It'a a shame they allowed an incompetent waiter to serve there. I came here on my birthday and it was an hour before closing. we had ordered 2 ramen bowls. Apparently it had been forgotten to be put on the list and I never got my ramen. the waiter Andrew said that next time the ramen would be "on the house" and so I came back a couple weeks later to redeem what he had said. I came back to redeem the ramen, and we kept checking with the waiter Andrew, and he said it was free, it was free, right up until the bill came out and he then said it wasn't..... it was a blatant lie. At the same time, I had ordered their "sushi on fire" and the same waiter Andrew thought it would be funny to play with the fire, and in doing so, flung some alcohol at me and burned a hole in my pants. This is my first time coming alone for lunch and I was seated quickly, someone came to take my order in less than 5 minutes and both of my rolls were put very quickly. We've been to the Itto Sushi in downtown SLC a few times and loved it. We decided to try their Orem location at University Place. It started with a friendly greeting "Irrashaimase!!" The decorations and set up of the dinning area was great. I prefer it over the slc location. Prompt service and attention immediately after we were seated. It was quite busy for a Monday. The servers engagement and service were amazing. We ordered 5 rolls, nigiri platter, and miso soup. We didn't wait long at all. The rolls were neatly made and presented quite nicely. We thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and freshness. All together from the beginning to the end of our meal was top notch. Awful lunch service. I've been here many times but came back for lunch on a Saturday. There were only a few other tables seated, but felt ignored. We were seated right away and waited 20 mins for our water and another 20 mins for our food. Our waiter was not attentive to our table at all, and we had to ask him to bring us our bill. This sushi is so good that we ate literally every roll before I could even get a single picture. We came here for a birthday, so we had quite a large party. A few things were absolutely TOP NOTCH: 1. The service. I mean, serving a 15-person party is always stressful for a server but ours absolutely nailed it. She was kind, attentive, and extremely efficient. They key to Itto is to go on the days that fish has been delivered fresh. The last time I heard, the toro arrives on Tuesday, and Tuesday evening is when we usually go. Have you ever had fish so good, so flavorful, so fatty that is melts in your mouth like A5 wagu? That is what fresh toro is like at Itto. Not only that, they give you real wasabi with this special dipping sauce. It is so important to have real wasabi with sushi. The perfect umami blend to go with that fatty, melt in your mouth raw fish. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I've never been disappointed with Itto. Okay so I'm a big sushi fan and I wanted to try somewhere new and this place had good reviews so we gave it a shot tonight! First, out the gate we were promptly seated which is always a plus. The space was really open so it was a little loud. Our server was super sweet and attentive so definite points there. Now onto the food, we always like to start our sushi meals with edamame. Sadly they didn't have any to offer us. A couple other pet peeves my water glass was empty quite a bit but the staff was all very friendly and happy to help when asked for something. Okay cool here's a play by play of the rolls we ordered. Traditional Salmon: basically what you would expect salmon with rice wrapped in seaweed. The fish was average. I've had better but I've had worse. Unagi roll: eel, avocado, rice, and seaweed. I don't like avocado so I substituted with cucumber. A couple of the bites had bones in them. That's really disappointing to me. It wasn't prepped properly before cooking. Vegas roll: excellent roll here! I thought the spicy Mayo was a little too much but if you love spice like my friend does it will be perfect for you! Itto roll: great seasoning and okay with the fish. I didn't have this one so it's hard to say but that's the feedback I got. Finally the best for last, the Mars roll! SOOO good! We ended up getting a second order of it because we liked it so much. As per usual we got it without avocado and substituted for cucumber. On our second roll they forgot this substitution and I have to say it was not good with it. Even my friend who likes avocado agreed it completely didn't work with the red tuna and shrimp tempura. It was so sweet and didn't taste good at all. So I recommend making the swap here even if you're an avocado fan! It was the true hit of the night. I would come here again especially since they have happy hour so for all 6 rolls it was less than $50. The quality was good not great but definitely better than others in Utah. The Romeo and Juliette roll was my favorite! A little more on the sweet side than savory and soo delicious. The coconut shrimp in it completed the roll and made it taste so great. I also got the titanic roll and added cucumber. It was a little on the fishy side but I still finished it and thought it tasted good. I'm not sure if I would order that one again. The house salad wasn't that good. The lettuce was a little brown, lots of the crunchy things and not a lot of dressing. The dressing was also a much stronger ginger flavor than most restaurants I've tried it at. Service was very fast, we were seated without a wait and the food was ready within 5 minutes of ordering. I have been to this location and the location in SLC many times in the past few years! I spent a gap year in Tokyo and my love for sushi grew there. Coming back to the US, it's really hard to find great places with affordable and fresh sushi. This place is the best I've tried! Typically I prefer to go for lunch and get their bento/lunch set meals. They have great nigiri and sashimi and for a great price at lunch! They also have very fun American rolls--including the firebird--which is lit on fire and tastes great! I haven't tried anything on their menu that I didn't like (and I truly have tried just about everything). Great place to find some authentic Japanese food or Americanized Japanese food! If you are looking for authentic, stick to nigiri, sashimi, takoyaki, miso soup, okonomiyaki, karaage, most of the entrees and noodle dishes. Literally can't go wrong!
