I recently took my Bronco to this automotive shop to have the steering inspected and to evaluate why it was slow to get up to speed. When I dropped the vehicle off, everything was in normal condition, including all the windows being fully closed. However, when I returned to pick it up, I found the passenger-side window covered with plastic and paper. This was surprising, as it was not in that condition when I left it. When I asked about it, I was told that the car had been dropped off that way, which was simply not true. They also mentioned there had been a wasp nest but claimed they had taken care of it. What was most frustrating was the lack of accountability and customer service. The staff member I spoke with, Dane who was not accommodating or helpful in resolving the issue. I ended up having to fix and close the window myself before leaving. Based on this experience, I would reconsider recommending this shop, as the customer service and communication were disappointing. read more

My mom dropped her car off here to have the horn fixed and the electric locks fixed and one other thing fixed and told them that those things were all broken and she needed them fixed. They charged her for diagnostics to tell her that these things were broken $87 apiece. The bill was $362 for an oil change. All they did was change the oil. Furthermore, the problem was the vehicle was towed in because the ignition was trapping the key intermittently, so my mom is gonna end up stranded with the intermittent problem which they wouldn't fix and the quotes to have everything else fixed were too high so for $362 my mom got an oil change. They should've never charge her for diagnostic work on things that she said these are broken. I am appalled at the service that she received from Jim's automotive. I just had the best experience at Jim's automotive in Placerville. Amazingly honest! I told them I needed front brakes, they called and said my brakes still had 70% that I only needed my rotors machined. I never would have known if they said I needed brakes too. My husband said I needed shocks that mine were so bad. He gave me a written estimate of $1300 to come back if I wanted but told me honestly mine were not bad and that I might be disappointed if I did replace them because I probably wouldn't even notice any difference! I am sooo irritated with this place. They have ripped my daughter off TWICE. First one was an oil change...yah a frikkin simple oil change. They "forgot" to put in new oil!! She discovered the problem on the way home from Jim's... She also got new brakes for 1k. "Guaranteed" yah...in less than 3 months the brakes are metal to metal so she went back to use her "GUARANTEE" but has been told the guarantee is void because the master cylinder was bad...but it wasn't bad when they charged 1k for the frikkin brakes. Too bad so sad...now pay us more money. Hoping my calls to "Call Curtis" and the various licensing authorities can help, or maybe "Jim's Automotive" could just do the right thing!!!!! read more

I was driving to South Lake Tahoe late on Thursday 1/19 when after the chain control on hwy 50 My 4x4 wouldn't engage. I returned to Placerville to stay he night. At 7:00 am I approached Jim's Automotive and even though they open at 8:00 am Jim's son helped me immediately and recommended the mechanic to do it ASAP after I mentioned I needed to be at Lake Tahoe by noon. Brought my car here for the first time after I hit a coyote and my car ran hot. They did a block test that couldn't be completed because the radiator needed to be fixed by a body shop. Paid them only $72 for the assessment work that they did. After the car was fixed by the auto body shop I brought it back in so the block test could be completed to make sure there wasn't any other damage and they didn't charge me since they were unable to complete test before. I work near Jim's and so I drop off our cars there several times a year. Always get good service, fair prices, etc. I had a nasty brake sound last year ... took it in and they said they took the wheel off and could find nothing wrong... must have been a pebble that fell out when wheel came off. They wouldn't take any money... none. That sold me. It would have been a perfect time to foist some brake work off on me and I would never have known it wasn't needed. I also had a much loved but hopelessly unsmoggable Taurus that Jim advised me to sell to the state rather than opening my wallet with him to start trying stuff to get it to pass smog.... he could have taken a lot of money from me on that one, becuase I loved that old boat, but in hindsight it was the right call. read more

My 93 year old Mother In Law took her truck in to be fixed. $700.00 later, and after ordering a replacement plug he told her couldn't fix it. She lives on a fixed income and had to have it towed there. It sure seems like he could have assessed it and been able to determine that for a lot less! She towed it to another Transmission shop and the mechanic said it looked like nothing had been done. He told her that it would be costly and that the repair may be more costly than the worth of the truck, but he felt so bad for being taken advantage of that he didn't charge her a dime. Our family visited the Tahoe area and we were heading back toward Sacramento in our rental. We had had an issue (a.k.a. a piece of plastic that had been dislodged from somewhere beneath the car's rear fender due to an unfortunate incident with a tree stump a few days earlier, but that's another story.) Apparently in spite of our best improvised (ok, desperate) efforts, which involved coated plastic wire from my cousin's toolbox as well as a wire tie used for broccoli rabe from the produce section, and a growing fear/anxiety/panic about what we'd be charged by the rental company for this, as well as the fact that the thing was now dragging on the ground, we pulled off the highway and stumbled upon Jim's Automotive. All I can say is wow. Though he was really busy that day, being someone who cannot resist a challenge, and really seems to enjoy helping people avoid paying tons of money to the already crazy expensive car rental companies, Travis completely saved us! Total Pro's! After the Timing Belt Broke on my 2005 Jeep Liberty, I called a good friend who recommended Jim's. Had the Jeep toed there, now it's running like a champ in 3 days! Not only were they efficient and fast on the original work order, but they took care of other needed issues, water pump, and the worn cracked serpentine at the same time. They stuck to the original est. even though there were more complications to the repairs. They included the entire "Timing Belt Full Kit", the roller guides, tensioner assembly hardware, gaskets, and importantly the new water pump and fresh coolant. Seemed nice but shoddy work and lies. Came in for a transmission cooler leak. They didn't fix it (was leaking again soon) and broke my radiator trying to reach for a quick-and-dirty fix. Cost me $400+ then a new radiatior and new transmission cooler too. Worst of it was, they knew they broke a part off the radiator, fixed it with goop and then tried to tell me it was not them. I had looked carefully at the radiatior a few hours before so I know they were lying. DO NOT trust them with your vehicle. read more

LOVE THIS SHOP!! Many who have broken down on the way to the Mountains with no idea where to go. These guys were amazing. Lucky to see them off the road. I was greeted by Travis and he immediately called another shop to see what was wrong. Hooked up a diagnostic and began to trouble shoot the problem. Because I have a foreign car he told me the problem and referred me to another shop down the road. They watched my dog while waiting for a tow and spent an hour helping me..when I asked to pay he said no charge.
