Everyone was so kind and polite. On top of that the food came out quick and so delicious.

I'm not sure I can give an objective review because I'm thrilled that a place like this exists in the first place. Physical spaces for the anime/Japanese culture fan community are sparse in the US, especially the Midwest, so I cherish every one we get. This is definitely the sort of place I could end up spending an unhealthy amount of time and money at if it were closer to me. I love the playful way they incorporate the theme in all of their food and drink names. Maybe it's corny, but I enjoy it. The mocktail I got was good. The Korean corndog was an interesting thing to try out. Only thing that surprised me is the paucity of Japanese food, especially classic Japanese bar food. Definitely room to improve there. Staff was friendly, no issues there.

The rice in it is hardly seasoned and just didnt taste "wow". Their yakisoba is a weird medley of rice noodles in some brown sauce they call yakisoba (like they didnt even use the actual noodles!) I got the katsu kimchi jiggae... they put a perfectly fried katsu INTO the bottom of the jjigae..... like it was wet and sad. And for some reason my son had a full bowl of rice and mine was only half full?? The kimchi flavor was off... almost tomatoey? Needless to say.. my husband barely ate his yakisoba. I took 95% of my stew home. To top it off as we were checking out, they came and said they were having some troubles with conmecting tp their card people... if we could ..pay with...cash? And i had to send my husband out to an atm... and then it came back online. In all this they couldnt even give a small discount for this situation. I am sad to say I am likely not to return... this round of ownership change has brought the place down.

We spent $230 (w/ tip) and it was worth every penny. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. We passed by this place multiple times on our way elsewhere. We're Mario fans, so the name Yoshi caught our eye, but the cramped strip mall exterior doesn't exactly scream culinary dream. We decided to take a chance, and let me just say--wow. It's an intimate space with just a few tables and an 8-10 seat sushi bar. We didn't have reservations (make one, they fill up fast) but managed to snag seats at the bar. The service immediately stood out. We had better attention here than at some upscale steakhouses--glasses never went empty, and their menu suggestions were spot on. One minor heads-up: at the sushi bar, staff sometimes walk behind you to talk to the chefs, which can be a bit distracting. For starters, we grabbed the gyoza and asked for a standout small plate. They pointed us to the beef tongue. It arrived hot with shredded onions and spicy mustard, delivering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy richness. The gyoza was equally flawless. Instead of the overly chewy or burnt wrappers you find at most spots, these had a delicate, golden-brown sear with an intensely savory, garlicky umami filling. We paired this with Sayuri sake, a creamy, unfiltered pour that perfectly balanced sweetness with a dry, clean finish. Since we love nigiri, we ordered a spread: tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, sweet shrimp, and Japanese scallop, plus a salmon/avocado roll. The cuts were impeccably sourced and practically dissolved on the tongue. You rarely find this level of consistency. Just a heads up--they prepare it the traditional way, meaning there is a dab of wasabi tucked directly under the fish. We also tried the Wagyu A-5 roll. It's about as "meat and potatoes" as a roll can get: steak, carrots, asparagus, and rice. The seared Wagyu fat melted instantly, creating a decadent, buttery glaze over the crisp vegetables. It's one of those rare foods that genuinely forces you to pause after each bite. At $40, it was 100% worth it. I can't say enough about this experience. Next time, we're leveling up to the fatty tuna and Wagyu experience on their special menu. That's the exact culinary peak we've been looking for, and incredibly, it's tucked inside a suburban strip mall. Absolutely brilliant.

It's a shame they're closing it, as the restaurant was super cute, with a custom mural & fun bar. Our server was wonderful- very knowledgeable & attentive. We ordered a wide variety of dishes. We started with the napa Caesar, which I really enjoyed, & the kaarage, which was good but not the best I've ever had. My family got the salmon skewer, the yakiimo (fried sweet potatoes), the kimchi ramen, & the special (which's name I can't remember). Everything I tasted was enjoyable, super flavorful & savory. The kimchi ramen was lukewarm, though. My shio was also really good, which delicious roasted pork & al dente noodles. Everything was good, except for the lukewarm ramen, & t's a good restaurant in its own right, but it's just impossible to beat Mochiko in my mind. That being said, I hope Kiki will open its doors somewhere else & I hope to try it again!

There was a bit of a snafu at the beginning, where the fire alarm was going off when we arrived. We had to go back down 8 flights of stairs and come back up for our reservation when we could come back in (which was as soon as we got to the bottom). It was fine for us, but I can see 8 flights being a challenge for a lot of people. Otherwise, the ambiance was lovely and the view was great. My only major gripe was the service. Our server didn't check on us very often, and we had to ask for the dessert menu when we heard last call was coming up. I'm chalking up the service mishap to an odd evening with the fire alarm. Definitely would love to come back and try it again!
