I've had better customer service at the DMV. When I was mostly moved in, I had the pleasure of meeting a nice woman who moved here from New Orleans. She shared that she was moving out of a 10 x 15 unit. When I asked why, she said the initial cost was around $150, and in just 2 years they had raised it to almost $450 / mo. YES, you read that right. Now, I cannot verify her costs, but I can tell you that when I moved in to a 10 x 10 space, the cost was $89 / mo. In just over a year they have raised to cost to almost $200 / mo. More than double the cost in 1 year? After roughly 5 months it went to $134. This is a shame because I would have stayed in this unit for a decade. Based on my exponential calculations, the cost would be $102,400 / mo if they keep doubling it every year. I decided to get out. I met a nice couple when I moved out and mentioned the increases to them. The guy said to me, "Yeah, you need to move to a different unit every 6 months or you'll be in trouble." He was literally moving his boxes from one space to another one next to it. What? Maybe Public Storage Deerfield could have simply kept charging him the rate he was paying so he could avoid this hassle. I moved out a couple days into the month and had to online chat them since the 'on location' gentleman (who is nowhere to be found most of the time) told me he had to leave and go to the other location. He is never available, but suddenly became VERY available when I put a few things near the dumpster. He came up to me and said "Yeah there's no dumping in the dumpster. I saw you putting a few things there on my cameras." I replied, "I am a paying tenant right now." He said, "That's for me, not the tenants." Then he shared I would be charged $250 if I left the garbage by the dumpster. So I had to make another trip to gather that and take it away. He left and told me to close the account with chat since he didn't have time to do it. I cancelled with online chat and asked for a pro-rated refund for the remaining 27 days. They said no. I asked if there is anything they can do and they told me that it's in the contract, and they will not send any prorated refunds. Beware of this as well. You're better off finding a quality storage house that takes care of their customers and actually rewards them for paying and staying.

6 Year Update (Nov. 2023): This Public Storage location is still one of the nicest-maintained…read morebuildings I have used, with everything in good working condition and no signs of disrepair. The climate control always has the unit at a reasonably comfortable temperature all year round. I've seen no evidence of any kind of leaking (which I can't say about my previous X-Tra Storage unit in Wheeling and A.Smith's Storage in North Chicago). The large cargo elevators are in good shape, and move quickly and quietly between the 3 floors. There is a digital access panel that requires a code to enter the storage area. The dolly carts provided have seen a lot of miles, but are still all in good shape with no wobbling or weirdness. They also have hand trucks available upon request (along with boxes and packing supplies for sale). The facilities, along with the bathrooms and office, are always clean. I like that the entire facility is well lit, with motion-sensing lights in the hallway, and clear lines of sight through the halls. Police frequent the plaza that its in, and there are security cameras all inside and outside of the building, so it should be fairly safe at all hours. They state they're open Mon ~ Sun, 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, but I've successfully accessed my unit a little earlier and a little later. Any time I've run into staff, they're courteous and attentive. Price-wise, this location is fair. Shop online, and you can get some really good promotional rates. We got a 10" W x 5" D unit for $70 for the first year, and $100-ish after the year (we opted for our own insurance coverage, where we had to provide pictures and account info to Allstate). We wanted to use our own lock, but they made us use their lock at no additional charge. It's a decent quality Master no. 40 70mm discus-style padlock with hardened shrouded shackle, but a so-so 4 pin cylinder that's jiggle resistant but easy-ish for a journeyman to pick with the right tools and a few minutes. Fortunately, I don't have anything too valuable, otherwise I might insist on them allowing me use a better lock. Avoid coming here around 9am and 5pm. The Public Storage shares the plaza with several office buildings, and there's only one way in and out on Pfingsten Rd. for everyone. At 9am and 5pm, there can be a little bit of a traffic backup, as all those folks are commuting to and from the surrounding offices.

The unit was perfect in that it gave us a few days to clear and store the garage "stuff", plus storage time for the week or so after the garage floor project (during which we were supposed to keep the garage floor clean/empty). Less reviews than PODS but better price and exceptional unit quality. Customer service and communication was likewise flawless. Glad I went with UNITS. I did a lot of research to find the best value given the time and distance I needed the truck. When I called to clarify something, they were extremely friendly and helpful on the phone, and even offered a better price than listed on Penske's site. When I arrived to rent the truck, they were very welcoming and helpful, even allowing us to pick it up a couple hours early at no extra charge. No line, no waiting. The truck was clean and in good condition and they talked me through the various rental paperwork. I dropped off the truck in the evening and called a week later to stop by and pick up the final receipt. I assumed they'd be a little unhappy about having to dig out the receipt, but the guy on the phone seemed genuinely happy to help! When I picked up the final paperwork, the charges were clearly spelled out and there were no surprises. Moving yourself is a REALLY stressful process and these guys make the process hassle-free. I've used Uhaul numerous times before and regret it every time--long lines, small print with some hidden cost, and grouchy & overworked staff (and customers). Highly recommended.

They were pretty good about it, but I always double check because I don't feel like paying for scratch I didn't make, at Noffs or anywhere else. :) *You have to return the truck on Full. They give it to you on Full, but only AT THE FULL LINE. If you just let the gas fill all the way up at the pump, you will be paying for like 3+ extra gallons because it will go BEYOND the Full line. Just a little fyi for those of you trying to move fast and cheap! :) Overall service was great, quick, and clean. I am actually going to use them again because I need to move some couches. They are very dismissive, untrained, and tend to give you attitude whenever you need help. I've recently have dealt with an infestation of moths in the unit as well. Upon entry of the building there were a variety of dead bugs in the hallways around certain unit doors. Like I've said, the place has gone downhill at an alarming rate since Mike has left. Never have I had an issue with this location until now.

All access is electronically controlled by PIN pads located throughout the building and each locker has a keyed padlock on it. Depending on your locker size you might get an individually monitored unit alarm, ours had it, smaller lockers might not. The entire building has tons of CCTV cameras located throughout and looks very secure against would be burglars. Cleanliness: Even the bathrooms are secured by PIN pad, if that doesn't tell you the place is kept extremely clean then I don't know what will. Everything is immaculate inside the building with the exception of some scuffs and scratches here and there from people recklessly careening through the halls with loading dollys. Price: I hear it already, I can hear the voices of people saying "that place is expensive" SHUT UP! You get what you pay for. If you want top tier storage with high security and climate control to guarantee that your sensitive vinyl record collection and high end computers stay safe during your move you're going to need a company like Safeguard. Bottom line: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Don't skimp on protecting your stuff if you have high value items. If you're just storing a bunch of boxes of clothes and general housewares you probably don't need a fancy storage provider with climate controlled indoor storage and can go for an outdoor locker. All that said, for what we were storing, records and high value computing and storage arrays along with a plethora of other sensitive electronics it was well worth the extra money knowing our stuff was safely stored under climate controlled lock and key. Location: It's right off the highway which makes it easy to get to with a large truck and their loading dock can accommodate most any truck you can throw at it. Loading Dock: An enclosed loading dock is a nice plus especially when it's suddenly started raining and you want to unload your truck into storage. Unloading dollies are provided and all were in good working order when I was there. Bottom Line: If you are looking for top notch storage this is your place. If you are storing low value items that don't need climate control then you might be better served elsewhere.

"New customer" would get the same room for 40% cheaper. Yeah, just get the new people in and then 30 days later, they can hike the price up. There is nothing stopping them to do this.
