The staff is friendly. The room is clean. The pool was clean and clear. The have 3 new gazebos and grills in the court yard. They removed very rowdy guest that was causing a ruckus. This is going to be long, but if you are planning on staying here, you should read this. If I could rate this motel a 0 , I would. The very first thing that happened was that we opened the sleep sofa, and saw the sheets were not clean. By not clean, I mean there were hairs on them, and a big urine stain. So disgusting. We took the sheets off (wished we had gloves) and went to the desk for clean ones. The clerk gave us one top sheet. NO. We need the bottom one too. I didn't take a photo, but I did take one of the stain on the mattress. The next thing was the worst. As I was sleeping, a cockroach was walking ON MY FACE. Yes, in my bed, on my face. Everyone woke up, and we chased it and finally killed it. He was HUGE. When we were checking out, we told the clerk. We asked for a refund and was told someone would call us back within 2 days. No one did, not that I expected it. The clerk said this is Florida, we have bugs, and I told him I have lived in Florida 24 years, and my husband does our pest control, and in 24 years I have seen maybe 10 bugs. Most of them dead. If proper pest control was happening, a roach wouldn't have been in my bed, on my face. It was traumatizing. He made light of it. There was a big rip in the screen on the bathroom window. The window had a crank to open and close, but it just spun around and didn't close. The bathroom had no A/C or fan and was ridiculously hot. The maid never left enough towels and every day we had to go to the desk. We are 3 people. She could see 3 beds were used. Can you count to 3!?? The fridge was kind of useless, as there were no bars on the door, so we could not utilize the shelves on the door. I had to wipe hair out of the fridge. The bathroom sink had nearly zero water pressure. There were spaces on the sides of the doors where bugs can get in, and also the ripped bathroom screen. They only offered 1 key for us. We were 3 occupants. The "lush" landscaping was stones with weeds growing out of them. Believe me when I say, you get what you pay for. We stayed 4 nights. If that cockroach was on my face the first night that would've been it for me. This motel needs major renovation, pest control, and the clerks need to learn proper customer service. No apologies for anything. No promised phone call. This was the worst place I've ever stayed in, in my 74 years of being alive, and I travel a lot. So BEWARE. I will report them to the Health Dept. when I'm done reviewing on this platform and also a few more. This place is absolutely horrible and one of the worst experiences I've ever had. From the moment we tried to leave, the staff made everything unnecessarily difficult. We were simply trying to check out, but instead of processing it normally, we were repeatedly stopped and asked if we wanted another room. We already made it very clear multiple times that we did NOT want another room and just wanted to check out and leave. Despite this, we kept getting asked the same question over and over again, which was extremely frustrating and stressful. It felt like our requests were being ignored completely. We were not trying to cause any issues--we just wanted a simple checkout. Instead, the process dragged on way longer than it should have, and we felt like we weren't being listened to at all. I stayed here for two nights and unfortunately had a very concerning experience with cleanliness and maintenance. The bathroom had visible black mold, including around the AC unit, and the air vents were heavily clogged with dust and debris. The walls, especially in the bathroom, had noticeable streaking and buildup. The shower fixture was loose and appeared to be leaking into the wall. The vent in the wall was covered by cardboard and there was a dead cockroach sticking to it. The floors were extremely dirty--after walking barefoot for just a few minutes, my feet were black from dirt. What was most concerning is that this did not appear to be an isolated issue. A guest staying a couple doors down told me she was dealing with the same conditions and allowed me to see her room, which had similar problems. At checkout, another guest overheard my complaint and mentioned "black mold in the bathroom" as well. When I brought this to the front desk, I was not given clear assistance or direct access to management, and the issue was not resolved during my stay. Not only was I treated with disrespect from the front desk staff but when I asked for the manager she refused to give me any information other than their business card. I wrote a long email and sent it to the address that was on the card and my email was sent back to me and said there was no email address of this name. I documented the conditions and would strongly recommend that management address these issues immediately, as they may pose health concerns--especially for anyone with respiratory sensitivities. read more

Not the best place we've stayed, but it's good enough. Pros: -Wooden floor (I am not too fond of carpet) -Door that opens out to pool -Assigned parking (each room gets one spot right outside your room) -Location - super close to the strip where there are lots of good restaurants -Microwave and mini fridge -Staff comes by daily to check in on you to see if you'd like a cleaning or new items (eg towels, toilet paper, etc) -Friendly staff Cons: -Tiny bath/shower with the power of a lawn sprinkler... so expect your shower time to at least double. -You are only allowed one towel per person. Since I have super long hair, I typically use a second one to wrap my hair. -Bed (pillows, specifically for me) quite not comfy. The pillows I had were flat, stiff. Pillows were probably meant favorite part of our stay. This seems like a mom and pop/family owned, so I can always support such businesses. The service here is very good, the rooms are nice sized and very clean. The restaurant connected to the hotel is awesome. The location of the hotel is very good. I've never had any problems with loud guests or anything like that. The pool area is great. I plan on staying here any time I come to town and am very glad I found this place. The only hang up I had was their unwillingness to give any form of discount for longer stays or for repeat customers. Blatant ADA Violation I was checking into the hotel and voluntarily told them I had 2 service dogs. They demanded I provide an ID card (FL has an over 2yr old law that would actually criminally charge me if I produced such a fraudulent document). I then told them what the dogs were for (NES/ASD), and they informed me, no ID no room. Under the same FL law, they are in violation of demanding fake documentation, along with blatently violating the way a business is supposed to question a disabled individual. When I stood my ground, he deemed that he would allow my "pets" just this once. If they hadn't already charged my card, I would of left in a heartbeat, after filing charges. As of now I will leave it with the FL disability committee and pursue from there. read more

This is an old style Florida motel. Imagine a big square with a huge, WARM pool in the center courtyard with beautiful foliage, palm trees & flowers all about. There's pool toys, a ping pong table & a Boichi Ball game. Each room has French doors that open to this private courtyard where you can sit outside with about an 8' overhang ceiling to keep your chair shaded to protect you from the sun. There's 3-4 umbrella tables to dine at with BBQ grills. This one story building has a parking space for your car right in front of your hotel room door. The large rooms all have AC & ceiling fans to keep you cool. They all have a refrigerator & a microwave with a dining table & 2 chairs. Don't expect first class beds but my king size bed was comfortable & the owners are very accommodating. There's cable TV & free internet but no phones in the rooms. read more

I have stayed in this place twice and both times have been impressed. It is a family owned business and they work hard to make sure that the guests are welcome. We had flowers on our pillow and the room was very nice and clean. It is an older hotel but it is also very affordable in Venice. And it is right downtown, very convenient to everything. The first time we stayed we were there for a couple of days and made use of the pool and courtyard. It was great. The second time we were just there overnight. My husband flew into Sarasota and his flight was extremely delayed. The hotel called to check on us and make sure we were coming. I realize they called because we were the last check in and it was late but I am so grateful they called and checked on us. This is my go to hotel when we go to venice from now on. read more

Excellent hotel! We read a number of negative reviews about this property, AFTER making our reservation, that placed it at a two-star. So we were concerned that we had made a mistake. When we arrived, we encountered very friendly and professional service, parking immediately in front of our room, that was clean and attractive, with pass-through French doors that opened to a beautifully landscaped pool area. The room was appointed with modern touches on an old Florida hotel; giving this place a comfortable atmosphere with quaint charm. The room offered a nice LCD T.V., microwave, refrigerator, iron, and board. I was HAPPY that the room did NOT have a phone. The ONLY complaint I could come up with was that water pressure was lacking. Here, we were close to everything: restaurants, grocery, gas, shopping, and beach! So, I'll start by saying that the bed sheets and the bathroom seemed clean. However, when we walked in, the rooms just smelled funky. We soon realized that the floors were absolutely filthy. We had two rooms for our family and both were the same. I had been wearing shoes the whole day and took them off when we got to the motel. When I went to get a shower, tons of black dirt came off of my feet after walking around in the room for 15 minutes. After that, I took a good look at the floors and was just disgusted. My toddler had been playing and walking around on the floors, so it was really upsetting that their floors are this dirty. We tried to use the towels to clean up the floors but it barely put a dent in the filth. It's obvious that the floors have not been scrubbed or cleaned in ages. In addition, there are all sorts of bits and trash under the beds and nightstand. Really, there is absolutely no excuse for the floors to be this dirty except from sheer neglect and lack of concern. We checked in late at night or else we would have left and found a new place. We took the towels we used to "clean" the floor to the front desk when we checked out and let them know that this is from the floors and that we did not want to be charged for them. The front desk person did not seem phased in the least, so it's pretty clear they've had this complaint before. I'm sorry, but get somebody in there and get the floors cleaned right get the staff to do it themselves... It's a pretty simple task. We took a gamble based on the positive reviews but we were sadly disappointed. Given that both of our rooms had filthy floors, the whole place must be like this. read more

This was our first experience staying at Island Sun Inn. When we entered the room we noticed that there was a mini kitchenette as well as a microwave and sink. We immediately felt like we were on the beach as the room gave us that kind of island/beach feel. We liked the fact that the pool was right outside our door. The beds were very comfortable and it was surprisingly quiet at night. David and his wife are super friendly and extremely accommodating. Whatever it was we needed they gave us... towels.. soap.. etc. as this was our first time we will definitely be back. Not to mention they made sure to let us know they were available 24-7 if we had any issues or questions. read more

I gotta say, after reading the mixed reviews, I was a bit concerned. However, I'm glad we stayed here. Check in was a breeze and I believe it was the owner that checked us in. After completing the paperwork, he presented us with an "old school" key and showed us on the map where to find the room. Upon pulling into the designated parking spot, I looked at my Mom, with a bit of fear, as if seemed like a sketchy alley way. That's where the atmosphere ended, or began. After entering the room, I felt like I was moved back a bit in time to a more quaint and quiet Florida motel. The room was spacious enough for the both of us. Bathroom was clean, a few cracked shower tiles and typical low water pressure. I live in Florida so I'm sadly familiar with the low pressure and cold water that never really gets cold. I did ask for a few extra towels, and I was quickly accommodated. The room had more amenities that I needed: Keurig coffees, hair dryer, microwave, small fridge, etc. The ice maker and vending machines were out on the patio side. The pool and pool area were immaculate and the trees provided ample shade for sitting outside the room. I didn't notice the lack of a telephone until we were ready to leave. As long as there's WiFi, and there was, who needs a phone. I'd stay again and do recommend the place. If you're looking for the Ritz, go elsewhere. read more

Yes I was here during COVID-19 but I don't think I've been in a worse motel. Two stars only for the doors that open up to the pool and the restaurant wasn't to bad either. When I first walked in the room it smelled awful, I had to run out and get air refreshers to make the room smell at least OKAY. When you ran the water for a shower the water smelled absolutely awful as well, I had to use water bottles to wash my hands and to brush my teeth because that's how bad it was. We really enjoyed our stay here. I will say, when we parked in front of our unit, I was a bit concerned because it doesn't look like much from the entrance side. It is an older motel. But when we walked in I was pleasantly met with a nicely remodeled room - especially the bathroom. We had the standard room with 2 queens and it certainly isn't a large space, but perfect for a couple (might be a bit tight for 4 people since the bathroom is tiny). There was a slight odor to the room, but I am almost certain it is unavoidable because people are probably always bringing back shells and shark teeth from the beaches and if not cleaned properly they can have quite an odor. When we first checked in we were told by friends how clean this hotel was. Upon entering our room that was booked which Was 111, the room smelled moldy and like it was cleaned with nothing but bleach. If you have Asthma I wouldn't recommend. Also the bathrooms have no exhaust fans unlike other hotels. Upon notifying the front desk the man that checked us in demanded that he smelled no mold or musty smell in the room. Visiting Venice for a few days and booked this hotel online. It looks rundown, and the surrounding area is not good. I would not have stayed if my children were with us, no way! It looks NOTHING like the pictures. But, we decided to give it a try, it was late and we were tired and didn't want a hassle of finding another place. First room was "fine", the next day we were moved to a different room and that's where it went real bad. We got in late, and ignored the signs. First sign, the door was a struggle to close. Second sign, there was a strange odor; but, we turned the a/c on and it seemed better. The next morning, oh no, we could clearly see the room was dirty, but we were leaving anyway, so whatever. But...wanted a quick shower before hitting the road. Oh no, we turned on shower and the smell was so bad due to the sewage coming up through the drain. We let the manager know, after an abusive exchange, he followed my husband (who is the nicest guy)into the parking lot and told him to "get the fk outta here!!!" I couldn't believe it. The manager then threatened to get his gun...it was kinda scary. Police report filed, Credit card refunded our money, and we are safe. Phewww. For now on I will be sure to read the bad reviews more carefully, this apparently wasn't the first time this man was abusive. read more

This is a great little gem on Venice Island if you're looking for an affordable place to stay. Yes, it's an older hotel, but it's well kept and clean. The pool was awesome. The owners were constantly working while we were there. We stayed three nights and I would definitely go back. Close to the beach and downtown Venice. Plus Blu was a great place to grab breakfast. This hotel is awful. We booked a standard room for our family of 4. Upon arrival they wanted to charge us an extra $10 per child. We had 2 kids under 4 years old with us. After contacting travelocity customer service agreed they do not advertise this extra rate. The motel is an absolute dump. We tried to get a refund as we were very unhappy but due to the staffs unwillingness to help we were charged for 1 night despite not staying with them. DO NOT STAY HERE.
