    Appetizer combo
    Kim V.

While I was living in Rhode Island, I really took for granted how good the Chinese food was there; especially after moving to South Florida. Islander has been at this location for many, many years. I've always enjoyed their food. It's a spacious Chinese restaurant with good service. I was there recently with friends for dinner. I started off with the single size scorpion bowl; it was strong and delicious. We shared crab rangoons, which were up there with one of my favorites; it was 5 stars alone. For my meal, I had the appetizer combo which comes with boneless spare ribs, Islander wings, teriyaki, and pork fried rice. My favorites were the Islander wings, it was in a sticky dark sauce that was sweet and the wings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The space ribs were decent and my least favorite were the teriyaki sticks; it lacked some flavor. Overall, food, drinks, and ambiance, I would give them 4.5 stars total.

I wanted to take a moment and write about my experience this past Saturday the 3rd of January. I helped my friend coordinate his wife's 60 th birthday party. First, I will start with the food was delicious!!!!! They allowed us to come in when they opened to decorate with no problem at all!!! Our wait staff Jordan went above and beyond!!!!! There were 50 plus people and she took care of us like a champion! She was so kind and attentive it was a pleasure to work with her! I would really recommend this restaurant to host an event!!! Can't say enough positive things about our experience.

Shrimp chow mien combo and wor hep har

My very favorite restaurant in RI. I have cravings for the Wor Hep Har all the time. It is shrimp wrapped in bacon, fried with a sweet and spicy red sauce over lettuce with white rice. It is addicting. Hubby had shrimp chow Mein combo. Drinks are wonderful here, all the great Polynesian cocktails and more. Large menu. Good, friendly service. Nice tropical decor.

The ambience inside is casual. I would of liked a little bit of background music but there was a crowd so that noise was good. The crab Rangoons were a bit different tasting. They were more savory than I am use to. The Wonton soup was served hot and was delicious. The Garlic sauce was a bit sweet but overall the food was good. Not the best Chinese food but good enough to come back and visit.

They serve the chicken raw here be careful for salmonella! Owner gave extreme difficulty when asking for refund.

This is one of my husbands favorite Chinese restaurants. Portions are good, staff is friendly, and the food is decent.

I don't understand the local hype for this place. This is some of the worst Chinese-American food I've ever had. The lo mein is cooked in this weird brown sauce, but dry af at the same time. All of the breading for the shrimp & chicken has zero flavor. Meat quality is a solid 4/10. The crab Rangoons were the only edible part of my meal, but they where on the sweeter side. Stay far away from this place. 1/10

Convenient and affordable. Food quality is okay - not the best in the world but great service especially for take-out orders.

Lunch specials are available daily and additional combination plates at a higher price are available all day. Interestingly, on these combos, rice is not a given, but you get two "side orders" from which you can use one for rice. Flexibility is good. -- Crispy Wontons: Small complimentary boat arrives before ordering as a welcoming gesture -- Hot and Sour Soup: A $6 small order gets you a pretty big bowl, filled with a thick, dark brown broth that's only slightly lumpy and is more than slightly spicy. If you like heat, this one's for you. If you like great quantity and variety of mushrooms and other floaties in your soup, maybe not-- limited in this aspect. Average to above average, depending on the above. -- Egg Roll: (on a combo) Interestingly crisp and bendy at the same time, with a moist interior of cabbage and little pork pellets that have the color and mouthfeel of #2 pencil erasers (don't ask). That said, quite tasty. I'm even going to say above average. -- Shrimp and Lobster Sauce (on a combo): HUGE props for the five pieces of fairly large and very nicely cooked shrimp hiding 'neath the surface in a separate bowl from the rice and app. At first glance, not much different looking from the soup. But there's ground pork sunk to the bottom (the sauce is much thinner than most) and LOTS of egg mixed in, so it's sort of a mishmash of Boston and New York styles for both flavor and texture while looking more like Boston. I'm not a fan of that much egg, or that thinness, but for those who are, this will be a treat-- especially given the portion size and the quality/quantity of shrimp. Above average for the right person. -- Pork Fried Rice: Slightly towards the dark end of the color spectrum and reasonably fresh and moist (aside from the pork nuggets) on a Sunday afternoon. No other add-ins (no onion, scallion, egg, bean sprouts). Mostly Rice-a-Roni flavor, with faint hints of the old time New England Chinese fried rice flavor. Average.

Han Palace is one of those places that you bring the family to every week, and they too have a die hard following in the community. And for good reason! You can find Keith there every day, always on the move. When I went, he was the one who took us to our table. I couldn't help by admire the art etched into the glass dividers in the restaurant, and the high backs to the booths allow you an intimate experience with your dining companion/s. While he was camera shy and didn't want to be in a photo (which I can respect) he was more than eager to share his thoughts on his crab rangoon! I mentioned he has quite the fan base for the appetizer and he shared with me that he workshopped his recipe for a bit before settling on what he serves today. For him, he doesn't like a strong fishy taste. Keith also freely shared his secret touches, white pepper and scallions. A note I will remember next time I make my own. When asked for a staff recommendation for what to have with our rangoon, the server suggested the General Tso's Chicken, one of their most popular dishes. Before long the food arrived and I was excited to see what the hype was all about. On first bite, what you immediately notice is these are GENEROUS on the filling. If you like a fat rangoon, this is going to be right up your alley. The taste is cream cheese forward, with the kani and scallions supporting characters to bring it all together. A small warning, be careful how you bite into these, the filling can squirt out!! Normally, I am the type to roll my eyes at ordering General Tso at a Chinese restaurant. It's like the Chicken Tikka Masala of Chinese food. However! I see why this is popular. The chicken was fresh, the slightly crispy texture holding up in the sauce. The sauce was tangy, just the right amount to evenly coat the chicken with some extra for the rice and a level of heat between mild and medium. The rice was a savory hearty base for the chicken. My quest for the best crab rangoon in Rhode Island brings me to the best places. I'm glad to have discovered this community icon, and look forward to my next visit!

Dim sum is usually a brunch thing, but we were in the area for a movie and just wanted dim sum for dinner. The two of us ordered the congee with shredded pork and thousand year egg, bok choy, salty shrimp, and off of the dim sum menu: steam rice roll with shrimp, chicken feet, oyster sauce duck feet, siu mai x2, shrimp chive dumplings, and Chinese tea. Forgot to take a photo of the siu mai even though that's our favorite. We also asked for hot mustard and chili oil sauce because that's how my family has eaten dim sum and that's how we now continue to enjoy dim sum. Everything tastes as expected. The chicken feet were nice and soft and fell off the bone. The dishes weren't too salty. The salty shrimp was as advertised--salty and crunchy. The congee is a large portion because it's mostly rice and water, but I just really wanted it and it did not disappoint. The tea could have been more flavorful, it was quite light. Despite that, the tea is still a diuretic. We did end up taking some food as leftovers. The customer service was really fast and polite! The interior is pleasant with interesting decor (a spear/halberd? mounted on the wall). The table partitions are pretty tall so you don't see the other customers if they're seated adjacent. It wasn't very busy when we went on a Wednesday evening, and parking is no issue at all here. Overall a good place to get some Chinese food whether you're a party of two or a party.
