The haupia was complementary and it was soft and delicious - not too sweet. Service was quick and friendly. They explain how to eat each dish and what to pair it with. The owner of the restaurant was the cashier. He explained that his grandma opened the restaurant and they've kept it open for 80 years. He was so sweet. I was a paying customer ordering a full meal and simply said I would take whatever I couldn't finish with me--which is something people do at restaurants every day. I even added a 20% tip to my order. I tried to explain the misunderstanding at the front counter. I explained that I absolutely wanted to eat my meal there; I was only saying that because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish everything, I wanted to take my leftovers with me afterward. The employee at the front counter with tattoos refused to hear my explanation. Her answer was completely black-and-white: either my order was "to go" OR I could eat it there. There was no willingness to listen to what I was actually saying or resolve what should have been a very simple misunderstanding. Their customer service model simply doesn't make any sense to me. Why should a paying customer be forced to choose between eating their entire meal inside or ordering everything to go simply because they know in advance that they'll need a container for their leftovers? Taking home food you don't finish is an ordinary part of dining at a restaurant. I wasn't asking for anything unusual or special. I simply wanted to sit down, eat the food I had purchased, and take whatever I couldn't finish with me afterward. The interaction felt unnecessarily rude and incredibly unwelcoming. I had specifically come here because I wanted to experience a well-known local Hawaiian restaurant, and instead I was made to feel like I wasn't welcome to sit down and eat the food I had just purchased--even after leaving a 20% tip. Unfortunately, I never even got the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant because of how I was treated. Very disappointing experience and definitely not the kind of hospitality I expected.

The 'uala (steamed sweet potatoes) had a natural, earthy sweetness that we all enjoyed. a-ok is the rating, to be honest its hit or miss there. the staff is generally very polite and quick with their service, however you get the occasional staff member that does the exact opposite, which ruins the whole previous and future experiences. the food is okay for considering what your are buying, good plate lunch, decent price. pretty consistent on what they serve, wish they would provide a brown rice option, as to the folks that still like their katsu but try to be healthy. would go back if really hungry and did want to deal with traffic to some other spots with better service,food. a ok place read more

And i was disappointed in the katsu curry because the curry wasn't on the katsu, it was in a surprisingly small container that wasn't enough (see pics). My overall experience was great because of my experience with the employees, how nice & cute it was, & the food that I liked was good. I just won't get anything curry again. I'll be back for more $12 katsu! Oh & idk if I missed it but I WAS looking for noodles in the online takeout app & didn't find it. But their menu in store has noodles! Try check!

Loco Moco: 6/10 -- It was okay, but the sauce was the part that didn't really do it for me. I was hoping for a richer, more flavorful gravy, but it tasted a little lacking. Overall, the service was quick, easy, and fast, and our food and beverages came out without much of a wait. The Garlic Ahi was definitely my favorite of the two.

Which is honestly a bummer because if they had seasoned Bill's Fish & Chips... dude... it would've easily been the best we've ever had! The other day, my family stopped by Mililani Restaurant after my son recommend the fish & chips. Since I'm a sucker for variety - and I hadn't eaten here in about 20 years - I also ordered the Mini Fried Saimin and Mini Korean Chicken. I love seeing each restaurant's take on these local favorites. Bill's Fish & Chips: WOW. The full order is HUGE! You get three giant pieces of cod over a mountain of shoestring fries. The fish was cooked beautifully - super crispy on the outside while staying moist and flaky inside. But oh Lord... it needed salt! The fries had a great crisp too, although they did have that darker, old-oil flavor that was a little hard to ignore. Since I'm a foodie who likes to come prepared, I happened to have lemon wedges with me lol!... and man, did that take the fish to another level. Hey, don't judge! (I'm pretty sure my family was embarrassed... but ask me if I care. Hahaha! Jk... kinda.) We all agreed that if they had simply salted the fish right out of the fryer, this would've easily been a 5 star dish. Mini Fried Saimin: Can we talk about that portion size for a mini?! Super generous! Unfortunately, this one also needed more seasoning, and the oil flavor came thru more than the other ingredients. I know it's fried, so some oil flavor is expected, but it kinda overpowered everything else. A little more shoyu would've gone a long way. Since fried saimin is usually one of my favorite things to order (local girl at heart!), I'd give this one about 3 stars. Mini Korean Chicken: The sauce was delicious and reminded me of Sugoi's Garlic Chicken. The only downside was that the chicken itself wasn't hot. It tasted like it may have been cooked earlier and then portioned out for my plate. The service was friendly, helpful with recommendations, and they packed everything securely. Our order was accurate, and the prices felt fair for the amount of food you get. They definitely have a great variety for a neighborhood plate lunch spot. Would we make the drive all the way from Ewa Beach just for this? Probably not. But if we're already in the area, we'd absolutely stop by again. One last heads up... if you're planning to dine in, be prepared to leave smelling like the fryer. The ventilation could definitely use some help.. we all went straight to the shower when we got home!

Parking was not easy, my husband just dropped me off and picked me up because there were no spots nearby. Overall the food was good, easy and priced well. We definitely need to support the small mom and pop local spots or they will disappear completely in Hawaii. It's a small grab and go window, but perfect for picking up lunch on a workday or grabbing a quick plate to hit the beach. Parking can be difficult, but that's pretty common for this area.
