Ordered three tacos and only got one. Talk about robbing the customer. Be careful ordering from these people.

WHERE to begin? I've…read morebeen familiar with B&B since its earliest days (which roughly coincided with the earliest days of another great Milwaukee institution, Outpost Natural Foods -- where I was a member and volunteer). A good friend of mine cooked at B&B for a while. As young, recent college grads, my wife and I regularly ate there. Along with Oriental Drugs, the Blue River Cafe, The Outpost and Century Hall, B&B was a favorite, comforting go-to spot. Although I couldn't visit very often during my 25 years on the west coast, I was so very happy to know that it was still here, and as wonderful as ever, when I returned to Wisconsin in 2008. How funny to think that this tremendous haven for those wanting to include at least some vegetarian foods in their diet occupied the spot once known for Frenchy's restaurant (the place famous/infamous for its bear and lion steaks)! I'll need a new place to eat before going to the Oriental Theater. And I'll need a long time to process the sadness I feel. All the best to the owners and staff . . . and here's hoping that maybe B&B will live on in another location.

I love this market, attached to Beans & Barley's restaurant, so ridiculously much. If only 'cause…read moreit carries El Rey's Lemon Tostaditas Chips. And I am batsh*t crazy about them: If you have yet to have the pleasure, run, don't walk to Beans and grab yourself a bag. The seasoning has this indescribable uh... lemony tang, and the chips are sturdy enough to handle the thickest salsa or dip. Thing is though, they're delicious enough to stand on their own. When I bring these back to NYC, I gently nestle the bag into my carry-on luggage, like the finest china, to prevent crushing. On this last trip, I found myself musing to hubby, "I wish I could find a way to export these to Brooklyn!" I also noticed a new-to-me-at-least flavor, Chipotle Sour Cream. I regret not getting these too. Other than this, the market is fun to poke around in. This time around, I spotted Loma Linda brand canned meat alternative products, which triggered flashbacks of my former vegetarian days. And I dug the oven mitts with smart a** sayings on them, among other things. Bottom line: Don't even think of leaving here without a bag of El Rey's Lemon Tostaditas Chips. Just know you'll never be able to go back to eating Doritos again.

The restaurant is quite spacious and located on the second level of the building. There are options to sit inside, outside but covered, or outside. The marina and Lake Michigan add the experience with great views from the deck area. Our server was very nice. She was super attentive, and we really appreciated her checking back in for refills, napkins, etc. The food was actually the highlight of my experience. I got the garlic shrimp skewers which came with a Hawaiian roll, Cole slaw and a side (I chose a baked potato). My partner got the prime rib dip with hush puppies. Didn't have a chance to take a pic of the cheese curds before they were devoured! Only downside is the place is VERY noisy. Everytime someone who move a chair, the scraping sound was otherworldly. They are metal chairs on a concrete/gravel flooring. Not ideal. And waitstaff was constantly dropping things and running into each other or the chairs/tables. That was a bit chaotic. However, the food was great and so were the views. They also have live music (they had wrapped up before we got there today). I'd definitely come back (maybe sit inside near an area where you can look out on the lake).

Cozy Atmosphere, Great Service, But Food Could Improve…read more This small, charming spot has a lot of potential, but the experience was a bit mixed. The service is friendly, with two servers managing both the indoor and outdoor tables. They were attentive and quick to address any issues. When my husband's meal came out overcooked with burnt potatoes, they offered a replacement dish and even gave us complimentary beignets, which was a nice gesture. However, the food quality didn't quite match the price point. My chorizo omelet was flavorful but a bit overcooked, and while I appreciated the rosemary potatoes, the cheesy potatoes were just weird--definitely not what I expected. The coffee was a little weak for my taste but did have a pleasant flavor. As for the kids, this isn't the most family-friendly place. There's no dedicated kids menu, and while I loved the blue-beary pancakes, they didn't appeal to my little ones. We ended up ordering extra plain pancakes just to keep them happy. This spot is cute and could be a great brunch place to eat if you get the right dishes prepared correctly. I'd recommend it, but with some caution, especially if you're dining with kids or are particular about your food being cooked just right.

The pancake was delicious and, as it says, huge. Their prices are super fair and most have a small and large option. It definitely made for a perfect spot to go on Sunday morning. The store stuff next to the cafe is a bit overpriced but everything is organic and some locally farmed/bought so I don't mind buying a few things that are a bit more expensive if it helps out small businesses in the area.
