Initially, I was bummed because cortados were not on the menu. I asked the barista if she would try to make one. She said sure. I gave her general directions and she walked to the espresso machine. A couple of minutes later she handed me a cup with two shots of espresso and a stainless steel pitcher with steamed milk. The barista said, "Why don't you add the milk in so you get it just the way you want." I thought this was a thoughtful gesture. I thanked her and made my cortado. We chatted a bit. It turned out she is Thai and my husband is Thai; and I love to talk about Thailand. I took a few pictures. We exchanged goodbyes and I exited the cafe with a genuine smile and a very positive impression of the Outer Bean. Smiles are free and they can elevate and/or improve any situation. Staff were extremely rude to my family. they were more interested in playing with the teenage and preteen girls in short shorts. it was so loud the staff couldn't hear me when ringing up order. they left off part of my order. when I brought this up staff stated that they have excellent customer reviews therefore in this instance it was customers fault. still trying to figure out how it's customers fault that the staff are too busy playing grab ass to pay attention to customers. I came here for a healthy option, and leaving here with no intent to return regardless of the sub par smoothie. please educate your teen staff on appropriate customer interactions vs being paid to chat up young girls. read more

i have a severe tree nut and chocolate allergy and when i looked at the island smoothie menu, it said their bowls were made with almond milk. so when i got to island smoothie the man at the desk in front of the store was very helpful and replaced the almond milk with strawberry juice and also gave me many other options. he also allowed me to look at the ingredients on the granola (which can sometimes have something i'm allergic too). when i got my açaí bowl, i was so pleased that it was made to fit ME and they even noted on the top "allergy". island smoothie is a great place to go when you're craving something healthy and sweet! read more

My friends and I tried this place for the first time while vacationing in OBX. There are so many choices, we all ordered different smoothies. They were made fresh right in front of you and they were delicious! While we were waiting for the smoothies to be made, they allowed us to sample their nitro cold brews which were amazing as well. The staff was great and very informative on the benefits of all the juices & smoothies. They also offered recommendations on which smoothies had the best flavor. The price was average and comparable to other juice shops. We are so excited to have stumbled across Island Smoothie. read more

I want to start out by saying that this place was ok- but I would never rave about it. They never specify what shakes belong to the person. AT LEAST WRITE THE PERSONS NAME ON IT! When I went, since my friend has a nut allergy, they asked for their smoothie to be made in a seperate blender, and they gave them the wrong one! It gets really hectic and packed in there. The one thing I do recommend is the " Peanut Butter and Jelly" bowl. It is açai and peanut butter, with granola and fruit on top. If you like healthy smoothies that are made there you may like it. read more

We stopped at Island Smoothie the other day while vacationing nearby. I ordered the poke bowl and it was honestly the best one I've ever had! It was so fresh, and the flavors went together so well. You have to try it! My sister ordered a smoothie and loved it too. We liked it so much that we went back today before we head home from vacation. The staff is so friendly, and there was one guy in particular that was very helpful to us! I highly recommend Island Smoothie whenever you're in the area. I spent this past week on an exhausting beach trip and I wouldn't have made it through without Island Smoothie. The owners are passionate about their work and have created endless options for delicious and healthy smoothies. The "Power Up" smoothie is exceptional and gave me energy for the whole day. I also loved the turkey and avocado sandwich and the acai bowls. Absolutely outstanding service, even in a time of uncertainty. I got the peach Açaí bowl for 11 dollars (a little pricey, but you most definitely get what you pay for). Also I need for my server, Kyle, to know that I absolutely appreciate his enthusiasm, even when things don't look to be too good in the world. I cannot recommend this place enough! We've been there two days in a row now and plan to return as much as we can while we're in the outer banks. The food, especially the açaí bowls, were overwhelming delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. It's a great value for what you get! I realized after receiving my smoothies and looking at the receipt that they left it off the order. Staff didn't take any responsibility for mistake or rectify saying it was customers fault.
