, chairs askew, and no music. Dirty garbage cans front and center in front of their bar. Buckets filled with trash on the bar. The plastic menus were dirty. Our waitress wasn't sure about what beer they had. When we got the beer, it was semi flat. We ordered pizza, and while we waited, no one asked if we wanted another drink. (A business makes a lot of profit on alcohol). Our pizza arrived on a sheet of wax paper on top of a wooden paddle. We were asked to help slide the pizza onto the table. Part of the pizza was directly on the table. I asked for plates, and they brought wax paper. The owner (who was wearing her cooking apron that should be kept clean) was out on the deck and played with her toddler son. Then we waited and waited for our bill only to be told finally from another patron that we had to go to the front to check out. We spoke with other boaters about their experience, and all echoed our experience. Pizza was "okay," but maybe for takeout, and everyone said, "What a dump!" I hope the owners read this: You have an epic location and opportunity to create a destination that is fun. The bar should be where everyone in the area, and especially the marina wants to be. Us boaters want places to go! Clean the place up! Go through my critique and act on all my points. You might have to get help. It is very apparent that you don't know how to create a menu (decide if you're serving ialian or asian. Your menu is weird), create an ambiance, and an atmosphere. Train your staff better on service. They should know your offerings. You have the location that could really really be something very special.

THE ROSES: Located a block off the main drag in Friday Harbor, VGP is situated in a cozy, peaceful space. On nice days I highly recommend dining in the garden space out back. The salads and pizzas are excellent; they only do a relatively thin crust pizza, but it is done perfectly, and the toppings are of excellent quality. They have a very good selection of pizzas on offer; all the 'usual suspects', and a very creative selection of their own concoctions. For the GF crowd, they also offer a very nice 10" GF crust. Very good selection of wines, ciders, and beers (both bottle and tap). The staff is truly delightful; friendly and very efficient. They really leave you feeling that they appreciate your business. THE THORNS: The menu seems a little limited in that it appears to be just pizza and salads, but I think I'd rather dine in a place that does a few things really well rather than one that has a menu that's 'A jack of all trades but master of none'. THE VERDICT: Van Go's Pizza is a real standout on the Friday Harbor casual dining scene. It definitely worth the short walk up from the ferry landing and away from the tourist traps. Highly recommend!

Menu is somewhat limited to 5 or 6 starters, and only 3 pizzas for mains. Our food was OK, but it just tried too hard to be different. When half the descriptions on a menu item need either a thesaurus or an explanation from the waiter, the chef is just trying too hard. We had the hay smoked tuna, which came wrapped in an oversized lettuce leaf, and a two line description. It was good, but nothing like I expected from the waiter's description. It was raw, which I love, but not as described on the menu. Then we had a salad with "garlic toast" which was nothing more than toasted bread crumbs browned just this side of being burnt. The salad wasn't tossed, so it was only after a few bites that we found the dressing drizzled on the bottom of the plate, hidden beneath the greens. The burnt crumbs overwhelmed the little dressing we could dig up, so the salad was not good. Finally, we also had the Poh Tah Toh Pizza, which was both dry and burnt. Wood fired pizza with a little charring is OK, but our crust was fully burnt about 2 inches in from the edge. I didn't care for the honey on my pizza, though my wife liked this twist. Wine by the glass is limited, but they do have an extensive bottle list, but only of foreign wine. We had a nice Chianti blend, but the dregs had a chunky sediment that ruined that last sip. Again, this may be the best food on the island, but the menu just missed the mark for this foodie.

Very impressive little store full of tons of stuff! Groceries, pantry staples, a small produce section, some premade deli food and cookies. I was looking for the bakery items. And on the countertop behind the register tons of croissants! I said, there they are! The two ladies working were not impressed. I asked for the flavors and the lady said, there is a menu right there. Ugh, not fully awake I realized a line had formed behind me. This is the spot to go before getting in a ferry. Having made reservations beforehand, we were really excited to try this place out. The servers who greeted us were really nice. The restaurant had a beautiful dark interior that gave off a cozy steakhouse vibe. They even offered to take my coat, how nice of them! Despite the hospitality, the food did not really live up to expectations. I got the birria, and while it was okay, it definitely wasn't worth the price I paid. My girlfriend's scallop crudel was almost as pricey and it did not even fill her up. I believe the bill for our whole meal (including a mocktail) was over $80. This was definitely not worth the price point paid for, considering that we were not fully satisfied with that meal. Regardless, many thanks to the Monti staff for having us.

The chicken liver with summer tomatoes was magnificent, even if they needed an extra slice of sourdough to finish the plate. The star was the roasted pork belly. I've had many in my day but this was the crown jewel of belly's - succulent, tender inside and crispy edges, and the flavor was off the chart delicious. Rigatoni with lamb did not disappoint and pasta was cooked to perfection. Saved room for chocolate mousse and it was excellent and not too sweet. Wine pairings supported the wonderful meal.
