We had planned to eat at a different restaurant downtown, but upon being hit with a 2.5-3 hour wait time for the restaurant we planned to attend, we decided to ditch that plan, leave downtown and head to Itto. I am SO glad we did. Below is my ranking for the food, service, ambiance, and other misc. factors: Food - 40/50 My partner ordered the miso ramen. He switched out the 2 porks for beef, and added black garlic oil. He thoroughly enjoyed his, saying it was rich and flavorful. I ordered the delux ramen with no substitutions - it was warm and comforting, but a little bit on the bland side. We also got the garlic butter broccoli, which was delicious, and the crispy rice. The crab crispy rice was a HUGE portion, so be prepared for that! I found the crispy rice a little dry, and would have appreciated something to dip it in, but otherwise it was yummy. Service - 30/30 Service was fantastic. Our waitress was prompt, very friendly and very apologetic when the broccoli we ordered did not come out quickly. Ambiance - 7/10 We chose to eat outside, which was basically in a parking lot that was along a busy road. Despite this, the area was clean, well maintained and had good music playing at a reasonable volume, which made for great vibes, especially since the weather was perfect. We did not eat inside, but as other reviews mention, I can imagine it might be quite tight when the restaurant is packed. Came in on a Monday night for a quick dinner while in the city for work. I had the classic ramen and it was very good. Great portion size for the prize compared with ramen places in the Triangle. Not to be dramatic, but Itto ramen is by fat the best ramen I have ever ever eaten and I always get ramen there when I'm in Asheville. We have always been able to walk right in, and during covid, get takeout. My favorite item on the menu is the spicy ramen. And the star of the spicy ramen is the seasoned egg. It's a bit tight but it was a great night to sit outside. ​We started with the Yellowtail Jalapeños appetizer, and it was a great start to the meal. For our main courses, we went with the Spicy Ramen and the Deluxe Ramen. Both were fantastic! The broth in each bowl was rich and intensely flavorful--you could tell a lot of care went into them. My bowl of Spicy Ramen had a wonderful kick without sacrificing any of the deep, savory notes of the broth. The Deluxe Ramen was equally delicious. For drinks we tried the Pomegranate Cucumber Margarita, and the Last Samurai, Raspberry Dream, and they were all incredibly good and well-balanced. ​I do want to give a special shoutout to the staff. It seemed like the place might have been a little short-staffed, but you wouldn't have known it from our experience. LOVE THIS PLACE! I'm in a long distance relationship with my fiancé, and while he was visiting me in Asheville on this occasion, he requested to come to this restaurant since he loved it so much the last time he was here! We came to this location instead of the downtown one because this one has a parking lot. The decor inside is so cute and one of my favorite parts of eating here. I was craving something hot and found this place on the map. I walked in and was able to seat anywhere since it was still pretty early in the day. I ordered the takoyaki and Deluxe Ramen. The takoyaki was good but wasn't steaming hot as I'm used to it being. The Deluxe Ramen had too much butter in it, that it was sliding off my chopsticks. The ramen broth tasted pretty weird, not sure if it was the black garlic that made it taste like that. The noodles were delicious though. I wouldn't give it more than 3-stars because mid-way when I was eating, the server asked if I was ready for the check. I literally had noodles in my mouth still and my bowl was half full. When we travel, we seek cuisines that we don't have back home. Charleston doesn't have many ramen options (and none are vegetarian), so we were excited when a local friend recommended Itto. As soon as he saw the Takoyaki Balls ($10) on the tapas menu, my husband wanted to try them. I am not an octopus fan, but I tried one for his sake. They're crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. This was the first time I've seen Takoyaki Balls on a menu, so if you're an adventurous eater, this might be the app for you. We visited on a chilly, October night, and it was perfect for ramen. My husband had a more traditional pork-based ramen. For my entrée, I had the vegetable ramen. Often, vegetarian dishes are an after thought, or simply leave or swap out animal proteins, but not at Itto. The green kale noodles were unique. The ramen comes with a large spoon so you can eat it properly, with a little bit of each item in every spoonful. All ingredients (noodles, tofu, corn, onions, arugala, bamboo, and scallions) complimented each other. When we finished our entrees, our bellies were warm and full. Although we didn't have any leftovers, the portions were large. Ample street parking is available, or you can park at a nearby Ingles grocery store across the street and walk over. Itto has two locations in the Asheville area, and I wish they'd expand to South Carolina! Until then, we'll happily recommend this spot and return when we visit Asheville. read more

This place opened for lunch at 12 pm, and I noticed that the parking lot was nearly full! I thought that might be a good sign... First of all, the place was casual, with a warm, cozy vibe. Also had some authentic Japanese artwork on the walls. However, I could not overlook its VERY awkward layout. I say that because smack in the middle of their dining room was this long line of tables, with all these smaller tables for twos and fours lined around it. Must have been a good reason for having that awkward-as-hell, long table charging up the restaurant like that?? Now for the most important thing...the food! I ordered their "Itto Buns" (AKA Pork Buns) and their House Special Ramen, which was brothless! (my first!). Well, where to start?? I'll jump right to it and say that I didn't just love, but LOVED their foods!!! Their Pork Buns were possibly THE best Pork Buns/Baos I've ever had in my life! They were unusual because the Pork were minced...unlike most Pork Buns, with one chunky slab of Pork. Although they were messier to eat because of the slicing, they were simply MAGICAL. Not necessarily because of the cutting, but the flavoring was truly amazing. Also loved the fresh Cucumber in the buns. Again, THE Best Pork Buns I've ever had!! Topping that would be hard...but their BROTHLESS House Special Ramen was also unbelievable good! Thanks to a great mix of toppings and a truly tasty sesame oil (or something at the base of the ramen), this ramen truly did NOT need the broth to make it absolutely delicious. Sort of made me think it was a superior version of Spaghetti. (I'm not a huge fan of tomato-based sauce anyway). So again, their ramen was MAGICAL. Not only were their foods Excellent, they were Unique. My first time trying Sliced Pork in the Buns (versus just a slab of Pork)...and again, my first with Brothless Ramen! Their service was stellar as well. The hostess was quick to greet cheerfully, then let me pick my table/seating...and my waiter was totally on his game. THE only criticism I had was the long line of tables in the middle...but I can easily just laugh that off. I'd give this restaurant more than 5 stars if I could! Again, when I saw a near cult-like gathering at the door right before the restaurant opened, I KNEW that I was in for something good. This HAS to be the best Japanese food in Asheville. They scrimped me on the amount of miso broth (didn't even go halfway up the noodles) and when I asked for more they wanted to charge an extra $5, when I said it was less broth than usual she (owner/manager possibly) wanted to argue about it. 3.5 stars My friend and I were in Asheville for a few days and Itto ended up being our first meal destination! We were astounded by the vast menu of unique tapas. We opted for the crab scallion pancake and the Japanese oysters for apps, and a deluxe ramen to share. We also got two cocktails - the last samurai was good for my friend's allergy symptoms with its gingery lemony flavor, and my cherry blossom mimosa was very pretty, but didn't taste too different from a regular mimosa. At this point, I went to use the bathroom after a long day of travel and unfortunately both restrooms were horrible. Both were out of paper and just totally dingy and not clean. This really destroys my whole outlook of a restaurant and makes me feel grossed out whenever I think of the dining experience. I ended up not using the bathroom and just went back to the table. The food was pretty good, everything stood out on its own. I really enjoyed the fried oysters and crab scallion pancake for its uniqueness. The ramen was also good but not super stand-out. Sadly, probably won't return for cleanliness alone. I will focus on the food only in this review because the bad service I received did not out weigh me returning for more food from this restaurant on other occasions. Thus I'd recommend you give this restaurant a try for yourself and decide what you think is more important. The times I visited, the restaurant was still fairly new so it's possible the waitresses/waiters I received were still learning. Let's start with the bao....I've actually compared their bao with other restaurants in Asheville and TO DATE I have not seen one that can top the one from Itto Ramen. It's mandatory with your order. Literally can't go wrong with the ramen. I prefer spice so a typically default to that in ramen but literally each one is a slam dunk. The gyoza is notable as well and many of their other apps are great (including their sweet potato one)! The one item I've tried tried that wasn't quite for me was the deep fried ice cream. Very disappointing. It's marketed as an authentic Japanese restaurant, but it was one of my worst experiences out there. First thing you notice when you walk in is that they are playing 1990-2000s rock music. Not a huge deal, but it really pulls one out of the Japanese experience. Which is a shame because the decor was well put together. The second thing was the waitresses were all crowded together close to our table just chatting about their boyfriends and such. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people standing around and chatting, but don't do it anywhere close to where you have customers! It was quite annoying. Our waitress was nice, but the chatting and gabbing close to our table was yet another to pull us out of the experience. Now for the food. Yet another disappointment. My noodles were undercooked, and I didn't eat a single pork belly slice. It was tough and wasn't worth chewing at all! I asked if I could have my egg cooked to be a little less jammy because that's my preference, and my waiter said "sorry, we cook them all at the beginning of the night". RED FLAG! And last visit we liked the classic ramen but thought the miso ramen better, so we got miso ramen again, & hubs, who is less of a broth lover than I, ordered the special ramen which was brothless (autocorrect says breathless :-) ). It did indeed take our breath away. It was stunningly good. Hubs tweaked it by swapping corn in instead of hot oil. Next visit I'm getting a bowl of that special for me. Tonight's drink special was a "bubbling butterfly", prosecco with lavender and lemon - I'm not much of a drinker but that just sounded like me, and it too was divine. Highly recommend for Japanese food/ramen cravings! We've been here twice, once at this location and once at another location. Ramen may not be the best I've ever had, but is delicious! When we were reading the menu at the other location, some customers came out and started telling us how delicious it was which is always a positive sign. Both times we were seated right away and waited on quickly. Some favorites we've tried are the avocado ball and the stuffed sweet potato with spicy crab and tuna. I was definitely a bit wary about the sweet potato but it honestly worked really well! I was pleasantly surprised. We also had a bit leftover the next day and it tasted even better. So surprisingly delicious and fresh. Definitely the favorite though, the avocado ball. Creamy and flavorful with just the right amount of crunchy texture from being fried. Amazing. We've tried the seafood ramen and deluxe ramen. The deluxe ramen broth was extremely rich and decadent, and the chashu pork melted in your mouth. I ordered a brothless ramen bowl called "Ito House Special". I did this in order to enjoy the piping hot noodles & bold flavors. And bold they were! I wanted something we could get fast and get on our way I did not know everything on the menu is served like appetizer size ,smaller portions of certain things. They did not have dinners to order. If you wanted Raman it was a good size bowl. The waiter we had was very friendly and helpful. We didn't know what to order. I decided to try the sliced steak pieces with jalapeno on top. They were very thinly sliced and over cooked. Almost like eating a piece of beef jerky. If they were done less they would have been really good. Then we got soup. It was a good size for sure but the broth was very funky to me. They say they cook it for a long time. It has seafood pieces in it, crab meat I think the one piece I tried was imitation and it was horrible tasting. I don't know what the broth was made from but I didn't like it. He ate it and didn't want to waste it. I was thinking the broth was going to be like a pho soup but it wasn't. Since we had never been here before we had no clue what to get. So exciting to finally have a Ramen joint in Asheville, it's about time! As sad as I was when Lucky Otter closed, having a ramen shop in Asheville open in its place is really awesome. I love what they've done with the space, it looks great. The decor and set up is quite simple with a small 5 seat bar as well as 'bar' seating against the kitchen, basic dining room seating and some outdoor seating. The restaurant is clean and sleek. Upon arrival, I was greeted immediately and offered to sit wherever I'd like. Because I was alone, I chose to sit at the bar. I was happy to see that they have a full bar along with their beer menu and large sake menu. I decided to start the evening with their mint, lemon and lychee cocktail except that I switched to bourbon (instead of vodka). The bartender, Hannah, was glad to do so and it turned out super tasty! What a refreshing cocktail. I'll definitely order some nigiri sake next time I visit though! As for their food menu, I was actually surprised and pleased at how huge it is and how many options they have. Itto has tons of appetizers, including, so excitingly, takoyaki! AND they make it in house (never frozen). I am soooo pumped about this! Takoyaki is one of my favorite foods but it's hard to find it homemade/fresh! Although I didn't order an appetizer because I was alone, I'm already looking forward to going back and ordering the takoyaki! For my meal, I ordered the Vegetable Ramen and added an egg. As a pescatarian, this was the only ramen dish available to me. I was surprised that they didn't have any fish/seafood ramen, I'd love to see that added to their menu soon! The food came out pretty quickly and was served beautifully. I immediately took out my camera and started taking photos, haha. The vegetable ramen is actually made with kale and is green, it's so pretty! My overall opinion of the ramen is that it was quite delicious. It was no where close to the best ramen I've had but it had rich, complex flavors and had great tastes and consistency. The bamboo shoots were unnecessary and had a weird taste but otherwise, everything was great. The eggs were actually my favorite part and I think that all ramen should be served with eggs anyway (personal opinion). The broth was salty (but not too salty) and had a great umami flavor. I quickly ate all of the ramen and all of the chunky food and drank most of the broth, leaving behind just the bamboo shoots and some of the crunchy toppings. As much as I enjoyed my meal, after tip, it cost $30. My bill consisted of one cocktail, a bowl of vegetarian ramen and one egg. That is really steep for me, I rarely spend that much on a meal and prefer to take home leftovers if I'm paying that much. When you sit down and order your drinks, get an order of the pork belly buns. I could come here just for the buns. They are always perfectly crafted. Soft, moist buns, just enough pork belly, not too much sauce. Thankfully my date offered me the last one so I didn't have to fork him for it lol The grilled pulpa... was a bit chewy-ier than I prefer it. Not sure I would order it again but usually it is one of my favorite things to get out. Such a special treat when done right. Yellowtail jalapeno, always one of my favorites as well and itto does it right. Couldn't come here without getting an order. The dynamite shrimp appetizer was a great mix of sweet, spicy and a little bit of lemon spritz we had left over from the pulpa. Would order again if we didn't try something new. The pork gyoza was nothing fancy. I feel like you really cant go wrong with these tasty little pods. My date was a huge fan, but these are one of his favorite tasty treats. Last time I wasn't a huge fan of the ramen, it just needs more. So we didn't get any ramen but did bring some to go for a roommate that wasn't feeling well, they said it was everything they needed so that's 5 star worthy! read more
