I was there last week (8/27/26) and tried the Menemen instead of my usual donner baguette. The owner's wife served me and I had the menimen, a coke (I had too much coffee already) and a sobiyet for dessert. I had seen someone a couple of months ago eating the menemen and she recommended it. The Menemen came in a brass serving dish bubbling hot and smelling wonderful with a nice piece of toasted baguette on the side. The dish has peppers, onions, tomatoes, two poached eggs and lots of cheese and spices. It was absolutely delicious, I can't quite identify the spices, but the whole dish was tasty and filling. I would have licked the dish clean if I were at home, but I wasn't going to embarrass myself in public. This will be my new brunch item in the future. Sobyiet is baklava with a creamy cheese filling and I could eat 6 or 7 if I wasn't watching my weight. Normally, I would have turkish coffee but as mentioned earlier I already had too much coffee at home that AM. I like to eat here about once a month when I'm in the area and I love the place. The people there are very pleasant and helpful and will offer samples. Many of the other patrons are Turkish and go there with children for brunch. Eating here made me want to go to Turkey to eat food there. Did notice that the pide came in a plastic wrapping, so they just reheat it. But it was good thanks to the cheese. Got beef borek (yummy while hot), orange juice (seems like it's from real oranges), and a pistachio chocolate bar. Service was fast as it was right after they opened in the morning. Both owners, Marla and Soner, were extraordinarily kind and helpful. This was our first visit to an all-Turkish Cafe and Bakery in Denver, CO. The Turkish coffee we purchased--served with a Turkish delight, was a unique and delicious experience, with a lovely presentation. My partner enjoyed the savory pastry: Ground Beef Borek (Filo dough, ground beef, spices)--he mentioned several times how yummy this was. Although there weren't any gluten-free pastries, we were informed that they use red flour--they have customers who have a slight tolerance to gluten and don't have an issue. **However, always ask your medical professional regarding if red flour is something you can tolerate with your gluten allergy (unfortunately, I have celiac disease). Istanbul Cafe did have a few breakfast items with eggs and stewed tomatoes that were gluten-free (minus the side of bread) if you are also wanting to purchase food with your coffee. When we shared that we are planning to visit Turkey, Marla was beyond knowledgeable regarding places to see and areas to stay. My iced coffee was really good! Sweet and delicious. I had the Sucuk and Eggs. The eggs were well done but that sausage and the fresh bread were absolutely delicious. I would come back for the sausage alone. The Pistacio Kunefe was warm, sweet, and different from anything I've ever tasted. No shade to a breakfast burrito or trendy spots but I really like how different this place is. They do things traditionally with attention to detail. A week ago, I came across a documentary about bread. It featured a Turkish staple, simit. Eagerly, I googled 'simit,' and Istanbul Cafe and Bakery popped up in my search. Within minutes, I was driving towards their Northwest location off Zuni. I like trying one item when encountering a new restaurant/cafe to ensure I like it. And after ordering a Simit, I was very intrigued by their menu. I made a mental note to stop by for breakfast one day soon. Fast forward to today, the 20th anniversary of my husband and I's union. I wanted to take him out for breakfast and immediately remembered Istanbul Cafe and Bakery. So, we decided to visit their Southeast location off Monaco since it was near other places where we wanted to run errands. Fortunately, it wasn't too packed; there was plenty of seating. We placed our order for a Mom's plate and a Dad's plate, along with two Turkish coffee services to start. The kind lady at the register offered to keep the tab open in case I wanted to try anything else. The wait for our order wasn't long; it was certainly fresh. The Mom's plate is quite big, shareable almost. The Dad's plate is similar to the Mom's plate without the added Simit and Su Börek (handmade egg noodle sheets layered and filled with Turkish white cheese and parsley, like a lasagna without the sauce). I definitely needed help with the Simit and Su Börek, though. The coffee was fantastic. I prefer a touch of sugar with mine, which was readily available on the table. The coffee service came with a treat, a lokum, also known as a Turkish delight, which is a soft, jelly candy that makes for a great palate cleanser. Before we left, we added a chocolate baklava (which I'm saving for dessert later today), and my husband ordered a Nutella Acma (Turkish croissant with Nutella) for a snack later. Everything we've had has been very delicious and fresh. The staff is especially welcoming and eager to answer questions and help their patrons familiarize themselves with their simple yet delicious menu. I saw this place from across the parking lot while stopping at the King Soopers last week and had to stop in. The cafe is clean and the display cases are full of scrumptious looking treats, both sweet and savory. The woman who helped me was really nice and gave a few complimentary samples to my son and I as well as to the man ahead of us when she learned that it was our first time in. I ordered 2 savory pastries- a potato stuffed and a spinach and feta stuffed. They were both good but I like the spinach and feta s little more because it was more flavorful. I also got a portion (3 pieces) of baklava and am so glad I dad- very yummy. I ordered sucuk and eggs. It was good but I hoped eggs would be sunny side up but they were scrambled eggs with sucuk so I couldn't dip my bread in the eggs. We also ordered pide with sucuk and egg. That was not like pides in Turkey so it was disappointing. We also ordered Turkish black tea. This is a good little place with very authentic Turkish food - don't let the location in a grocery store parking lot fool you. It's right off Leetsdale and Monaco, and they now have a couple of other locations too, which is good because it means they're doing well and growing. The food is very close to what we had in Turkey; I've now had all three meals of the day here, and all of them are just like what we saw on menus at the places we visited. They have a pretty legit Turkish breakfast spread, and then there's the sandwiches and wraps and pide and lahmacun and all the other great Turkish dishes. Oh, and there's a huge bakery component too, with lots of different varieties of baklava and other baked goods. You can come here for coffee and a pastry, or you can make a full meal here, but either way you should try it. read more

Finally got to try this place and oh my goodness! Walked into the Glendale location and warmly welcomed by staff who explained the menu and gave a sample of the borek. My hubby and I shared the Mom's breakfast plate and son had the grilled beef borek. We also tried the cold coffees and spiced tea. The mixture of goodies in the plate was just perfect, and even between us was plenty and was a healthy mix (I think). Iced coffees were lovely and our son enjoyed the beef borek. I've had this place bookmarked for months and finally got to try it this weekend. I'm already planning a return trip! First, the service was super friendly. The owner's daughter was working at the cashier area and gave us space to walk back and check out the pastries before ordering. She also gave us samples of the baklava and the su börek (the su börek in particular was good)! We settled on the spinach and feta börek and the beef börek with Turkish coffee. I was most excited for the veggie one, but was sad to find that it was mostly pastry -- I could hardly taste spinach or feta. The beef börek was the surprise hit! You could see once cutting into it that it had a lot more filling than the veggie börek, and the seasoning was so good! It tasted more like lamb than beef to me, perhaps because of the spices used. The Turkish coffee (I recommend it with sugar!) was a nice way to end the meal. I will be back to try more! read more

The service is always so personal, they love to help you try new things, and there are so many vegetarian options. The owner is so lovely and passionate about food. I recommend chatting with him if you can catch him!! My favorite items so far have been the manti dumplings, the spinach and feta borek, potato borek, su borek, carrot baklava, walnut baklava, and feta pogaca( poacha). I so wish there were more of a variety of cuisine near where I live! This cafe is excellent. Sigh... Denver has all of the cool places! We were somewhat inspired by a food blogger we were watching this morning to go and try Turkish food and decided to do a quick Google search to find a place that sold it reasonably close: cue Istanbul Cafe and Bakery! Nestled in a pretty big strip mall, finding parking was a breeze as there are a lot of restaurants and a King Soopers in the general vicinity. Walking in you can tell this place has a pretty tightly knit crew and has lots of roots in family traditions. It was surprisingly busy when we arrived right before the lunch hour! Every table was full, but by some miracle many of them cleaned up and cleared out before we got our food. Since it was the first visit I would like to note that the process of ordering was a smidge confusing at first - there is a screen with menu items offset from the register facing the dining area, but the register is in the front of the store, so unless you're familiar with the menu, keep that in mind. We were guided by a lovely lady to take a look at the menu (which she also described verbally), we were asked if we wanted samples, and then had chances to ask questions of any came up. Both my bf and I got the doner baguette and he also ordered a little piece of walnut baklava. The total initially came out to like $14 and change which was confusing, but we figured out that they'd only entered one sandwich into the system - an additional $12 or so later, we had our order in and found a little table near the back to sit at. A woman (who I didn't realize was an employee?) had us stand up after we'd already sat to wipe down the table and chairs; a nice gesture but a little awkward given the timing lol. One sandwich came out relatively soon after we sat and my bf was probably halfway through his sandwich by the time mine came out. I think it was honestly just a series of small miscommunications, so we were super understanding about the mixup. When I did get mine, it was very warm and smelled amazing. The meat was so tender and cooked very well; no big fatty pieces or overdone/burnt bits. The temp of the meat and bread paired with the refreshing veggies and greens in the sandwich was awesome and the flavors all complemented one another perfectly! It's very easy to recognize how fresh all of the ingredients are. The sandwiches are also pretty big, so if you're not ravenous then I'd bet it would be yummy as leftovers for another meal. The baklava was also amazing! I'm a huge fan of sweets and other baked goods so I would definitely want to come back and try many of the other items they offer. I was unfortunately unable to get a photo of the case that had all the baked goods because it was too crowded to get a clear shot by the time I was ready to take a photo, so I guess I'll just have to go back and get that the next time lol. The young woman at the counter walked us through everything they had, offered us samples, was just very, very helpful and sweet. And then the food. Everything was great! If I lived in Denver, I'm pretty sure I'd be here all the time. I love Turkish food (boreks and manti and Turkish coffee especially), and everything at Istanbul was a great version of a great dish.
