I had a timing chain done on a 2017 Honda CRV Touring ($2300 job). Talking to Andy he agreed about dealer shops being an over priced ripoff, so I did not expect to be ripped off for that. I was fine with the labor for the job, but the bill reflected ridiculously priced dealer parts prices such as $260 for a $58 timing chain and $15 a quart oil and a $25 oil filter. I could not get a return call from Andy to ask what was with the excessive parts prices. I was disappointed that I got treated this way, I thought I'd found a mechanic I can trust. They do fine with smog checks, but their integrity leaves something to be desired on bigger jobs. read more

I took my car for a new water pump which they said they do and can get me in an awake took me three times to take it back as you see my pictures the leak is unsustainable. I took it back the first time. The owner was OK but the second time he got snotty, like it's my fault because I keep bringing it back. I would never recommend this place as my car has not been the same since I picked it up it leaks like crazy. I don't know what it's gonna take. I'm gonna take it to another shop and see what they did wrong. read more

Made an appointment for emissions testing on my 2007 Charger Daytona and found a clean and tidy shop. I was in and out in under an hour, despite the tech discovering that I used heater hose instead of vacuum hose when I installed an oil catch-can in the PVC system a few months ago. The hose I used was getting soft and collapsing. They wouldn't sign off on passing the smog test unless the hose was replaced, and quoted me $30 for parts and labor to replace the hoses. Fair enough to me, so I authorized the repair to avoid a return trip.a During my visit I discussed the Chrysler car in the bay with its engine's top end removed with the shop owner. He explained the cam and lifter work being done. I steered the conversation to my 2007 Chevy with the 5.3l engine with the historically cylinder deactivation, and he knew about the problem and spoke of a 2012 Suburban that they had done, replacing the cam and lifters after a lifter failure. He knew about the engine mods that Chevy made between '07 and '10 to alleviate the DOD/AFM issues and I was impressed (having THOROUGHLY researched the subject a couple of years ago to diagnose a chronic cylinder#7 misfire). Bottom line is that these guys seem knowledgeable and fair to me. read more

I went here to get my 92 van re-smog checked after it failed at a different smog check station. All the staff here are very nice and knowledgeable. Their waiting room is very clean, which is rare for auto shops and something I appreciate. They charged $20 less for the smog check than the other place. Unfortunately, my van failed again. The technician said they could do a diagnosis for $120, which I agreed to. During the diagnosis, the found clogged tube, which was causing the failure, and unclogged it. I was charged no additional fees for this. They also didn't charge me for the recheck, which got sent to the DMV. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and professionalism of this shop; but more importantly, I was very pleased that they didn't try and rip me off like so many other auto shops do. In fact, I feel like they really gave me a great deal by not charging for unclogging the tube or for the retest. Would definitely recommend Autotech to others and will be using this business of vehicle repairs in the future. Thanks! read more

After being turned away at Thompson Toyota in Placerville because our truck was too old( this is after making an appt n being there on time) over an hr later they call n tell me to oick up our truck. We had no idea where to go but when I put in smog locations Autotech came up I made an appt took tge truck there n they had it done within less then a hr-no complications. Been going to these guys for the past 4 years for smog and they repaired my brake system on an older truck. On the test drive the brakes weren't working to the owners satisfaction and he called to keep it another day to resolve. He wanted me to go on a test drive to experience the problem myself. The new master cylinder was bad from the manufacturer. Replaced and took me for another test drive, everything resolved! I went to automotive excellence for a smog and they were dishonest and overcharged me and my car failed smog. I immediately called autotech for a second opinion and spoke with Chris on the phone. He was very accommodating and had me come straight over and he ran test to check for an error. When no error was found he immediately took my van in for smog and gave me a generous discount and apologized for the other companies dishonesty. I highly recommend this shop! My daughter's car would not turn over. Took it here as I have relied on them for years. They told me the engine was frozen. $3000 to repair. bought a new motor and going through the time and expense. turns out, it was the AC compressor that was frozen. Took my car to them. Ran smog pretest it failed. Did diagnostic said it had tight valves and nothing about idle. Took it to their recommendation to machine shop valves are in specs all of them. Saying now I may have burnt valve and bouncing idle. Car runs smooth with plenty of energy. Starts good and stays running. Catalytic converter has been on it 20 years and never even thinking that could be cause. Refuses to change it. We have done all ignition on it. This is doing nothing but costing us money and time. These guys are really good and they are cooperative. If you are having problems smogging your car, they will work with you to solve the problem. They're not like a lot of smog shops, who refuse to help you if your car fails the test. They are also good at other mechanical repairs. I would say their prices are about average. read more

Stay away !!!!! They have poor at best diagnostic skills. I called first and they promised a diagnosis for $95 I drove my vehicle to their shop running poorly. They called me w/ a diagnosis and price to repair when I called them back hours later they concluded that they were wrong. I visited the shop at the end of the day and realized that they had no clue and I wanted my truck put back together so that I could take it. The owner insisted that I pay $50 for his time. I paid him just to get my truck and tools back. When I tried to drive away the truck didn't run good enough to drive on the road. They had left a sensor unplugged a nut was missing that holds the throttle linkage on and the spark plug wire looms were laying loose under the hood. I decided to make time and diagnose it myself. I did a complete compression check (a valuable and basic diagnostic test that took me 20 min) and found one cylinder with 0 compression. Then I did a leak down test on that cylinder (about 5 min) I found the exhaust valve not seating. Removed the head and found a bent valve. When I took the parts to show them and ask for my $50 back they said that they would not refund it because I stopped them mid diagnosis, Yet the never performed one of the first tests that they should have. (MAYBE THAT'S A GOOD THING THEY MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN TO REINSTALL THE SPARK PLUGS) Save your self the headache and AVOID this place LIKE THE PLAGUE. read more
