Ok, so my crew, working on a 1940's home in Berkeley, with a particularly sensitive occupant, broke a window pane. I called a glass shop. Lady on the phone told me to text my info and she'd "try to have somebody get back to me"......nope. Called a second shop. That guy seemed really surprised that I needed it fixed same-day. Both his ad online, and his sign on his store, offered emergency repair. He said maybe Monday (it's Thursday) and said " hold for a second and I'll check with the owner. After 18 minutes on hold. I hung up......nope. Then I called the right people. Went like this. Hello? J and D glass & Sash, can I help you? (Cheerfully, nice lady.) Hi, I need a piece of glass cut. Ok, what size? I told her. Oh and I'll need some glazing putty. When do you need it? Right now. Ok, it'll be ready in 10 minutes. Just like that. It wasn't ready but I got there in less than 10. A young fellow cut, sanded and wrapped it to go, gave me a big bag of putty and some valuable tips. Total cost 10 bucks. Great folks, great service. I'll use no one else. read more

We initially ordered the wrong specs which didn't fit the table and because it was tempered glass, we couldn't get it adjusted. J & D replaced our vanity mirrors in each of our two bathrooms. They also installed twist locks in each of our two sliding glass doors. We had a very good experience with J & D Glass. Customer service was excellent. Barbara at the office was very responsive. We got a two hour window for an estimate. Matt came promptly within the time frame. We are what I would call high maintenance customers with lots of detailed questions on the type of mirrors to be installed. Matt answered our numerous email questions promptly with great details on product specifications, care and maintenance of the mirrors. Elai did the installations and Francisco assisted. They did an excellent job. Elai took great care to caulk the bottom of the J clip and around the bottom of the mirrors to protect from splashing water at the sink. I don't know if I spelled Elai's name correctly. I have heard of horror stories on reviews online of cheap thin mirrors from the Big Box stores with distorted images. Not the ones from J & D. If you have not found J & D Glass, consider them for your glass and windows needs. We highly recommend them. They are a local small business. We will hire them again when we need to replace our windows next. read more

The person I talked to on the phone was very nice and the new window is fine, but my overall experience was quite negative: They left glass all over my porch without saying anything. This is plainly dangerous. It took them only 30 minutes to replace my window but they have a 2 hour minimum so I was still billed $200 for labor. The workers were an hour late and the person at their office had no way of tracking them down, so an hour into waiting I had no idea whether to keep waiting or not. Wish I could say it was better! Excellent customer service! I called and gave my measurements and got an estimated quote for my bedroom window glass replacement. Steve came out the next day to measure the window/glass to make sure that I got the measurement correct. He was on time and courteous. Then the glass was ordered to size and type. A couple days later, the installer, Mark came and replaced the windows. Mark was also right on time. He is also courteous and easy to talk to. This is the kind of customer service that I expect! We had a handful of failed double pane windows, a broken sliding glass door and some missing screens. Home Depot wanted us to replace each window unit, but these guys were willing to replace just the glass. This is the first bad review I write. I tried to support local businesses but need to share my experience as they were not willing to listen. My request was simple. Someone to come out and get me a quote. The lady was quite rude and she said she was very busy. She hang up on me. Since I don't know about too many other window repair services, I gave it a second try. I called a few days later and the same result. My wife called. She was able to schedule someone to come. The day came and nobody showed up or call. I called asking for an ETA. The lady put me on hold and said that she was busy. She offered on day and time, very specific. I said, I'll take it. She said, ok and hang up. No address or contact info asked. I hope if you read this and work for J&D can straight this up. The lady who takes calls was very rude the 3-4 I spoke to her. She even said once to me, I'm busy so call me later once you have made up your time about time - that was when we were trying to schedule something and have only spent 2 minutes, 13 second on the phone. Best of luck. Probably, as you stated, you don't need more business. But if you want sustainability, something needs to change. UPDATE 9/28: to my surprise, 5 minutes after I wrote this review, J&D called me. She explained me their overwhelming workload and promise to deliver this time. 3 hours later a technician was at my house. He was knowledgeable and professional. Made good recommendations and told me the office will send me a quote with details. I will update this review once again I receive the quote (not to talk about pricing but to update on response time and follow up). So 1 star for the follow up call and 1 more for the prompt technician = 3 stars. Again, I will update later. read more

We chose J & D Glass due to the good reviews here. We made a 50% (considerable) deposit for some windows that would take 2-3 weeks to arrive. We waited four weeks, but heard nothing from them, so I called. Apparently they never placed the order after taking my deposit. Lea told me that she did not receive my order because somebody else took my deposit. WTH, is there no communication in their business? That is no excuse. She tells me, "But, you are lucky because the window company we would have ordered from went out of business, so those windows would not have arrived anyway, nor would they have had a warranty. So we can start the process over again with another window company, but you have to pay about $200 more and wait another 2-3 weeks for the windows to arrive." Yeah, thanks, I feel really "lucky". What a waste of a month waiting for these guys to get back to me. read more
