THE BEST ! I've been to many restaurants mostly upscale fine dining but this small , hole in the wall hidden gem of a restaurant blows them all out the water . The food is just beyond amazing and delicious. My favorite dish was the Jordanian lamb Mansaf which was a unique burst of flavor iv'e never experienced before and a must try. My first time ever trying knafeh and it's by far my favorite dessert I've had anywhere and my new go to . The service was very good and it feels like you're having dinner at home . The roasted chicken with rice was very well seasoned with good flavor. The lentil soup as well as the baba ganoush were very delicious and the mint hot tea went perfectly with the meal . This really hit the spot. We were driving from Omaha and needed something tasty and filling but not too heavy. Love love love the mint limeade. I got a Middle Eastern salad and my husband got a grilled shrimp meal which we were kind of sharing. The food was delicious and I think we ended up being hungrier than expected, so I will order my own darn meal next time! That's absolutely no fault of the restaurant though as the portions were large, and I really appreciate the hummus and pita that came as a side. There is a lot of variety on the menu including vegetarian and vegan options. Service was attentive and helpful. The interior decorations are colorful and unique. Also, there is a huge display of baklava and other desserts that looked absolutely amazing! I definitely will be stopping back in if we pass this way again. I love this place. It's located in a weird area of the Northland but worth visiting. There's also a middle eastern grocery store next door. I've ordered here (to-go) several times and everything taste great. Prices are reasonable and they have a pretty large assortment of dishes. I'd love to try some others when I come to dine in. The space is quite small and adorned with unique paintings that make you feel like you're back in the homeland. Food was prompt and it didn't take too long. Wonderful variety of delicious entrees. We love Mediterranean food and were happy to find this location not too awfully far from the Kansas City airport. They also have an excellent selection of desserts, which we enjoyed. My wife ordered the chicken. Shawarma and I got the beef Shawarma. I was so forntunate to have a great Mediterranean restaurant so close to where I live. My boyfriend and I decide to go in there for lunch one day and have been hooked ever since. I tried the Beef Shawarma plate and my boyfriend got the single Mashawi Mix plate, both came with hummus and side salads. The Mashawi plate had grilled lamb, beef kabobs, and grilled chicken. I like both plates but favored the Mashawi plate because everything was delicious and tender. We like it so much that the next time we got the huge Mashawi combo and ate that for the next couple of days. I was very impressed with the quality of it even togo. There was so much for $29.99. I would love to bring that to a potluck. While we were dining in there the first time, I saw a gentleman order the Lamb Shank with rice and quickly devour it. I had to give it a try. This is some of the best Mediterranean food I've eaten in Kansas City. Ive repeatedly been satisfied at the flavorful and ample portions. Today i just stopped by for some of their baklava, which is so flaky, rich, and sweet. On previous trips, the beef schawarma plate, and the gyro and fries was excellent also. The service is prompt and accurate, but they might work on being a little friendlier and flashing a smile. I think developing a friendlier environment would make this very good restaurant truly "excellent." I don't usually write reviews, but in order to help others stay healthy, I felt I had to share my experience. I wish I could give this place a zero; it was one of the worst places I've ever been. We went there with family and ordered kebabs and lamb shank with rice. The plates were dirty and unwashed, the rice was cold and tasted like it had been made several days ago, and they reheated the lamb. The salad tasted horrible. Big Mashawi family style plate was well worth the money and absolutely delicious. A hidden gem in northern Kansas City! I dined here with a friend and we split the dish -- it was large enough for at least 3-4 people to share. Came with complementary pita and hummus, too. The meat was tender, well-seasoned, and generous in portion. We were too full to try the desserts, but they looked delectable as well. What a disappointment! Based on the reviews, I was really excited to try this place. In fairness, I ordered through Doordash, so that may have something to do with a few of my issues, but not all. First off, the food was delivered 25 minutes late and everything was cold. Again, this may not have been the restaurant's fault. However, the hummus had zero seasoning or flavor and tasted like nothing; the tzatziki sauce was really strange and tasted like it was a cheap Sysco brand; the salad also had no flavor and seemed like the dressing wasn't stirred as I it was very oily; and the pita bread was like a soft piece of cardboard. The weirdest thing about my lunch was the pita and baklava (which was also not great) were wrapped in parchment paper with 'Grandy's' branding on it. I've not seen a Grandy's for at least 25 years, so I had to Google it and the closest one is 5 hours away...so bizzarre! Anyhow, this was my first try, I might try again because the reviews are so good, but I will pick it up myself and not bother adding the tzatziki sauce to my order. read more

Love the interior! All the pictures and art make for a very cool setting. The food was alright- got the appetizer combo and a side of lamb shawarma (which... may have been beef. Didn't taste like lamb). The service was really inexperienced or distracted. I kept having to go to the counter to ask for things (a menu, my order, some water, paying the bill). Oh how I've been IG stalking this place for months. Their photos have been making my mouth water! It's a small place. At first, I drove right by it, but it's quite convenient, just off N. Oak Trafficway once you get used to where it is. There weren't very many people dining in when we were there on a weekend just after lunch hour. They did stay busy with a stream of take out / delivery driver orders while we were there. We had comfortable seating. They've arranged several tables in their small dining area, so I could imagine it could be a little tight on a busy day. I wanted to try a variety of items, so chose to order the Mashawi Mix Plate for one person (they have one that is a shared "family" meal too). This comes with lamb cubes, chicken shawarma, Kafta, rice, salad and hummus with naan. It was a great portion, very generous but still manageable for one person. It was all delicious. I would say the lamb was my favorite, but I certainly didn't have complaints about any of it. The Kafta was very good. The spices were perfect for my taste. Mom had Chicken Shawarma with fries. It was also a generous portion. The fries were very yummy and she really liked the Shawarma. They are very friendly, without being smothering. I'm way overdue for an update. My last update was after visit #2 and I now have 38 check-ins. I have been averaging about 2 visit per month for the past year and a half. I have been hoping that Yelp would figure out a way to reward more than 5 stars, because my friends at Queen Sweets deserve at least 7 or 8. I have sampled 90% of the menu but still can't stop ordering the Beef Shawarma with Hummus. The best flavor combinations on any menu in town. Although the roasted chicken is right up there also. With the reasonable prices and awesome food we have had them cater 2 work meals and all 20+ staff have echoed my opinion that the food is wonderful. Queen Sweets has not only become my favorite restaurant over the past 18 months, it has become my comfort zone. I can step inside, have a great meal and some Turkish coffee, be treated like family from the owners, with good conversation and watch some Jordanian culture on the TV screens in an intimate dining area covered in art and artifacts from the owners trips back to Jordan and leave feeling like a better person than I did when I walked in. I hope everyone can find such a place that makes them feel delighted and satisfied. read more

Queen Sweets and Bakery is a hidden gem of the Northland. A small independent restaurant in an unassuming strip, it serves some of the best Mediterranean food I've had. The lamb shank especially is delicious, and don't forget to end with a flourless chocolate cake! I'd also highly recommend the Big Mashawi Mix as takeout for a party or family dinner (or if you're me, eat for days). Found this place by accident while looking for somewhere else, but so glad we did. Very friendly little Jordanian hole in the wall that serves up delicious authentic middle eastern fare. The chicken shawarma was fantastic with just the right amount of curry and the lamb shawarma was even better! You get a lot of food for fast food prices, so much so that we didn't have any room left for dessert which looked incredible. Might just be my new lunchtime guilty pleasure. Tonight I feasted on lamb and saffron rice! I made a little trip over to Queen Sweets & Bakery and gorged myself with a dish known as The Lamb Biryani Plate. Consisting of biryani and a lamb shank roasted slowly with Mediterranean spices. The first side was a salad along with hummus and pita bread. The second side was a wonderful plate full of saffron rice. With this rice they serve sautéed onions, tomatoes, green peas, and some crunchy nuts. First out was the salad and the hummus. The salad consisted of greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, dressed with olive oil and a sprinkling of spices. Everything was fresh and tasty. The hummus was smooth and creamy and drizzled with a little bit of olive oil and spices. The pita bread was nice and warm, I tore a piece off and filled it with a hummus and dug in. Everything was delicious. When they brought out the lamb and the saffron rice, I was glad I was sitting down. The aroma coming off of the rice was intoxicating! The rice was nutty and flavorful with just a hint of what I think is cinnamon flavor. The nuttiness of the rice, the crunchiness of the nuts, and the taste of the fresh tomatoes, the peas, and the sautéed onions brought a unique flavor and texture to the palate. The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender, cutting it up off the bone, I mix it in with the rice and I feasted like a king. Well Done Queen Sweets & Bakery! Well Done indeed! read more

For main course we got 'Chicken Shawarma Plate' which came with salad, hummus, saffron rice, pita bread and shawarma chicken ; where the chicken was really succulent and flavorful, rice being just perfect & the pita bread being soft and fluffy, the salad had so much vinaigrette dressing that the veggies and greens got soaked and got to the hummus too where that part of the plate was a mini disaster. Small spot in a back little sub strip mall, can be easily missed, so keep a sharp eye. They have some parking in front. Walking in, the people are nice and greeted me each time. We've tried a variety of the menu. First the Kafta Kabob, Plate Single. It's four skewers of grilled Kafta Kebob. It's very generous serving for one or plenty for two. The meat is in the meatloaf style and a mix of lamb and beef, but to me the beef won out and I couldn't really place the lamb in the mix. Similarly on the flavor front, I got a lot of 'char broil' taste from the grease flames that heavily licked the meat and less of the seasoning I expected cardamom, nutmeg and allspice. It had some grilled veg on top and pita. I was not asked about which side I wanted and was served fries, not the saffron rice and hummus as described on the menu. Also, tried the gyro which is the chunks of meat style. If you like this style, you will like this version of the classic; however, I don't believe the chunky meat style lend itself to the heavy seasoning you might normally expect to find in the layered and shaved or loaf style gyro meat. In fact the lamb I had as the gyro plate and the second time I was here as part of the Mashawi Mix was not particularly flavorful beyond its' "lambness" and contained noticeable amounts of fat or connective tissue. The sandwich, on pita bread, is accompanied by lettuce, tomatoes, onions. The Tzatziki sauce is good and strongly flavored with generous olive oil and lemon. Falafels are excellent. Highly recommended. You can taste the chickpea, garlic and the onion. These are greenish from the parsley, with a nice nutty flavor. Perfectly fried and served with a side tahini. Finally, as mentioned earlier, we had the Mashawi Mix Plate Single. This includes grilled lamb cubes, white meat chicken and Kafta kebob along with a generous portion of saffron rice, a Middle Eastern salad, hummus, grilled veggies and pita. Okay, I already told you about my experience with both the lamb and Kafta, so the chicken was the new player. It was well seasoned with pepper, maybe sesame, garlic and perhaps sumac. The texture was thick and juicy. The salad was small and, to me, pointless; perhaps with a vinegar dressing that nicely cut the other flavors. The saffron rice is flavorful and could be delicious with the rich saffron flavor, but had so many full cloves that it was distracting and caused me have to remove them from my mouth or avoid them on the plate - no one wants to bite down on a whole clove. Finally, the hummus - excellent, top notch. They have no drink program - really, it's bottled and a couple bucks for bottled water is ridiculous. It's environmentally irresponsible, overpriced and unnecessary as, clearly they have a tap somewhere. So, we carried out once, and I was given fries as a side only to find the next time I went that I could have had something else - I hate that type of assumption. Which also brings me to the dining area - this place is small, with just a few tables and it's busy, so it's cramped and there are people coming and going. The tables are literally inches from one another, so be prepared to either participate in your neighbor table conversation or they in yours. The time we ate in the restaurant, we were subject to some dudes political views for the first thirty minutes cause he didn't care or have enough sense to realize the rest of the dining room DGAF what he thinks. Once again, I'm stuck with the full star rating system and while this place has some major flaws, it's not a three, it's a three and a half. I would recommend to anyone they should absolutely try it, especially if you are up north. For my sensibilities, I believe there are better gyros close by and as for the other items, I'll keep looking for my ideal. read more

Heard of this middle eastern restaurant through social media and I immediately was eager to visit. We planned a weekend trip and this didn't disappoint. Located along North Oak Trafficway (south of the I-29 junction), this business is tucked into a petite strip mall angled off the Trafficway. This is a unique and interesting place. A private lot out front is small, but ideal during evenings. A long bench seat extends on each side to allow easy seating options at the tables which line the walls. The space is modest, probably taking 20-30 people at max. The staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is straightforward and they offer a rotation of images of the dishes on the main television. Lots of people stopped in to order and walk with take out food. Even saw a Grubhub delivery driver during this visit. Customers range in all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Middle eastern cuisine is delicious! We ordered Mashawi mix plate single and the falafel platter with hummus and salad. The food was fresh and full of flavor! The bread was hot and amazing! The rice, veggies and hummus were each fantastic! Please be aware they do not offer beverages in cups. No ice. They do offer chilled sodas and water.
