I just left them a good review a few weeks ago and now I must leave this review. I went back tonight to purchase a few more things and was treated SO poorly by both managers. I was spoken down to and made to feel like I was stupid by both of these arrogant managers. If you care to read more..... I pulled a pack of mesh filter basket bags off the display. It was marked $9.99. There were multiple racks of this item all marked the same so I thought I would try it. As I'm checking out the very nice girl at the register told me it was $20. I told her the sign said $9.99. She asked the manager Eric who couldn't even stop to let me explain and walked past me saying "these are new they just got put up today and we didn't have time to change the label. They are $20" so I asked the girl for a different manager because I needed to talk to someone and I didn't like how he just dismissed me. After a few minutes the manager Joe comes over. I explain to him and he was already prepared to come back at me and had the sticker from that item that he has taken off the display and proceeded to tell me that the tag says 5 pack and this pack I had clearly said 20 pack, then said the item # here (as he pointed to the sticker) doesnt match the item # of the package. Then said "anyone could have put that together" insinuating that I couldn't....my jaw dropped and I said are you calling me an idiot? He then got very nasty very defensive and very short with me. I told him to take the item off. I won't be buying it, and his reply was I already did. I asked him his name. He told me his name and then walked away and said. "Oh no Eric, someone's going to call and complain about me". I was totally shocked at the behavior of these two managers and how awful they treated a customer. Las week i purchased a pool cover pump from Island Recreational in Deer Park. When I went to use it it didn't work well as the pump would stick to the pool cover. I happened to be passing the store today and i went in side to ask if i could return the pump and I was told I would need a receipt. Since I was already at the store I purchased a better pump with the intention of returning the first. Later in the day when I tried to return the pump I was told that they would not take it back as pumps had a no return policy. This was not written anywhere in the store but it was in tiny little print on the receipt. They would not give me a store credit either. I feel like i was scammed. BEWARE. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING from this company that requires a plug, electrical or anythong of the sort. If you want to buy a toy or sand fine, but forget about customer service or anything that needs to be returned. They DO NOT stand behind their products and if it fails you are screwed! Period! They make you file a warranty claim over email only but you never hear from them. There is no customer service phone number, no one to talk to, and the sales people in the stores are unable to help - even the store manager!! Nothing short of a disgrace and borders on a scam. This place isn't really a trust worthy business. Prices are not clearly marked and the employees sell you on "app" coupons that don't actually exist. The store has a nice supply of stuff, but the employees will hound you like care sales people. Go to a local pool place if you can. read more

Everything will go smooth until you get to the installation . They canceled last minute on me twice and I took off work both days. Save yourself the headache and buy from someplace else. Do not use for installations!! I'll never use them again. Ordered a new liner with installation very early in the season and waited a few weeks for appointment. In meantime, there was a site visit and were told all is ok, even refunded a little money, not sure why. We were told to pump pool down until there is only an inch or 2 and we'd be fine. Day of installation, only 1 guy showed up, says his partner called in sick and the guy tells us there's an additional charge to pump the last inch of water. When I said they told us it was ok, he said well you can pump it the rest of way and reschedule. Didn't want to do that bc who knows when next appointment would be, so said ok. Extra $100. Then he informed us of a deck charge, which we assumed from the site visit was not an issue. Extra $300! He never even went under the deck, everything is accessible from above. So that's a ripoff. Then he put some new sand and raked it, had my husband look at it and approve. Then when installing the liner, he must've totally messed it all up because there are HUGE bumps in bottom, and pool feels about 2 inches shallower in spots, not uniform at all. It's so bumpy in some areas, I can't even move the vacuum. AND on top of all that, there are SO MANY creases in the liner which now accumulate all the bottom filth and it's hard to vacuum or clean. He also did not reattach the skimmer line or incoming water and didn't tell us that. Figured that out when refilling the pool and it wouldn't go past the skimmer. Maybe that's normal, or not, but at least mention it to the homeowner? I STRONGLY do NOT recommend Island Rec for any kind of liner installation because after complaining to friends and family, almost all of them had the same issues! Maybe a couple of pool floats or chlorine tabs, but they lost me as a big ticket customer. Only reason it's not 1 star is they actually showed up when scheduled which often isn't the case with some contractors. read more

So disappointed in using island recreational for a new pool install. Very frustrating to deal with multiple install dates, one day for the pool, separate date for filter and heat pump, very frustrating that information provided to installation team over the phone was not documented correctly, resulting in installer showing up to the job unprepared and rescheduling a week later... with no help from island recreational for a date in the same week even though it was their error that the team did not document correctly. Questioned me rudely and put the blame on me for not communicating when I did. Now I understand all the negative reviews I have read on this company, you pay for what you get.. definitely not worth the headache and back and forth. read more

Island Recreational is fine for supplies but they are incapable of doing s proper job on items like heat pumps. it took two days to find out they can't hook up the electricity and they refuse to takeaway the old unit, even though i offered to pay gor the service. read more

Purchase a pool filter two weeks ago. Pool just installed and filter leaking like crazy. Go to Massapequa location where originally purchased and they were helpful and gave us a replacement motor. Go home put it back together only to realize the O rings aren't on the tubing. Head to Deer Park since it's closer and they tell us yes should've been included but charge us anyhow for the missing two. Never again coming back here. read more

A year or two ago I might not write such a good review. They have definitely changed. I gave them 5 stars because they deserve it! I purchased a pool package in April and had a couple of questions and issues (it was during Covid) and they never skipped a beat and solved my problem. I would write this for Ronkonkoma too because I went there to buy a ladder and they hooked me up. Today I went to Deer Park and spoke to a great guy because the automatic vacuum broke. Without even flinching he looked my account up and gave me a new vacuum. Customer service I give 5 stars. I would ask them to update the phones, difficult to reach anyone but I will not take stars away due to the year we have been through. Keep up the good work! read more

On Saturday evening 8/10 my above the ground pool pump stopped working. The next day I went to Island Recreational in Deer Park and purchased a new one. Having trouble with a pump I purchased in the past. I asked the salesperson if there was a problem can I bring it back. I was assured that if it did not work I could bring back the next day. Well I hooked it up and after 2 or so hours it stopped working. There is a local pool store near me so I went and purchased one there. Thinking I could recur the one tomorrow to IR. Well no go. The manager, I believe his name is Bob, instantly had an attitude. Informed me that box was opened and I was given wrong info on Sunday. The only way to correct it was that I had to travel to their warehouse in Hicksville, some distance away. Next day I went and was given a new one. I did not want a new one, I had already purchased one. I didn't trust theirs. I went back to Deer Park and the same manager , who was too busy on his phone at first, had the same attitude. Stated that I tried to go around system to get a refund. Tried to explain that I bought a pump, it didn't work and I wanted my money back. He stated, well now you have 2. Will never go back. read more
