Do not bring your pet here under any circumstances! they were so un-attentive & had no hospitality or compassion towards my puppy. I waited for almost 3 hours to finally see the vet Dr.Matt Siclari for less than 5 minutes which resulted in a $300 bill & being sent home with 2 prescription pills for my puppy without instruction. On top of that, when I got home I realized they gave me the wrong nex guard prescription dosage, which could have overdosed my puppy!!!! They gave me a prescription for dogs 24 to 60 pounds and my puppy is barely 15 pounds!! Shame on them. There are much better options avoid this place at all costs, especially for emergencies!!! We have been bringing our animals for years. It's not so much the vets themselves...it's the front. The older receptionist that sits in the back. I have seen her treat others like crap...and now it's been done to me. Highly unprofessional and very mean. Others have warned me about her. She has no awareness or care to even pretend to be warm and compassionate. I just don't think she cares enough. Even when she knew she was not in the right...she gets even more defensive and cruel. Just over 11 years ago when I first began using Islip Animal Hospital for my dogs & cats on recommendation from a friend who worked here they were great. Eight years ago is when they began the downward slide...first a vet mistakenly told me my new kitten was already spayed...well, she got out by accident 3 weeks later, came home 2 days later pregnant. Still giving them the benefit of the doubt, we continued to use their services for our pets. For the most part after that no issues until 2020 - new vets replaced several whom left the practice and lots of new misdiagnoses- starting with my dog Staci's ear infections- they kept telling me it was middle ear infections and the way they treated it was supposedly packing her ear with a month worth of antibiotics but sent no medication home. Eventually because of this the pain and itch caused her ear to blow up like a balloon filling with blood and puss - after they drained her ear twice they decided to do surgery on her ear. Several times during these visits I made mention of a lump forming on her stomach by her left thigh - two different vets both said it's nothing to worry about just a fatty lump common with larger senior dogs. After the surgery she continued to have ear infections, this time I did some research of my own and discovered it was not a middle ear infection at all - based on her symptoms it was a yeast infection which should have been obvious to the vets based on the brownish discharge and horrendous odor and with some help not from these vets but from friends whom had similar experiences with their own dogs found out the cause was an allergy to chicken- something also her vets should have also been able to figure out. So I cured her infection on my own but fast forward to 2023, this time she's limping and moving kinda sluggish so bring her in for a check up, same two female vets couldn't find anything wrong but said she had a touch of pancreatitis so they injected her with some pain meds & an anti nausea medicine (mind you each time they supposedly gave her medicine or done any testing it was in a different room which only employees are allowed), again I mentioned the now much larger lump on her stomach and it was dismissed as nothing, sent her home but was told to bring her in if she didn't improve within a couple of days- three days passed she didn't get better, worse actually, spoke to the vet she said give it two more days if no better call front desk to let them know we're bringing her in. She got worse, called front desk they gave me a hard time about bringing her in, no appointments for 10 days available- even though vet said bring her in. So again I began researching and found out how to get my dog healthy again on my own. Took a month but Staci recovered and was herself again no thanks to the Islip Animal hospital. Now it's December of 2024, Staci begins exhibiting same symptoms of the pancreatitis again. This time my home treatment efforts weren't helping so call this place despite being fed up with them, nope sorry can't see you until December 27th (this was on Dec 14th), we don't really care that your dog isn't eating and cannot walk. Ask to speak to a vet for some advice "sorry they are all busy we'll have one call you later" - no call ever came. December 16th my dog is so sick she can't move, and no answer at IAH, bring her to an emergency vet and that's when we learned that so called "nothing to worry about" lump on her stomach was a tumor which burst. Her abdomen was filled with toxins, it was so bad they couldn't do anything for her except put her to sleep. If they were doctors for humans, I'd be able to sue for malpractice but vets aren't held to the same standard as doctors are. I may not be able to sue this practice but I will tell everyone I know to not take their dogs or cats to this horrible place. read more

I am so very disappointed in Islip Animal Hospital. As an Islip resident, I have used them for two decades. I went there with my 2 pups for a well-checkup, vaccines, and stool sample, we met with Dr. Lions. She was pleasant but went into a lengthy explanation of all the vaccines for the next year of the puppy's life. Upon examining the $320 bill I see they double-charged me for the "office visit" rather than charging one fee for both dogs as I've received in the past. A $150 charge for two small dogs, who were there for checkups/vaccines for 15 minutes time, is ludicrous. They should be ashamed of themselves. The reception girl with the cheek piercings and vibrant colored hair buns, was quite rude when I questioned why I was double charged. Her explanation was it was at the discretion of the doctor. So for an extra $75 charge, Islip Animal Hospital lost a long-term client. It's never pleasant to feel like you've been overcharged or mistreated by a business you've been loyal to for years. Twins Vet in Bayshore has better prices, a cleaner environment, with professional staff that makes you feel like family. I will be their client from now on. read more

Appalling attitude from the receptionist at the front door. I made an appointment for a new pet and was given a time to arrive at the business. I arrived 15 minutes early only to be told by the receptionist that as we were bringing a new pet, I need to leave and call in to the vet with details (she didn't elaborate as to which details). When I started to explain that we were long-term customers - who had previously called and explained that we would be registering a new pet at their facility, and that we ALREADY HAD an appointment for our initial physical exam (which SHE had set up for us) - madam promptly yelled at me, and I quote... "don't say no!" (At no point did I) "You need to go away and call in the details!" I drove off (in the general direction of "away"), disgusted, exhausted, and shaking my head as to what exactly my appointment was for, if not for the registration and intake of a new animal at their facility. We will now be going elsewhere. However, if the owners read this, please know that It's not good business to have a human barrier at the front desk. And this is exactly what you have (feel free to read the other reviews). Many years of prior good service (by the veterinarians and techs) have been tainted by this harridan! read more

I've used them 3 times and I think they're great. They even squeezed me in when my little chihuahua had pancreatitis on a Saturday. They made room even though they were jammed packed . It would have cost me a fortune if I had to go to emergency on sunday . The little guy is doing good and I'm so thankful. Most of all the constant smiles are what really helped me calm down from being in a panic mode. To bad they cant subscribe anti anxiety meds for the parents. Lol . I had been a client of Islip Animal Hospital for over 20 years. Dr. Fischer, Dr. Young and Dr. Conway were the best. The front desk was always friendly. Dr. Fischer, Young, and Conway retired. I always trusted them , they saved my Akita and were kind and compassionate. They always had spaces open to fit people in if needed. Since the new crew took over not anymore. I called one day about my cat who had a urinary problem, they told me they couldn't see her until next week. They told me to go to an emergency hospital when my cat had already been treated for the problem before at Islip. I was so upset I will never go there again. A client of over 20 years treated like dirt. Dr. Fischer was the best doctor ever. He's gone and the hospital has gone to pot. Don't go there. read more

Putting my dog to sleep by these people was so opposite of peaceful that I will have nightmares for the rest of my life. They took her from me to get a catheter in her so I could be with her when she passed. They couldn't get a catheter into my 17 year old feeble blind deaf dogs leg so with 4 people in the room the poked at every leg for 45 minutes. Nothing to calm her just 4 strangers poking at her. When I saw her next she was soaking wet and had bandages on all 4 legs. She was shaking uncontrollably and then they put her to sleep while I pet her for the last 5 minutes of her life. So let me start off by saying if it wasn't for my pets amazing doctor I WOULD BE GOING ELSEWHERE! The front desk women darker hair with a raspy voice (MANAGER) is the rudest person I've met in my life and for no reason. My dog suffers from severe allergies and all I wanted was for the doc to call me so that I can figure out what else to give him until his script was filled. She says no were understaffed and overbooked like I'm sorry what? Luckily I called back hours later and spoke with a very nice lady and she put me on the list. Next day, I called to get the price of his script and again (MANAGER) being rude. So I confronted her and said why do you feel like you need to be nasty because of you my dog suffered more because SHE would take my number down. I started getting irate which this women's attitude brought out. SHE HANGS UP THEN I CALL BACK AND SHE SEES MY NUMBER AND HANGS UP ON ME AGAIN!!!! So I said let me speak to the supervisor she goes I am!!!!! I was appalled and disgusted at the fact not only is she a worker but the manager so I said let me speak to your boss then and I asked if it was one of the docs she goes maybe!!! LIKE MAYBE REALLY. Our family has been bringing several pets here for years. Dr. Fisher is excellent but retiring soon. The replacement vets are far from his caliber. Most recently we lost a pet. The new vet at Islip failed to do a complete physical exam, our pet was in pain for months without a diagnosis. She ordered a battery of expensive tests and still no progress. When it came down to it an emergency animal hospital diagnosed our pet within 5 minutes by doing a simple rectal exam. At that time it was too far gone. If that isn't bad enough the staff answering phones are extremely rude. When we get another pet we will be seeking care elsewhere. read more

Had a great experience bringing my cat Ollie for a routine check up. He met Dr. Young who was absolutely terrific and really treated my cat gently and with great care. She did a great job calming him down and with the examination and shots. The staff were all friendly and prices are quite affordable. Check up, claw trimming and some booster shots for only $160. They even gave Ollie a new toy when we left! Definitely recommended for pet care and looking forward to visiting again next year. read more

On April 6th 2019, I unfortunately left this hospital with a broken heart and empty hands. I had to say good bye to my best friend after 16 years. Chief was a German Shepard Mix who lived an amazing life surrounded by his family. He was a Big Brother to my two sons and daughter. My loving friend grew old and was starting to have some urinary incontinence issues, strokes,distibular disease. When I first brought him here in 2018 it was due to two prior strokes. I met with one of the vets whom made me aware that the life we would provide for chief at this point was more about the quality of life he will be living. He was very kind and direct. Chief was very scared and honestly did not want to be assessed at this visit. Which the Dr. respected. So we went home and we catered to him and gave him SOME TLC. Roughly a a year later he began to feel ill again, encouraging us to bring him back to Islip Animal Hospital. From the moment I called, they were able to fit me in the schedule on a weekend. Unfortunately, I had mentally prepared myself for this day. As much as I did not want to admit to it, I knew my best friend was giving up and there was a possibility I'd have to put him down. My intentions were even though I knew, I wanted to know what else could be done. I believe I met with Dr. Cummins. When we entered the examination room Chief this time allowed himself to be assessed. Maybe it was the pain, perhaps the familiarity or just that he knew it was his time. Dr. Cummins explained to me all possibilities of what can be done. He said to me what was it that I wanted him to do for me. What treatment plan did I want to make for chief. It was all in my hands. In the nicest way that I could ever agree to allow my friend to be pain free, he offered the last resort from what was his words "just fall asleep". We talked for over an hour on my decision and not once did I feel rushed. He explained to me every possible scenario I can choose and then each process that was going to happen and when. I know how backed up you can get dealing with a patient in the medical field; I not once felt rushed or felt like they needed that room. As I patiently waited for each step to happen, I desperately cried my eyeballs out lonely and so sad. I was allowed to stay with my friend for as much time as I needed. The two wonderful receptionist consoled me at the while explaining to me the costs and the following steps thereafter. I'm so taken back at the level of great service they provided for me and Chief that day. I later received a heartfelt letter of sympathy from their office. Today, I received a voicemail that Chief cremated body was available or pickup in the most genuine form. I appreciate that whole heartedly since I am still mourning my best friend. I never knew how hard a loss like this would be, but Islip Animal Hospital has made my experience a little easier to cope with his loss. No other place I believe in my heart could have done better. So thank you Islip Animal Hospital. Please continue to think with your hearts as this is the way to spread love in such field. Your job is important and appreciated. read more

What Happened Dr. Fisher? I have been going to Islip Animal Hospital for 30 years..We have owned several dogs (once 5 at a time), rabbits, cats and Dr. Fisher has always been their vet. Yesterday I called, my 11 year old dog (with a history of a heart issue) was very lethargic, wouldn't eat...couldn't get him up. I called Islip Animal Hosp, as always and asked if they could squeeze me in, their reply "no", I asked how about tomorrow? My dog has a possible heart condition, "no" we are fully booked up. I suggest you contact the 24 hour emergency clinic. REALLY? SERIOUSLY? How disappointing. After 30 years of loyalty and trust, you just ditch your pet "family"... Disgusting and disappointing. I have been going to this animal hospital for over 20years because the vets are good. Problem is there is an extremely nasty receptionist there that you have to deal with. Yesterday after dealing with her and her rudeness, I finally had enough. She cuts you off as you speak, she jumps down your throat and is just so nasty. absolutely horrible! our german shepherd puppy had growing pains which they were treating with steroids. his symptoms were on and off, just recently he had a bad relapse with the pain and instead of diving deeper they kept him for only a few hours and sent him home. he then died 12 hours later! he wasnt even treated properly and never should have came home. i've spoke to other vets and they all said bloodwork should've been done earlier to see why nothing was changing, but instead waited till it was too late to find out something else was going on with the dog. and heres the best part they charged us 500 dollars for the dog to pass away the next day and have the audacity to say we cant refund you that money. absolute disgrace i will never ever use them again our puppy was only 7 months old and shouldve never passed away. read more

She didn't want to answer my questions and had an attitude the entire phone call. This is not the way to speak to anyone. I was very vulnerable while my dog was so obviously dying and willing to spend whatever it took to keep him alive. Dr. Fischer was candid and said he could continue treatment (as my bill would increase) but I would not get the results I was praying for. How dear of him to put my dog and me before himself. I brought my 7 yr old cat in for a foul odor & oozing from a wound. The Dr. sends me to the waiting room & hands me a $700 estimate for surgery to remove an Abscess where another cat must have scratched him in a fight. I told her I was against anesthesia & operating so they cleaned the wound & gave him a shot of antibiotic and said to keep cleaning it & keep him in. Why wasn't I offered that remedy first? Why would I agree to a surgery without trying this less costly & less stressful plan first? This makes me wonder if the bottom line here is Money or the wellbeing of my Pet. read more

I have been bring my dog and 2 cats to Islip for 6 years now. I have had pets before these 3 and went to many other vets in my area (Sayville) A friend of mine recommended Dr Fischer and Weingarten. I can only say that my 6 years so far has been nothing but a good experience. Both vets are very knowledegable, professional and super compassionate. Their prices are competitive, sometimes the medication was even equal or lower than discount mail order places that I would order from. The entire staff is very helpful and pleasant. First appointment with Dr. Fischer was good. Needed to go in for emergency a week later and had to see someone else. They put me in an exam room that was just emptied from a previous patient and didn't clean exam area (this also happened the first visit and I remember cleaning it myself also). I vowed never to go back after I was rushed out of the room after I put the dog i grew up with to sleep. A woman burst into the room saying sternly "we have other patients".I begged for more time and said if she wanted to charge me they could. I just wanted to say goodbye to my best friend. Instead i got a roll of the eyes and a door slammed. The Dr is ok but the white trash he has working the office well they could do a better job. We lived down the road from Islip animal hospital which if you been here is a busy road, and our 5 month old pit bull was hit by a car on that very road and thrown 30ft, Islip was the closest animal hospital so we rushed him over to them we did not have much money at the time and we feared we were going to lose him. Islip was great from the start they rushed him right in and took x-rays we waited shortly prior to the doctor coming in. luckily there was no internal injuries just a fractured pelvis. They kept him for 3 days treated him and sent us home with medication. THEY TOOK HIM WITHOUT US EVEN PAYING! can you believe that? we had a bill of $700.00 (after talking to the doctor we were made aware of the cost which in my opinion was a fantastic and affordable price) but they did not take a dime from us when we first walked in we paid on the day we picked our Louie up. I've had a vet turn me away once for not be able to pay the full balance of 1,000 bill prior to them even treating my dog. so I will never forget them for this, maybe it was because I lived just down the road either way I would highly recommend. read more
