When my parents needed someone to come out and check/service their A/C we reached out to Iwai C&H. Upon calling to schedule the service, Brandon was extremely helpful and easy to work with. He worked with my parents' availability with ease and was able to have someone out within a couple days. My mother said the Iwai rep was very nice and professional. He was able to service their unit easily and quickly. My parents noticed a significant difference in how well their A/C was running following the service. Naturally after hearing such a positive experience from my parents, when it came time for my A/c in my new home to be serviced I called Iwai C&H. Once again, Brandon was upbeat, easy to work with, and worked with my very limited availability. The Iwai rep arrived and was the nicest man! He was extremely knowledgeable and honest. First let me say IWAI was very responsive in getting someone out to resolve my problem. I'm a little disappointed, had IWAI come inspect, diagnose and repair my air conditioner. The technician informed me I needed 1 lb of coolant as I may have a small leak and we discussed having my air ducts replaced, which would also help with the cooling. After the coolant, the house began to cool and the air conditioner seemed to work fine. A few days later, at a cost of $1,500, I had IWAI come and replace all the ducts, with one request, take before and after pictures, which Brandon Iwai stated was no problem, unfortunately that request was not relayed to the 2 technician that can and did a SUPER job as far as I could tell. Well exactly 30 days later the same problem for the initial call reoccurred, air coming from the conditioner was not cool, therefore another call to IWAI, the response was very fast and Brandon had a technician out within a few hours. After a quick diagnoses determined even more coolant was needed and the leak may be larger than expected and the only way to find out will cost up to $1,500. If in 30 days the air conditioner faults again, I may have to get a second opinion as to ways to find out the source of the leak and the cost and if confirmed (cutting the copper line and flushing is the only way) may have IWAI come again and repair. FIRST: This company is TERRIBLE at communications once they've made the sale. Craig the owner will take his time getting back to you, IF he ever does. I had a very undersized AC/heating unit on my house and my electric bill was enormous. I decided to have it all redone and after reading a number of great reviews on Angie's List, settled on using Craig at Iwai Cooling & Heating. I ended up getting the top of the line unit, 2 actually for 2 zones, costing a little over $27k. The installation went pretty well, except for one installer who had a really bad attitude. They installed the gas line in the wrong place on the outside of my house, even though my kitchen was completely gutted (for a remodel) and they should have put it on the inside of the open wall. When I asked them about it, the worker got really irate and snapped at me that I should have told him sooner. My response was that I shouldn't have had to tell him at all! Why would someone want an exposed gas pipe on the outside of their house when it could be hidden on the inside of the wall??? They also didn't plan some things very well and didn't seem to know the L.A. building code on some things. They didn't seem to know that the AC platform needs to be within 20' of an attic entrance, which threw off our kitchen remodel design. I had to forego skylights in my kitchen because they had to put the unit over my kitchen in the attic, instead of over my bedroom. They also didn't plan well where to put the AC unit on my roof and there was a delay while they had to build a special platform for it to sit on. That all should have been pre-planned while we were waiting for the units on order. During my kitchen remodel, one of my expensive touch-screen thermostats was smashed by a worker. I contacted Craig to get me a new one on Aug 4. It's now Aug 15th, 107º outside and we still don't have it. I texted Craig several times for an ETA, sometimes he responds, sometimes he doesn't. Finally yesterday I texted him and he responded that it was in. It was 105º outside and I offered to drive to his office to pick up the thermostat. He told me it was in Irwindale. I said that's fine, it's too hot to ilve without it any longer. Then he tells me to just go buy a cheap one at Home Depot. I'm starting to think that the thermostat isn't in after all. I tell him I still have my old thermostat and that I tried hooking it up but couldn't get it to work. He gives me instructions on what color wires go where. I start hooking it up...the wires spark. THEN he texts me to turn off the electricity before doing it (Mind you, there's 15-20 minutes between each of his texts). I get it hooked up like he says, turn it on and the unit sparks and blows a fuse in the attic. I tell him the wiring must be wrong at the AC unit. He says no. Now I'm sitting in the attic waiting for him to tell me how to get this fixed and he stops responding all together. I text him the next day saying I'm going to write bad reviews for him leaving me stranded. He texts me right back that he didn't see my messages. Baloney. Then he says it's hard to see (in the photo I sent him) where the wires are going. I reply he should know where they're going, his company installed it! He then says he's going to have the technician that installed it contact me. Then no further word that night. The next morning I text him that I never heard from the technician. He then writes back, and I assume he thinks he's texting his technician and not me, "Make sure you call this guy he's all pissed off. Not sure how u wired the t stat. he wants you to walk through so for write (sic) now he can put a cheap one..." Remember, it was HIS idea to put on a cheap thermostat! I write him back and say I'm sure he meant that for his technician, and how professional it is to badmouth his customers to his workers. I said I guess he thinks I shouldn't be pissed at having to sit in the heat again today. He writes back: "Sorry, just trying to get you taken care of." His tech does text me, but tells me that my AC unit won't work with a cheap thermostat....directly in conflict to what the owner, Craig, tells me. He goes on to say that if I mess with the unit they won't be responsible for it. I tell him that it was the owner that told me to mess with the wires and what order to put them in so HE'LL be responsible if anything goes wrong! I actually think I can hook up a cheap thermostat, I don't think these people know what they're talking about. The manual from American Standard shows a hookup with the 6 colored wires I have instead of just the three that they hooked up. I think they just don't have the new thermostat...he just never expected me to say I'll come pick it up. They still haven't finished installing all my grills and I still need to have some sort of testing done, so I still have to deal with these people. That is, if they ever answer their calls. I see other people have complained about this as well. read more

They installed our HVAC system and it immediately broke down daily for two weeks and THEY DON'T ANSWER THEIR PHONE!!! I called this company and was given a 12-2 appt. time for the next day. 2:00 came and still no one came or called. I then called and the tech finally came at 2:35. That is an F for punctuality. After looking at the AC, I was told I needed to replace a part and that someone would call me the next day with an estimate. At 3:00, the next day I realized that no one had called, so I called again. The receptionist had no idea what I was referring to and had to get back to me. After a few hours a call was returned with an estimate and a time frame of one week. It has now been over two weeks, I call every 2-3 days (since they don't) and keep getting told just a few more days. I give that an F in quality, and F in responsiveness and an F in professionalism and an F in price, since I haven't gotten anything for my money. Which all adds up to an F in overall experience. I am afraid to start all over with a new company. Still waiting, one month later . . . I have never dealt with such incompetence in ANY business!!!!! read more

Iwai installed a new HVAC on the roof of our townhouse at the end of 2014. The unit works fine. The problem came when we would have heavy rains. We would get a drip coming down through the unit onto our carpet. We called them several times over the next 3 years when it would drip. They were not very responsive, but would eventually come out and put some sealing stuff on. Nothing worked. They eventually said it was probably the roof. Our roof repair people said it wasn't. Finally, in 2021 we called another HVAC company and asked them to evaluate it. They tested it with a hose and discovered it was a poor installation job. We spent $1,600 to fix it. That worked. It finally does not leak, even after very heavy rains. While I am glad to have fixed the problem, I still am angry that Iwai botched the installation. They also should have diagnosed it correctly and fixed it when we called them to complain. read more

This review is long overdue, but well deserved. Early last winter, we noticed our central heating system wasn't generating warm air. It was apparent something wasn't functioning properly when we ran it for 3 hours set to 80 degrees, and nothing...our house remained at a cool 54 degrees. After reading many positive reviews online and knowing someone who had a positive experience using Iwai Cooling & Heating, we decided to call them. I spoke with Craig Iwai (owner) and explained our problem. We set an appointment for someone to come out the following morning at 9am to assess the problem. The next morning, Brandon Iwai (Craig's son) called us at 8:45am to inform us he would be arriving at 9am, and did. Impressive considering the morning rush hour. I escorted Brandon to our attic where our heating system is located and within 5 minutes he had identified the issue. A dead motor... Since we have an older model system, we were afraid that finding a replacement motor would be challenging. Turns out that was the case... Brandon said he would need to search around to find a replacement and that he would call us with an update later that afternoon. Sure enough, around 2pm we received a call saying he found the replacement motor and that he'd be out the next morning by 10am to replace it. Whew!! At 10am the next morning, Brandon showed up with another technician named Derek and within 20 minutes, they had swapped out motors and our system was back up and running. Finally, a warm house! We highly recommend Iwai Cooling & Heating. They were prompt, professional, knowledgeable and definitely went the mile to ensure we were happy overall. Iwai did a big job for my husband and I adding ducting, heating and air. Not only did they offer the best price around but they also came in and got it done in two days! The technicians helped with any questions we had and stayed late into the second day of work to ensure we approved of everything. It is so nice walking through my house without freezing! Due to a cancellation I was able to get an appointment a day earlier than originally scheduled which worked out great because I happened to be home. Brandon came within the appointment window and took a look at my furnace which I told him I could hear dripping noises in between the a/c cycling. He unclogged the condensation drain pipe and rerouted it so it would pass in front of the air filter door panel. He also noticed that the fan blower seemed unusually loud when the a/c kicked in and discovered that one of the motor mounting bracket was missing a screw! He replaced the missing screw and said that the blower wheel fan was a little warped which was causing the loud noise. He tried to straighten it out the best he could but it would need to be replaced with a new one for the best performance. Our furnace is 35 years old so he cautioned that it may be difficult to find a replacement part. After that he checked the condenser unit and said that it was in really good shape considering how old it was. That was a relief to hear! Overall I was very pleased with Iwai Cooling & Heating and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for HVAC service. read more

They only get one star because I have to give them one to rate them. Stay away from them they a will take your money and run. The people that work at Iwai are incompetent I have had them out to my house several times and they can't fix my problem. When I first called them it was because I needed a new compressor. So they came out put one it for $2,700.00. Great all was well and then the AC stopped working. So I call them up and they say my coils are dirty and they need to clean them so I say okay. The day that they were supposed to come by one guy shows up to my house to do a two man job and tells me that the coils maybe too dirty and that it would be better if I replace them because if they clean them and it does not fix the problem that it will cost me more money. So I said okay again. Well that did not fix the problem so I call them out again. This time they tell me that I have a clog in the line. The supposedly clear the clog and it works for about two and a half weeks. Then it was a leak by the compressor and that they fixed that and that did not work. So they came out once again and said the leak must me in my wall and that would be another $1,100.00 to fix. So I called out another guy and he found the leak and said that it was in the compressor and that I should have Iwai replace it. So I call them and now they are saying the other guy tampered with it and they won't come out and fix it. So run from these guys as fast as you can read more

I couldn't have been more surprised with the service (in a good way). The technician arrived as scheduled and was very pleasant. Our furnace is in a very tight attic and he always maintained a great attitude. When he finished the inspection and cleaning, he went over all of the details of the inspection and we were happy to hear that everything was in tip-top condition. He finished up by testing the temperatures of the air coming out of all of the ducts in the house and, when he went to replace the 2 furnace filters, he didn't have our size with him. So, I assumed he was just going to leave it as-is; however, he went out of his way to cut down 2 re-useable furnace filters that he had for us to use. So, on top of getting an inspection and cleaning, we were given 2 re-useable furnace filters that we can just rinse out to clean. Now, we don't have to buy new filters for a long time. When he left, I turned the heat back on and it actually smelled much fresher. It didn't have that musty smell we had prior to the inspection/cleaning. I'm not sure what he did, but it worked. I came to this company from their Angie's List referrals. Last spring I received 3 bids to install a new furnace & AC as my original HVAC system was from 1986. Iwai's was the most competitive and Craig was the most straight forward of the 3 and genuinely passionate about the custom design work my unusual house called for. The work was done on time in 1.5 days with a competent crew. Craig was out to inspect the finished job the next day and made some small adjustments to a little sloppy work before he and I were happy with it. It has now been 6 months and both elements of the system work beautifully. I would definitely recommend Iwai. read more

Years ago (~2006) I was told that I needed a new heating unit by another company. I was skeptical with that assessment so I called Iwai for a second opinion. He checked out the unit and assured me that the unit was in working order. He could have easily agreed since I don't know anything about AC/heating units. Because of his honesty, I kept his info on file. A few months ago I thought that the AC fan was louder than normal although I never paid notice to it much before. But, I thought I'd better have it checked out before damage or more damage was done to it. I had no problem contacting the company - got a live person on the phone several times. The technician came to the house on time, checked out the unit, explained in detail what he was doing and how things worked. He provided and installed a filter free of charge as part of the service. They gave me a nice discount on the service - almost half the cost of the service visit back in 2006! I cannot speak regarding a major installation or critical repair since both of my service calls ended up not requiring any repairs. I was surprised at the poor reviews on Yelp regarding lack of customer service. Perhaps they were perusing their Yelp reviews and are now more attentive to their telephone calls and service appointments. I did look at the reviews prior to my appointment a few months ago but thought I'd take a chance anyway. read more

Craig Iwai, the ''owner'' of the company while he knows what he is talking about he does not follow through. While I never wish bad on anybody it really seems like this guys is asking for it. He doesnt pay his employees either the right amount or like in my case NOT AT ALL(except his son). He keeps a small crew and over works them.
