I came back after many years because this place was the go to spot. Sadly the location near Metro Center closed so we came to this one. We got the fish tacos, pipeline burger and spinach dip! Pipeline is just how I remembered it but it is very messy. Spinach dip wasn't my fave and the fish tacos were yummy. Personally I wouldn't stray away from those two items. The service wasn't all that great and it was pretty warm inside, considering it's AZ and summer time.. wouldn't come back again but if you're in the area and you're in the mood for a burger or fish tacos, it's worth checking out! read more

Came in for Father's Day brunch when the wait at Cracker Barrel was over 2 hours. I was happy to be steered in this direction as our meal was delicious. Our burgers were delcious and the onion rings hot and crispy. Wish they would go back to bottomless fries, but I get it the covid thing screwed up the supply chain. This was my family and I first time eating. I have been dying to go here seen we moved into the neighborhood, and need I say it didn't disappoint! I had the Moa Crisp and my spouse had the Malibu burger and my daughter the Bleunimi my toddler had chicken tinder's (he didn't eat) The sandwiches were so good and tasty. I don't know if it was the tasty beer or the cheese fries, but I was highly impressed during my visit to Islands. I came here for happy hour with co-workers. We were seated at a large booth and our server came over right away to get our drink order. We wanted to try the beer flight, but they were out of the Sunny Blonde and didn't allow substitutes so I had the Mango IPA and my buddies had the Mango Cart (wheat ale). (It didn't negatively impact my experience but felt like a missed opportunity, Islands.) Our drinks came quickly and were icy cold. We all enjoyed the beer- the Mango IPA was surprisingly perfect. Great mango flavor backed by the hoppy IPA. Can I get it to go?? We started with the large basket of cheese fries, with a side of ranch and the server came out with ranch for each of us (greatly appreciated!). Hint- sprinkle the garlic/salt/pepper mixture on the fries, it really added the perfect flavor. We ordered a second round of drinks so naturally, we had to order the chicken tenders. For an app, the tenders were a really nice portion- 5 large tenders, served with ranch, bbq and Buffalo sauce. Our server was really on top of it, and we had a great time. We have been coming here for years and I'm happy that their customer service and food is amazing! Things now are a bit different with the Covid situation. You now use your phone to scan the QR code to get the menu on your phone. Every other table is blocked off so you're not close to the other customers. Staff wears masks as well. Now for their food, we usually get their burgers on wheat buns and they're delicious! My husband likes to get his rare-medium and I like well done. They always cook it to perfection. Their fries are also good. Our kids like their kids meals from here as well. Their drinks are well made and never too strong/overpowering. There's plenty of parking and bathrooms are clean. This is one of my most favorite restaurants that I used to go to in San Diego. I like it so much that I drive 30 miles to the one in Avondale, just to have lunch occasionally. Food is fantastic and the service is great. The only thing that has really bothered me is that you can see into their kitchen and their floors are filthy - even when they just open up at 11 AM. So it's not like a days work that made the floor look like that. I thought maybe it was just a bad day somehow, but I went twice within two weeks. Looked the same. The rest of the restaurant is so clean but this is not a good l look for them when people can see right into the kitchen area. Saw The manager there talking to his employees but still walking right over this mess of grease and some spill. I try not to think about it anymore and I ate my salad. Definitely will be back but this is just a call out to the manager to make sure you take care of these kinds of things. read more

Why can't there be a location anywhere near our house? My partner and I are in the area maybe once a year but we still have our "go to" order. With Covid it has been years since hitting this place up sadly. Host very nice and welcoming, server incredibly sweet and was on top of refills 100% my usual is the Maui burger (sometimes I get a turkey patty) but this time all beef since I have been away for a while. I got wheat bread, Swiss cheese, mayo, tomato and avocado. Soooo flavorful and cooked perfect medium. My partner got the north shore tacos, spicy chicken, jack and cheddar, pico de gallo and lettuce. It has a very good flavor kick to it. We took my Mom this trip and she's been there a few times and has always ordered the tortilla soup (endless bowl) although she barely finishes one. Reason being is, the burgers are super fulfilling (not the average sized burger) they have options of white/wheat bun, since my mom is a vegetarian they can Substitute any burger of her choice with a veggie patty. They also have a vegan option as well! Was here about a month ago and it was good. Tonight was horrible. We ordered nachos and the chips were stale and chewy. Ordered Moa Crisp chicken sandwich and the bacon was so overdone, it was too hard to bite through. The chicken was also so overdone that it was dry and hard. The bun had a rancid butter smell to it. Fries, which are usually good, were cold. When we brought it to the waiter's attention, he took the basket we had and the cook threw them back in the fryer leaving them dry and hard. How can Islands fries not be good? Waiter was not real attentive, we had to ask the food runner for everything (ranch, mayo). Not a good night for Islands. read more

Haven't had Islands in a few years and decided to go in because I remember it being so good! It did take a lil while to get served but once we got our food , it was really good and fresh. Their menu is a decent size and I really want to try a lot of items they had on there. The truffle fries were good but were a little over powering in flavor and I got over that after like 5 fries so I'll probably skip those in the future . Only reason I'm giving them a four star is because the fries we got were pretty hard and way to well done. Looking forward to going back and asking for lightly cooked fries lol! read more

Update 10/21/19 So as I stated in my past review I do like this place and have been many times. Last time I was not thrilled, This time felt better but still off. I think I will be checking who the bartender is before I choose to sit in the bar. Stopped in for lunch with my employees. I tried the Northshore Tacos. They were really good and tasty. The black beans that came on the side were a little bland and required extra salt, but the tacos were good, not too spicy even though it says spicy chicken on the menu. Since we had a birthday in our group we found out she got a dessert for free and the Kona Pie she opted for was really good. This place is good. Not a bad place for lunch. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly and on it with drink refills, and the food is not bad either. Our waitress was tending the bar as well and she was great! I was really impressed. We grabbed the Island Nachos as a starter and I highly recommend you do the same. They are so good! You will not regret this decision. My son ordered a burger with ghost pepper fries snd holy cow heads up you will get your money's worth with the fries they give you a ton. I ordered the kobb salad with chicken and it was good. Went to Islands for my birthday on 3/31. I've been a patron of Islands for about 25 years. My wife and I just moved to AZ, and this was our first time at the Avondale restaurant. We got seated without waiting. The food and service were great. This is one of my favorite restaurants in CA. We went to Islands at least once per month, sometimes more often. The Islands deep fried fish tacos are great. I also really enjoy the Kilauea burger. I definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Island's fine burgers & drinks restaurant delivered their promise on fine burgers & drinks, and not fine as in ok but fine as in fantastic! I got the Hawaiian burger (teriyaki and pineapple) and had an egg thrown on top (inside) for one buck and it was super messy but amazingly worth it. I also really enjoyed my lava flow which was also topped with a fresh wedge of pineapple. The blue cheese garden salad was super tasty was well and the French fries were desirable as well. My family enjoyed their meals also and we had great customer service from our waiter yesterday. I really wish I could remember his name to give him credit. Anyhow, 10/10, would recommend! read more

I hope others have had a better experience. I hate to say... we will never be back. We've tried this place 3 times and the service is seriously lacking. I don't know if it's the servers or their process. Each time we sat at the bar. Each time we intended to order food but it took so long once we got our drinks to place an order - even once our drinks were gone - to get someone's attention. I don't think there's a bartender or a server assigned to the bar area. I can't figure it out. By the time we were ready to leave, it was 10 minutes before we could get anyone's attention to cash out. What is happening? It would honestly be easier to wine and dine at the bar than to respectfully pay the tab and leave. read more

I got the chicken burger today, it is pretty good. Grilled, juicy, and cooked just right. The fries are always hot and crispy. The wait for the food took a little longer than normal, but I know they are very busy. Bummer our service this time was a totally miss. At first she was great, check came took our drink order and food at the same time (we were ready). She checked on us after our food arrived and we ever saw her again until the bill. We both were so thirsty, NO REFILLS. She offered us later that she can bring our refills in a to go cup. We have driven by Islands for years but never tried them. We were out as a family with a friend along for company, and she said Islands was great. So, that's where we went! The atmosphere is pleasant and the service was fine. We were kept loaded with water, and my husband had Kilt Lifter beer. My son is autistic and only eats tortilla chips or potato chips at restaurant. Fortunately, Islands serves up chips and salsa--and whoa, was it a lot of chips! Hooray! I had the China Coast salad. I asked for the dressing on the side, and they obliged. It was an excellent salad. The flavors worked really well. My husband had the Chicken Hoisin Bowl with some fries at the side. He liked the food quite well, but praised the fries in particular. My friend had the Shorebird lunch special and really enjoyed it. We found a new restaurant to enjoy as a family! read more

We were excited to get to a Islands as it has been a few years and we usually enjoy this place. The decor and ambiance with the birds is usually a favorite for our kids. Unfortunately this was our last visit. Many issues ranging from stale chips and canned salsa, one burger had to be done three times to get right. Big wave was ordered as a veggie patty and showed up as a Turkey burger. 35 minutes later and showed up incorrect again. At this point everyone else was finished and/or food was cold for this that waited. Service was non existent and constantly had to wave another server down for refills or to order. Kicker was they made it sound like they were helping by taking the burger off the ticket that was late but actually charged us for an additional burger. After speaking with the manager it was resolved but defiantly too much of a hassle to eat there again with so many good burger places in the valley.
