The lamb gyro was phenomenal. The babaganoush has that delicious roasted flavor. Serving size was very kind and Boyle Soda is available! They don't have lattes to go - that was slightly off putting but you can have Turkish coffee (don't add milk to this).

    Red lentil soup. Delicious

First to start there is ample parking. We came on a Sunday mid afternoon. Large dining area with tables spaced apart and not on top of each other. Very pleasant staff. Next up the food was awesome! Tasty, fresh and delicious! Started with red lentil soup (amazing), bread at the table was so good and fresh. Next we had hummus with pita chips (awesome) and then a large shepherd salad for the table! I could have one of those every day!! Also had the vegetable casserole; chicken sauté and chicken shish kebab. All extremely good and we will definitely be back.

Amazing meal, we ordered the chicken Adana with rice and it had so much flavor. The food was so fresh and the service was really great. The inside of the restaurant was also very clean. I love that there is a market right next door as well. We picked up some groceries and Dubai chocolate

Really enjoyed this well prepared Turkish food and comfortable ambiance. Came here with a party of 11 to celebrate Easter. Ordered a variety of apps and entrees, the most memorable and delicious being: assorted Turkish Pide, manti, Shepard's salad, mixed grill, lamb shank, lamb chops, Iskender, as well as Turkish coffee and milk pudding. The meat was super moist and flavored perfectly. Service was overall very friendly and good. Parking lot outside and large open space indoors to accommodate big parties were a plus.

Its English name comes from a Greek legend: Zeus had an affair with a beautiful woman named Io. When Hera, his wife, discovered his infidelity, she turned Io into a cow and created a horsefly to sting her on the rump. Io jumped clear across the strait. Thus, "bous" = "cow" and "poros" = "crossing place": Bosphorus = "crossing place of the cow." Located off of busy Franklin Avenue in Nutley, my partner, our friends, and I have decided on our dinner at this family-owned-and-run BYOB establishment, which has been open since 1995. A reservation was made for a party of 4 by calling their restaurant. Upon arrival after three years, we were welcomed by Nora, the owner, and made our way to a table by the piano inside, evoking a cozy, thoughtfully designed, upscale vibe with music playing softly. Their menu features Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine. For starters, we decided on the Puffed Rill Pastry and Grape Leaves. Our main meal consisted of all lamb dishes (Lamb Shish Kebab, Beyti Kebab, Lamb Chops, and Lamb Sauté). Our food was fresh, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection, accompanied by a beautifully presented dish. Everything was authentically made with love here. Wish we could have stayed for dessert, as they looked amazing, but some of us were in a rush. It's definitely on the higher end cost but worth the taste. Our visit ended with a hug and a piece of candy.

Turkish cuisine is a unique combination of flavors, spices, and herbs developed over thousands of years, influenced by the Central Asian nomads and Arabic, Persian, Italian, French, and Eastern European cultures. While New York has some great Turkish food if one knows where to look, most of it leaves some room for improvement. Could Jersey be better? The town of Carlstadt has mainly residential private homes, with a spattering of condos and garden apartments. The main shopping area is all of about three blocks long on both sides of the street. Translated from the Turkish language, meaning sultan, we have come to this family-owned/family-run establishment located on Hackensack Street since 2006 for Saturday dinner. The reservation was easily made by Google Assistant. Upon entering this hidden gem called Hünkar Restaurant as first-timers, my partner, our friends, and I were greeted by the staff inside a cozy room, where ethnic pictures and decorations as well as the music all add to the vibe. A great view of the NYC skyline is visible from their enclosed back patio. Their menu features Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine with a modern twist and serves alcohol. As an appetizer, we decided on the Kibbeh (Icli Kofte), Calamari (Kalamar), and Cigarette Borek (Sigara Boregi). For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Saute (Taouk Sote), Shrimp Kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab (Kuzu Sis Kebab), and Chicken Shish Kebab (Tavuk Kebab). All Kebab meal accompanied by rice, char-grilled tomatoes, peppers, and a small salad. Warm, fluffy pida bread with a crisp crust started our meal. Every dish bursts with authentic flavor and is beautifully presented, from the fact that Turkish families from all over the area eat here. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very professional; our server was Akincan "John," the owners' son. The price was comparable to the area with the right portion. We can recommend this place.

I would argue that Turkish helva is the superior form, better than its Levantine and South Asian counterparts, with a decadent superfine texture covered in oil, typically served with ice cream. The Turkish chain has now opened an outpost in Paterson, NJ, and while they use a bit more oil than I recall being necessary, it's such a pleasure to have access to this sweet again. The environs are a bit sterile inside, with an overuse of the color "mavi," so on a warm night, I'd instead recommend taking your helva to go for a stroll down Palestine way.

Part of that is staying up to date on the new spots in town. I had been watching them renovating and did a bit of research. I found that Helvaci Ali has a rich 100 year history and that this is their second US location. All of that was leading me to want to try it and then a coworker that I recommended Paterson to, returned the favor and told me how good Helvaci Ali was after he tried it. That was the push I needed to walk past my usual favorite dessert spot. (If you come to Paterson often, you'll have a favorite of everything) First things that hit me when I walked in with my daughter was the delightful air conditioning, followed by the stunning decor. Absolutely gorgeous navy blue, with decorative touches and great tables/seating. Next thing that we experienced was incredible service, super pleasant and accommodating staff. They provided samples of the helva and it was love at first bite! Pistachio is always a favorite. They made my daughter and I sundaes with pistachio helva, kunefe topping, and Turkish ice cream. So wonderful! The Turkish ice cream has a unique and lovely texture from a slight thickener that helps it stand up to the heat without melting quickly. That made it ideal for the sundae with the helva. What more can I say other than, add it to my list of Paterson favorites!
