I thought this place was pretty good. The service was prompt and the waitress was nice. I ordered the turkey croissant sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was pretty good, I did get a side of mayo because it was too dry without it. My girlfriend got the chicken fried steak dinner and she said it was awesome, pointing out that it was still had a crispy crust. Our bill was 25.00 for the two meals and 2 soft drinks. I'm only giving this place four stars because I sat in the drive thru for over ten minutes trying to order (they have a crappy intercom system) and waiting for my order! I love this diner. I had wanted to check it out for years and finally did. Excellent prices and very relaxed atmosphere. The waiters work their butts off giving a really wonderful customer experience. We had some drinks at the bar before we ate. This place has pretty good food for very good prices. Just be prepared to wait. I have sat in the drive through several times for over 20 minutes. Which isn't too long for a sit down place but come on a drive through should be quicker than that. This place is really a hit and miss. First visit was amazing. I couldn't stop bragging about how great the food was and service. Second visit, completely different story. Service was so slow. Had other tables orders taken before ours when clearly we were there before they were. Took forever to get our food and the food wasn't as great as my visit. I was willing to let it go because restaurants always have their good and bad days but what happened next was completely mind blowing. Days after my visit, I check my bank account only to notice that my total was completely different from what I signed for at the restaurant. The server who cashed me out had the nerve to write herself a $10 tip on my ticket. Because of that, I will never go back. Me and my family are new to San Jacinto and we decided to try a new diner out here. This place has quickly become "our spot". The food was great, especially for the price. The service was incredible. Use to frequent this establishment with friends a few years ago on a regular basis and always had great food. After tonight, will never return. "Blah" is the best description of our food. I ordered a patty melt and asked if I could substitute Mac-n-cheese for fries, he ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and fried zucchini. The cheesesteak sandwich had juicy, tender meat and he really enjoyed it. The zucchini was not overly breaded and fried to perfection. However, the patty melt was an epic disappointment. The onions tasted like they'd been cooked too quickly with burned edges and a had foul after taste. The bread didn't seem fresh and wasn't crispy; the bottom piece was completely saturated from cooking and fell apart within the first three bites. Now the mac........if I had wanted bland, utterly flavorless cheap out of a box (not even kraft) mac-n-cheese I would have gone to a store and purchased it for $1 to make myself. There was an additional $2 charge for tasteless (cheesyless) noodles that had some butter melted on them. On top of this our sodas were watered down, we couldn't even tell which one was Dr. Pepper and which one was root beer at first. Not worth the money and most definitely will not be eating here again. Sad to say since they own several joints in town and we love to support local businesses. read more

My Girlfriend and I were in lastnight for dinner. JJ's is very nice inside, after looking around and being seated you can easly think wow we finnaly got a good place to have a steak and fish. My girlfriend ordered the Ribeye and I ordered the MahiMahi. The ribeye was ordered rare and still was the worst, tuff, chewy Ribeye Iv'e ever seen hardly any meat because of all the fat, second the Mahi Mahi - the cook at 730pm on sunday 7/01/12 ruined the fish by panfrying it till it was black. BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES! This is a long one, but worth the read, in my opinion. Visited J&J's this evening, as we (4 of us) were craving their great Meatloaf & Country Fried Steak (one of my favs!) dinners. Here be the issue: when ordering the "Grilled Cod Filet," the server was asked what seasoning was used on the fish. His answer was, in short, "I'm not sure, let me go ask." He returned & told us that they used flour & a seasoning blend consisting of pepper & paprika. 1st off, why is flour used for a "grilled" item? "To keep the fish from sticking to the grill." Said the server. HUH?!! Okay, whatever, the server was asked to "keep the paprika OFF the fish, please." Then our Sister-in-Law ordered the Grilled Salmon, which the menu stated was prepared w/Lemon Butter, my Wife decided & clearly told the server that she wanted that Lemon Butter used on her Cod, and reiterated that she wanted no paprika, as she cannot have anything spicy at all. At this point I was a bit concerned as my Wife & I have a great deal of restaurant experience, including many years as managers & we would've used this scenario (& I'm not finished yet) as a coaching opportunity for that server. Here's the big part...when the food came, it was totally obvious that the Cod had flour on it & a red colored coating of sorts. I saw this immediately & asked the server "why does it look like there were those ingredients were on the fish & not just Lemon Butter?" My Wife tried a very small bite & confirmed what I feared...paprika WAS INDEED on the fish! Seriously?! The Server then told us (believe it or not) that "the seasonings are pre-mixed and the paprika could not be removed, sorry. Will it be okay?" OH MY GOODNESS!! You have got to be kidding me!! "Will that be okay?!" Um, let me think, NOOOOO!! Hence the statement "keep paprika off the fish, please." Did we seriously NEED to explain WHY she did not want paprika on the fish, especially given that she did ask for her fish to be cooked w/only the Lemon Butter, rather than the "usual" way they prepare the Grilled Cod. The server was nice, however, extremely clueless. I began to "explain the error" but the wife asked me to just leave it alone. Instead, I just "told" her what was done wrong, while the server stood next to me listening. My Brother-in-Law chimed in by informing the server that "if that had been served to my daughter, she'd go into anaphylactic shock & could die, w/o even taking a bite!" The server just kept apologizing, but also kept saying that "it's a pre-mixed seasoning." I told him to just stop apologizing & asked him what he was going to do about the discrepancy. It was then that he asked if she wanted a different item, to which I answered "look, can your cook simply grill a piece of Cod, w/ONLY butter?" "Yes, they can." He replied. "Good, then please, do that. Thank you." Yes, I toned it down, because the last thing you want to do is complain too much, BEFORE ALL of the food for the table has been placed on the table. Trust me, you probably don't want to know why. He brought back a great looking piece of Cod, complete w/o ANY seasoning, w/in a few minutes. Why that wasn't done in the 1st place? I was not allowed to ask the server. I did tell her that, when he was told of the "pre-mixed seasoning" and that paprika couldn't be "kept off," the server should have come back to us & told us, giving her the option. Not to mention, THAT shouldn't have even been needed, as she clearly requested that the fish simply be prepared in the Lemon Butter & again no other seasoning. I felt like a muzzled dog, I really wanted to (after we all got our food of course) have a serious conversation w/the server, the MOD & the cook! Instead, I get to take more precious time from my life, that I cannot ever recover, to leave this review. The remainder of our dinning experience was much better, which is why I did give them 2 stars. Again, J&J's Diner is usually a great place to go, an occasional bad day is had by all, so, 2 stars it is. By the way, the Salmon filet, also had that "seasoning blend" as well, w/lemon wedges on the side of both fish plates. Come on Man! read more

I like this diner. I think they offer a great breakfast and also have a great deal everyday of the week. The meal deal is two eat for $20.00. They offer a rib dinner with a salad or soup, about 1/3 ribs, baked potato with veggies with a roll and you get dessert , they have spamoni ice cream YUM! Went there with some friends for dinner tonight. I ordered a Trout dinner that came with a salad. The waitress brings salad for everyone else but me and says they are out of salads and the chef was making some more. So I waited and waited while watching everyone else eat their salad. Everyone finished still no salad for me. I ask waitress instead of bringing me a late salad if I can have a discount on the meal. She says she can't do that. Soon she brings dinner out for everyone, then FINALLY I get my salad. For pete's sake can't they make a salad faster than that???? I only give 2 star rating for the food, which was decent. They were also playing a very violent movie on their TV's. Service was lousy, and my friend asks the waitress to take our picture. My husband wasn't smiling(I told the waitress he never smiles for pictures)so she says something like "Imagine me without my clothes on" to get my husband to smile(which he didn't). DINER BEWARE!!! They have specials plastered all over the outside of their building -- cobb salad for $7.00. I was a little hesitant to try somewhere new, but if you never try anything new you could be missing out on something wonderful. I should have trusted my first instincts. I walked in to get two salads to go. I am handed the receipt... I pay with a $20 and get a few coins back. I explain to the person who took my money that the advertisement on the front window shows a lower price. She seemed oblivious to the advertised specials. She asks someone from behind the wall and suddenly a new person emerges. She explains to me that the $7 price is for the drive thru. Hmmmm... but she politely says she will refund the $4. I ask if there is any difference between the drive thru salad and the dine in salad. She explains the drive thru salad is smaller. Well, I am hungry, so I tell her I'll take the larger salad at the higher price. She tells me she will let the kitchen know, but literally within 5-7 seconds she emerges with my salads all wrapped up and ready to go. So, I paid $20 (less some coins) for two crappy salads. I have to wonder if there truly is a size difference, how small is the drive thru salad? I feel I have been scammed and I will never eat here again! I'm sure they will disappear soon like the other five or six restaurants have before them. read more

I ordered a tuna salad and a cup of meatball soup. The cup of soup was rather generous. When I got my salad the size left me in awe. I was talking to friends while eating, but still, ate at a steady pace, while my plate was still full. I packed the left overs. At home, the next day, I had three servings of salad. And do not think it was just lettuce. It had cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, onions, hard boiled eggs, carrots, avocado and tuna. So if you're the kind that suspects that portions are shrinking, and even the size of cups seems to be shrinking, this is the place for you. My friends and the kids were also shocked by the serving size. Lots of fries, nice big hot chocolate cups with whipped cream for the children. No stinginess in that place. Sounds too good to be true? There's more, kids ate free! The place is not fancy, but it is clean and cozy and it is nicely located at the heart of old San Jacinto. read more

I ate here when it was a Mexican fast food restaurant. Let's just say I only ate there once. The food was not that good. Very bland! I live right around the area so I was excited to see there were new owners and they were changing the place! Unfortunately I suspect the cooks stayed the same. :( I have tried a few different things and nothing is that good. The salsa was bland, breakfast burritos, combo plates...everything. My son got a cheeseburger last time we were there. I asked him how it was and he said it wasn't that good. How is a cheeseburger not good to a 12 yr old? I think that says it all. What the other reviewers said about not letting the outside fool you-is very true. The inside looks wonderful! If the food was better I would definitely want to eat there. I hope the owners try to make the food taste better because with all the aesthetically pleasing changes they made coupled with great food they would have booming business! read more
