Everything was excellent. We came on a Thursday night that featured lively jazz band - they played great music that wasn't loud and overpowering like at other local spots. The service was excellent from the check-in (we didn't have reservations), to the hostess, to the server. It was excellent. Our server was friendly, she was helpful, she was thorough. She kept checking on us to make sure we were OK. Our food came out quickly, hot, fresh and delicious. We had the pork chop dinner and the shrimp/fish dinner, along with peach cobbler. What a welcome change! Apparently the three years has done this establishment good. Bravo!

Two thumbs up on everything food related! From the Margarita to the steak and cheese to the sweet potatoes to the lemon cake. Absolutely NO complaints. Would most def order again. Probably won't need to dine in again but definitely looking forward to carry out. Check out the pics of all of our entrées. Hoping you can share a similarly pleasing experience. Down Home…read moreComfort Café Soul Food would be the prime example The second we walked in, we felt welcomed by Jessica's amazing energy. She took us through the menu and explained how to order via the QR code. It's a small place with a few tables, bar seats, and a tiny kitchen. The whole time we were there people kept coming in for take out orders so we thought we might have to wait a while, but the food came out pretty fast considering. The food was amazing, I was brought back to my husband's grandma's table. You could taste the kitchen's soul in the food and let me tell you, it's warmth, love, and joy. We had the chicken and waffles, burger, catfish and grits, smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, fries, and corn bread and everyone cleaned up their plates. My husband and kids devoured the brownie trifle as I tried to protect the bread pudding like gollum his ring. We came in strangers, we left feeling we had found our home away from home. Thank you Jessica, we'll be back sooner than you think.

I love bread pudding, but this one just wasn't my favorite. It wasn't bad it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. The café itself is small, cozy, and welcoming. They have a small bar area, indoor seating, and a customer restroom that's tucked away in the back. When I stopped in, there were several people dining in, and it had a relaxed, homey atmosphere. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Down Home Cafe, especially if you're looking for a comforting brunch or a laid-back Sunday meal. I'll definitely be back for those chicken and waffles! Oh! Open parking!

So I said why not, and stopped here on a weekday (today) around 1:30pm. I ignored the fact that the tables and chairs outside the entrance were in disarray and walked inside. I looked around, noticing first a narrow hallway to my right with one small table and a snack bar. To my left were two more small tables. Loud music of an unrecognizable genre was blasting away. I was the only customer. It didn't look promising, but I figured I could order something and take it home. I looked up at the electronic monitor to see if there was a menu, but it just was displaying an outdoor scene. Then I noticed a woman sitting in the corner on a stool intently fiddling with her phone. She looked up, her face as blank as a refrigerator door and muttered something unintelligible (and certainly not welcoming) and pointed to the counter. She then went back to playing with her phone. Oh no you don't treat customers like that, and think you are going to make a sale. I left immediately, never to come back. Just a totally inhospitable ambience.

I stumbled upon Milk and Honey Cafe, intrigued by its menu featuring Southern staples like chicken and waffles and biscuits. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was warm and welcoming. And if you know anything about soul food spots, you'll know that sometimes a low-key or even gruff welcome is a sign the food's about to blow your mind, so the friendly vibe had me both surprised & optimistic. I ordered the cheese egg biscuit sandwich, which came in at $10. Let me tell you, the portion size was generous, definitely enough for two meals. The biscuit was fluffy, buttery, and had just a touch of sweetness, which paired perfectly with the savory cheese eggs. I always ask for cheese eggs when I eat out, and most places miss the mark. Not here. They got it exactly right. Coffee-wise, it was simple: basic drip with International Delight creamer. Nothing fancy, but honestly, it hit the spot and fit the vibe. The ambiance really sealed the experience. A smooth R\&B playlist floated through the space, adding to the cozy, feel-good atmosphere. It was a refreshing contrast to the more sterile, minimalist coffee shops I'm used to back home in Sacramento. All in all, Milk and Honey Cafe delivered on food, flavor, and feeling. If you're in the Alexandria area and craving soulful comfort food with a solid vibe, this spot is a must.

It was so tender and flavorful, literally falling off the bone. The curry goat as well was incredibly good, very tender and a lot of meat. Rice and peas was the best side I tried. Menu was super straightforward and easy to understand, even for someone who has never eaten Jamaican food before. It's extremely clean and professional inside, very welcoming. And prices are very reasonable, especially considering the size of the portions. Would definitely suggest getting the oxtail with rice and peas and some sort of vegetable for the best all around eating experience. I then waited another 45 minutes for the food and was told it would take an additional seven minutes - -turned into 20mins for the beef patty. The restaurant clearly has high customer traffic, so I hope the food is good enough to justify the excessive wait. However, the lack of communication, urgency, and any attempt to compensate for the delay made the overall service experience extremely disappointing. Food satisfaction: Pending.

My senses were already tingling with the above characteristics of heaven's food. I definitely was not ready for what I was about to indulge in. The catfish paired with their garlic buffalo fried to perfection, the wings glazed in Vick's special sauce fried to perfection. Mac N Cheese so cheesy and seasoned you can't look at other Mac N Cheese the same. Jasmine rice so good you think an asian made it. Sipping it down with their true sweet tea makes a one two punch of soul flavors. Every order is made on the spot and even with a crowd already forming you know it's worth the wait. Which while you wait they kindly let you listen to some fire music from their speaker. It's safe to say I will be back.

I was a little disappointed at 1st because they wouldn't take my order though IG dm because I didn't want to go order and wait but honestly it was Definity worth the wait because the food taste and texture was top tier even better then a lot of of other soul food restaurant. Update the next day went and got more food on Sunday. Location/ Ambiance 5/5 - Food truck in random parking lot with 1 building that supposed to get turn into the restaurant in couple of months. The truck and seem nice and clean from me looking in. Food 5/5 - Amazing, I couldn't sleep all night because I want more and normally it take me couples of weeks to write review. Deluxe platter 5/5 - $34 One lobster tail, Couple Shrimps and Catfish or Whiting of choice plus 2 side. - Omg heaven in my mouth, the seafood was nice and crispy and thinly coated in crispy batter full of flavors. It honest can feed 2 person the amount you get. It was so good I had to pull over at an empty parking lot. The lobster and Shrimp was cook perfectly and not over cook. The catfish was lovely as well and i love that they use real catfish and not swai fish . Side: Mac cheese 5/5 - perfectly Chessy and cream with right balance of cheese and perfectly al dente macaroni Side: Candie yam 5/5- Sweeten my soul and comforting not overly sweet and went you put in your mouth the aromatic is amazingly Side: Collard Green with turkey 5/5- Fill with savory flavor and Side: Seafood pasta salad 5/5 - Omg it was delicious and actually have crab meat in it not imitation with shrimp. Side: Rasta Pasta 5/5 - This is so good it should be turn into an entree as well. Creamy spice alfredo sauce with penne pasta. It so good even better then cheesecake factory Cajun pasta Side: Cabbage 4.5/5- Amazing buttery flavor cabbage. I am not sure if they over cook it or maybe I reheat for too long because it was a tad bit too soft for me. I like it too not overly over cook, but flavor was on point comforting Turky Chilli $5 - I am not a Chilli girl because I don't like bean but for some reason, the way they make it so good, and they don't put too much bean bit fill with flavor will out being oily Jerk Chicken with 2 side $20- 5/5 Omg i love that they don't use the cheap part of the chicken like drumstick. The wing didn't have grill flavor aroma like you normally get with Jerk chicken but oh the flavor was packing with a hint of spiciness, but the meat was soft and falling of the bone it was amazing with yellow rice. It safe enough for peoples who don't eat spicy. Chicken Curry with 2 side over jasmine rice $20 5/5- Ok this one threw me off the loop went I first open the box. I thought it was curry chicken with potatoes and carrot, but it had chickpea instead. I was nervous it wasn't going to be good but I was truly wrong. It was perfect combo, full with turmeric flavor and chicken boneless meat. It was savory an addicting Banana Pudding $6- I cry eating this in bed it was heavenly perfect bring back memories of ex grandma banana pudding. It was so good and not overly too sweet like magnolia or wegman banana pudding. I hope one day I can ask them to just make me a tray to devour on a weekend. The banana was fresh and a wafer had crunch Lastly, I got lemon cake, it was divine and not overly sweet with great lemony flavor. Overall I hated that I love this place because I was going to start my new year diet. I can't find nothing negative to say about the foods. You can taste the love they put in the cooking to fill the soul. I will probably be coming back every week
