Truly wanted to like this place but after the service I received today. I am better off going to a fast food restaurant's. Our waitress asked us what we like to drink then mixed our drinks up. Regular Coke and then a Diet Coke. She admitted it and instead of getting us new drinks she had us taste them to figure out. We ordered our food but someone else brought the food to the table. No big deal maybe busy but saw her the whole time chatting with other servers. Never came back ... I look around and saying excuse me but no one paid any attention. Finally she came to our table 20 minutes later after we finished our meal. I flat out said didn't think you ever come back. She said she had to do "To Go Orders". I stopped and asked another employee if to go orders come before dine in customers and she said "no". The manager never came around or anything like the few that were dining in didn't matter. Really sad actually ... we were the only "brown" not working there but eating there. Felt like it was deliberately done. read more

Went there for dinner Saturday night with a buddy. had a filet mignon. ordered it medium. it came rare. it was the ruffest filet I ever had. I ate about a third of it and passed on the rest of it. Would of enjoyed a big Mac from McDonald's better than this 43.00 price of garbage. the clincher was my buddy's meal. ordered a prime rib rare. it came medium. they sent the manager. my buddy said his was supposed to be rare. after determining it was not rare he reordered it again and guess what it came the same way. Maybe steak is not what you order at Redlands. Total disappointment for the money. Honestly I feel like the only time I write a review is when you expect a great meal and you get below par food. Everything was good -- We took a group of 10 from work for lunch recently, and they handled it well -- our table was ready promptly, service was good, the variety of food available satisfied everyone, and they brought separate checks when we asked. Love love love the French Dip!!!! The fries with it are perfect! The salads are all spectacular and the very very very best deviled eggs!The desserts are all great!!!!! Good restaurant and nice ambiance. The burgers are a decent size and the salads are fresh. Really enjoyed their chicken pasta soup. It's creamy and pretty filling. The service is usually pretty good. Only downfall is the price of some items compared to the quality. read more

I don't know why it's taken me so long to get around to dining here. A great first visit. Very accommodating with my daughter in her wheelchair and great service As well. Had lunch here today with my mother. I had the Redlands Chicken Salad which was absolutely delish. It comes with rotisserie chicken, pecans, avocado, tomatoes & bacon. It's a creamy salad dressing but I will say it's very light. My mother had the Grilled Chicken Salad which was very good as well. Served with a light vinaigrette dressing, feta and olives. I would suggest making a reservation for lunch as it tends to get busy. Be sure to use RESY apps and you're good to go. Table tops are limited it's mostly booths. So handicapped accessible table is a necessity, be sure to mention it in your online reservation. I'll be sure to be back to check out dinner too! read more

We used to go to j Alexander's when I lived in Ohio and was dying to see if it was the same. We sat at the bar, which is giant, and had a couple drinks and apps. Had the calamari. It was awesome, though I'd recommend they come up with a cream sauce and not just a red sauce. All in all, I would recommend this happening spot. read more

About 90% of my orders at J. Alexander's have always been for the Thai Kai salad, but it can be hard to find restaurant locations in some areas of the country. While traveling in Madison, Alabama, recently, I was delighted to find what seemed to be a relatively new location, and so I couldn't wait to visit and order my favorite. But what has happened? The chicken was served in lumps (not thinly sliced) and I even found a bone in one piece! The peanuts were at the bottom of the bowl and only about a spoonful in quantity (they used to be sprinkled generously on top). There was no peanut sauce drizzled over the top and the vinigrette was quite sweet. One of the key vegetables was missing. As I look at photos online, I see the salad I once loved. There were 5 of us on a Wednesday evening at 5:30 without a reservation. The hostess was rude and told us she would seat us but we had to be out in an hour because a large group was coming in. There were plenty of empty tables and seemed to be an adequate amount of servers. We never saw the large group. Anyway, we all loved our food. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I've spent a significant amount of cash at this restaurant in the past when I worked across the street. The service was impeccable the food was great. This is the first time I've been back in quite a long time. The service was still good as were the mixed drinks. However, I ordered a ribeye steak and it was nothing like what I remembered. As always the service was top notch but my turkey burger was dry and seasoned just enough to obliterate the turkey taste. But...the carrot cake was absolutely marvelous. Decided to go there for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. Probably didn't have to make a reservation since the place wasn't packed at all. I agree with some of the yelpers mentioning how the waiters/waitresses aren't very attentive... It took forever for me to get my bill... We ordered the prime rib and loup de mer plus a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was great. It's a nice place to take your significant other to. Especially for a birthday. I joined a couple of work colleagues for drinks and dinner. I've been here before, and really wasn't looking forward to it. In the past, the quality wasn't impressive. Tonight turned out great, and I have to give them some real kudos. We started with some wine. They have a great wine list. We started with a Napa Silver Oak. It was awesome. We had the smoked salmon spread appetizer. Highly recommend it. Fresh with great flavor. Perfect for three or four to split before dinner. Overall, my dining experiences here have been decent based on the ambience of this restaurant. The food has never been bad but nothing has ever overwhelmed me here, except the carrot cake. The carrot cake is DELICIOUS!!! Ihave always enjoyed my selection of food, but never excited about the selections, except the carrot cake. Did I mention the carrot cake is DELICIOUS! Today, I chose the smoked salmon dip as an appetizer and it was AMAZING!!! My husband LOVES this place based on the ambience and the filet mignon, which has been consistently good. They have a great bernaisse. There is a romantic feel in the dining area that I do appreciate. Service here has always been top notch. 3 star rating not because of anything bad, but because nothing too exciting, except the carrot cake. It is DELICIOUS! J. Alexander's is a great spot to grab a nice dinner or lunch. The service is always friendly and the food comes out quickly. Their menu isn't huge but everything on it is delicious including apps, salads, burgers/sandwiches, and a couple fish and steak options. A couple of of my favorites are their flame grilled artichokes served with a garlic aioli dipping sauce, their crispy chicken tender plate, and the French dip sandwich made with prime rib (pictured below). I don't like to dine in chain restaurants when I'm traveling, especially when the restaurant has locations in Atlanta, my home town. That said, J. Alexander's is perfectly adequate for a business dinner with colleagues that have less than adventurous palates. It's Houston's with a different name. Service is efficient and friendly, if slightly awkward. Prices seem to be on the high side for the quality of the food. I'd like this place a whole lot more if they cut costs by 15%. The upside is the food. It's actually quite good. The spinach queso dip is on the mild side, but it's good cheesy deliciousness and a filling starter course. The redfish tacos are a welcome surprise, with fresh avocado and nicely spiced black beans on the side. Portions are huge, so ask to split entrees if your appetite is on the normal side. read more

In response to the call to support our local restaurants,we called in an order to pick up dinner tonight! Ribs w extra sauce ( but of course), their exceptional thin cut fries, and a side order of broccoli. Because we planned to " picnic" in the car, we asked that the ribs be cut apart, and the fries packaged separately to stay hot. They brought our order out to the car promptly, we parked in the parking lot, and ate our dinner hot! It was exceptional - the ribs cooked perfectly, fries crisp, and broccoli was great! Need to update their procedures. We have been dining here for 8 years. I know there is a "pandemic" going on. We had planned to dine here for a week or so. We called a few days ago and the person who answered the phone told us there would be no problem seating. Finally, tonight we called before we left home at 6pm and we were told it was first come first serve...which is idiotc, but she said there was one person ahead of us... We get there and tell her were in the parking lot. She says it will be 15 or 20 minutes. After sitting in our car like morons I decide to check on our progress, after putting us on hold for five minutes, she tells us it will be 20 more minutes. We leave. I don't care what the circumstances are, if you don't have your act together and thus alienate good consistent customers, then you do not deserve my repeat business. Let me start off by saying I frequent this restaurant often due to the proximity of where I live and the consistent good food and service. That said, this evening, I decided to order carry out and decided to ver off my routine of turkey burger and salad to a custom chicken kabob on a bed of rice. Upon bringing the food home, I was caught by surprise to find a prime rib instead of my specific order. Many people might have been happy with such a surprise and if I was feeling healthier, I might too. But due to being sick for the past 2.5 weeks and having GI distress, I wanted the chicken and rice. We went here last night for dinner and I really enjoyed the experience and food. The staff is all very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for a date night. They had their original menu plus "chefs specials" which included a featured drink. For appetizers they have deviled eggs. And you'd think, oh why get that at a restaurant?? Um, because they were amazing!! They have candied bacon on them which just elevates the dish. For meals they have a few sandwich options, steaks and fish. My fiancé got the filet mignon and he said it was cooked perfectly and he got the baked potato on the side. I opted for the ahi tuna steak... which was a good sized chunk of rare ahi tuna that was seared on the outside. It tastes amazing and the dipping sauce went well with it. It did seem slightly salty to me. I also added coleslaw as a side and that was so good. Could've had two servings!!! The dessert options was carrot cake or key lime pie... had to get the key lime. It was a generous slice so you can share and it was well prepared. It had a great crust to it and I just wish I wasn't so full from dinner that I could've eaten more! This used to be a reliable 'go to' restaurant for us. While I understand Covid has thrown a wrench into just about all restaurants' procedures, we are over a year into changes due to Covid. We have ordered take out from Redlands 3 times since summer 2020. Each time, something went wrong. Once, the side dishes ordered were not there. Another time, they gave us another person's meal. And, just tonight, my husband got home, unpacked the food and the restaurant had completely omitted my dinner and side dishes, though all were paid for. I went back to the restaurant to pick up my dinner, waited another 10 minutes for them to bring out the food. They gave me two desserts to make up for the mistake, but it really didn't help. By the time I got home, my dinner was cold (Chicken Milanese). I can't see going back. read more

This location is nowhere near as busy as the Oak Brook alternative, which works in your favor--you'll get a seat right away and won't have to wait forever like you would have to in Oak Brook. It's a perfect place for warm meal. The calamari, entrees, and chocolate cake are all fantastic. I will certainly be back again soon! read more
