Iwai fixed my furnace's ignitor switch last year in January. No issues, good service. Heater broke again 13 months later. The exact same part broke. Warranty is 12months. Ok, got it, need a new one. Went around and around with Craig, the owner, about getting a discount. He did end up giving $35 off but my total bill was $329. This is a $30-$50 part that should last min 3 years..,most last a lot longer but life does happen. Not like it gets a lot of use here in SoCal. I wasn't asking Craig to loose money, but to cover his costs for parts and labor and not add additional margin. Pay your tech, pay the cost of the part and add a little for admin and take care of a customer. Tech was fantastic. Craig not so much. Lost customer for life read more

I called Iwai Cooling and Heatin, after getting estimates from 3 other companies. I liked Craig, the owner of Iwai C and H, because of his straightforward and honest manner. I liked what he noticed about my old system, being a good brand, but also noticed that the rotors on the air conditioner were going the wrong way, making the heat come out of the side of the unit instead of the top. I liked the plans for my new furnace, coil, air conditioner and ducts. He also suggested getting an attic fan to blow away hot air from the attic. Craig also gave me a fair, competitive price for the C and H unit. He came out to remove my old unit and install my new Lenox elite system. He was very meticulous, securing loose wires and hoses and filled a wall hole with sheet metal. The work done was immaculate, with his son Josh doing all the ductwork and installing new vents which he caulked very neatly. Every step of the way, Craig gave me different options on the installation of the furnace and air conditioner and where the tubing housing the coolant would be placed. I have been a loyal customer since I chose Iwai to install the HVAC unit in my condo in 2011. However, due to my recent experiences with Iwai, in which I have had to endure slow service, poor communication, billing errors and insults, I will be looking elsewhere for my HVAC needs in the future. I called Iwai when my AC unit stopped working in late September 2022. My tenants had to wait 3 days without AC for them to get to me. We were not happy with the delay, but accepted it given that it was a heat wave, and they were busy. When he got there, he called me saying there was a leak and recommended refilling it and adding stop leak with a dye to show where the leak was if the stop leak didn't work. He said he would call me back with any other recommendations, but never did. After he left, the AC worked fine until the next day when it failed again. I called immediately but they did not come back until 5 days later, which I saw as an unacceptable delay, given that he knew there was a strong likelihood of the need to return. When he returned 5 days later, he made the repairs, and the unit works fine, but once again he never called me back as he had promised, and I never heard from the office about setting up an annual maintenance service plan as he had promised would happen. In addition to the service delays, and poor communication, I was subjected to billing errors that led to an unfortunate conversation with the office person in which she accused me of trying for "a freebie." The details: When I received the bill via email for the first visit, she called and requested that I mail a check, rather than pay by credit card over the phone. I immediately mailed a check and on the day of the second visit I received an email receipt for my payment. I waited for the bill for the second visit, but it never came. 3 weeks later I got 2 bills and a phone call accusing me of not paying my bills. It turned out that the office person had misapplied my payment to the larger bill for the second visit creating the appearance that I hadn't paid the first bill and only partially paid the second. When I told her I had been waiting for the bill for the second visit, she accused me - a good customer, who had always paid his bills promptly since 2011 - of trying for a "freebie." Afterward, I saw that the email she'd sent me, titled "Receipt" and showing the amount I'd paid in big bold letters, also had in small type the amount due for the 2nd visit. I had not received an Invoice like the one she'd sent me for the first visit. When I asked her what I owed, she couldn't answer, so I asked her to correct her records and send me corrected invoices and receipts. She did and I promptly paid my bill by check sent by mail which included a written complaint detailing these incidents. I have since received a receipt for my payment, but no response to my complaint. Iwai has lost my business and earned this poor rating. read more

Is it possible to give zero stars? We had an HVAC installed about five years ago and I'd have to say it was the very worst customer service and installation I've ever experienced. And this is from someone who had an almost 8-month kitchen renovation. We had two issues: The first was that the unit needed to be placed on the roof -- fine -- however, it leaked EVERY SINGLE TIME IT RAINED. The company claimed that they came out and "fixed" it about three times while nobody was home. We finally called another company who fixed it in one try and it hasn't leaked since. Not even during this rainy December. The second issue has not been resolved. The unit makes parts of the house vibrate. I asked about this early on and the owner said he would come and place more pads under the unit. He claimed he did this, but it didn't seem any different. The company that fixed the leak said that they couldn't put any pads under it because that had to be done BEFORE installation. This means, again, that the original installer lied. We eventually had to move our bedroom because the rattling would make it hard to fall asleep. I don't know how this guy sleeps at night. Update on 3/29/2011... I just wanted to clarify that the roof did NOT leak before the air conditioner was installed. The roof leaked AFTER it was installed. The contractor, Iwai, kept telling me that it was corrected, but it never was. Another air conditioning guy fixed it because it had to do with how Iwai sealed it. Even if I needed a roofer, like someone suggests, Iwai should have provided that service instead of lying to me. read more

We had a full havoc system installed in out house by iwai one year ago. The job is subpar. Every room in our house is a different temperature with our bedroom being the hottest room. So we cannot sleep comfortably. Because the airflow is so inconsistent we tried to turn off the vents in rooms we don't use. But the vents that they installed are just terrible. They are made if chap plastic and the knob broke when I tried to shut it off. So you cannot shut off a vent or even change the direction of the air flow. Welcome to our fund house. Make sure you bring your north face jacket when we hang out in the living room and your birthday suit for our bedroom. We have a six year old AC system. A few days ago, on the first really hot day of the year, the system came on, provided cold air for about an hour and then quit. The first AC company that examined the system said we needed a new condenser/compressor. I called Iwai for a second opinion. When the Iwai rep arrived, I explained to him that the fan at the top of the condenser/compressor turns slowly and the system just kind-of whines. The Iwai rep replied, "it sounds like a capacitor." Sure enough, within 10 minutes Brandon had the capacitor replaced and we had cold air. Given their quick response, diagnosis and repair, Iwai rates five stars with us. read more

Iwai Cooling & Heating is the epitome of great service. Like many others, our A/C suddenly started blowing out warm air. We called another company first and we were quoted $9k-$12k for a full system change to fix, which I was told was our ONLY option. I then called Iwai on a Friday morning, after a friend had recommended them (they worked on his house 7 years earlier) to me. Lisa, from their office, worked diligently to get her crew to inspect my system asap. Although they were too busy to come the same day, she was able to squeeze me in the following Monday. I even received helpful text reminders about when they would arrive, and Brandon and Josh came by on time as scheduled Monday morning. They were courtesy and even brought removable booties for their shoes to not dirty our carpet. Upon 15 minutes after inspecting, Brandon stated that although my system is ancient, he felt that was the only impeding problem was a blown fuse. After replacing with a $20 new fuse, the guys ran diagnostics on the whole system, stated all else is working fine and went on their way. I was blown away by how quickly they diagnosed the problem and the honesty of their team. In summary, I would recommend Iwai Cooling & Heating to anyone.
